Andrey Gennadievich Pozdeev(September 27, 1926, the village of Nizhny Ingash, Krasnoyarsk Territory - July 12, 1998) - Russian and Soviet artist. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (since 1961).

Biography

Born in the family of a postal clerk Gennady Danilovich Pozdeev and his wife Evdokia Ivanovna.

He worked as a fireman's assistant. During the Great Patriotic War he served in the Far Eastern Fleet.

He began to comprehend painting on his own: he visited exhibitions, museums and galleries, studied the work of the great masters of the past, read books, painted from life. Subsequently, he graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Art School named after V.I. Surikov (teacher - A.P. Lekarenko).

Andrey Pozdeev about his understanding of the artist's work:

... The artist as a person is more individual. He allows himself what other people may not allow. But he has a great duty: to give himself as he is. He gets naked, he's naked. And he must also have a head, think like a philosopher. Philosophers of thought are an incredible thing. They talk about the same thing, but each from the side of his individuality. And I still have to color transfer. And I am obliged, if I got into this business for the rest of my life - and here life is not enough - to improve and develop all the time until the very last day, as much as fate has given me.

Personal exhibitions of the artist were held in the museums of Tallinn and Riga, in the State Russian Museum, in the State Tretyakov Gallery, in the Central House of Artists in Moscow. Paintings by Andrei Pozdeev are in many museums around the world, including the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum. A significant collection of paintings by the artist is in the collection of the Krasnoyarsk State Art Museum. IN AND. Surikov.

He died on July 12, 1998 in his workshop in Krasnoyarsk. He was buried at the Badalyk cemetery in the city of Krasnoyarsk.

The authors are architect Mikhail Merkulov and sculptor Yuri Zlotya. During the existence of the monument, a part of the townspeople and many visitors have developed a tradition: when passing by the monument, you should definitely rub its nose. Painter from Siberia. Andrey Pozdeev went through almost all the main stages of world art in his development: realism - impressionism - post-impressionism - fauvism - abstractionism. And this was not an imitation, but a consistent development of his personal consciousness and creative method.

With the art of Andrei Gennadievich Pozdeev, things are complicated. He has many enthusiastic and committed fans, mostly in a professional environment. Among the non-professional public, some evaluate his paintings according to the principle “incomprehensible, but great,” while others tell their companion with bewilderment that “I can do such a daub.” There are also those who are perplexed among the professionals. One of my friends, a good and very famous artist, a 100% realist, although not at all a dogmatist and not denying the avant-garde, speaks well of Pozdeev’s early works and sincerely does not understand where art is in his latest, non-figurative paintings. And he considers the glory of Pozdeev inflated and exaggerated.

Pozdeev A.G. 1962 Divnogorsk is being built a fragment of K., m. 50 x 70

Pozdeev is unique, a real nugget and a self-mademan (from the English "selrmademan" - a person who "made himself"), he studied only a year at an art school, surpassing many, many who spent 10-15 years at a school-college-institute. And this one year was enough for him, just to learn the basics of literacy and understand the main thing that should distinguish a professional from an amateur. Then he studied himself, from nature and from the masters of the past, whose works he diligently and, most importantly, consciously copied in his youth. He also learned to recognize and express himself and his own, only his inherent vision of the world.

Pozdeev A.G. 1968 Young artists H., m 133 x 205

He is called the “Siberian Matisse”, probably, there are reasons for such a comparison, but only he is not Matisse, but Andrey Pozdeev. And he never adjusted to anyone, he wrote as he breathed, not trying to surprise anyone. Only in recent years, intuition has been replaced by reason, mathematical calculations and rigid geometry have appeared in the paintings, although the color still remains spontaneous in a Pozdeevsky way. Perhaps this was the result of a fascination with books on formal analysis, which Pozdeev, a childish soul with shining eyes, allowed himself to be carried away.

Pozdeev A.G. 1974 Gennady Danilovich Portrait of Father K., m. 122 x 100

Not that it was harmful, and Andrei Gennadievich himself was not one of those who blindly follow someone else's orders. Most likely, he was internally ready for something like this, for the search for formulas and symbols that could contain a meaning that was not conveyed by the language of objective art. Although before that he was absolutely independent and, having many imitators among his young admirers, he himself never imitated anyone. Here, having become, as many believe, a completely different Pozdeev, he not only tried to express the inexpressible, but also, I fully admit it, to play an exciting game. After all, until old age, being a wise and adult man, he remained at the same time a child.

Pozdeev A.G. 1975 When I write lilac H., m 105 x 120

And the formal composition is such a bewitching game! You draw a black circle on a white background, and it becomes a window into space, it is a symbol of the universe and a metaphor for our life. And here black and white compete, but do not win. What happens if you add black? Or subtract? Who will win? Black or white? Good or evil? God or Devil? What happens if you add red? Or cross the white circle with black, so that a blue oval appears in their superposition? And so on ad infinitum, each time getting new and new options. Semantic. Picturesque. Finally decorative...

Pozdeev A.G. 1979 Reading H., m 103 x 122

A lot has been written about Pozdeev, it is often noted that in different periods of his work he was influenced by various artistic movements. In his work, they see the influence of Van Gogh, the resemblance to Albert Marquet, etc., etc. Not that this is not true. And it's not like it doesn't depend on anything. Any artist, in one way or another, depends on his predecessors, and any artist, for better or worse, knows the history of art. All this somehow happened differently in relation to Pozdeev. Who has not met artists, most often young ones, who, having discovered a new idol, tried to be like him. And Pozdeev himself was such an idol for some. And who does not know artists who are aware of the latest trends, but do not apply this knowledge at all in their own work.

Pozdeev A.G. Composition

Here is Znak or Ryauzov: what, they didn't know Gauguin or Kandinsky? But they wrote in their own way. Art has the right to be different. It is foolish to deny the so-called avant-gardism, but it is no smarter to proclaim the imminent death of realism. If you are talented and honest, you can walk the road laid by the old masters, but you will walk it on your own.

Pozdeev A.G. 1995 Elders H., m 110 x 110

Andrey Pozdeev went through almost all the main stages of world art in his development: realism - impressionism - post-impressionism - fauvism - abstractionism. And this was not an imitation, but a consistent development of his personal consciousness and creative method. For him, these phases were natural stages of personal creative growth. Having mastered the realistic style, enriched with the experience of impressionism, he became quite a traditional and good landscape painter. The works of the turn of the 1940s-1950s are superbly written and confidently arranged, even at the level of a sketch showing the ability to be paintings. The level of professionalism is such that it is impossible to believe that the author has only a year of art school behind him.

Pozdeev A.G. 1997 Colors of the earth. Flowers and sun H., m. 70 x 100

And he could, continuing this line, be on a par with other good landscape painters. But, both in world art and in the development of Pozdeev, impressionism said almost everything that could be said about visible reality. And there was a need to express something that is hidden behind it, that is in our experiences about this visible reality. And it, this reality, can be changed in some way, deformed, painted in a different way. Otherwise, how to write a dream? Sadness? Love? Pain? Joy? This is what post-impressionism, which grew up on the soil of impressionism, learned, and this is what Pozdeev came to in landscapes and still lifes of the early 1960s. And in the mid-1960s, the realization gradually comes that the world in which we live is not so good. He can be dangerous, inhuman. His future is unclear and tormented by a premonition of trouble. And the stream of red flags flowing through the streets and bridges on the day of the October demonstration becomes a stream of blood that fills the soul with horror and anxiety.

Pozdeev A.G. 1986 Asters H., m. 120 x 97

And the mountains are heaping up in strenuous effort. And the beaten game cries out for vengeance. Actually, this was the beginning of Pozdeev's discord with some part of the public. The viewer, accustomed to seeing in the picture a double of reality and able to evaluate only the external plausibility of the depicted objects, seeing broken houses depicted without volume and perspective, primitively drawn trees, cars and figures of people, is sincerely perplexed: “My child will draw even better!” How can such a viewer know that a child - and children really are brilliant and can spontaneously draw something that no academician of painting is capable of - a child, however, will not be able to build a composition and rhythm so accurately, achieve a symbolic sound of color and color harmony .

Pozdeev A.G. Composition

Simply put, it is not required that a house or a person be similar. From the purpose of the image, the object turns into a means. A means to express something that is beyond the visible reality. A kind of sign, and it is enough for it to be read: here is a house, here is a man, here is a tree, here is a flower. It looks like expressionism, but the art of "The Scream" (that's the name of the painting by Edvard Munch, which has become a kind of hallmark of this trend) is too mind-boggling. There comes a moment when you don’t want to scream about the horror of this world, but try to improve it at least around you, bring harmony and clarity.

Pozdeev A. Krasnoyarsk. Embankment

Naturally, when the resource of an object as an exponent of what is behind the object has been mastered and is close to exhaustion, the question arises: is it needed now - this object? So in the late period of creativity, Andrei Pozdeev came to non-objective painting, and in this direction, by no means new to world art, he did not get lost, he remained himself.

Pozdeev A.G. Poems 1977

Pozdeev's graphics are a special topic, you can't tell about it in a nutshell. I will only note that such conciseness and accuracy of the composition, such a confident use of the cutter and such an ability to almost without a line and practically without a stroke, with just spots of white and black, to achieve in linocut the impression of both depth of space and volume of form, achieved by an artist who never studied graphic technicians are just phenomenal.

Pozdeev A. Portrait of the artist T.V. Ryannel

Each time, having mastered a certain level of form and content, he could further cultivate this field of complete perfection. But a new task called him ahead, and he began a new ascent. I dare say this. If there were no impressionism, no fauvism, etc., Pozdeev would have discovered them, because he developed in the same direction as the entire world culture. Maybe he physically would not have had time to live up to abstract art, but he went to it simply according to the logic of his evolution, his ascent to a complicated understanding of the inexhaustible possibilities of art and life.

Andrey Pozdeev is one of the largest Russian artists of the second half of the 20th century, known to the professional community throughout Russia and, especially, Siberia, his homeland. In Krasnoyarsk, he became a legend, one of the heroes of the modern cultural history of the city. Now any citizen of Krasnoyarsk will immediately name the names of two artists associated with the city - Vasily Surikov and Andrey Pozdeev. After the death of the artist, the townspeople on a voluntary basis raised money and erected a monument to Pozdeev. The author, sculptor Yuri Zlotya, was little acquainted with Pozdeev during his lifetime and took the path of conveying not so much the inner essence as the external likeness. The result is an eccentric bronze character, slightly taller than a human, with a sketchbook on his shoulder, under an umbrella, as if he had stopped at a pedestrian crossing. The monument not only expresses, but designates the artist, without creating a zone of exclusion and irritation around itself, as is usually the case with the state "monumental". But the monument took root and, judging by the sparkling rubbed nose, acquired some kind of magical functions. It is believed, for example, that everyone who begins to draw, or who is already going to an exam at the Art Institute, should at random slowly touch Pozdeev. And he does not mind, although he could have bought goods in full with a bronze shaft of an umbrella. In Krasnoyarsk, many people still remember Pozdeev alive - a kind man, albeit sometimes sharp in matters of creativity, outstanding, carrying a feeling of rare happiness. Therefore, young people also treat the monument as a good omen. (And at school No. 69, the artist Vladimir Vaganov created the Pozdeev Museum, called the “Museum of a Kind Man”). However, there are not so many of those who understand and love Pozdeev's own painting.
