How to make a drawing from a photo in Photoshop. How to Make a Realistic Painting Effect in Photoshop

Today we will look at a simple technique for creating a pencil drawing from a photo. The technique is so simple that its implementation took me less time than writing a post. In this case, the result is almost absolute similarity with the real one. To get started, open the photo you want to edit in Photoshop and let's get started. This is the photo I chose for this lesson.

Photo preparation

Use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + J) to create a copy of the background layer. We will use it as a basis and rename this copy to "Outlines".

I want to get an imitation of a drawing made pencil we need to strip the color of our "Contours". To do this, execute the "Desaturate" command as shown or use the keyboard shortcuts (Shift + Ctrl + U).

The Grain setting depends on your photo and artistic intent, I chose a value of 2% for my work, since I work in a small photo of only 1000x667 pixels. Use the "Gaussian" checkbox in the "Distribution" item in order to evenly place the resulting noise in our future drawing. And check the "Monochrome" box so that the noise is one color.

Create a copy of this layer in the manner described above and rename it "Canvas" as our drawing will appear on it. Change the blending mode of "Canvas" to darken, you can do this using the drop-down list in the palette shown below.

Hide the "Canvas" under the mask using the "Hide All" command. Following the path Main Menu Layers - Layer Mask - Hide All. The result is a black mask.

The next step is to show the contours of our future creation to simulate a pencil stroke. Go back to the "Paths" layer and apply the "Edge Glow" filter from the "Filter Gallery" to it

How less value the width of the edges, the thinner the contours will turn out, the less brightness of the edges the contours will be less pronounced softening is responsible for the clarity of the contours, the more softening smoother stroke lines. For each image, you need to select these parameters individually based on its size and the number of details.

After completing this operation, click on the "OK" button. We got a negative image, we need to invert it to bring it into a "divine" form. Apply the Invert command to the Paths layer using the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + I). And change the blending mode to "Soft Light" using the palette list, adjust the opacity in the range from 20 to 25%.

Last operation for preparing our photo - creating a substrate. Create a new layer below the Paths layer. Fill it with white (use the keyboard shortcut Shift + F5 in the opened dialog "Use" select Color "White" press OK). With the preparation finished, we proceed directly to the creation of the drawing.

Create a picture from a photo

We will work on the drawing using the “Brush”, take this tool from the program toolbar. In the Tool Options bar, select the Round Curved Sparse Bristle brush.

Give the tool the following options.

The higher the percentage of "Bristles" you specify, the thinner there will be lines imitating pencil shading

Set the opacity of the tool from 40 to 50%. Set the foreground color to white and make the "Canvas" layer mask active. Work on the mask with a white brush to reveal the pattern. To adjust the size of the brush as you work, use the ([) increase (]) decrease keys.

If you make a wrong move, set the foreground color to black and brush over the wrong area, then continue with the white brush. Here is a drawing from the photo I got

That's the whole work, this method of creating a drawing looks most attractive in relation to images with a dark uniform background, it is also suitable for working with landscapes, I think you will find a use for this method and replenish your piggy bank of knowledge in Photoshop

You can easily achieve this with short period. In this lesson, you will learn how to create drawings from a photo using brushes. If you use a graphics tablet in your work, you can achieve an even better effect. In a similar lesson, another option was considered for creating a pencil drawing from a photograph. So, let's begin!

Here is the result you should get:

The lesson used an image from a paid resource, but you can easily find it on the Internet and free photos a similar topic.

1. Image adjustment

Step 1

Open our source in Photoshop. Double click on the Background layer to unlock it and name it Layer 1. Create New layer and name it Layer 2. Set the foreground color to white and then use the fill(G), fill it with white. Place Layer 2 under the source layer.

Convert the color image to black and white. Make the photo layer active and go to the menu Image - Adjustment - Hue / Saturation and in the settings window that appears, reduce the Saturation to -100.

2. Create a picture effect

Step 1

Let's move on to creating the drawing effect itself. Add a layer mask to the tiger layer. To do this, click on the layer mask icon and immediately fill it with black using the tool fill(G).

Next, switch the foreground color to white. The background color should be black. Activate the tool Brush(B). Choose from a set of brushes Flat blunt with short stiff bristles, set the size to 60 pixels. and start applying strokes on the black layer mask (you can experiment with brushes and sizes and choose another one you like).

Step 2

By continuing to paint strokes with a white brush on the layer mask, we restore the image, giving it the texture of the picture. Try to keep the brush strokes like hatching or cross hatching, which mimics the technique of pencil drawing.

Step3

Tool moving(V) Center the image of the tiger in the document and add strokes until you are satisfied. When finished, duplicate this layer with the keys Ctrl+J.

Step 4

Now we need to enhance the effect of the picture. We go to the menu Image - Correction - Levels and set the settings for the RGB channel as in the screenshot, thereby enhancing the contrast and highlighting strokes. After that merge all layers together Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E.

Step 5

You can stop at the result, but it’s better to spend a couple more minutes and make the drawing as close as possible to the real one, made on paper. We will do this with the help of a gradient, we will try to achieve the effect of a photograph of the picture. Right-click on the layer with the picture and in the drop-down menu go to the option Overlay options(you can just double-click on the layer with the left mouse). Choose a layer style Gradient overlay, set the values as in the screenshot.

Today, one of the classic topics is the creation of a pencil drawing effect from a photograph. This is one of those quick and easy techniques that is a real satisfaction for the pros, but also makes the tutorial useful for beginners. Sure, Photoshop is cool and has a lot of built-in filters and artistic effects, but they don't compare to what we want to show you.

What we want to get:

Step 1

Let's start by choosing a photo to work on. It is desirable that the background is clean, and the photo is of high quality. As an extreme option, download such a stock photo.

Only with these conditions we will achieve the desired result.

Step 3

Drag the background layer over the new layer icon in the Layers panel, or use a combination CMD+J to create a duplicate layer. Let's move on Image > Adjustments > Invert(or CMD+I) and right click select Convert to Smart Object / Convert to smart object.

Step 4

Choose Gaussian Blur and change the radius to 40 pix. Usage smart object will apply this filter as a Smart Filter (i.e. smart!) in such a way that we can simply adjust the parameters as needed, instead of constantly applying this effect.

Change the blend mode of the duplicate layer to Color Dodge / Lightening Basics, which will significantly increase the contrast and give the surface the grain that we need.

Step 5

Click on the icon Adjustment Layer / Adjustment layer and choose Levels. Move the shadow sliders and Midtones slightly to the right to darken the image a bit.

Step 6

Add new Adjustment Layer / Adjustment Layer and now select the option Black and White. The default settings will be enough to remove the color and give the image more "pencil".

Step 7

Use CMD+A, to Select All, then use Edit > Copy Merged(or keyboard shortcut CMD+Shift+C). This will clip all visible layers. Click CMD+V to paste this layer on top of the others.

Now we do this: Filter > Filter Gallery / Filter > Filter Gallery, then we go to Glowing Edges from the menu Stylize / Stylization. Change the settings as shown below:

Now Image > Adjustments > Invert(or the CMD+I) to make a negative of the picture (instead of black on white, it will turn out white on a black background).

Step 8

Change the blend mode of this layer to Multiply / Multiplication, then lower the layer's opacity to 50-60%.

Step 9

Click on the icon New Layer / New Layer at the bottom of the palette Layers / Layers, then press cmd+backspace to fill the layer with white (this is the default background color). Back in again Filter Gallery, but now choose Texturizer / Texturizer. Change the settings to Sandstone.

Change the blend mode of this layer to Multiply / Multiplication so you can see the main lines, then lower the opacity to 50% to achieve the texture effect of thin paper. To enhance the color pencil effect, turn off the black and white adjustment layer.

Outcome

As a result, we got quite realistic effect pencil sketch with natural lines and shading.

Translation - Desk

In this simple tutorial, I will show you the technique of how you can make a drawing from an ordinary photo using Photoshop, as if painted with colored paints. The bet is made on the circled edges. It turns out the effect that at first the drawing was sketched with a pencil, and then it was painted over, leaving an underlined stroke of the contours.

Step 10

Activate the bottom black and white layer and set the blending mode to or , depending on how your photo looks.

With mode overlap:

With mode Soft light:

To reduce the intensity of the color, you can lower the value on the second black and white layer or on the background layer.

TOTAL

The finished result should look something like this:

When choosing a photo for processing, please note that the best way This tutorial allows you to style images with nature or with flowers. Macro shots are also suitable for the lesson. Processing portrait or animal shots will likely not look as impressive.

Noticed an error in the text - select it and press Ctrl + Enter . Thank you!

Also use photoshop. There are appropriate filters that make the photo seem to be painted, and there are also several options for a portrait, even watercolor. And it's easy to do, although there are video tutorials for this.

there are special editors, for example, Olympus Master, there are functions for drawing with watercolors, oil paints, with a pencil only need to set up a more realistic version by hand

If the question concerns creating a drawn picture from a photo in the Photoshop editor, then I suggest the following video selection (excluding the videos of those who have already answered):

If this question involves the creation of a painted portrait using third-party programs (this method is especially good for those who do not know how to use Photoshop), then here is another plot (and there is even online programs, where you can make a drawn portrait or still life from a photo - a video is just about such a program):

And there is another option (using CorelDRAW)

Well, I like to do a similar effect automatically on the site - http://www.imgonline.com.ua/cartoon-picture.php (there it is called cartoon)

Even with the default settings, it comes out very well!

  • Making a drawing out of a photo is very easy.

There are several ways to give a photo the look of a pencil drawing or stylize any image as a picture drawn in watercolor, gouache, oil or using other materials.

If the quality and realism of the image are not particularly important to you, but you just need to do it quickly, you can easily get by with online image editors, which are enough on the Internet, for example, these: PhotoFunia , Photo Pencil Sketch or on this site Free online services from Pho.to. There are many other similar ones, but all of them have one significant drawback - the low quality of image processing, and the choice of stylization effects is very small and the conversion tools cannot be customized. I do not use online services, which is why it is monotonous, not of high quality and not interesting. Elements of your own creativity are completely absent.

The second method is also very simple, but it gives you a chance to bring some individual, author's shades into each new image. This is a method using small special programs and applications. There are also a lot of such programs, from very simple ones, in which the quality does not greatly exceed online editors, to quite professional ones. From very simple programs i can advise FotoSketcher and Dynamic Auto Painter.

In a programme FotoSketcher it is very easy to work, there are few settings and by changing them you can achieve a very realistic result.

In a programme Dynamic Auto Painter it is even easier to work, but more interesting, the whole process of changing the picture can be observed in real time and stopped when you are satisfied with the result, there are quite a few profiles in it, under various styles painting. If set additional programs for screen recording and conversion, you can also make animated Gifsquot ;, for example, this one:

Another very good and powerful program, professional level - AKVIS Sketch. This program is not difficult to use, but its capabilities in styling images for a drawing are comparable to those of photoshop a. This program can also work as a plugin for many graphics editors. Understand the tools and settings of the program AKVIS Sketch very easy, but if you still have difficulties - look at the office. developer site, there are a lot of clear reference materials and lessons.

From the same series and a program that is designed to simulate different artistic styles. With the help of programs AKVIS Sketch and AKVIS Artwork you can make very realistic photo stylizations in various artistic styles in a few minutes.

And, of course, the most best quality in processing bitmaps can be obtained in a graphic editor of all times and peoples - in photoshop e ( Adobe Photoshop ). I am using version Adobe Photoshop CS6 13.0 Extended but even earlier versions will achieve very High Quality and realistic images.

It is very difficult to master all of Photoshop on your own, but you can learn how to use some of the functions and filters quite quickly. Watch these video tutorials, exactly on your question and you will not have any problems to make a picture out of a photo.

  • In order to change real photo to hand-drawn, you just need a photo editor for this.

I personally use this site all the time.

Here you can change All your photos into pictures, that is, on this site you can turn a Photo into a painted portrait.

There are many ways how to make a photo look like a painting. The most common and probably the most the easy way which I know is the use of the program Dynamic Auto Painter. This program will automatically do everything necessary to make your photos look like pencil drawings.

You can do everything manually by yourself, having mastered Photoshop. But it is a bit long and requires some effort.

Turn a photo into a painted portrait or turn a digital image into a painted one different styles picture or drawing, in several ways:

    • use graphic editors, special programs, which you need to install on your computer, these programs are used to edit images, including turning a photo into a drawing with watercolors, paints, pencil
    • take advantage graphic editors online
    • use programs that are used to transfer photos from the camera to HDD computer, they can also be used to edit images and turn a photo into a drawing.
  • You can do without Photoshop, there are plenty on the Internet free photos editors and photo templates, in which you simply upload a photo, and on exit it is displayed with the effect you want.

One of them is http://funny.pho.to/ru/ (but there are a lot of them)

The portrait effect will look something like this (but this is not the only "portrait" template, there are better ones)

There are also a bunch of templates for postcards, but of course you need to make your own exclusive in Photoshop

Today this is no longer a difficult task, because there are many programs in order to transform regular photo into a painted portrait. you can use Photoshop, FotoSketcher, Paint, Dynamic Auto-Painter. These programs can be downloaded for free from the Internet.

    Everything is very simple:

there are special filters in Photoshop that will make your photo not only drawn, but also embroidered and rumpled and whatever 🙂

The main thing is that you have Photoshop installed, and it's easy to figure it out

Hi all! nowadays, in order to find the answer to our own questions, you just need to go to the Internet. And for the question that worries you, there are a lot of different and most importantly free photo editors, with the help of them you can easily learn how to turn photos into painted portraits! I myself often use this site and I don’t have any problems. With the help of this site, you can turn your and other photos into a painted portrait!
