Necessary tools and materials

5. Two pieces of furniture fabric (under the size of the base for the seat).

The swing is a construction of a rectangular base measuring 2 by 1.5 meters and small triangles on two (shorter) sides of this base, interconnected by a crossbar. Mounts with a seat are placed on the crossbar. For the construction of supports, you will need to saw off:

• 3 long segments (two for the lower transverse supports and one for the upper crossbar) 2 meters each;
• 4 middle segments (for vertical inclined supports) of 2.2 meters each;
• 2 short pieces (for the side parts of the swing base) of 1.5 meters each - you can do without them.

Details for the construction of the seat

The design of the swing seat is 2 rectangles connected to each other at an angle of 100 degrees. To make a seat you will need:

• 3 metal pieces (for horizontal supports above, below and in the center of the seat) 1.6 meters long;
• 3 pieces (for vertical seat back supports) 0.88 meters long;
• 3 pieces (for vertical supports of the bottom of the seat) 0.5 meters long.

Fastening parts

The fasteners in this swing are two rebar loops welded to the top bar. Mounting hooks for a climbing cord are inserted into the loops, which will hold a garden swing from a profile pipe. Weld the reinforcement to the crossbar should be in advance.

Assembling the swing

Before you weld a swing from pipes, you should prepare the pipes themselves: remove rust from them and chamfer at the welding points. When assembling, it is recommended to follow the following sequence:

• Measure and mark the welding spots on the corner pieces. In these places, the pipes should be chamfered at an angle of 45 degrees.
• Pipe welding is carried out according to the planned scheme. The first step is to build a rectangular base. For this, two long and two short segments metal pipe simply welded together, forming a classic rectangle.
• When welding parts, you should carefully check their location using the building level: so that the angles of inclination of each of the pipes are observed.
• Further, on both sides of the rectangle (along its short sides), vertical supports are fitted, forming a triangle.
• Between the vertices of the triangle, a crossbar is installed with fasteners for a rope (or chain) pre-installed on it.
• The base is ready. You can start assembling the seat. The first step is to weld the bottom of the seat - it is a classic rectangle with sides of 660x1600 mm and an additional stiffener in the middle.
• Then the back of the seat is assembled - in the form of an inverted letter W. Using a welding machine, the back is welded to the bottom at an angle of 100 degrees.
• If desired, the seat can be additionally equipped with handles, drink holders, a folding table.
• When assembling the seat, it is necessary to provide for the preparation of holes for fasteners.
• The resulting structure is reinforced with metal corners. Metal corners are welded into each corner of the structure: 4 at the corners of the base, 2 at the top of the triangular supports, 2 at the top of the seat day.
• After welding, all details of the future swing are covered with paint or enamel for metal.
• The connection of the seat and the frame is carried out using a strong belt cord (or iron chain) and steel hooks. To prevent the rope from “driving” in loops, you will need to secure it with clamps.
• On this, the main part of the work is done, the garden swing made of pipes is almost ready. It remains only to prepare the mattress for the swing.
• To make a mattress for a swing, you will need to sew 2 large flat pillows measuring 880x1600 mm (for the back) and 500x1600 (for the day) and about 10 cm thick.
• It is desirable to provide each of the pillows with a zipper - this will avoid problems with cleaning.
• Rope ponytails can be sewn along the perimeter of the pillows - with their help it is convenient to fix the mattress to the base and remove it if necessary.

In the absence of a canopy over the swing, you will need to cover them from precipitation in rainy weather. A piece of plastic wrap or a car cover will do for this.

It is assumed that the presented model will be stationary, and therefore it is impossible to move it from place to place - it is too heavy. Therefore, a place for a swing should be determined and prepared in advance. It should be even - so that the base lies on the ground, adjacent to it around the entire perimeter.

In some cases (when the surface of the earth is too uneven) you will have to prepare a concrete or wooden pedestal for the swing. Alternatively, the ground for the swing can be leveled and then reinforced with a plastic base.
