Reason and feelings in the work of asya. Mind and feelings

Very touching, lyrical and beautiful from the point of view of literary art, the story "Asya" was written in 1857 by Ivan Turgenev. Millions of readers were literally captivated by this work - people read, reread and read Asya, it was translated into many foreign languages, and critics did not hide their delight. Turgenev wrote an attractive and unpretentious love story, but how beautiful and unforgettable it turned out! Now we will make a short analysis of the story "Asya" by Ivan Turgenev, and in addition, you can read the summary on our website. In the same article, the plot of "Ashi" will be presented very briefly.

Writing history and prototypes

The story was published when Turgenev was almost forty years old. It is known that the author was not only well educated, but also had a rare talent. Once Ivan Turgenev went on a trip to Germany, and fleetingly saw the following picture: two women looked out of the windows from a two-story house - one was an elderly and orderly lady, and she looked from the first floor, and the second was a young girl, and looked out she is on top. The writer thought - who are these women, why do they live in the same house, what brought them together? Reflections on this glimpsed picture prompted Turgenev to write the lyrical story "Asya", the analysis of which we are now conducting.

Let's discuss who could become the prototype of the main character. Turgenev, as you know, had a daughter, Pauline Brewer, who was born illegitimate. She is very reminiscent of the timid and sensual main character Asya. At the same time, the writer had a sister, so it is quite possible that Turgenev could also consider Varvara Zhitova as Asya's prototype. Both that and the other girl could not come to terms with their dubious position in society, which worried Asya herself.

The plot of the story "Asya" is very short

A short retelling of the plot will help to better understand the analysis of the story "Asya" by Turgenev. The story is told by the main character. We see the anonymous Mr. N.N., who traveled abroad and met his compatriots there. Young people made acquaintances and even became friends. So, N. N. meets the Gagins. This is a brother and his half-sister Asya, who also went on a trip to Europe.

Gagin and N.N. like each other, they have a lot in common, so they communicate, relax together and have fun. In the end, N.N. falls in love with Asya, and the main character experiences reciprocal feelings. They declare their love, but misunderstandings in the relationship lead to mixed feelings and awkward conversation. Asya and Gagin abruptly leave, leaving a note, at the very moment when N.N. decided to ask for her hand. He rushes about in search of the Gagins, looking for them everywhere, but does not find them. And the feelings that he had for Asya will never be repeated again in his life.

Be sure to read Gagin's characterization, and it is important that we reviewed the plot of the story "Asya" very briefly, because this makes it easier to analyze further.

Image of Asya

Asya seems to us a special and unusual girl. She reads a lot, draws beautifully and takes what is happening close to her heart. She has a heightened sense of justice, but as far as character is concerned, she is changeable and even somewhat extravagant. At times, she is drawn to reckless and desperate acts, as can be seen from her decision to leave her relationship with N.N., with whom she fell deeply in love.

However, an analysis of the story "Asya" shows that the girl's soul is easy to hurt, she is very impressionable, kind and affectionate. Of course, such a nature attracted Mr. N.N., who began to spend a lot of time with his new friends. He is looking for the reasons for her actions and sometimes is perplexed: to condemn him Asya or to admire her.

Important details of the analysis of the story "Asya"

When Asya begins to communicate with the main character N.N., unintelligible and previously unknown feelings awaken in her soul. The girl is still very young and inexperienced, and does not know how to cope with her emotions. She is afraid of this state, this explains her strange and changeable actions, which can hardly be called ordinary whims. She wants to evoke sympathy from N.N., to be attractive and charming in his eyes, and in the end she opens up to both him and Gagin.

Yes, this is a childish and naive act, but here she is - a sweet, kind girl Asya. Unfortunately, neither Gagin nor N.N. appreciate Asya's frank and temperamental behavior. She seems reckless to her brother, and the protagonist reflects on her temper, thinking that it is crazy to marry a girl of seventeen with such a character. In addition, he found out that Asya was illegitimate, and yet such a wedding would cause misunderstanding in secular circles! Even a short analysis of the story "Asya" showed that this ruined their relationship, and when N.N. changed his mind, it was already too late.

Of course, we have something to think about: could Gagin reason with his sister, whom he loved so much, and whose whims he always fulfilled, and convince her not to rush things? Or maybe Gagin should have talked more frankly with N.N.? Was it worth Asya to make such a hasty decision and leave the relationship? Was it cruel to the main character? And Mr. N.N. himself - was he ready to fight for his love, to go against secular rules, to put feelings higher? Well, there are a lot of questions, but can anyone give definitive answers to them? Hardly. Let everyone find the answer for himself...

You have read the analysis of the story "Asya" by Turgenev, also in this article the plot of the story was presented very briefly, a description of the image of Asya and a description of all the characters.

The author of this story wants to show us clearly that it is very important to pay attention to the feelings that a person has for you. The author shows us that feelings should not be ignored. Turgenev wants to tell us that it is very important to experience first love. It shows the significance of love, all its problems and happiness. But most importantly, he tells us that we need to take a step towards love for a meeting. Sooner or later, it doesn't matter, the main thing is to take the first step on the way, perhaps to the brightest and longest love.

In the plot, we are clearly told about a couple of two people, Asya and Mr. N.N. After all, it is in the circle of this couple that the whole plot unfolds. These characters accidentally met each other in the city of Reine. Asya immediately realized that she had deep and very sincere feelings for this person, Mr. N.N. But, and Mr. N.N himself, he did not immediately understand what he felt for Asya, in order for him to understand and understand his feelings for her, he thought a lot and thought about relationships and love in general. The character N.N was extremely indecisive in his intentions and actions, he did not understand what kind of bright ray of happiness he was refusing. But, he felt that very awareness of love and affection for a person too late. It was very sad, because N.N realized that he had missed what was dear to him, that he had lost and destroyed the happiness that was so close to him, he punished himself for destroying everything and losing his happiness. It was his only girlfriend, and the main favorite.

At that time of their relationship, not fused, Asya was only seventeen years old, she was a very self-confident girl. She was full of determination and absolutely nothing could embarrass her or somehow scare her. But Mr. N.N. was attracted not by this, but by the fact that she was very sincere and no matter how she tried to show off, she was an ordinary girl. N.N did not feel any feelings for other girls, and for him these feelings were new! He was in favor of calculating very accurately whether relationships would work out or not, he was used to reasoning and calculating accurately. But in his soul, he clearly, somewhere very deeply understood that he loves this girl and wants to be close to her.

However, without thinking much, he decides that the girl is too young for him. After all, Asya was only seventeen years old. From this position, he clearly understood that he was simply not ready to marry and start a family.

He missed his chance to be happy, and he perfectly understood what a mistake he had made!

The theme of love in Asya's story

The action of the story takes place abroad in Germany. The narration is conducted on behalf of the protagonist N.N. In the very first lines we learn from his lips that he was young, cheerful and healthy, did not need anything and traveled without any purpose. In a small German town N.N. sought solitude, as he had just been rejected by a young widow. At this moment, N.N. and meets the Gagins, brother and sister.

There is an opinion that the prototype of the image of Asya is Turgenev's illegitimate daughter Polina. Asya was also an illegitimate child, she was brought up first by her mother, and then in a boarding school, where she received a good education. Her way of thinking and feelings were clear to the author, he tried to convey them, describing the ambiguous behavior of Asya.

The dual position of an illegitimate child left its mark on the character of the girl. She is gifted, self-reliant and independent. At the same time very sensitive and impressionable. She is still a very young girl, almost a child. Now, when her personality is being formed, she tries on different images, different behavior. But there is no pretense in it, all Asya's actions are direct, sincere and emotional. Having met his brother and sister, Mr. N.N. feels a special disposition towards Gagin, they become good friends. But the young man is surprised, intrigued and confused by the behavior of Asya.

In fact, the reason for such a strange behavior of the girl is also that she was seized by a completely new feeling - she is in love. And, for the first time being in the power of such a strong feeling, Asya is in disarray - she does not know how to behave. From childhood, the girl got used to being in her special inner world, where not everyone lets her in. She reads and thinks a lot.

Asya expresses her thoughts and experiences directly and without slyness. A new feeling plunged the heroine into confusion. The generally accepted norms of behavior do not allow the girl to talk about her experiences, but they are so strong that Asya is seized with fever and fever. The young man is also under the influence of feelings, he sympathizes with the girl. It seems to the reader that the characters are about to open up to each other and, finally, will be happy. Asya, like Pushkin's Tatyana, is the first to confess her love. But what about the hero of her dreams? Asya's love both pleases and confuses him, and the need to make a decision causes annoyance. It becomes clear that the girl is mistaken, endowing her lover with the best human qualities, he is weak-willed and indecisive.

The denouement comes when Asya, no longer able to endure the unknown, appoints N.N. date, disregarding all conventions. Going on a date, the hero is full of good intentions, but at the decisive moment, instead of telling the girl about his love, he attacks her with accusations. Frightened by decisive action and responsibility for his actions, he loses his happiness forever. Reading the story, we see that most often the hero is annoyed. First, he is annoyed at Asya's unusual behavior, then at the fact that she openly admits her feelings, and then at herself. He realized his love only after losing it forever.

Option 3

We can say that first love is often quite tragic and unpredictable in outcome. This work reflects this assumption very clearly. In it, the author wanted to attract the attention of readers with a question that touched him personally. It was written in the year 1850, and immediately gained popularity, as this story carried a very vivid and instructive meaning, which was understood by most readers. On the one hand, the story seems simple and uncomplicated, however, if you feel it deeper, an incredibly thoughtful philosophical meaning is revealed.

The main character fell in love with Asya not at first sight. He became interested in her only when he was able to recognize her rather impulsive, but very sincere character, which he really liked. He thinks that she is a little weird and despite the fact that he has strong feelings, marrying her would be the wrong decision for him. When Asya informs him that her feelings for him are mutual, the hero cannot accept these words. The next day, he nevertheless decides that he needs to "live happily", and he dreams of taking the girl as his wife, but he does not find her in the city. Then, the hero begins to lead a lonely existence for many years. He enters into despair, and ceases to believe in anything. He understands that at one time he made a huge mistake, because he did not accept the words of a girl with whom he could become a truly happy person. Now, the hero does not believe that he will be able to meet the girl again, whom he can love as much as Asya.

For Asya, love for the hero was an instant desire, which the heroine tried to realize by making such an open confession. She was a free girl in her thoughts, and considered it necessary to inform the central character that she loved him. The author shows that despite all her frankness, she was forced to follow the path of suffering, as the hero showed strong indecision, because of which the girl decided to leave the city. The writer shows the fact that one should live in the present moment, and not postpone important moments of life for later.

    Direction "Mind and feelings"

    Essay abstracts

Mind and feelings. These words will be the main motive one of the topics at the graduation essay in 2017.

Can be distinguished two directions on which to discuss this topic.

    1. The struggle in a person of reason and feelings, requiring a mandatory choice: act, obeying the surging emotions, or still not lose your head, weigh your actions, be aware of their consequences both for yourself and for others.

    2. Reason and feelings can be allies , harmonize in a person, making him strong, self-confident, able to emotionally respond to everything that happens around.

Reflections on the topic: "Mind and feelings"

o It is human nature to choose whether to act wisely, considering each step, weighing one's words, planning actions, or obey one's feelings. These feelings can be very different: from love to hate, from malice to kindness, from rejection to acceptance. Feelings are very strong in a person. They can easily take possession of his soul and consciousness.

o What choice to make in this or that situation: to submit to feelings, which are often selfish, or to listen to the voice of reason? How to avoid internal conflict between these two "elements"? Everyone must answer these questions for himself. And a person also makes a choice on his own, a choice on which not only the future, but life itself can sometimes depend.

o Yes, mind and feelings often oppose each other. Whether a person can bring them into harmony, make sure that the mind is supported by feelings and vice versa - it depends on the will of the person, on the degree of responsibility, on the moral guidelines that he follows.

o Nature has rewarded people with the greatest wealth - the mind, gave them the opportunity to experience feelings. Now they themselves must learn to live, being aware of all their actions, but at the same time remaining sensitive, able to feel joy, love, kindness, attention, not to succumb to anger, enmity, envy and other negative feelings.

o One more thing is important: a person who lives only by feelings, in fact, is not free. He subordinated himself to them, to these emotions and feelings, whatever they may be: love, envy, anger, greed, fear, and others. He is weak and even easily controlled by others, those who want to take advantage of this human dependence on feelings for their own selfish and selfish purposes. Therefore, feelings and reason must exist in harmony, so that feelings help a person to see the whole gamut of shades in everything, and the mind - to respond correctly, adequately to this, not to drown in the abyss of feelings.

o Learning to live in harmony between your feelings and your mind is very important. A strong personality, living according to the laws of morality and morality, is capable of this. And there is no need to listen to the opinion of some people that the world of the mind is boring, monotonous, uninteresting, and the world of feelings is comprehensive, beautiful, bright. The harmony of mind and feelings will give a person immeasurably more in the knowledge of the world, in self-awareness, in the perception of life in general.

    "The Tale of Igor's Campaign"
The protagonist of "Words ..." is Prince Igor Novgorod-Seversky. This is a brave, brave warrior, a patriot of his country. Brothers and squad! Better to be killed by swords. Than from the hands of the filthy people! His cousin Svyatoslav, who ruled in Kyiv, in 1184 defeated the Polovtsy - the enemies of Russia, the nomads. Igor could not participate in the campaign. He decided to undertake a new campaign - in 1185. There was no need for it, the Polovtsy did not attack Russia after the victory of Svyatoslav. However, the desire for glory, selfishness led to the fact that Igor spoke out against the Polovtsy. Nature seemed to warn the hero about the failures that would haunt the prince - a solar eclipse occurred. But Igor was adamant. And he said, full of military thoughts, Ignoring the sign of heaven: "I want to break the spear In an unfamiliar Polovtsian field… Reason receded into the background. Feelings, moreover, of an egoistic nature, took possession of the prince. After the defeat and escape from captivity, Igor realized the mistake, realized it. That is why the author sings glory to the prince at the end of the work. This is an example of the fact that a person endowed with power must always weigh everything, it is the mind, and not feelings, even if they are positive, that should determine the behavior of a person on which the lives of many people depend.
    A.S. Pushkin "Eugene Onegin"
The heroine Tatyana Larina has strong, deep feelings for Eugene Onegin. She fell in love with him as soon as she saw him in her estate. My whole life has been a guarantee of a faithful date with you; I know you were sent to me by God, Until the grave you are my keeper ... About Onegin: He no longer fell in love with beauties, but dragged himself along somehow; Refuse - instantly comforted; Will change - I was glad to have a rest. However, Eugene realized how beautiful Tatyana is, that she is worthy of love, and he fell in love with her much later. A lot has happened over the years, and most importantly, Tatyana was already married. And happiness was so possible, So close! .. But my fate is Already decided. (Words by Tatyana Onegin) The meeting after a long separation at the ball showed how strong Tatyana's feelings are. However, she is a highly moral woman. She respects her husband, understands that she must be faithful to him. I love you (why dissemble?), But I am given to another; I will be faithful to him forever.. In the struggle of feelings and reason, win the mind. The heroine did not tarnish her honor, did not inflict a spiritual wound on her husband, although she deeply loved Onegin. She refused love, realizing that, having tied the knot of her life with a man, she simply must be faithful to him.
    L.N. Tolstoy "War and Peace"
How beautiful is the image of Natasha Rostova in the novel! As the heroine is spontaneous, open, how she longs for true love. (" Catch moments of happiness, force yourself to love, fall in love yourself! Only this one is the real thing in the world - the rest is all nonsense "- the words of the author) She sincerely fell in love with Andrei Bolkonsky, she is waiting for the year to pass, after which their wedding should take place. However, fate has prepared a serious test for Natasha - a meeting with the handsome Anatole Kuragin. He simply charmed her, feelings flooded over the heroine, and she forgot about everything. She is ready to flee into the unknown, just to be close to Anatole. How Natasha blamed Sonya, who told her family about the upcoming escape! Feelings were stronger than Natasha. The mind just went silent. Yes, the heroine will repent later, we feel sorry for her, we understand her desire to love .(I am tormented only by the evil that I did to him. Tell only him that I ask him to forgive, forgive, forgive me for everything ...) However, how cruelly Natasha punished herself: Andrei freed her from all obligations .(And of all people, I did not love or hate anyone else like her.) Reading these pages of the novel, you think about many things. It is easy to say what is good and what is bad. Sometimes feelings are so strong that a person simply does not notice how he is rolling into the abyss, succumbing to them. But still, it is very important to learn to subordinate feelings to reason, and not to subordinate, but simply to coordinate, to live in such a way that they are in harmony. Then many mistakes in life can be avoided.
    I.S. Turgenev "Asya"
25-year-old N.N. travels carelessly, however, without a goal and a plan, meets new people, and almost never visits sights. This is how I. Turgenev's story "Asya" begins. The hero will have to endure a difficult test - a test of love. This feeling arose in him for the girl Asya. It combined cheerfulness and eccentricity, openness and isolation. But the main thing is her dissimilarity to the others. Perhaps this is due to her former life: she lost her parents early, the 13-year-old girl was left in the arms of her older brother, Gagin., Asya realized that she really fell in love with N.N., and therefore led himself unusually: either closing himself, trying to retire, or wanting to draw attention to himself. Mind and feeling seem to be fighting in it, the inability to drown out the love for N.N. Unfortunately, the hero turned out to be not as decisive as Asya, who confessed her love to him in a note. N.N. also had strong feelings for Asya: “I felt some kind of sweetness - it was sweetness in my heart: it was as if they had poured me honey there.” But for too long he thought about the future with the heroine, postponing the decision for tomorrow. And there is no tomorrow for love. Asya and Gagin left, but the hero could not find a woman in his life with whom he would connect his fate. The memories of Asya were too strong, and only a note reminded of her. So the mind became the reason for the separation, and the feelings were not able to lead the hero to decisive actions. “Happiness has no tomorrow, it has no yesterday, it does not remember the past, does not think about the future. He only has the present. - And it's not a day. And a moment. »
    A.N. Ostrovsky "Dowry"
The heroine of the play is Larisa Ogudalova. She is a dowry, that is, when she gets married, her mother is not able to prepare a dowry, which was customary for a bride. Larisa's family is of average income, so she does not have to hope for a good match. So she agreed to marry Karandyshev - the only one who offered her to marry. She does not feel any love for her future husband. But a young girl wants to love! And this feeling was already born in her heart - love for Paratov, who once charmed her, and then just left. Larisa will have to experience the strongest internal struggle - between feeling and reason, duty to the person she marries. Paratov seemed to bewitch her, she admires him, gives in to a feeling of love, a desire to be with her beloved. She is naive, believes the words, thinks that Paratov loves her just as much. But what a bitter disappointment she had to experience. It is in the hands of Paratov - just a "thing". Reason still wins, insight comes. True, later. " A thing... yes, a thing! They are right, I am a thing, not a person ... Finally, a word has been found for me, you have found it ... Every thing must have an owner, I will go to the owner. And I no longer want to live, to live in a world of lies and deceit, to live without being truly loved (what a shame that she is chosen - heads or tails). Death for the heroine is a relief. How tragic her words sound: I was looking for love and didn't find it. They looked at me and look at me as if they were fun.
    A.I. Kuprin "Olesya"
"Love knows no bounds." How often do we hear these words, and repeat them ourselves. However, in life, unfortunately, not everyone is able to overcome these boundaries. How beautiful is the love of the village girl Olesya, who lives in the bosom of nature, far from civilization, and the intellectual, city dweller Ivan Timofeevich! The strong, sincere feeling of the heroes is tested: the hero must decide to marry a village girl, and even a sorceress, as she is called around, to connect life with a person who lives according to other laws, as if in another world. And the hero could not make a choice in time. Reason had weighed on him too long. Even Olesya noticed insincerity in the character of the hero: “Your kindness is not good, not cordial. You are not master of your word. Love to take over people, but you yourself do not want to, but obey them. And in the end - loneliness, because the beloved is forced to leave these places, to run away with Manuilikha from superstitious peasants. Beloved did not become her support and salvation. The eternal struggle of reason and feelings in man. How often does it lead to tragedy. Save love without losing your head, understanding the responsibility for your loved one - this is not given to everyone. Ivan Timofeevich could not stand the test of love.
A.P. Chekhov "Lady with a dog"
Holiday romance - this is how the plot of A. Chekhov's story "The Lady with the Dog" can be called. Behind the outward simplicity of the plot lies a deep content. The author shows the tragedy of people who sincerely fell in love with each other. However, family ties tied him - Gurov Dmitry Dmitrievich, and her - Anna Sergeevna. The opinion of society, the condemnation of others, the fear of publicizing their feelings - all this made the life of loving people simply unbearable. Living in hiding, meeting secretly - it was simply unbearable. But they had the main thing - love. Both heroes are unhappy and happy at the same time. Love inspired them, tired without love. They gave themselves to affection and tenderness, forgetting about their marital status. The hero changed, began to look at the world differently, ceased to be her usual burner .(... how, in essence, if you think about it, everything is beautiful in this world, everything except what we ourselves think and think when we forget about the higher goals of being, about our human dignity). Anna Sergeevna does not feel like a fallen woman either - she loves, and this is the main thing. How long will their secret meetings continue. What their love will lead to - each reader can only guess about this. But the main thing that you understand when you read this work is that love is capable of everything that it transforms, changes people, fills their life with meaning. This feeling has great power over a person, and the mind sometimes falls silent before it - Love.
    I.A. Bunin "Dark alleys"
Sometimes relationships between people are complicated. Especially when it comes to such a strong feeling as love. What to give preference to: the strength of feelings that have gripped a person, or listen to the voice of reason, which suggests that the chosen one is from another circle, that she is not a couple, which means that there can be no love. So the hero of I. Bunin's short story "Dark Alleys" Nikolai in his youth experienced a great feeling of love for Nadezhda, who was from a completely different environment, a simple peasant woman. The hero could not connect his life with his beloved: the laws of the society to which he belonged too dominated him. Yes, and how many more in life there will be, these Hopes! ( ... it always seems that somewhere there will be something especially happy, some kind of meeting ...) In the end - life with an unloved woman. Gray days. And only many years later, when he saw Nadezhda again, Nikolai realized that such love was given to him by fate, and he passed her by, past his happiness. And Nadezhda was able to carry through her whole life this great feeling - love. .(Youth passes for everyone, but love is another matter.) So sometimes fate, the whole life of a person, depends on the choice between reason and feeling.
    V. Rasputin "Live and remember"
A person should always remember that he is responsible for his loved ones, his loved ones. But Andrei, the hero of V. Rasputin's story "Live and Remember", forgot about this. He became a deserter during the war years, in fact, fled from the front, because he really wanted to see the house, his relatives on vacation, which he received for a few days, but did not have time to get home. A brave soldier, he suddenly became rejected by society. The feeling won over the mind, the desire to be at home turned out to be so strong that he, a soldier, violated the military oath. And with this, the hero made the life of his loved ones miserable: his wife and parents have already become the family of an enemy of the people. Strong feelings for her husband and his wife - Nastya. Realizing that she is committing a crime, she helps Andrei, who is hiding from the authorities, does not betray him. (That's why she is a woman, to soften and smooth the life together, that's why this amazing power was given to her, which is all the more amazing, tender and richer, the more often it is used.) As a result, both she and her unborn child die: Nastya threw herself into the river when she realized that she was being chased and she betrayed her beloved .(When everything is good, it's easy to be together: it's like a dream, you know, breathe, and that's all. You have to be together when it's bad - that's what people come together for, ”the words of Nastya) A tragedy, a real drama unfolded, because Andrei Guskov succumbed to the power of feelings. You always need to remember about the people living with us, and not to commit rash acts, because otherwise the worst thing can happen - the death of loved ones.
M.A. Bulgakov "The Master and Margarita"
Love. It's an amazing feeling. It makes a person happy, life takes on new shades. For the sake of love, real, all-encompassing, a person sacrifices everything. So the heroine of the novel by M. Bulgakov, Margarita, for the sake of love, left her outwardly prosperous life. Everything seemed to be fine with her: a husband holding a prestigious position, a large apartment, at a time when many people huddled in communal apartments. (Margarita Nikolaevna did not need money. Margarita Nikolaevna could buy anything she liked. Among her husband's acquaintances there were interesting people. Margarita Nikolaevna never touched a stove. Margarita Nikolaevna did not know the horrors of living in a joint apartment. In a word ... was she happy? Not one minute!) But there was no main thing - love .. there was only loneliness (And I was struck not so much by her beauty as by the extraordinary, unseen loneliness in her eyes! - the words of the Master). because her life is empty.) And when love came, Margarita went to her beloved .(She looked at me in surprise, and I suddenly, and quite unexpectedly, realized that I had loved this particular woman all my life! - the master will say) What played a major role here? The senses? Of course yes. Intelligence? Probably he, too, because Margarita deliberately abandoned a prosperous outwardly life. And she no longer cares that she lives in a small apartment. The main thing is that he is nearby - her Master. She helps him finish the novel. She is even ready to become a queen at Woland's ball - all this for the sake of love. So both reason and feelings were in harmony in Margarita's soul. (Follow me, reader! Who told you that there is no true, true, eternal love in the world? May the liar be cut off his vile tongue!) Do we condemn the heroine? Here everyone will answer in their own way. But still, life with an unloved person is also wrong. So the heroine made a choice, choosing the path of love, the strongest feeling that a person can experience.

    "Honor and dishonor".

This is how the second direction of the topics of the final essay on literature in 2017 is indicated.

At the heart of human morality are many concepts. Honor is one of them. In explanatory dictionaries you can find a variety of definitions of this word:

o Moral qualities worthy of respect and pride

o Honor is a combination of qualities such as justice, loyalty, truthfulness, dignity and nobility.

o This is a readiness to defend one's interests, the interests of loved ones, the people, the state.

o This is the ability to neglect one's own good for the sake of others, even the willingness to give one's life for the sake of justice.

o Staying true to the ideals of the principles

Love is invariably present in Turgenev's stories. However, it rarely ends happily: the writer brings a touch of tragedy to the love theme. Love in the image of Turgenev is a cruel and capricious force that plays with human destinies. This is an unusual, violent element that equalizes people, regardless of their position, character, intellect, internal appearance. Before this element, the most diverse people often turn out to be defenseless: the democrat Bazarov and the aristocrat Pavel Petrovich are equally unhappy (“Fathers and Sons”), it is difficult to come to terms with their fate for a young, naive girl, Liza Kalitina, and an experienced, mature man, nobleman Lavretsky, who is ready was to a new life in his homeland ("Noble Nest").

Lonely, with broken hopes and a vain dream of happiness, remains Mr. N.N., the hero of the story "Asya". When you read the story, it seems that its whole meaning is contained in the famous Pushkin phrase - “And happiness was so possible, so close ...” It is said in “Eugene Onegin” by Tatyana, forever separating her fate from the fate of her chosen one. The hero of Turgenev finds himself in a similar situation. From his unfulfilled dream, only a farewell note and a dried geranium flower remain, which he sacredly keeps.

Let us recall the content of the story: during a trip to Germany, Mr. N.N. accidentally met a Russian family - Gagin and his sister Asya. Friendships developed between the new acquaintances. And soon Asya fell in love with N.N., but he could not reciprocate her, because he was not completely sure of his feelings. Mr. N.N. considered it his duty to tell Gagin about everything. When, in the soul of the hero, “a clear consciousness ... of love” flashed “with irresistible force”, Asya was already far away - Gagin took her away from the city. Subsequently, N.N. tried to find her, but all his attempts ended in failure.

What is the reason for such an ending, when the lovers were separated forever? Let's try to analyze the content of the story.

Mr. N.N. young, cheerful and carefree. He has no special problems, he is rich, not concerned about anything - he lives "without looking back", does what he wants. He is observant, receptive to new impressions. He is especially interested in people, their behavior, speeches, etc. He liked Asya at first sight, he saw something special, graceful in her. She struck him with her mobility, variability, immediacy. Already after the first meeting with her, the hero felt unaccountably happy.

After the second meeting N.N. feels a strange heaviness in his heart. It seems to him that he misses his homeland, but nostalgic feelings suddenly turn into bitter and burning excitement. And soon the true reason for the mood of the hero is revealed - jealousy. N.N. suspects that Asya Gagina is not a sister.

At the third meeting, the narrator notes the naturalness of the girl's behavior, the absence of affectation and coquetry in her. Asya is more and more interested in him. N.N. tries to unravel her nature, learn about her past, about her upbringing, but the girl tells almost nothing about herself.

The “secret” of the sister is unexpectedly revealed by Gagin, dedicating the hero to her life story. Here, together with the narrator, we learn a lot about Asa, about the origins of her character. Her isolation and willfulness, variability of behavior, dissimilarity to others become clear.

Asya is illegitimate, she is the daughter of a landowner and a maid. The girl very soon realized her "false position", "vanity developed in her strongly, distrust too, bad habits took root, simplicity disappeared." Feeling ashamed, she "wanted ... to make the whole world forget her origins." More than anything, Asya wanted to be "no worse than other young ladies", but in all her movements there was "something restless", in her eyes - distrust and wariness. As the hero remarked, "this wildling has recently been vaccinated."

When, after the death of her father, Gagin placed her in a boarding school, she read books, "studied well," she did not yield to anyone. For all that, her character was unbalanced, she remained "savage", stubborn, "did not want to come under the general level."

However, despite all the "strangeness" of the heroine, her imbalance, painful pride, "her heart did not deteriorate", "the mind survived." Telling the hero about the fate of his sister, Gagin notices that her heart is "very kind" and not a single feeling was "half" in her. Asya has a highly developed imagination, fantasy, impressionability. Gagin tells Mr. N.N. that she "needs a hero, an extraordinary person - or a picturesque shepherd in a mountain gorge."

Hearing the story of Gagin, N.N. frankly delighted: it became easy for him when he learned the truth. “I felt some kind of sweetness - just sweetness in my heart; as if on the sly, they poured honey into it, ”the narrator remarked. Now he not only learned the truth, now he began to understand a lot about Asa. His own feelings became clearer: the hero realized that he was attracted to Asa not only by her originality, “half-wild charm”, but also by her soul. He felt the exciting proximity of extraordinary happiness, "happiness to the point of satiety." N. N. already loves Asya, but does not yet realize this.

But Gagin intervenes in the relationship of the heroes. Having learned about the feelings of his sister, he decides to have a frank conversation with N.N. This conversation becomes to some extent decisive, defining for the hero. Gagin forces him to designate in words that which is barely born in his soul, of which he himself is not aware. Gagin turns a ghostly, beautiful dream into a rough reality, the poetry of an exciting feeling into the prose of life. That is why N.N. is so annoyed with his friend, angry with Asya.

All further actions of the hero were only a consequence of his conversation with Gagin. During a meeting with Asya, N. N. does not understand himself well. He reproaches Asya for initiating her brother into her feelings, gets angry with her, annoyed with himself. In his mind all the time there is a thought about his duty, about his own image in the eyes of Gagin. It seems to the hero that everything is “distorted, discovered”, he feels bound by the promise given to Gagin. The date ends with "nothing": in tears, Asya runs away from Frau Louise's house.

And only when the girl suddenly disappears, forcing everyone to worry and look for her everywhere, the feelings of the hero are finally exposed. “It was no longer vexation that gnawed at me, a secret fear tormented me, and I felt more than one fear ... no, I felt remorse, the most burning regret, love—yes! the most tender love,” the narrator remarks. The hero breaks up with Gagin in anticipation of the future happiness, but this happiness is not destined to come true: Asya disappears forever.

Chernyshevsky in the article “Russian Man on Render-Vous” wrote that the reason for Mr. N.N.’s unhappy love was the pettiness and soullessness of his life, his timidity, indecision, and spiritual infantilism. The critic considered the relationship of the characters in the aspect traditional for Russian literature: "an extraordinary, selfless woman and a weak, indecisive man."

    D. Pisarev also believed that the personal qualities of the hero and heroine became an obstacle to happiness. Asya is proud, Mr. N.N. is timid. In the ambiguous position of the girl, these traits turned out to be fatal.

Of course, the mental warehouse of the hero is very important here. However, it seems that the point is not at all in his cowardice and infantilism, but in that specific feature of his nature, which P. Annenkov designated as "sensuality." Mr. N. N. in the story constantly enjoys life - the beauty of nature, communication with people, his soul longs for new and new experiences. He constantly analyzes and evaluates his feelings. The true value for him is not people and events as such, but the shadow they cast in his mind.

“There is not the slightest sign that he was busy with the truth, the truth of his relationship with the unexpected Juliette, who came across to him on the road: he is only busy studying her character and studying his impressions. But in the nature of this person there is one important quality: he is able to understand himself and, on occasion, to recognize the poverty of his moral being. That is why he sometimes stops at the very goal towards which he recklessly strives, ”wrote the critic.

However, the mental warehouse of the hero is only one of the reasons for his life drama, and the reason is superficial. The true, deep meaning of events lies in the inevitability of fate. Fate in Turgenev is hostile to man. Happiness on earth is impossible due to the primordial doom of earthly love, the frailty of earthly happiness.

In his novels, the writer almost does not depict happy love. Very interesting in this regard are the observations of the pre-revolutionary researcher Andreevsky. He notices that Turgenev is a "poet of girls", not women. The writer nowhere depicts a marriage union. We see a happy family in Turgenev's novels either "in the project" (Arkady Kirsanov and Katya Odintsova) or "in old age" (Bazarov's parents). Lisa ("On the Eve"), Natalya Lasunskaya ("Rudin"), Asya ("Asya"), Marya Pavlovna ("Calm"), Gemma ("Spring Waters") - "disappear from the stage as girls." This is where “Turgenev’s fear of life, fear of happiness due to fear of death, due to bitter fear and consciousness that all this happiness will inevitably fade, collapse and disappear,” the researcher writes.

At the same time, Turgenev often opposes love and death (the story "Enough"), love in the writer's view is a force equal to death, even defeating it. Through love, beauty and art, a person, according to Turgenev, gains immortality. Hence the great selectivity of feelings, the increased attention of a person to his feelings and impressions.

The poetry of love in Turgenev is in the "unrealizability of feelings." D. Merezhkovsky notes that in his work and worldview the writer contrasts “love-lust” and romantic love. The first type of love is tantamount to personal death, the second to immortality. Therefore, the love of the hero in "Ace" is "unrealizable", it remains "in love".

It is worth noting that Turgenev's worldview was largely formed under the influence of Schopenhauer's philosophy, which affirms the unrealizability of the idea of human happiness. “Happiness ... always lies in the future, or in the past, and the present is like a small dark cloud that the wind drives over the plain illuminated by the sun: everything is light in front of it and behind it, only it itself constantly casts a shadow from itself. The present therefore never satisfies us, and the future is unreliable, the past is irrevocable. Life ... with its deceived hopes, with its failures and disappointments - this life bears such a clear imprint of inevitable suffering that it is difficult to understand ... how can one believe that a person exists in order to be happy, ”writes Schopenhauer . It is this idea that lies in the subtext of the story "Asya".

    The writing

The story of Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev "Asya" is a story about all-consuming love, written 1 in 1857 in Germany. It was first published in 1858 in the Sovremennik magazine. One of the most romantic stories, where the writer touches on the topic of first love, speaks of how important it is not to overlook your happiness. The story has autobiographical features.
The plot is based on the relationship between the seventeen-year-old girl Asya and N.N.

The love of the protagonist in the story "Asya" cannot be called love at first sight. By a strange, fatal coincidence, the hero understands how strong his feeling is, only after losing his beloved forever. First, he awakens interest in a mysterious girl, sincere and direct, natural in changing her moods, in showing her feelings. Her dissimilarity to others at first attracts Mr. N.N., and at the same time repels: "This strange girl attracted me." And just looking into the soul of this girl, which she revealed to him, the hero gradually begins to experience feelings unknown to him until then. It "lit the thirst for happiness." He does not think yet whether he loves Asya, but is under the power of her charm. However, Mr. N.N. was used to living not with his heart, but with his mind. For him, first of all, the “practical” side of the issue is important, he reflects: “To marry a seventeen-year-old girl, with her disposition, how is it possible!” And when Asya confesses her love to him, the hero does not find a single word to become happy himself and give happiness to Asya.

But, unfortunately, he could not say this word, because love flashed in him "with irresistible force only a few moments later." Realizing the strength of his feelings, Mr. N. N. believes that it is still possible to improve. "Tomorrow I will be happy!" - he says to himself, not understanding that "happiness has no tomorrow ... it has a present - and that is not a day, but a moment."

One moment became fatal for her, depriving him of the only woman with whom he could be happy. It doesn't take long for him to realize what he has lost. Only years later, "condemned to the loneliness of a familyless bean", living out "boring years", having lost "winged hopes and aspirations", he feels that love for Asya left an imprint on his whole life. He keeps, “like a shrine”, objects that remind him of Asa, of the brightest and strongest feeling that he was destined to experience, and of the happiness that he could not keep. “... The feeling that Asya aroused in me, that burning, tender, deep feeling has not happened again,” he admits sadly. He was afraid of her love.

Perhaps life with Asya would have brought him a lot of anxiety and suffering, but it would have been a real, living life, illuminated by a real, sincere feeling. But, having made a fatal mistake, the hero is doomed to drag out a boring, monotonous existence, devoid of purpose and higher meaning. It can be said that in the soul of N. N. two people fought, as it were: one was ready to accept Asya's love, the other held on to conventions. And he was given the freedom to choose to build his own destiny and become happy. But he refused this opportunity, choosing "the loneliness of a familyless bean" and keeping, "like a shrine, her notes and a dried geranium flower, the same flower that she once threw ... out of the window."

    N. G. Chernyshevsky in his work “A Russian Man at a Rendezvous” wrote: “... while there is no talk of business, but you just need to take up idle time, fill an idle head or an idle heart with conversations or dreams, the hero is very lively; comes to the point ... already begins to hesitate and feel slowness in the language ”:
Another thing is Asya's love for N.N. This feeling has become for her something more than simple love. This is primarily due to the willingness to forget about yourself for the sake of a loved one. Asya does not live in the future, she wants to be happy here and now, at this moment in time. N.N. for her is an extraordinary person who knows how to live, she does not see his rationality and indecision. Asya idealizes him, and such an attitude, as you know, is characteristic of the first love, when the flaws of a loved one become transparent, invisible. "How to live?" Asya asks, thinking that her lover knows the answers to all questions. In N.N. she sees a man capable of a feat, a hero.

I She is so passionate that she begins to doubt that she is worthy of the love of a person like N.N., and therefore tries to suppress love in herself. But we see all the futility of these attempts, Asya tells Kіoztom about her feelings.

The heroine of Turgenev is alive and active, it is important for her “to go somewhere far away, to pray, to a difficult feat ... Otherwise, the days go by, life will go away, but what have we done?” But at the same time, this image is very romantic, the writer endowed Asya with a special attraction contained in her character. N. Nekrasov highly appreciated this image, saying that "spiritual youth emanates from her, she is all pure gold of life."

A special role in the story is played by the meeting scene between Asya and N.N., in which everything falls into place. They explain themselves to each other, and this leaves an imprint on the fate of both heroes. After this unsuccessful explanation, each of them is doomed to suffering. Happiness cannot be shelved, and Turgenev speaks directly about this: “Happiness has no tomorrow ... it has a present ...” N. N. tries to accuse Asya of being ahead of events, he throws her : "You did not allow the feeling that was beginning to ripen to develop, you yourself severed our connection, you did not have confidence in me, you doubted me."

This is a sad story about first love. Happiness turned out to be impossible, because one of the lovers abandoned his feelings, choosing conventions. However, love cannot live by rules. N.N.'s fear of being happy made not only him unhappy, but also Asya, for whom love was an important and integral part of life. N.N. hurt not only himself, but also Asya. She disappears, and this suggests that the girl will no longer be able to love the way she loved N.N.
