Why Kylo Ren is better than Darth Vader as a villain. Harrison Ford - famous Hollywood actor

In this article you will learn:

Kylo Ren is the main villain of the new Star Wars movie. This character appeared quite recently and immediately received mixed reviews. Kylo is the son of Han and Leia, and the grandson of Darth Vader. The villain is part of the Canon.

background

The character's real name is Ben. He was born into the family of a smuggler and a princess. The hero's approximate date of birth is 5-6 ABY. He was born after the victory of the Republic over the Empire at the Battle of Endor.

Ben was a force-sensitive boy. Parents were afraid that he would follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, so as soon as the boy reached a certain age, his uncle was sent for training.

Perhaps Han and Leia were not ideal parents, so their son left his teacher at some point, becoming a member of the dark organization Knights of Ren, which belonged to the First Order, followers of the Empire. Having embarked on the path of dark power, Ben took on the new name of Kylo.

As a sign that he belongs to the Knights, the hero took the prefix Ren (similar to how the Sith took the prefix Dart before).

In place of the regular lightsaber, Kylo assembled a sword with an unusual design that was extremely unstable.

After the departure of her son, Leia led the Resistance, Khan went on a spree, going on a long journey, and Skywalker, feeling guilty for the failure with the student, disappeared.

Ren played by Adam Driver

The Force Awakens

This is the first film where the character Ren appeared. His role was played by actor Adam Driver (no comment!).

Kylo became the Master of the Knights of Ren and worked under the Supreme Leader of the First Order, Snoke, along with General Hux, at Starkiller Base (something similar to the Death Star, only on a larger scale).

The hero studied the whole history of his grandfather and became so obsessed with him that he vowed to finish his work. Like all Knights of Ren, the character wore dark robes and a mask.

While Ren was chasing the fugitives, a battle took place in orbit around Starkiller Base, which ended with the destruction of the Order's weapons.

Kylo managed to catch up with Finn and Rey. In a short fight with Finn, who used Luke Skywalker's sword, the dark apprentice emerged victorious, but his strength was not enough for Rey, who defeated Ren. Kylo could have died at the hands of a scavenger, but Starkiller Base began to fall apart and Ren and Rey were separated.

After the failure, the surviving Kylo was delivered to Snoke.

After two films about rising evil, it's time to admit that Kylo Ren is the best villain "Star Wars". With his back to the light, Ben Solo returned to "The Last Jedi". Adam Driver's character has already become one of the highlights "The Force Awakens", and he's outdone himself with Rian Johnson's new film, which focuses on the relationship between Kylo and Rey.

The sequel trilogy has some clear parallels with the original trilogy, with Ren deliberately parodying Darth Vader. Both characters take on the role of the main antagonist, a powerful dark Force user who seduces the developing Jedi during his self-discovery. However, Kylo Ren doesn't just copy Darth Vader. Instead, we see a new villain that does not overlap with the previous films in the universe.

In short, Kylo Ren is a better villain than Darth Vader because of his complexity: his flaws, fears, emotions, and growth over the course of the films form a full-fledged character that wasn't there before. "Star Wars". Kylo is constantly evolving. He is impulsive, sometimes nervous and weak. But Kylo Ren's weakness is his character's strength. While Darth Vader is a simple character whose redemption is a plot device rather than a characterization, Kylo Ren's erratic journey shows him to be dynamic and still evolving as a human in the finale. "The Last Jedi".

This does not mean that Ben Solo was stronger or more successful than his grandfather; in fact, his flaws make him even more interesting as a character.

Darth Vader PLAYS A ROLE, NOT A CHARACTER

Darth Vader is the monolithic villain of the first trilogy. In movie "New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back" he represents pure evil and the personification of the Dark Side of the Force and the Empire. He strangles his subordinates, tortures prisoners and kills without mercy. Vader doesn't change - and doesn't need to change - in the original trilogy.

AT "Return of the Jedi" Luke Skywalker says that he feels good in him, but that good is not seen by the audience until the last moments of the story, when Vader intervenes to save Luke from the Emperor. The ending is part of the original trilogy's classic storyline, but Vader's redemption isn't something that develops over time; this is a function of the story, not a reflection of his character's development.

Of course, the prequels develop Anakin Skywalker's backstory and illustrate Darth Vader's story over the course of three additional films. However, this only applies retroactively to the original trilogy and the character he has become. Nothing in the original trilogy points to the complicated history of Darth Vader. It's also worth noting that what we have with Ben Solo is similar to Anakin's story in episodes I-III.

This does not make him less of a threat; Vader is the greatest star villain. But he has limitations. Darth Vader's costume is frightening and dehumanizing. He makes it a symbol of evil. However, it also limits David Prowse's ability to show emotion, as we don't see a human face. Vader is almost entirely associated with the voice of James Earl Jones. As a result, Vader's inner thoughts and emotions are hidden from the audience. "Star Wars".

KYLO REN A COMPLEX CHARACTER THAT EVOLVES

Kylo is in the process of transforming into "Incitement of the Force" and "The Last Jedi". He is still trying to figure out who he is and what role he will play. He is a villain who is unpredictable and erratic - in the seventh episode, he hesitates to kill Han Solo and is blinded by emotion during his fight with Rey at Starkiller Base. AT "The Last Jedi" it becomes clear that his father's death has made him even more doubtful.

Adam Driver's success "The Last Jedi" helps the elimination of the mask of Kylo Ren; after Snoke mocks his childishness and imitation of Darth Vader, Ben angrily destroys her. This shows the character as vulnerable and vulnerable, which would be impossible if he was like Darth Vader.

He kills Supreme Leader Snoke, only to take over the First Order himself. We gradually discover that Kylo is hungry, selfish and ambitious; he is not interested in redemption and sees Rey as a powerful ally to help rule the galaxy. By killing Snoke and taking his place, Kylo is doing something that Darth Vader would never do.

It is extremely interesting how we will see him in Episode IX. It is a journey that is painful and, above all, emotional.

Kylo Ren may not be as effective as a villain as Darth Vader, but "The Last Jedi" proves that he is the most unusual and complex villain in canon "Star Wars". The only question is whether the authors will be able to reveal its full potential.

The seventh episode of Star Wars left a lot of mysteries, the answers to which we will find out with the release of new parts or we will never know. However, this does not prevent fans from building their theories. Recently on the io9 portal, Rob Bricken collected as many as 24 theories about the origin of the main character of the film - Rey. We publish a translation of this material.

Warning: contains spoilers. If you haven't seen the new movie yet, then... what planet are you from?

Rey is the daughter of Luke Skywalker

Yes, of course! Star Wars is the story of the Skywalker family, so Rey can't just be some random Tat…Jakku girl. Fans who support this theory make the following arguments:

Opponents of the theory of these facts do not deny, however, they believe that such an explanation is too obvious and banal. However, do not forget the experience of another film authored by Abrams - "Star Trek: Retribution." The role of Benedict Cumberbatch was hidden until the end, and in the end we got the most obvious answer - Khan.

But if Luke really left his five-year-old daughter on a desert planet (whatever his motives), then the entire trilogy of sequels is in very, very big problems.

2. Ray is the daughter of Han and Leia

Many would like the battle for the galaxy to unfold between brother and sister - Rey and Kylo Ren (Ben Solo). According to the theory, after Ben turned to the dark side of the Force, Han and Leia had to hide the youngest child on Jakku so that the girl was safe. As in the first theory, the problem is that a planet where there is not enough food and a small population of mostly bandits and scavengers is not the best place to protect a child from danger.

3. Ray is the daughter of Leah and ...

One of the variations of the second theory, which is based on the idea that after her son's transition to the Dark Side and the subsequent rupture of relations with Khan, Leia gave birth to a child from another man (substitute anyone but Luke in his place) and ... abandoned her daughter to Jakku. After all, Leia is the worst mother in a distant galaxy.

4. Ray - Obi-Wan Kenobi's granddaughter/great granddaughter

The only evidence in favor of this theory is Daisy Ridley's (Ray) British accent. If you nevertheless take it on faith, it turns out that Obi-Wan is a real hypocrite: he scolded Anakin for a love affair with Padme, and in the meantime he himself was engaged in the continuation of the Kenobi family.

5. Rey is the daughter of one of the Jedi trained by Luke

We know that Luke tried to rebuild the Jedi Order and that nothing good came of it - thanks to Kylo Ren and his Knights of Ren. Ben Solo and his goth friends killed all the Jedi, including, perhaps, a couple of Skywalker's students, who had Rey born a few years before the tragedy.

If Luke's paternity theory is too cliche, then this theory is too stupid. Why keep Rey's origin story under wraps when her parents are characters we'll never see or hear from?

6. Ray is born of the Force

Did you miss the Immaculate Conception performed by Mother Force? The authors of this theory are bored. The Force pulled off such a trick at least once, when Shmi Skywalker became pregnant on her own. Without participation ... well, you understand. She gave birth to Anakin, who, as it turned out, was supposed to restore the balance of the Force. The theory is unlikely, as the sequel trilogy tries to distance itself from the prequel trilogy and forget the midi-chlorians as a nightmare to return the Force to its original mysticism. In addition, if we take into account the frequency of cases of immaculate conception with the participation of mysterious energy, it turns out that the Force is not a miracle, but a real serial rapist.

7 Rey Is The Reincarnation Of Anakin Skywalker

On the one hand, this theory does not make a sexual maniac out of the Force. Anakin Skywalker is simply reborn in the body of a random child in order to restore balance again ... blah blah blah. On the other hand, it turns out that the Force again invades the lives of ordinary people without asking. In general, the idea of reincarnation doesn't really fit with the general Star Wars mythology, in which the Jedi merge with the Force after death. What is it, the Force - a waiting room for ghosts, where they can hang out until they are reborn again?

"I'm human and my name is Anakin!"

8. Rei's origin story is connected to the Emperor himself!

There are several theories here. For example, Ray could be the granddaughter or great-granddaughter of Darth Sidious, which means she inherited the full power of the Dark Side. What do you think about the fact that Ray is a clone of Palpatine, who was created by the remnants of the Empire after the events of Return of the Jedi?

9 Rey Is Kylo Ren's Daughter

Let's not spend much time on this theory. Let's immediately turn to the facts: at the time of the events of Episode VII, Rey's age is 19 years old, Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) is 30 years old. Now for some math: 30-19=11. 11 years old Carl! Does anyone really think that Lucasfilm and Disney included a story with an 11-year-old dad in the plot?

10 Ray - Supreme Leader Snoke's daughter

As you must have figured out by now, we've come to the point where crazy people's crazy theories devolve into just listing all the characters they can remember. First on the agenda is the mysterious leader of the First Order. There is no logic here. Everything is sterile.

11 Ray - Captain Phasma's Daughter

The basis of this theory was the thought: "If Phasma is not Rey's mother, then why the hell was she even included in the film?" But, as we know, not all plot ideas make it into the final cut. Plus, Gwendolyn Christie, who plays the chrome-plated First Order stormtrooper, has signed on to star in the next installment of the supernova trilogy, which means we can expect a more detailed reveal of this character.

12. Ray - daughter of Qui-Gon Jinn

Obi-Wan's Master has always been a very wayward Jedi. What if he decided to break his vow of celibacy and have a baby? Moreover, there are those who believe that Rey's mother is Shmi Skywalker! Why couldn't Qui-Gon and Shmi have fun the night before the Bunta Eve race? Unfortunately, the time frame of history smashes this idea to smithereens.

13. Ray - Boba Fett's daughter

Wait a minute ... Everything converges! Boba Fett was on Tatooine... Jakku is similar to Tatooine... Boba Fett escaped death in the mouth of a sarlacc... Boba Fett is a tough guy, he obviously has no problem seducing women... Oh, let's move on!

14. Ray - Wedge Antilles' daughter

Only if the new canon officially announces that Wedge suffers from male infertility will the proponents of this theory give up (probably). And now they don't care that Wedge was never Force-sensitive, that the popularity of this hero extends only to a very narrow circle of people, and that Denis Lawson (who played Wedge in the Original Trilogy) said that he was not going to return to his role in the new " Star Wars".

15. Ray - Count Dooku's great granddaughter

Unlike Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, Dooku could quite easily spit on the vows of the Jedi Order and start a family. But the plausibility of this theory still tends to zero. Dooku is a character from the prequels, and we remember how the supernova trilogy relates to the prequels.

16. Ray - Mara Jade's daughter

If Luke is Rey's father, then who is her mother? Of course, Mara Jade, the most popular character in the Expanded Universe! Of course, the likelihood that the developments of the old will be used when creating a new canon is quite high. Rey's mother may indeed be named Mara Jade, but she's unlikely to be the same bobafett-cool ex-assassin and Emperor's Hand.

17. Ray is part of Darth Plagueis' plan

If anyone does not know or does not remember (shame on you!), there was such a Sith Lord, Palpatine's teacher. He was mentioned several times in the prequels, and the history of his experiments with immortality and life after death led some to believe that he was the one who created Anakin and Rey through the Force. Unfortunately, most of the arguments in favor of this theory come from the old canon, which makes it unlikely.

18. Ray is the granddaughter/great granddaughter of Shmi Skywalker and Cliegg Lars

Some fans are so desperate for Rey to be from the Skywalker family that they are willing to add another half-brother or half-sister of Anakin Skywalker to the story, who would continue the lineage in a different direction. Why was the fact of their existence hidden throughout history? Oh, everything!

19. Rey is a clone of Anakin Skywalker

Does anyone remember during or after the events of Return of the Jedi, Luke said, “I saved my father. He finally found peace in the Force. I guess I'll play with his DNA now"?

20. Ray - Shara Bay's daughter

The heroine of the Empire Divided comic book series, a talented pilot and the mother of Poe Dameron, another hero of episode VII. Thus, according to supporters of the theory, Po and Ray are brother and sister. We don't want to upset you, but Shara Bay died 6 years after the Battle of Endor, and Ray was born 12-13 years later.

21. Ray - daughter of Thane Kirell and Sienna Ria

These are the characters of the teenage novel "Lost Stars" from the new canon. They had been friends since childhood, entered the imperial academy together, and fell in love with each other. Then Thane joined the Rebels, and Siena remained loyal to the Empire, hoping to use its opportunities for good. The book does not tell how their story ended. But the plot, in which Ray is the daughter of officers from two opposing sides, excites the minds of some fans. Why not? These characters, again, have never been Force-sensitive, and it is highly doubtful that the story of Rey's parents was told in a book designed exclusively for teenagers.

22. Ray - Ezra Bridger's daughter

The hero of "Rebels" is clearly male and would have been 30 at the time of Ray's birth. Sensitive to the Force. Everything fits... but again, it's not clear why he could leave his child on Jakku - and why they decided to reveal the story of Ray's parents through an animated series that is only watched by the audience of the Disney XD channel.

23. Ray - Dr. Aphra's relatives

Doctor Aphra is one of the key characters in the comics, so why shouldn't she play an important role in the story? Look at the numbers. The first issue of Star Wars comics sold about a million copies. Do you know how many tickets for The Force Awakens have been sold so far? Over 100 million! Let's say it again: the story of Ray's parents will not be told in books, comics and animated series.

24. Another crazy theory

What if Ray doesn't have parents? What if she's the result of an experiment? For example, some scientist who continued the work of the forces of evil after the death of the Emperor. Perhaps Snoke or one of the Knights of Ren. Any other Sith. No matter. Whoever he was, he set out to create the perfect master of the Force from the most powerful Jedi at that time - Luke. More precisely, from his hand.

Think of it in terms of science in Star Wars - it doesn't work like it does in real life. From the body of the Emperor after the destruction of the Death Star, apparently little remained. Vader's body was burned by his son. As such, Luke is the only suitable material for DNA experiments. Given that Anakin Skywalker's sword, which Luke wielded in Empire, was somehow found on Bespin, it means that his hand could be found. And if the leaks about the original script of the seventh episode are to be believed, there was actually a scene where Luke's hand flies in space, continuing (!) to squeeze the hilt of the sword. Let's assume that, after spending a certain amount of time, this as yet unknown scientist managed to create Ray using Luke's living matter.

Thus, Ray becomes the successor of the Skywalker family, and at the same time there is no need to introduce into the plot the fact that Luke impregnated a certain character whom we will never see and who will not be dear to us. There is no need to repeat the history of the virgin birth with the participation of the Force. Imagine that during one of the battles against the Empire / First Order, Luke and his comrades come across a secret laboratory, where they find five-year-old Rey and save her. Luke decides to train her along with Ben Solo and the other Jedi, but when Snoke learns of this, he orders the Knights of Ren to destroy the girl or bring her to him so he can turn her to the dark side of the Force. En route to this goal, the Knights of Ren massacre and massacre the entire New Jedi Order.

However, Ben Solo for some reason could not kill the little girl and decided to leave her on a desert planet, in the hands of a dubious individual named Unkar Platt. Thus, minimizing the chances that at least someone will ever find out about this girl.

Thus, neither Luke nor Leia and Han could be absolutely sure of Rey's fate, whether she was alive or dead. In doing so, Luke entertained the possibility that she had survived the New Order massacre, and made a map that Ray could use to locate him when she was ready for training. So, in fact, it happened.

Yes, this theory is crazy, but damn, it sounds much more plausible than all this Qui-Gon-Phasma-Ezra-Shmi-nonsense.

Since the spring of 1977 the first picture from the Star Wars epic was released, many years have passed. Contrary to the opinion of skeptics, over the years, the audience's interest in this saga has not decreased, but, on the contrary, has increased.

One of the most beloved characters in the movie series is Han Solo (actor Harrison Ford). In 2018, it is planned to shoot a separate film dedicated to his adventures in the time of turbulent youth, before the events of the Star Wars. Episode IV: A New Hope. In the upcoming film, Solo will be played by another actor for the first time.

Han Solo is an iconic Star Wars character

Unlike other goodies, concerned with issues of honor, justice and the common good, Han Solo was just a witty smuggler who accidentally got involved in political games. However, he fell in love with the audience precisely with this simplicity, as well as inconspicuous nobility.

Meanwhile, life did not spoil the hero. In early childhood, he got on the ship to the famous criminal Shrike, who kept hundreds of young thieves as slaves on his ship "Merchant's Fortune".

Han Solo managed to escape from this scoundrel only at the age of nineteen. He later entered the Imperial Military Academy, graduating with honors. However, a career in the Navy did not work out, because the young man did not obey the order of the chief and refused to kill an innocent Wookiee slave, remembering his slave childhood. As a result, the hero retrained as a smuggler, becoming one of the best in the entire galaxy. The rescued Wookiee became his faithful comrade, known to all fans under the name of Chewbacca.

The audience first meets these heroes in the fourth part of Star Wars. At this time, Han Solo (actor Harrison Ford) owed a lot of money to the famous crime boss Jabba the Hutt. To pay, he undertakes to take Luke, his mentor Obi-Wan and two droids to the planet Alderaan.

However, the planet is destroyed before the heroes arrive. Khan helps his passengers infiltrate the Death Star, and later participates in the rescue of the Alderaanian Princess Leia, with whom he falls in love. He also helps the Alliance and receives a medal for this. But Jabba's mercenaries manage to find Solo and deliver him to the Hutt, frozen in carbonite.

Leia, in love with a smuggler, along with Luke and Chewbacca, fly to the planet Tatooine, where Jabba lives, and free Khan. After that, he becomes a general in the rebel army and helps destroy the new Death Star.

Harrison Ford - actor who played Han Solo

Before becoming the performer of the iconic Star Wars character, this artist was considered an underdog who missed his chance. The fact is that in one of the first serious films where the young man got the role (“Zabriskie Point”), all the frames with his participation were cut out during editing.

Frustrated, the actor decided to leave the profession. However, Harrison was noticed and invited to star in his comedy American Graffiti. Later, Francis Ford Coppola filmed the actor in his film The Conversation. This was followed by several small roles in passing films, and again thinking about leaving the profession of an actor.

Han Solo is the role that made Ford change his mind. By playing this character, which instantly became iconic, Harrison turned into one of the highest paid actors in the world. Now he could choose for himself which projects he would star in. In addition to participating in the next two episodes of the Star Wars epic, the actor played in Apocalypse Now, Hanover Street, Blade Runner, Business Girl, The Fugitive, Sabrina, K-19 and other projects.

Along with the character that made him famous by the name of Han Solo, the Star Wars actor embodied on the screen another hero who has become a cult. This is the archaeologist Henry Jones Jr., nicknamed Indiana. Ford played in four films of this series and there are rumors about the imminent release of the fifth film about the adventures of a resourceful scientist.

As for his personal life, the actor was married three times and is the father of five children.

At the moment, it is not known whether Han Solo will still participate in other films in the series in the upcoming 2018 project. However, viewers are hoping that Ford will play a witty smuggler a few more times, despite the fact that the Star Wars producers have clearly headed for replacement of the main cast with younger actors.

Alden Ehrenreich is the new Han Solo

The actor who will replace Ford as the beloved character of millions will be the budding American Alden Ehrenreich.

Having made his debut in one of the episodes of Supernatural, the talented actor starred in several short films. Later he was noticed by Francis Ford Coppola and filmed in his films "Tetro" and "Between".

Real fame came to the young man after the role of Ethan in Beautiful Creatures. In 2016, he played the main characters in two major projects Hail Caesar! and "Rules do not apply."

Interesting facts

Han Solo was originally supposed to have gills and green skin. Later they wanted to make him one of the Jedi, and only in the last edition did he turn into a desperate smuggler.

The character's name was originally

George Lucas fundamentally did not want to take the actors who played with him earlier into the new project. Harrison Ford, he invited Leia and Luke to audition as an assistant, who was supposed to read Khan's text. However, Lucas liked Ford's performance so much that, contrary to his plans, he approved him for the role of Solo in Star Wars.

According to the books, Han Solo and Princess Leia had three children: a daughter, Jaina, and two sons, Jacen and Anakin. Jacen later followed in his grandfather's footsteps.

Kylo Ren is the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia

Shortly after the events of Episode 7, Han and Leia have a son, Ben. When the boy grew up, he became a Jedi. His mentor was Luke Skywalker. However, young Solo did not share the ideas of his parents - he was obsessed with the greatness of his grandfather (Darth Vader).

Wanting to be on a par with him, the guy chose and, betraying Luke, exterminated many Jedi. Later, the young man took the name of Kylo Ren (he was played by Adam Driver, a young American actor).

Han Solo tried to reason with his son, but he wounded his father and threw him into the mine of the planet Starkiller. Kyle was later defeated by his cousin Rey. But before the destruction of the planet, he managed to escape.

Adam Driver is the actor who played Ben Solo

Many critics, after viewing the new picture from the Star Wars epic, noted the excellent performance of the performer of the role of Kyle Ren. Despite his modest experience in serious projects, this guy was able to play a multi-faceted character that left viewers with mixed feelings about him.

Adam Driver began his career with participation in the Broadway production of Mrs. Warren's Profession. Fame came to him thanks to the role of Adam Sackler in the television series Girls. After that, there was a series of passing roles, until in 2014 he played in Hungry Hearts. For this work, the actor became the winner of the Venice Film Festival in the nomination "Best Actor".

Han Solo's son is a role that has already won Adam several prestigious awards and could set him up for a stunning career in the future. Now Driver is preparing to shoot in the eighth episode of Star Wars.

In the seventh picture of the cycle, the audience said goodbye to one of their favorite characters - Han Solo. Meanwhile, the producers of the project have not yet commented on whether the hero died or whether he managed to escape. Harrison Ford is not on the list of participants in the eighth episode of Star Wars. However, fans do not give up hope that Han Solo will survive and appear in subsequent films.
