How to burn a portrait. Photo burning on wood: an original gift for family and friends

You can burn wood with various ornaments, patterns, images of animals, plants, people, and the list can be endless. In order to transfer the sketch to wood, carbon paper is mainly used. Some of the craftsmen print a drawing on parchment paper, attach it to wood, and burn it out on paper. It melts, leaving burnt strokes. Very experienced craftsmen draw their own sketch on the tree that they want to burn. Portraits are done the same way. They are drawn with a simple black pencil on the board and only then the process begins. But there are also people who draw very badly on their own, and I really want to burn a portrait of their relatives. What to do then? So, let's answer this question and consider the topic of the article, which sounds like this: "Burning a photo on wood."

Variety of options

The very first way is image processing in Photoshop. The image is processed so that it is all in small strokes. After that, the drawings are printed on parchment paper. Attach to wood and begin to burn.

The second of the ways is when an image of a person is printed on a laser printer in a schematic extension. For this, it is best to use special thin photo paper. It is attached to the board with the wrong side and burning begins.

Please note that the heating temperature of the burner must be as low as possible, otherwise the paper may ignite.

This method will not take much of your time. Because of this, he is the best in portrait burning, not only for experienced artists, but also for beginners. After burning it is necessary to remove pieces of paper. To do this, it is necessary that the portrait be completely cooled. Then we take a cotton pad, moisten it with water and wipe the finished work.

The third way is to use a laser machine special purpose. This method not cheap, but also does not require a lot of time and effort. This laser is attached to a personal computer. It performs the function of the brain. We upload a photo into it, process it and send it to the laser to do the work. Then the laser itself starts to burn the image it has received. You just need to varnish the finished portrait.

Now let's look at a few master classes on burning portraits.

Portrait of a girl

To work, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • Copy paper;
  • Plywood sheet;
  • Sandpaper;
  • A simple black pencil;
  • burning apparatus;
  • tassel;
  • Clear nail polish.

First you need to prepare the image itself. We do this with special program and print. Then smooth the surface of the plywood with sandpaper.

We fix the carbon paper and the printed sketch on plywood. We circle. After that, we must check whether all the lines are printed.

We connect the burning device to the mains and wait until it heats up. We burn out. We cover with a layer of colorless varnish.

Here is the picture!

For a sweet girl

For work you will need:

  • Sketch;
  • Wood;
  • burning apparatus;
  • Copy paper;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Colorless varnish;
  • Brush.

Let's get to work.

We scan the selected photo and print it in the required size. We prepare the wood. Smooth it out with sandpaper.

Then we lay carbon paper on the finished base, and a drawing on top of it. Fasten with tape. And we start tracing the outline. At the end, we check whether all the lines are printed on the wood. If somewhere it’s bad, then we carefully finish it.

We connect the device for burning to the network and wait until it heats up to the required temperature. We start to burn. After the work is completed, you need to carefully remove the extra pencil lines. We do this with an eraser.

We cover the finished portrait with a layer of colorless varnish. We clean in a place inaccessible to children until completely dry.

Hi all!

My name is Anton and I present a project of photo burning on wood.

I'll start from the beginning of the foundation of my small business.

I live in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk with a population of 200 thousand people.

In October 2015, I thought about starting my own business. At that time I worked as a teacher at a school and continue to this day.

I have always liked doing something that makes people happy. And after a long analysis, I decided to do engraving and photo-engraving on various products.

I purchased equipment and supplies. I created a group in the social network and started working.

I was surprised how well this service received from people. The orders were completely different. From an ordinary engraving on a token to a wedding lock.

I began to develop this business and now, after six months, I decided to expand my activities. I started looking for ideas and found what I like.

My gaze settled on the burning of portraits on wood using a pyroprinter. P Having conducted a survey among my customers about the relevance of this service, I received a positive response.

A little about the CNC burner:

All of us in childhood burned different patterns and pictures according to patterns in technology lessons.And when something worked out for us, we were sincerely happy about it. They ran to show the rollers or gave this product to a neighbor girl.A handmade gift is of great value.

What is this burning method?

This is a special machine, assembled from different parts, which is based on a system of numbers according to the CNC principle. The machine is connected to a computer, a program is launched on the computer that is connected with the machine itself. After the photo is edited and sent for burning.

The machine, using a tungsten filament, gradually burns out an image on a wooden blank.

Now, to launch this idea, I collect a certain amount of money.

Where the funds raised will go:

1. CNC burner

2. Software for working with the burner

3. Special mortar for wood surface treatment

4. Purchase of an uninterruptible power supply unit (in case of a power outage)

5. Initial material for work

There are already 70 thousand available to launch the idea and promote it. Help develop this service in our city, I think you would want such a portrait yourself! :)

A little bit about yourself

Burning is my passion. You can burn not only on wood, but also on leather, paper and other materials, but you need to approach them prepared. My master class will help you gain such experience - it is designed just for beginners. Before starting work, I found a photograph, scanned it and printed it in the size I needed: it turned out to be about 20 by 25 centimeters. I then found a suitable piece of wood and sanded it properly with sandpaper (first 400 grit and then 600 grit). This must always be done before working with the tree. Then I polished it with a brown paper bag (btw! works the same as sandpaper), moving it in the same way as when sanding. Now I'm ready to transfer the picture to the tree. I arrange the image, fix it. One day I found that it is very convenient to use tape or masking tape to fix it - this does not allow the picture to move while I transfer the image. Now I always do this, attaching the picture by the top edge. The next step is to place the carbon paper under the portrait. Make sure you place the carbon paper right side up against the wood so you don't get a photo print on the reverse side paper, not on wood. I always look at what I'm getting at the beginning of the work, to be completely sure that I'm doing everything right. I use a red pen and start tracing the main lines of the photo. The red ink allows me to see which lines I have already translated. The photo transferred to the tree looks something like this ...

Now I'm ready to burn the portrait. Using thin shading, I start with the eyes. I always do the eyes first, it helps me to keep the likeness of the portrait, and in general, leaving them in the end is not correct. Important! Never use a tilted tool to outline anything in a portrait - it leaves deep marks on the wood. You also need soft features of the eyes. I use the tip ballpoint pen to outline the iris and pupil so that they appear not to be in the tree, but above it. Here are the eyes of baby Megan and completed.

Next I make her nose, mouth, teeth and add some shadow to some areas of the face, again using thin shading. I also slightly emphasize the shape of her face ... and she begins to come to life.

Now I'm moving along the left side of her face, adding more shadow. Using hatching, I draw and shape her ear. I add a light shadow on the cheek, chin and forehead. Then I change the attachment and, using the hair painting attachment, I begin to easily add hair to her, being careful to keep right direction their growth.

I paint over her hair, watching where the highlights are located - in those places I stroke weaker. Please note that her hairline is not clear and discontinuous, there are always strands that stand out.

It's time to move on to the fur on her sweater. I turn the picture sideways and, using hatching, start with the fur under the chin and start hatching "towards me" the left side of the collar. I sometimes warm up the tool so that some areas are darker than others. Now I turn the picture straight and stroke the right side of the collar “away from me”. The result looks something like this.

Now it's time to work on her sweater. I tried to imagine what a knitted fabric looks like in a sweater, and made a couple of experimental sketches. I take my hair tool and, using a hot and lukewarm tool, I begin to draw lines on the sweater. Pay close attention to the curves and shapes of the sweater. Previously, after I applied all the lines, I hatched a light shadow around each line. This time I wanted to create an effect where the top of the sweater is darkened and the lines zigzag across the wood without casting a shadow. It's great, right?

And last but not least. I look around the portrait and decide where I need to darken a bit more. When I feel that the work is almost finished, I put it somewhere in the house for a couple of days so that I can see it when I pass by. This allows me to see if I missed anything. After a few days, I return to work and correct all the shortcomings that I noticed during this time, and finish. I sign and the job is done. I hope you enjoyed reading my step by step instructions. I made this portrait for about 40 hours.

Burnout is not just child's play, but often— it is a hobby that brings beautiful creations into the world. Everyone can learn how to burn, regardless of whether you have the makings of an artist or simply don’t have them. I told about where to start, which tells.

Today I will talk about how to burn out more complex paintings. Perhaps you will be able, of course, not the first time, to burn, for example, a portrait of your beloved.

What you need to burn the picture:

Computer with graphic programs installed and laser printer,

High-quality photo (from a low-quality photo, a drawing for burning out may not turn out),

Acetone, cotton wool or bandage,

Board, planed or better plywood, fine sandpaper,

Burner,

Varnishes: nitro varnish and long drying PF.

Today we will learn how to make a cutting board with a scorched portrait. First of all, you need to prepare the basis for burning, that is, the cutting board itself. How to do it, I will not talk in this article. I can only say that after you prepare the cutting board, the plane on which the drawing will be applied must be sanded with fine sandpaper until a uniform white surface is obtained. Be sure to remove any remaining dust after sanding. You can immediately sand the other side, so as not to do this later. And so the foundation is ready.

Now let's move on to difficult stage getting a drawing from a photo for burning. What programs do you need to create a drawing? Well, whoever has Photoshop or similar programs, you can use them. I did take advantage free program from Yandex: Yandex. Photos and the program included with Microsoft Office: Microsoft Office picture manager.

We select the photo we want to edit and create a separate folder for it and copy it there so that if the end result does not work out, you don’t have to worry. Open the photo you want to burn using Yandex. Photos. To do this, open the program and select File - Add Photos ..., select the folder in which your photo is located, click OK.

After the photo images are loaded, you either select all the photos to add, or just the one you need and click Import.

Now your photo has been added to Yandex. Photos. Click on the picture and press the button Editor at the bottom of the program.

Now you need to use the Visual Effects, specifically the Sketch.

Click on the sketch and select the Contrast and Force of Impact, so that the contours are most successfully and clearly conveyed, the most important thing here is not to overdo it and find a middle ground. And click the Apply button.

The next step is to get clearer and thicker lines, for this we go to Color Correction. I have for this photo I had to turn down the gamma, and set the rest of the settings to the maximum. And then click the Apply button. And we exit the Yandex. Photos.

This is what we got after working in the Yandex. Photos.

The next step is to work with Microsoft Office Picture Manager. I won’t go into details, I’ll only say that here we go to the section to change pictures ..., where we adjust the brightness and contrast. So that the drawing is most successfully translated onto plywood or wood.

Now I will tell you why all these operations with the photo were carried out. At one time, there was a program on the Domashny TV channel with the famous decorator Marat Ka, and in one of the episodes he showed how an image printed on a laser printer is transferred to a wooden surface. The fact is that a laser printer applies dry toner to a sheet of paper and is cauterized by a laser. Some of the toner remains poorly attached to the sheet of paper and can be transferred using acetone to the wood. I have used this property. True, transferring an image from a sheet to a tree or plywood will not work right away.

In order to transfer a drawing for burning onto wood, you need to properly prepare the drawing so that the lines have a certain thickness so that when copying a sufficient amount of toner remains on the wood and the drawing is clear. Cotton wool should be wrapped in a bandage and moistened. In this case, in no case should the cotton wool be very wet. The cotton wool should be slightly damp, otherwise the image will simply blur. It is better before you start translating the image, try to draw a drawing on some unnecessary piece of wood with a moistened cotton wool and only then, transfer the image to the tree.

We take our board and put a sheet of paper with a pattern on it, with the side where the image is printed, to the board. Position the image the way we want. The image transferred to the board will turn out in a mirror image. And if you want to burn the inscription, then in the figure it must all be in a mirror image, so that when you reduce the drawing to a tree, you get a normal inscription. Holding the paper with your hand, we begin to drive a small radius with rotational movements over the drawing, gradually covering the entire drawing. After you go through the entire drawing, you can once again quickly go over the entire drawing and remove the sheet of paper.

Pyrography, also known as the art of wood burning, is gaining more and more popularity every day among people all over the world. age groups and categories. One of the reasons for such an unexpected surge of interest in wood burning, we believe, is the emergence of new, easy and safe to use tools - pyrographs. Pictures created specifically for burning on any tree are great gift for any celebration, made with love with your own hands. The person who gives you such a present shows all the power of his love and attention to you, because he will need at least several hours to make one such work.

How to choose a tool and wood for making scorched paintings:
  • Wood burning is an art that does not require any expensive, hard-to-find tools and materials. As a burning tool for beginners the most ordinary soldering iron may come up, which has the shape of an ordinary writing pen, slightly larger than our usual one, which means that you will simply trace the lines of a drawing previously applied to the base material. Some people use as a pyrograph nails heated with a flame of a lighter or a burner, which are held with a hat by pliers. This method is not suitable for everyone. Ideal option there will be a professional pyrograph or its most budgetary analogue - a burner, which you can purchase at any specialized store.
  • Images for such paintings do not have to be drawn by hand with a pencil, it is enough download the picture you like on the Internet, print and carry it to the tree. You can transfer the drawing to the tree using black graphite paper; unlike ordinary carbon paper, it is easily erased if necessary and retains the accuracy of the image lines when heated. Some print the drawing on thin parchment paper, glue it to the tree and burn it out. The paper melts from heating, and the excess is then easily removed. Choose first lungs patterns and ornaments that will help you fill your hand and hone your burning skills.
  • It is better for young burners to take wooden blanks cut from soft, easily processed trees, with a uniform fiber structure. For this, the wood of such trees as poplar, aspen, linden is suitable. Small blanks are a great start for beginner pyrographs. Do not forget to grind the surface of the plank with fine-grained sandpaper immediately before work. Instead of wooden boards, sawn out on your own, you can use inexpensive and commonly available plywood, because it does not have a pronounced structure and is easy to burn out.

We study options for paintings for wood burning

It is better to take simple sketches for the first works, with a minimum number of lines and strokes. After you notice that such sketches are already quite easy for you, and it takes much less time to complete them than at first, it's time to start burning more complex pictures, for example, with the image of animals, nature, and sometimes people.

Well-known pyrographists draw their inspiration from everything that surrounds them, but the most popular are the images with the help of fire on a wooden base of animals, birds, nature, less often people, some unusually complex ornaments consisting of many small details. You can see all this in the photos below.

Julia Bender's paintings are filled with small details and the play of shadows. Small strokes with the metal tip of the pyrograph convey every, even the smallest hair of an animal. The feeling that you are looking at a photographic image will not leave you until the very last seconds. But no, all these beautiful animals are made using the technique of burning wood with a red-hot pyrograph.

Peter Walker burns his paintings onto surfboards. Its bright ornaments are a mixture of animal and flora, flavored with rich blue hues. In some of his paintings, traces of flame are intricately intertwined in colors on the skin of exotic animals.

Rick Merian has been wood burning relatively recently. The main theme of his images are movie characters of the most famous and popular films/series and tattoos that he saw on the bodies of his entourage. I think you can easily recognize many of the faces in the scorched paintings.
