The commission then passed into the hands of Steve Ditko, a darker Kirby artist accustomed to giving life to mysterious and unusual characters. with Ditko with the final portrayal of Spider-Man completely rejecting Kirby's previous work, which used a traditional superhero costume and a partial mask, Buccaneer gloves and boots, and a gun of sorts.
