Leading countries in terms of gas. World leaders in natural gas production in the world

Natural gas is a mineral formed as a result of the anaerobic decomposition of organic matter under the influence of high temperature and pressure.

The dead organisms sank to the seabed, forming silty sediments, which, due to geological displacements, penetrated to great depths.

It was there that for millions of years a process took place in which the carbon that is part of the sedimentary rocks became part of the compounds called hydrocarbons. It .

Characteristics

Natural gas in the conditions of occurrence in the bowels of the Earth (reservoir conditions) is an autonomous accumulation or deposit. it is formed in the form of a cap - this is the so-called free gas.

It can also exist in crystalline or dissolved form.

Natural gas is not a homogeneous substance.

Its main part is methane (CH4) - the simplest hydrocarbon (98%). It also contains methane homologues:

  • butane (C4H10);
  • propane (C3H8);
  • ethane (C2H6).

and some impurities of the non-hydrocarbon category:

  • helium (He);
  • nitrogen (N2);
  • hydrogen sulfide (H2S);
  • hydrogen (H2);
  • carbon dioxide (CO2).

Natural gas in its pure form is odorless and colorless. In order to detect a leak, a small proportion of odorants is added to it. Most often, ethyl mercaptan (a sulfur-containing substance) is used for this purpose, which is characterized by a sharp unpleasant odor.

Deposits and reserves

In the post-Soviet territory, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan (Karachaganak field) and Turkmenistan have the largest deposits of natural gas.

Russia's share in the world production market is more than 20%.

The main deposits are concentrated in the Volga-Ural, Timan-Pechora and West Siberian gas-bearing provinces, as well as in the Far East and the North Caucasus.

  • Urengoy The field ranks second in the world in terms of in-situ natural gas reserves. It is located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District of the Tyumen Region. Gas production began here in 1978.
  • Nakhodka The field is located in the Bolshekhetskaya depression of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. According to experts, gas reserves in this place exceed 275 billion cubic meters. Its development started in 2004.
  • Angaro-Lenskoe The deposit was discovered at the beginning of the 21st century. It is located in the Irkutsk region, near the Angara and Lena rivers, in accordance with which the name was given to it. Natural gas reserves are approximately 1.4 trillion cubic meters.
  • Kovykta The field is located 450 km northeast of the city of Irkutsk, on a high mountain plateau covered with dark coniferous taiga. The climatic conditions in this area are very severe. Part of the territory is dominated by permafrost. In addition, a large number of canyons complicate the relief of this area. The amount of natural gas reserves reaches two trillion cubic meters and 120 million tons of liquid gas condensate.
  • Shtokman gas condensate field is one of the largest in the world. Its discovery took place in 1988. Location - the central part of the shelf of the Barents Sea, approximately 600 km northeast of the city of Murmansk. The volume of gas reserves is 3.8 trillion cubic meters. Due to the great depth of gas occurrence, as well as difficult development conditions, production is not yet carried out here. The implementation of a project to extract minerals requires high-tech equipment and significant costs.

It should also be noted large deposits of natural gas in Russia and the CIS countries.

  • Igrimskoye and Pokhromskoye (Berezovskaya gas-bearing region).
  • Pelagiadinskoe and Severo-Stavropolskoe (Stavropol Territory).
  • Dagestan Lights (Dagestan).
  • Bairam-Ali, Shatlyk, Kyzylkum (Central Asia).
  • Ust-Silginskoye and Myldzhinskoye (Vasyugan gas-bearing region).

Other countries

In addition to Russia, Iran (fields on the shelf of the Persian Gulf), Saudi Arabia (Gavar field), Qatar (Rnoe field) are among the countries with the most gas reserves.

Gas production in Europe has declined in recent years by almost one third, with a significant increase in prices. Developments are being carried out in Great Britain, Germany, France, Poland, Ukraine, Austria, Romania. In these European countries, there is mainly shale gas, but its production is expensive and environmentally unsafe.

The US is ahead of Russia in gas production, but the process of reducing volumes is already noticeable. America is finding new markets, it is preparing to export shale gas to Europe.

Mining methods

The extraction of natural gas is carried out through wells, by extracting it from the depths. During this process, the formation pressure in the reservoir falls rhythmically, due to the fact that the wells are distributed evenly throughout the field. Natural gas fills microscopic voids in the earth's interior.

under natural pressure

They are interconnected by means of cracks-channels, through which gaseous substances move from pores with low pressure to pores with higher pressure until they are in the well and begin to rise up.

Such natural gas contains various impurities that are removed at gas processing plants or at special stations for subsequent transportation.

From the coal mines

There are several other mining methods.

Extraction of methane gas from coal mines in order to prevent an explosion. This fishery is actively practiced in the USA. Gas formation occurs exclusively in the gap between anthracite and brown coal.

hydraulic fracturing

Most Ra A popular hydraulic fracturing technique, the principle of which is to inject water or air flow through the well.

As a result of this technique, the partitions are destroyed and minerals rise outward.

In some countries, this method is prohibited, as it can lead to an earthquake.

Under water

As you know, most large gas fields are under water. For production, inclined wells are built near the coastline, directed towards the water. High piles are installed at a shallow depth.

Floating platforms are used to work on deposits in depth zones from 100 to 300 meters, at the corners of which there are stabilizing elements like columns.

A drilling rig is installed in the center.

In the area where the drilling process will take place, the supports go down to the bottom, followed by deepening into the ground.

At particularly great depths (up to 3000 meters), semi-submersible platforms are used. They are placed on pontoons and held by 15-ton anchors. Gravity-type platforms are considered the most stable. The support columns are made of concrete.

They are equipped not only with drilling rigs, but also with tanks with pipelines in which raw materials are stored.

Technological process

The main equipment for natural gas production is a drilling rig.

It is a four-legged metal tower, the height of which is from 20 to 30 meters. A thick steel pipe with a drill at the lower end is suspended from it. Its rotation occurs under the action of the rotor. The pipe is lengthened as the depth of the well increases, where a special liquid mass is injected so that the destroyed rocks do not clog it. This is done with a pump through a pipe.

The solution cleans the space between the pipe and the walls of the well, removing limestone and sandstone. The liquid washing out the destroyed rocks simultaneously contributes to the rotation of the drill. Until the bottom of the well is reached, the mud is responsible for rotating a turbine attached to the drilling rig. Such a device is called a turbodrill.

The improved mechanism involves the operation of several turbines at once, mounted on a common shaft. Since the produced gas in the subsoil is under high pressure, a series of steel bolts are installed to lift it through the pipes, which control the release and prevent accidents associated with its high release rate.

Storage and transportation

The extracted natural gas is stored in special hermetic, gas-tight tanks.

For liquefied raw materials, special steel containers are designed, which have double walls. They can also be made from durable aluminum alloys. As a rule, a non-thermal-conducting material is laid between the walls, which prevents the heating of the gas.

The largest gas storage facilities are built underground. Dense mountain layers act as walls. In order for the rocks not to be destroyed, they are concreted. Storage for liquefied gases can be in the form of a deep mine working. It is a pit or pit, which is hermetically sealed with a metal hatch.

The main method of gas transportation is pipeline. The movement is carried out through pipes with a large diameter.

The pressure is 75 atmospheres. It is stably maintained at a certain level due to the presence of compressor stations located at a fixed distance from each other.

Gas transportation is also carried out using tankers (gas carriers).

They transport liquefied gas under thermobaric conditions. This method involves a number of preparatory processes for the use of tankers.

It is required to stretch a gas pipeline to the seashore, equip a liquefaction plant and build a port.

This method of transportation is economically justified, especially if the consumer is located at a distance of more than 3000 km from the point of production.

Impact of gas production systems on the environment

35% of the total atmospheric emissions are waste from stationary sources related to the gas production system. Of these, only 20% are captured and neutralized. This is a fairly low figure among all industries. The gas transportation system has a significant technogenic impact on the environment. Approximately 70% of all emissions enter the atmosphere. At gas compressor stations, the following operations are carried out, which are accompanied by emissions of harmful substances:

Application

Natural gas is widely used as a fuel in private residences and apartments for heating, hot water and cooking. It also acts as a fuel for CHP boilers and machines. Natural gas is one of the best types of fuel for domestic and industrial needs. Its main value lies in the fact that it is an environmentally friendly mineral fuel, the combustion of which produces a small amount of harmful compounds.

The cost of gas production is constantly growing. for example, in 2014 in Russia it increased by 12% over the year.

Natural gas is formed by mixing various gases in the earth's crust. In most cases, the depth of occurrence ranges from several hundred meters to a couple of kilometers. It is worth noting that gas can form at high temperatures and pressures. In this case, there is no access of oxygen to the place. To date, gas production has been implemented in several ways, each of which we will consider in this article. But let's talk about everything in order.

General information

It must be understood that natural gas is approximately 98% methane. In addition, it may include ethane, propane, butane, etc. There is also the term "unconventional gas". It refers to natural gas, which is mainly produced from clayey rocks. It lies deep underground in coal seams, sandstones and other geofences, under extremely high pressure. To date, the share of unconventional gas is somewhat less than half, and by 2030 it is planned to increase this figure to 56%. At present, almost all gas producing countries have drilling rigs. But most of them, about 40%, belong to the United States. After all, it is this state that sells a huge amount of gas every year. Let's talk in more detail on this topic and deal with the questions that interest us.

Gas production in the world

For many hundreds of years, people have sought to improve the ways that, in principle, is quite normal. Human needs are growing every day, and there is a need for new mining technologies. Today, such as natural gas, is produced all over the world from oil and gas fields, and it can also be found in a dissolved state in oil or water. If we talk specifically about Russia, then in our country it is mined from the bowels of the planet Earth. It is noteworthy that the gas in its pure form has neither color nor smell. In order to determine the gas leak as quickly as possible, odorants are added to it, which have a sharp unpleasant odor. This approach allows to reduce mortality among the population as a result of gas leakage. Of course, gas production in the world implies the use of safe equipment, since any open fire can lead to a large number of victims at the well site.

Gas hydrate deposits

Not so long ago, it was determined that gas can be underground in a solid state. If earlier scientists knew only about the liquid and gaseous state, today it is known about solid deposits, which are also of great importance for industry. Every day more and more people are talking about the fact that there are large accumulations of greenhouse gases at the bottom of the ocean, which are there in the form of hydrates. Hydrates have not yet found wide application, but are already used for water desalination, in addition, it is planned to use such deposits for gas storage. In fact, gas production areas may expand somewhat, since where there are hydrates, there may be other deposits of minerals. Well, now let's go ahead and look at something else interesting.

Natural gas deposits

There is evidence that indicates that there are simply huge deposits of natural gas in the sedimentary shell of the earth's crust. There is a biogenic theory that says that gas, like oil itself, is formed as a result of long-term decomposition of living organisms under the influence of high temperatures and pressure. In addition, the temperature regime is usually somewhat higher, just like the pressure, than in oil deposits. This is due to the fact that gas is located below oil. To date, Russia has the largest deposits. By and large, the reserves of this natural resource can last for many years. Gas production in Russia is established in almost all places. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, the total volumes are estimated at 48.8 trillion m 3 .

Natural gas reserves by country

At present, we can say that, according to official data, 101 countries have reserves of this mineral on their territory. Benin is in last place - 0.0011 trillion m 3 , and Russia is in first place - 47.800 trillion m 3 . But these are figures given by the CIA, so in reality the data may vary slightly. Another country with inexhaustible reserves is Iran. In addition, the Gulf countries, such as the US and Canada, also boast rich natural gas deposits. If you list the countries of Europe, then Norway and the Netherlands will be in the first places. It is also noteworthy that the countries that were once part of the USSR, such as Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, also have a lot of natural gas. As noted above, gas hydrates were discovered in the second half of the 20th century. Today it is known that their deposits are simply huge. Moreover, there are reserves both at great depths and under the ocean floor.

Gas production methods

Currently, deposits are located at a depth of 1-3 kilometers. One of them is located near the city of Novy Urengoy, it goes underground for 6 kilometers. In the depths, it is in pores under high pressure. Gradually, it passes into pores with less pressure and so on until it enters directly into the well.

The main method of extraction is drilling wells. Usually there are several wells on the territory of the field. Moreover, they are trying to drill them evenly so that they are approximately equally distributed over several wells. If there is only one well, then it is likely that it will be flooded prematurely. To date, there are practically no other methods of gas production. By and large, this is due to the fact that it is not advisable to come up with something new, especially if the technology becomes more complicated. It is unlikely that in the near future something will replace the wells.

Gas preparation for transportation

After a natural resource has arrived through a well from the bowels of the earth, it must be delivered to the user. This may be a chemical plant, thermal power plant and other gas networks. Its preparation for transportation is due to the fact that, in addition to the necessary components, there are other impurities in the composition that make it difficult to further use and move along highways. It is necessary to remove water vapor, which can accumulate in the lines and make it difficult to move. It is also necessary to remove hydrogen sulfide, which poses a serious threat to gas equipment (causes corrosion). Various schemes can be used for preparation. The most appropriate is the one in which the treatment plant is located in the immediate vicinity of the deposit. This is where drying and cleaning takes place. In the case of a high content of hydrogen sulfide or helium, the fossil is sent to a gas processing plant. In principle, gas production in Russia is usually realized through plants, since the quality of the initial product is not always up to the mark.

Gas transportation

Currently, the main mode of transport is the pipeline. The pipe diameter can reach 1.4 meters, and the pressure in the system is 75 atmospheres. However, in the course of moving along the line, pressure is lost, and the product heats up. For this simple reason, compressor stations are built at regular intervals. There, the gas pressure is increased to 55-120 atm and cooled. Despite the fact that laying a gas main is very expensive, today it is the most expedient method of supplying a natural resource over medium and short distances. In some cases, gas carriers are used, they are also very often called tankers. The gas is in special containers in a liquefied state. The temperature during transportation should be in the range of 150-160 degrees Celsius. This method has a significant advantage, such as security

Conclusion

This article briefly reviewed the technology of gas production. In principle, the borehole method is the most popular. Other methods, if implemented, have not found application for various reasons. As for the scope of gas, in the first place it is fuel. As a fuel, it is used for heating residential premises, as well as heating water, cooking, etc. Due to high electricity prices, this is one of the cheapest ways of heating. Gas is also used as a fuel for vehicles, thermal power plants, and boiler houses. It is used to produce plastics and other organic substances. Well, that's all on this topic. Be aware that improper handling of gas can be fatal.

The article presents current and official data for 2016, based on the statistical information provided by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Modern conditions of human life cannot be imagined without the presence of natural gas as a fuel. Ecological cleanliness, good thermal conductivity, easy transportability, relatively low price and other positive properties make it indispensable in many areas of human life, industry and the electric power industry.

In fact, the horizon is not so peaceful for the United States. And, as always, when it comes to energy, the economic fundamentals are just as important as the political strategies of the producing countries. When in late November the producing countries gathered in the Custody, notably Saudi Arabia, decided to keep production levels unchanged, everyone thought about hitting the United States.

Oil and gas are the backbone of the Russian economy and provide more than half of the government revenue available each year under the chairmanship of Vladimir Putin. Foreign operators, fearing the consequences that free falling oil could have on the Russian economy, began to reduce their impact on the country: there was an outflow of capital. The defense of the exchange came at a huge cost in terms of national reserves of foreign gold and foreign exchange.

World leaders in natural gas production in the world

The main consumers are geographically located outside the districts. This is due to the geography of the distribution of industry and the electric power industry, as well as the population density in a particular region.

Since the 1970s, the largest volumes of consumption have been in three regions of the globe: North America, Foreign Europe and the CIS countries. Of these regions, only the United States of America and Canada can fully supply themselves with the necessary reserve of the fuel resource. In other regions, large consumption is not at the expense of their own resources - exports from producing countries prevail.

In all this, Europe cannot do more than look at it. Russia is Italy's first gas exporter with a 38% share. However, given the deterioration of relations with Europe, the situation will soon change. Like the United States, Moscow also points to Asia. And in December, he signed twenty trade agreements with India in the energy sector. In addition, Moscow reached an agreement with the Ankara government to increase gas supplies to Turkey by 3 billion cubic meters. M by strengthening the Blue Stream gas pipeline.

Producing countries in the Middle East and North Africa have always played a key role in meeting the demand of consumer countries, especially Asian and European consumers. And, according to the International Energy Agency, it will continue to be of decisive importance: the largest oil and gas reserves are concentrated here, and production costs remain especially low. However, even in this case, the geopolitical setting can change quickly. The Islamic State then occupied large parts of Iraq and Western Syria, restricting crude oil supplies and capturing some of the products on the black market.

The diagram shows the main areas of gas production in the world, individual countries are taken as the area. In total, all indicators are taken as 100%, not counting the rest of the territories, which account for a small amount of development. The unit of measure in the chart is billion cubic meters.

Finally, in some countries, a growing share of production may support domestic consumption at the expense of European buyers. Despite the complexity of the political framework, after the deterioration of relations with Russia, Europe and Italy, they are becoming more and more interested in North Africa. "The energy issue will be more North-South oriented, and this confirms the importance of the relationship between the European Union and Africa, as well as between Italy and Algeria," said Council President Matteo Renzi.

In this context, it increases coal consumption. Despite environmental agreements and proclamations, consumption of this fossil fuel is expected to increase globally. In the future, demand for coal may be driven by the development of gasification for the production of syngas and hydrocarbons, especially in China.

In terms of natural gas production, more than 25% of the world belongs to the United States, which occupy a leading position. The second place is occupied by Russia, which accounts for about 20 percent of the total production of the ten leading regions.

The position of countries in the list of leaders in gas production does not at all mean the leadership of these states in the world fuel trade, that is, exports to other regions of the world. For 2016, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries compiled a rating of states that are export-oriented, of which eight are the leading ones.

Reason for nothing, that is, the announcement of the declared death. In a completely unprecedented comparison between voices opposed to extractive activities produced and amplified by the media, and nothing opposed to it. Almost the question was of local importance, and it did not concern the whole country, its economy, its industry, its growth.

Last but not least, his energy security, a term so overused he considers irrelevant to facts and politics. That's why you can talk about a chronicle of declared death with a seemingly desirable outcome, where everything seems to be playing the hope that a quorum has been reached or not. How to bet on the highest card. If this is achieved, it is almost certainly a trivum victory. For the simple reason that the media, from the mainstream press to public television, disinformation has so far prevailed, arguing for the arguments of opponents without saying anything about others.

About 1,200 billion cubic meters of gas are concentrated in the twenty largest gas fields. The geography of areas that are rich in this natural resource is confined to the territories of the following states of the world:

  1. Russia. 9 of the 20 largest fuel deposits are located on the lands of the Russian Federation. Most of them were opened in the 60-80s of the last century. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, three new large deposits were discovered in Russia, which entered the TOP-20: West Kamchatskoye, Leningradskoye and Rusanovskoye (read also -).
  2. USA. There are 4 largest deposits in the sub-region, which were discovered in the mid-1960s, and began to be intensively used at the end of the 20th century.
  3. Qatar and Iran. There are two rich places here, one of which simultaneously occupies the state lands of Qatar and Iran.
  4. Turkmenistan. Just one rich place that is among the leaders in terms of gas reserves.
  5. China. One large deposit, which was discovered in 2008 and ranked tenth in the TOP-20 states in terms of resource reserves ().
  6. Algeria. The last three lines in the ranking are occupied by regions of Algeria. Hassi Mel is the oldest in the country, discovered back in 1957, but to this day, and the largest in terms of its reserves in Algeria. Two others were opened in 2004 and 2006.

The first place in the list of the largest deposits is occupied by North or South Pars, which is located within two countries at once - Qatar and Iran, as well as in the water area of the Persian oil and gas basin and the Gulf. It was discovered in 1991 and currently its reserves exceed 270 billion cubic meters. The Persian Gulf is a global giant not only in terms of the presence of deposits, but also in terms of production in the Asian oil and gas region.

There is no reason why any citizen of common sense can stand up for the activities proclaimed every day - causing irreparable damage to health, nature, territory, fisheries, tourism and agriculture. Without this - proclaims every day - there is no benefit for the people or the whole country, because, according to the assertion, only the famous multinational oil will win. It doesn't matter that it's all just propaganda, and the fact that there's no rush that proves that oil or methane extraction is detrimental to tourism, fishing, agriculture.

After the opening in 2006 of a new place Galkynysh in Turkmenistan, it took second place in the list of world leaders. It owns 210 billion cubic meters of the resource, the deposits of which are located within the Murghab oil and gas basin.

The third place belongs to the Russian Federation, namely the Urengoy region, confined to the West Siberian oil and gas basin. It was discovered in 1996, in 2016 its reserves amount to 10.2 trillion cubic meters.

As it would be, but it would be more difficult to study the foreign experience of cooperation between the oil industry and French farms, British universities, Norwegian fishermen. But that doesn't mean anything. In addition to opposing each other among the thousands of mysticisms that are spreading: oil production is anti-historical as it is now the cornerstone of the world's energy supply and penalizes new renewable resources, while it should be known that the former is used almost exclusively in transportation and the latter is in power generation.

The main areas of gas production in the world

Below is a map that reflects the geography of distribution of the largest gas fields throughout the globe. The main deposits of blue fuel are concentrated within the leading countries in terms of annual.

The same can be said about the risks of irresponsible environmental disasters, extracting the case of Macondo in the Gulf of Mexico on our shores. On the other hand, nothing is said about the main issue: preventing the use of domestic oil or methane, preferring to import it, perhaps from Libya, by funding militias in the war; means spending billions of euros abroad rather than allocating them for domestic growth; means helping other businesses at the expense of ours. Because fear, like slander, weighs more than any assurance or denial.

The largest mineral reserves are located within the following deposits on the planet:

  • Gulf of Mexico and Alaska in the United States of America;
  • in the Russian Federation, the southern and northern regions of Western Siberia, the territories of the Far East and Sakhalin, the shelves of two seas - the Barents and Kara;
  • deposits located within Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia of the Persian Gulf;
  • the southern regions of Turkmenistan, whose minerals are exported to three countries - Poland, Ukraine and Hungary;
  • Algeria and Nigeria are the only sub-regions in Africa with natural gas deposits. The fuel here is of high quality, in which there is no high content of harmful impurities and slags;
  • in the North Sea of Norway. The volumes of natural gas deposits are considered the largest in Europe;
  • on the lands of Canada there are several largest areas within the island of Newfoundland of the northern provinces, including the shelf of the Western Canadian Basin;
  • in China, the main areas of gas production are concentrated in the Tari Basin

OPEC statistics indicate that with the growing consumption of blue fuel on the planet, the remaining reserves will only last for the next 65 years. In all state deposits, there are no more than 180 trillion cubic meters of combustible matter. More than 120 trillion - fuel reserves that have not yet been explored, since they lie at a very great depth in the earth's crust and are practically not available for global production.

Better think about the following: what will happen if the referendum passes. First: there would be a full political and instrumental reading of the referendum answer, no matter what questions were put before the voters. Secondly, because victory without triv will have the same consequences as nuclear energy: the destruction of an entire industry - electromechanical, in which tens of tens of thousands of employees, a large number of engineers, excellent production skills, scientific and academic knowledge are among the first in the world.

Everything is destroyed: factories, enterprises, schools, professionalism. With a no-triva victory, we would have had the same result: the destruction of another Italian industry, not so much the mining industry, which would have no difficulty in moving its investments abroad, but that which produces goods and services for it. An industry that dates back to the unity of Italy, which is divided into hundreds of companies gathered in oil service areas, especially in Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo, which boasts a highly regarded technological specialization, with the exception of Italy.

We present to your attention a list of countries producing and exporting natural gas in large quantities.
10. Algiers. Gas reserves: 4.5 trillion cubic meters

Algeria ranks 10th in world gas production. The amount of gas in this North African country is 2.5% of the world's reserves. And half of this number is mined at the Hassi R'Mey field, located in the southeast of the country. Gas companies such as Total and Shell have been operating in the country for decades. Gas production is carried out by three plants with 15 production lines. Two of them are located in the city of Arzev and one in the city of Skikda.

Yes, the referendum will end its final end. This is a real game at stake: although they are more likely to ignore the general indifference and irresponsibility of those who should look at the interests of the country than their electoral dividends. America's energy independence has flipped the geopolitical balance of the world and pushed oil prices down, driving up supply, eclipsing demand during the dark recession years.

The Shale Gas Revolution The miracle of the stars and stripes is the result of a "revolutionary revolution" at least twenty years ago and realized through the massive use of fracture or hydraulic fracturing techniques. It was Texas engineer George Mitchell who, in the late 1980s, managed to make economically possible production of "shale gas", natural gas trapped in the microporosity of tight shale formations, by combining two methods: horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, which later proved to be effective and in unconventional oil production from fields.

9. Nigeria. Gas reserves: 5.1 trillion cubic meters

This country ranks first in gas production on the African continent. Also, it is a member of OPEC. And this despite the fact that Nigeria has a high level of corruption, political instability, a weak economy and a poorly developed infrastructure. Nigeria is a country very dependent on gas, because the profit from its exports is 95% of income in foreign currency. In 2010, Nigeria became a leader in the export of liquefied natural gas. After all, the volume of this exported natural resource is 21.9 million tons.

This process can be carried out either by using existing wells, or by expanding their length, or by creating new ones, but the huge potential goes hand in hand with costs far exceeding conventional mining. Ecological problem. From water used in significant quantities even in where there is always a scarce resource, such as Texas, where aquifers are already at risk of depletion. Another problem is pollution: when it starts producing oil and gas, it also rises to the surface with polluted waters of natural chemicals in the soil or is added.

8. Venezuela. Gas reserves: 5.6 trillion cubic meters

The country's gas reserves account for 2.9% of the world's. But most of them are gas associated with oil. Most of the deposits are located in Norte De Pario (an area north of Trinidad and Tobago). But the gas sector in Venezuela is not very developed, which holds back its development. The main gas pipelines are owned by PDVSA GAS.

Not only is there a risk of poisoning the aquifers that serve the inhabitants of the affected area if they are too close to the wells. So much so that in Pennsylvania it is no longer possible to look for gas and oil under state forests - two-thirds are located above the Marseille shale - they are not even buried from neighboring private lands, as in the golden age. Bad vibrations All environmental pollution and health risks are reported as the main frequency of earthquakes in fissure regions. All of this is affecting industries, forcing them to invest more in plant safety and gradually shrinking coverage.

7. UAE. Gas reserves: 6.1 trillion cubic meters

Most of the country's gas reserves are located in its capital, Dubai. Oil fields are located there, there is a gas reserve "Khuff". In 1977, the first LPG plant was built in the UAE by ADGAS. It is currently processing natural gas from all oil fields in the country.

With the price of oil below the psychological threshold of $30, oil production is no longer convenient. Weak traders have left the market or joined big companies, joining capital and above all technology to compete with big companies and try to lower production costs. The supply does not drop because the efficiency of production processes has increased compared to the past due to the drilling site, for example, which allows one number of wells to be drilled from one location.

Or "rephrasing", i.e. hydraulically "re-fracturing" well cracked wells - an operation that allows a 100% increase in production at a very low cost. Not to mention that "unconventional" wells are immune from the "temporary" factor: they do not need years to reach peak production and can be launched in a few weeks or, if necessary, stop waiting for better prices.

6. Saudi Arabia. Gas reserves: 8.2 trillion cubic meters

All oil and gas fields are owned by the only state-owned company in the country - Saudi Aramco. It has a monopoly in this area. In total, Saudi Arabia has more than 70 deposits located in 8 regions of the country. Currently, there is an accelerated pace of gas production. This is due to the diversification of the economy. The country, which is one of the leaders in the extraction of this natural resource, plans to increase gas to the world market. As for the mixed oil and gas fields found at the end of the 20th century, they are located in the oil fields of Kirkuk. Clean deposits, which make up 1/5 of all the country's reserves, are located in the Gavar oil field.

5. USA. Gas reserves: 9.8 trillion cubic meters

List of countries by gas production in the world: 10 largest leaders

Natural gas, which is the cleanest type of fossil fuel, is widely used as a fuel in residential buildings for heating, water heating and cooking, as well as a fuel for cars, boilers and thermal power plants. The leading positions in gas production are occupied by Russia and the United States, while they have repeatedly changed places, alternately returning leadership. Gas, located in microscopic voids, is extracted from the bowels of the earth using wells. Under normal conditions (101.325 kPa and 0 C), natural gas is only in a gaseous state, but it can also be in a crystalline state.

Our list of countries by gas production in the world is based on the annual statistical bulletin of OPEC. British Petroleum also publishes the annual Statistical Review of World Energy. At the same time, despite the discrepancies in the data of the received gas (for example, according to OPEC, the United States produced 751.063 billion cubic meters in 2017, according to British Petroleum 749.2), the first 9 leading countries coincide. The situation is more complicated with the 10th place: the first claim that this is Turkmenistan with 81.765 billion cubic meters / year, the second call Australia with 91.2 billion cubic meters / year.

1. USA (751 bcm/year)

The bowels of North America, in which this country is located, have large reserves of natural gas and oil. As of 2013, there were 383 natural gas wells operating in the United States, 38 oil and gas basins are located on their territory, and 14 more promise to become them. The vast natural gas reserves of the United States are estimated at 10.44 trillion cubic meters, which is 5.2% of the world's total reserves. The Americans have especially advanced in the production of shale gas, here we mean such large deposits as Point Thomson and Marcellus in Alaska and Haynesville.

5% of gas is produced on the North American continental shelf (in that part of it that is under US jurisdiction). The main gas producers in the US are Exxon Mobil and BP, they are among the top ten similar companies in the world.

Leading countries in gas production

It is impossible to overestimate the role of natural gas, which is in great demand and is declining catastrophically, given the global consumption volumes, it is impossible. The United States and Russia have become the leaders in gas production in the world, constantly competing for superiority and having hundreds of deposits of this wealth on their territories.

The annual production of shale gas by these two countries is 40% of the world's volumes. The United States has practically abandoned imported gas and is actively developing its territories by converting part of the gas production facilities for export purposes.

The instability of the world gas market, an increase in its exports to other countries and, as a result, a decrease in prices, forces Russia to cancel long-term gas supply contracts, constantly make concessions in prices to importing countries and develop new fields with less intensity.

The extraction of this raw material, although at a slower pace, is carried out on the territory of Qatar, Iran, SAO, Algeria and other countries.

The tendency to increase gas production, which began in the middle of the 20th century, has increased tenfold in our time. This is due to the increase in aviation, road, sea transport, the development of the chemical industry, which has increased tenfold in demand for electrical energy resources. The possibility in the near future to transfer a number of vehicles (including most of the cars) to a relatively inexpensive gas fuel has increased its world production several times over the past eight years, and has occupied the minds of scientists with the discovery of new deposits, accumulation forms and methods of gas production.

Data on gas production of conglomerate states vary. Each country maintains its own statistics, which are summarized for the year and published in print media. According to the reports of statistical agencies, over the past few years, the United States has quadrupled gas production in shale deposits, overtaking Russia, and is not going to slow down.

Only data on gas sold and actually consumed in the country can be recorded, the costs and utilization factor associated with production (losses during gas emissions into the atmosphere, combustion during production, etc.) are not taken into account. The utilization factor is the greater, the greater the degree of development of the gas industry.

By 2030, shale gas reserves (for which the standard deep well drilling method is used) will be at a critical limit in many countries. According to scientists, the world's reserves of this fuel are decreasing exponentially every year, and the rate of production predicts the depletion of the resource in 50-70 years. The issue of extraction of hydrated and mine methane gas becomes topical. Both varieties are currently only beginning to enter the field of study. Their production is associated with the construction of new drilling rigs and the development of new methods for gas purification from impurities.

Gas is the safest fuel in terms of environmental impact. When it is burned, a smaller amount of harmful volatile compounds is formed than from the combustion of other types of fuel. The main danger threatening humanity with an increase in gas production is a decrease in the species abundance of animals due to deforestation in the territories of gas fields, as well as erosion processes occurring under the influence of drilling.

    1. USA - the volume of production has grown over the past three years by 4 times and tends to increase. Due to this, they stopped almost completely importing gas into their territories. Main deposit:
  • Gulf Coast Basin Mining is carried out in the rocky mountain regions of eastern Texas and southern Arkansas. The depth of the gas is more than 3 kilometers.
  • Russia - the main deposits are located in Western Siberia and the Far East, they are unique in size, often associated with oil fields (gas is a by-product of oil production). Leaders among deposits:
    • Urengoy field - Western Siberia - the third largest in the world - reserves - 4.5 trillion. cube m., more than a thousand wells. Today, it is possible to extract gas only from very deep layers of sediments.
    • Markovskoye field - Eastern Siberia - 2.4 trillion. cube m.
    • Bovanenskoye field - Yamal Peninsula - 3.2 trillion. cube m., despite the recent development period, and a small volume of production, is considered very promising.
    • Ust-Vilyuiskoye deposits - Far East - 1.5 trillion. cube m.

Russia is the main gas exporting state in the world, and it has advantages over other producers due to two ways of supplying raw materials: by sea (gas is transported in liquid form) and through a gas pipeline.

    Gulf countries

Development is carried out on the territory of the Persian Gulf, which is divided by a tectonic fault into 2 parts. Both deposits are of different age of origin and are isolated from each other.

      1. Iran - South Pars - the northern part of the Gulf.
      2. Qatar - North Pars - the southern part of the Gulf.
      3. SAO - Gavar - the eastern part of the Persian Gulf. The depth of occurrence depends on the rock of the gas-bearing layer and ranges from 1 to 3 km.

Raw materials are exported in large quantities to most European countries.

    1. Canada - the main reserves are located in the northern province of Newfoundland, capture part of the Appalachian mountains - several gas fields. Most of the produced gas is exported to the United States.
    • Rainbow Lake is the southern part of the Canadian state.
  • PRC - the largest field is being developed in the southwestern part of China, in the Sichuan depression, which is located in a mountainous area. 50% of the extracted fuel is used to meet their needs
    • – Dazhou is one of the administrative centers in Sichuan province. Active importer of fuel - about 25 billion. cube m per year.
  • Norway - ranks second among European countries in the production of blue fuel - the Norwegian region of the North Sea is being developed at a fast pace.
    • - Troll West - the occurrence of fossil raw materials occurs at a depth of 400 meters, from at least three sources.
  • Algeria - one of the five largest exporters in the world, gas fields are separated from oil fields. The gas is clean in chemical composition (includes a minimum amount of impurities).
    • -Hassi-Rmel - location - north of Algeria.
  • Turkmenistan - has giant deposits. Actively exports gas fuel to Europe.
    • Galkynysh - location - southeast of Turkmenistan, includes three large deposits.

Leading countries in oil and gas production. Leading countries in gas production

“The energy issue will be more North-South oriented, and this confirms the importance of the relationship between the European Union and Africa, as well as between Italy and Algeria,” said Council President Matteo Renzi.

Last but not least, its energy security, a term that is so misunderstood.

Gas production areas in the world

    Gas
    industry has developed in
the second half of the XX century. In the structure of the world
    fuel consumption gas ranks 3rd
after coal oil – 20%. Gas is the cleanest
    environmentally friendly energy resource.

    By
explored reserves of natural gas (their
volume is growing all the time) stand out especially
CIS and Southwest Asia, from selected countries -
    Russia and Iran.

World gas production is constantly growing, in 1990
    year it exceeded 2.5 trillion. m 3.
In the "top ten" gas producing countries
    world includes Russia, USA, Canada,
    Turkmenistan, Netherlands, UK,
    Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Algeria, Saudi
    Arabia. About 15% is exported
produced gas, the main exporters are
CIS countries, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway,
    Algeria, Indonesia.

The main flows of gas exports are directed to
countries of Western Europe, Japan, USA.

    Dynamics of actual gas production
    characterize only those volumes that
enter the main gas pipelines. it
    so-called commercial production, which
    differs from gross production by
    various losses (associated gas, gas,
    used for injection into oil-bearing
layer burned in flares or released into
air and other losses). In a number of countries in
indicator of gas production, except natural,
include associated petroleum gas, therefore, in
in particular, in Russia, gas production indicators,
    published by the domestic
statistics do not match the data
    international statistics.

The ratio of commercial production to gross,
characterizing the degree of losses during production,
    called the utilization factor.
    In industrialized countries this
increased from 68% in the 1950s to 86% in
    90s, while in the developing
countries, it generally does not exceed 45%.
Efficiency of natural gas production in
    different regions are significantly different,
which indicates a gap in the levels
    technologies used. In Western Europe,
    e.g. utilization factor
    is 89%, in North America - 80%,
    Latin America - 66%, Africa - 38%.

    First
place in the extraction of natural gas is occupied by
United States of America (about 20%
gas produced in the world), followed by
    Russia follows some distance (17.6%).
However, due to the depletion of reserves
natural gas in the United States, its production has
    downward trend. Significant Level
gas production is maintained in Canada, Iran,
Norway, however, their total share in
global gas production does not exceed 14%.

    Export-import operations with natural
gas is carried out in two ways: according to
main gas pipelines (75%) and with
    use of maritime transport in
    liquefied form (25%).

    Separate
areas of export and import of liquefied
natural gas (LNG) are closely related to each other
    another and form international
    gas transmission systems, each of
    which includes all
    production chain - from mining
    natural gas before delivery
consumer. The world economy has developed
two main gas transportation systems −
    Asia-Pacific system and
    African-Western European system.

Leading countries in gas production / News

Natural gas is a mineral that brings enormous income to its state. To date, quite a lot of countries are engaged in its production, but it is worth highlighting 10 countries - the gas empires of the world.

In the modern market for gas production, the Russian part is more than 18%, and such indicators put it in first place. The main source is the Urengoy deposit of natural resources. Today it is the third largest in the world, gas production is carried out by a subsidiary of Gazprom, Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy.

The second place today in gas production is occupied by Iran, its share in the world market is about 16%. The main gas fields are located in the Persian Gulf and in the north-east of the country.

Third place in terms of natural gas reserves can be given to Qatar. The state also ranks 6th in the ranking of gas exports in the world. Located in the Persian Gulf.

Saudi Arabia today is the main regulator of oil prices in the world. The Kingdom ranks 4th in terms of natural gas reserves on Earth.

Fifth place can be safely given to Turkmenistan. In addition, the second largest natural gas field is located on the territory of the state. The main buyers of natural resources from Turkmenistan are Hungary, Poland and Ukraine. Thanks to such large reserves of natural gas, the state has become a very important exporter in the modern world.

The United Arab Emirates occupies an honorable sixth place in terms of natural gas reserves. The main place of occurrence of natural gas is located on the territory of the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The main part of gas production, about 90%, is controlled by the national company Abu Dhabi

Nigeria ranks seventh in the world in terms of natural gas exports in the world. At the same time, the country ranks first in Africa in terms of natural gas reserves.

Venezuela occupies the 8th place in the world ranking in terms of reserves of "blue fuel". The country, together with companies from Russia (Rosneft, Surgutneftegaz, Lukoil, Gazprom), China (CNOOC Ltd), Algeria (Sonatrach) and Malaysia (Petronasi), is developing new offshore gas fields.

As for Algeria, it ranks ninth in terms of gas reserves, and fifth in terms of commercial gas production in the world. This is the second largest in Africa after Nigeria. The largest location of natural gas is Hassi-Rmel. Almost all gas, about 85%, is free gas in gas fields and gas caps of oil deposits. The rest is dissolved in oil. The largest locality in this form is Hassi Messaoud. All production and sale of natural gas in the country is controlled by the state company Sonatrach. More than 50% of gross production is provided by the Hassi-Rmel field. In 2011, experts from the British company Heritage Oil Plc discovered one of the largest natural gas fields in Iraqi Kurdistan in the last 30 years.

The use of gas in the world today is largely associated with energy, namely electricity and heat. Almost 20% of the world's electricity is generated using gas in the world. The main structure of gas use:

    • industry - 35.1%;
    • transport - 5.9%
    • energy carrier - 48.2%
    • for power generation - 10.8%

On average, about 25% of the natural gas produced in the country is exported. The rest of the extracted natural resource is used domestically.

Leading countries in gas production ~ News in the world

The recent lifting of sanctions on Iran will create another major seller in the gas market. But even without this country, there are enough states that extract and export natural resources in huge quantities. Let's remember which countries are leaders in gas production? In today's world politics, this information is more relevant than ever.

AlgeriaGas reserves: 4.5 trillion cubic meters

Algeria ranks 10th in world gas production. The amount of gas in this North African country is 2.5% of the world's reserves. And half of this number is mined at the Hassi R'Mey field, located in the southeast of the country. Gas companies such as Total and Shell have been operating in the country for decades.

Gas production is carried out by three plants with 15 production lines. Two of them are located in the city of Arzev and one in the city of Skikda.

NigeriaGas reserves: 5.1 trillion cubic meters

This country ranks first in gas production on the African continent. Also, it is a member of OPEC. And this despite the fact that Nigeria has a high level of corruption, political instability, a weak economy and a poorly developed infrastructure. Nigeria is a country very dependent on gas, because the profit from its exports is 95% of income in foreign currency. In 2010, Nigeria became a leader in the export of liquefied natural gas. After all, the volume of this exported natural resource is 21.9 million tons.

VenezuelaGas reserves: 5.6 trillion cubic meters

The gas reserves of this country, which occupies the 8th place in the list of leaders in the extraction of minerals, make up 2.9% of the world. But most of them are gas associated with oil. Most of the deposits are located in Norte De Pario (an area north of Trinidad and Tobago). But the gas sector in Venezuela is not very developed, which holds back its development. The main gas pipelines are owned by PDVSA GAS.

UAEGas reserves: 6.1 trillion cubic meters

Most of the country's gas reserves are located in its capital, Dubai. Oil fields are located there, there is a gas reserve "Khuff". In 1977, the first LPG plant was built in the UAE by ADGAS. Currently, he is engaged in the processing of natural gas from all oil fields of the country, which occupies the 7th place in the list of leaders in the extraction of this mineral.

Saudi ArabiaGas reserves: 8.2 trillion cubic meters

USAGas reserves: 9.8 trillion cubic meters

More than half of the country's gas reserves are located in just four states: Texas, Colorado, Wyoming and Oklahoma. Also, about 5% of the mineral is taken from the continental shelf, which is under the jurisdiction of the US government. The main gas producing companies of the country, which occupies the middle of the top leaders in gas production, are: BP, ExxonMobil.

TurkmenistanGas reserves: 17.5 trillion cubic meters

Natural gas is an integral part of the economy of Turkmenistan, which is one of the leaders in the extraction of this mineral. After all, most of the country's reserves are spent on its export. All gas is produced in one field - Galkynysh. According to experts, it contains more than 25 trillion cubic meters.

A few years ago, the plans included a project to build the Nabucco pipe. But he died through the fault of the government of the country. And he had high hopes.

QatarGas reserves: 24.5 trillion cubic meters

All LPG plants are located in the same city of Qatar - Ras Laffan. The first plant was built in 1996, and gas supplies began a year later. Almost 85% of the total gas produced is supplied to the European, Asian and North American markets. This became possible due to the favorable geographical position of the country, which took bronze in the rating of states that are leaders in gas production.

RussiaGas reserves: 32.6 trillion cubic meters

Gas export is the most important part of the Russian economy - the leader in production in this area. The natural resource is mined in Western Siberia (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug), in the Urals, in the Lower Volga region and in the North Caucasus. Gas reserves account for more than 60% of all Russian resources.

The natural resource is transported through the Unified Gas Supply System and gas pipeline network, more than 140 thousand km long.

The gas producer is the Gazprom monopoly, which provides 95% of the natural resource from all production in the country.

IranGas reserves: 34 trillion cubic meters

All fields are located in the north of the country, which ranks first in gas production in the world, and on the shelf near the Persian Gulf. Foreign (French, Chinese, Belarusian) investors, who came to the country in the late 90s, work on the extraction of natural resources. True, they stopped their activities for a time when sanctions were imposed against Iran, but it seems that now they can return to the market again.

The country's authorities plan to increase gas production to 1 billion cubic meters per day by 2017. All reserves of Iran are 18% of the world.
