In anticipation of a new school year we decided to look for non-standard options sports activities for children, and at the same time to find out whether it is fair to consider dancing a sport. Our today's expert is Yulia ONOFRYUK, coach of the Novosibirsk fitness club Panatta Sport and founder of the R-Style dance club, who was at the origins of the development of acrobatic rock and roll in Novosibirsk.

Dancing is also a sport!

Among the stereotypes associated with sports, there is this one: dancing, in fact, is not a sport, and if you want your child’s physical fitness to be at a high level, dancing is not the best the best option. Today we will talk about one of the most striking sports (yes, yes, sports) - acrobatic rock and roll. Its history began more than half a century ago, when the rhythms for the first time sounded to everyone famous song"Rock around the clock". How independent view The sport of rock and roll took shape only in the early 1970s, around the same time the World Rock and Roll Confederation was formed, which currently includes more than 30 countries, including Russia.

Acrobatic rock and roll is performed in pairs (partner and partner) or in groups consisting of women or couples. The average duration of the performance is one and a half minutes, and all acrobatic elements are strictly regulated in accordance with the level of complexity of the program and the class of the performance. This dance came to Novosibirsk in the 1990s, the first section opened in 1996, and since then rock and roll has begun to actively gain momentum. In our city, the Novosibirsk Federation of Acrobatic Rock and Roll was registered, which gave the right to those who joined it dance clubs hold official competitions and assign categories to pupils. Now there are several sections of this direction in the city.

At what age can you start acrobatic rock and roll

Perhaps one of the main questions in determining the sports future of a child is what age a child should be given to sports. Julia Onofryuk notes that you can come to acrobatic rock and roll at any age and with absolutely any level of training. If we are talking about children, then we can name two figures:

  • With 5 years you can start preparing a dancer, while, of course, his program will include only general physical training and only a few dance elements;
  • the main training program will wait for the child from 7 years old.

It should be noted that during the first two years, the base is being developed, the basics are being studied, and only then the future champion is waiting for the competition. But months of hard training are really worth the skill that participants demonstrate at competitions, charging with drive and the brightest emotions.

Rock and roll is suitable for a variety of children: for hyperactive, emotional, mobile, who can find an outlet for their endless energy, and for calm, even shy children, who will also feel quite comfortable in class and will be able to open up.

The main thing, as Yulia notes, is the desire and ability of the child to work on himself, his not so much physical as volitional endurance: it will definitely not be possible to be lazy and “slack off” in rock and roll.

Interestingly, in acrobatic rock and roll, thinking plays a paramount role. Understanding each element, knowing the technique of its execution, clearly remembering the sequence of elements in the dance - without this, a successful performance is impossible. As Julia Onofryuk says, “ if in any other sport during training, stretching or building muscle strength you can think about something of your own, in rock and roll this will not work: you must clearly understand why the hand comes to a certain point, why you perform that or another element". And such a feature of the dance direction, of course, cannot but render positive impact on the general development child: according to the expert, children who study in her section, over time, begin to study better at school.

How to combine school schedule and acrobatic rock and roll classes

When choosing sports section the most acute question of time arises: how to combine the school schedule and additional classes so that they bring maximum benefit and at the same time do not overload the child? There may be several points of view on this. There is an opinion that it is best to schedule a student-athlete so that all additional classes fit into the grid of five weekdays, and it is better to leave Saturday and Sunday for a good rest. Our expert expresses a different point of view.

Classes in the sports section will fruitfully take place on a day off, when the child has the opportunity to sleep, calmly do household chores and go to training cheerful and rested.

- In our groups, classes are structured as follows: the guys study in different school shifts, and therefore it is often difficult to combine pairs, and on weekdays we work on individual elements with separate pairs, and on weekends we combine what we have all worked out into a single performance- says Julia.

Rock and Roll: Success Factors

Finally, let's talk about success factors. According to Yulia, the efforts of the coach, the child, and the parents are equally important. The main task of parents at first glance is simple, but the expert focuses on it: “ The main thing for parents is to bring the child to the section". It is necessary that the child attend classes regularly, and the best thing is to educate own example: go in for sports and accustom children to this good habit. - It is at this moment that you really fall in love with rock and roll, with this drive, you get crazy energy, without which you simply cannot do it later, and you taste adrenaline when you realize that everything is working out for you,- Julia notes, based, among other things, on her personal experience. By the way, Yulia's pupils participate not only in city and regional competitions, but also travel around different cities, leaving the whole team to high-level competitions.

It is best to come to the section at the beginning of the season, then the child will be most comfortable getting used to the new team and the new way of life for him.

- Our team is very friendly, the guys communicate outside the section: we go to the zoo, to nature, celebrate birthdays together. In the classroom, children help each other, teach each other, share their skills,- says Julia. In addition to the benefits of communicating with new people, classes in the section educate the children in the ability to set and achieve goals. Of course, almost any sport can give all this to a child, but acrobatic rock and roll, among other things, charges positive mood, gives a surge of emotions and unique moments of performances on stage, during which difficult and sometimes boring everyday life of an athlete is forgotten. Acrobatics is evaluated according to such criteria as: safety, height and amplitude, rhythm, rotation speed, acrobatic lines and entry and exit from the element. The assessment of the Acrobatics component is based on the theoretical value of the element and how correctly it was performed.

Individual competitions are held among participants of solo disciplines and couples consisting of a partner and a partner.

Formation mixed

In the categories " juniors and juniors" and " men and women» perform pairs of athletes in the composition of 4 to 6 pairs. By and large, these two categories differ from each other in that in " juniors and juniors» couples demonstrate to the judges only dancing. Whereas the category men and women» provides for the performance of both junior acrobatic elements, and elements of high complexity (flight acrobatics).

It should be noted that our club has two active teams "Formation" girls and "Formation-Mixed" juniors and juniors who successfully perform at Moscow and All-Russian competitions. These teams have more than a dozen prizes in common, 4 of which are gold.

The word rock and roll in translation means "swing and spin." The dance began with the film "School Jungle" (or "Slate Jungle", as the name is also translated), which was released in 1955, in this work incendiary dance was accompanied by the song Rock Around the Clock. Following the heroes of the film, the dance began to be danced all over America, but the sport was still far away. A similar dance, boogie-woogie, also developed.

But the song itself was recorded by singer Bill Haley on April 12, 1954, this day is considered the world day of rock and roll, in Russia, by the way, it coincides with Cosmonautics Day (Gagarin flew into space). And the name of the style of music was invented even earlier - in the early 50s of the twentieth century, this name was voiced by the disc jockey of one of the US radio stations Allan Fried.

In the 70s of the 20th century, Swiss choreographer Rene Sagarra systematized dance moves and combined them with acrobatic ones, and this is how rock and roll appeared with all the attributes of sports - rules, juries, sports festivals. Dance migrated from discos to sports dance floors.

In 1974, the European Rock and Roll Association was founded by France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland, soon other countries joined it, and the organization became worldwide, which was joined by the Jazz Dance Federation.

History in Russia

First club on this dance sport opened in Moscow in 1986, the organizer was Alexey Golev, a year later the first tournament was held.

Today in Russia this sport is developing in almost all regions, but the clubs of Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad are considered leaders. In 2010, the Russians became world champions among adults and juniors.

About ten thousand athletes are professionally trained in Russia, about ten major competitions are held annually. The most titled athletes are multiple world champions Olga Sbitneva and Ivan Yudin.

The dance, which lasts about a minute and a half, is performed to specific music with a clear rhythm. The complexity depends on the age, professional group and is determined by tricks - the simplest class A has only leg movements, and simple semi-acrobatic elements, more experienced dancers do acrobatic elements, including somersaults. Higher acrobatics may include double pirouettes, triple somersaults. This is the most difficult class - M is very spectacular, as it has many acrobatic elements that are difficult to perform, the number and types of which are determined by the rules.

The dance is a pair dance, each partner has his own part of the responsibility. Because of the many tricks, injuries often occur - damage to muscles, ligaments, knee joints. There is a group rock and roll (formation), it is performed without pairs or by many pairs. But this direction is not as spectacular and acrobatic as pair dance, and it's like cheerleading.

Children's sports

Children's rock and roll from a young age includes semi-acrobatics, and then acrobatics, so the warm-up includes the development of the muscles of the press, back, shoulder girdle, legs, exercises to strengthen and stretch the ligaments. The dancer, in order to perform naturally and emotionally, must develop harmoniously.

The training program for children is long, it does not immediately begin with professional movements and tricks, it can be said that the initial training is far from complex dance movements and is available to the smallest children, from the age of five.

At the first stage, children are taught simple dance concepts:

  • strengthen health, harmoniously develop the body;
  • learn to feel different movements with exact parameters;
  • form the correct posture;
  • play various motor games, improvise to the music, using basic dance steps with elements of aerobics.

At the second stage, children are taught:

  • develop dexterity and flexibility through special physical training exercises;
  • work out coordination with the help of motor training;
  • master different dance styles, connecting elements;
  • learn to understand musical expressiveness moving strictly to the music.

In the third stage, children are taught:

  • rock and roll steps in different variations;
  • semi-acrobatic tricks;
  • elements of acrobatics;
  • a bunch of acrobatic and dance elements.

Among the semi-acrobatic tricks available for children, one can single out: sitting on your knees, sitting on an angle on your hands, jumping legs apart, spinning, sitting on your hips, jumping over your arm.

Dance exercises can be done right on the floor. But acrobatics must be learned and perfected on a soft surface. Falls are unavoidable, and every time you touch a hard floor, there can be injury. You need the supervision of a coach on difficult practices to provide additional insurance.

Also, special attention should be given to shoes. They are engaged in sneakers - they distinguish between dancing and running. Dancing is called jazz. They are quite suitable for guys who generally do not do acrobatic stunts associated with falls from great heights.

Well, girls need sneakers with thicker, springy soles. After all, constant jumping provokes fractures of the metatarsal bones (small bones of the foot), flat feet and other foot diseases.
