Our participation in Eurovision. Eurovision

From Philip Kirkorov to Judith through Alexei Vorobyov and Yulia Savicheva.

Dima Bilan with his first place in 2008 (well, second in 2006) and our grandchildren will remember. Fans of Eurovision will not forget Alsou, Buranovskiye Babushki and Polina Gagarina (second places in 2000, 2012 and 2015). Forever in our hearts are the groups "t.A.T.u" and "Serebro" (third positions in 2003 and 2007).

We decided to once again show you our worst performances at this funny contest - not for the sake of gloating, but ... Well, it's so simple, just for fun.

Important: when we say “worst”, we mean the lowest places taken, which are sometimes worth the most high-profile victories. And sometimes they don't. See and listen for yourself.

1. Philip Kirkorov: 17th place in 1995, Dublin (Ireland).
"Lullaby for the Volcano".

Philip was only the second Russian participant in this celebration of life. He was young and full of desire to tear the audience to hell. To put it mildly, it did not work out - he still did not know the laws and tricks of the competition. Neither the sparkling eyes, nor the jet-black mane of hair, nor even the unbuttoned shirt, exposing a moderately overgrown chest, helped. Everything that worked in Russia was not useful on the Eurovision stage. Yes, and he sang in Russian, mysterious for the European public.

In subsequent years, Philip made up for defeat: his wards more than once came close to victory at Eurovision.

By the way, even the fact that his then fiasco is still the most deafening fiasco of Russia at the competition, once again reminds us that a unique person is unique in everything. The king is always the king!

2. Alexey Vorobyov: 16th place in 2011, Dusseldorf (Germany).
get you

It's a pity that formally Kirkorov performed worst of all and Lesha Vorobyov can only be given the second place in our "top ten". Because the ward of Baroness Katherine von Gechmen-Waldeck, this woman with a nuclear engine, was remembered not only for an amazingly dull performance, rattling out her “hit” as if on one note. Alexey is especially good, for the sake of the show he was briefly renamed Alex Sparrow (“sparrow” in English - a sparrow), was after the first semi-final, when yelled at the camera with all the dope: "This is Russia,<представьте, что тут нецензурное слово>, look into your eyes,<представьте, что тут нецензурное слово>". What greatly amused the audience from the Slavic states.

Gechmen-Waldek also persuaded the Swedish producer Red One, from whom she bought the song, to pretend to be producer Vorobyov. Much has been written about the upcoming world fame of the artist, but so far Alexey is content with roles in Russian TV series and participation in the TNT channel show "The Bachelor".

3. Alla Pugacheva: 15th place in 1997, Dublin (Ireland)
"Diva"

She was the third participant from Russia (after Judith and Kirkorov) and also remained misunderstood by Europe. It is noteworthy that Slovenia unexpectedly awarded 12 points to AB. Austria, the Netherlands, Norway and Estonia fell back a little more. The rest didn't score. It was necessary to have Pugachev's courage in order, being a superstar in the Motherland, to agree to be crucified on this notorious Calvary. But since then, the title "Prima Donna" has been firmly entrenched in Pugacheva herself.

4. Natalia Podolskaya: 15th place in 2005, Kyiv (Ukraine)
Nobody Hurt No One

By this time, Alsou and "t.A.T.u" had already happened and we all, of course, dreamed of victory. Alas.

5. "Mumiy Troll": 12th place in 2001, Copenhagen (Denmark)
Lady Alpine Blue

An interesting attempt to conquer Europe with an unobtrusive rock-pop. Past! But 2 points from interested Malta and a sudden 5 from Iceland.

6. Julia Savicheva: 11th place in 2004, Istanbul (Turkey)
believe me

It seemed that just now ... An incident happened at the performance: the naked dancers covered with paint turned out to be too slippery, Yulia could not, climbing on them, take the position she had learned at rehearsals. Perhaps Yulia was let down by her tender age: she was only 17.

7. Anastasia Prikhodko: 11th place in 2009, Moscow
"Mamo"

After Bilan's triumph, we didn't need a second victory in a row. Apparently, for this reason, a Ukrainian Prikhodko was sent to the competition with a more than ambiguous song about her mother and an even more strange production. Perhaps it was then that the singer began to feel dizzy from success, which led to the fact that now her main occupation is to publicly swear at Russia.

8. Musical group of Peter Nalich: 11th place in 2010, Oslo (Norway)
Lost And Forgotten

If Peter had sung his great “Guitar” at the competition, he could have competed for victory. Alas, you can only sing at Eurovision a new song, but it turned out somehow mournfully. But he sang his own, and not bought at a Swedish hit factory, as the Russian participants do now.

9. "Prime Minister": 10th place in 2002, Tallinn (Estonia)
Northern Girl

There was a time when our producers still believed that they were able to create a Eurohit. The authors of "A Girl from the North" are our songwriters Kim Breitburg and Karen Kavaleryan. It turned out cheerfully and energetically, but the points were given mainly by the neighbors. Well, Malta again got emotional, giving 8 points. Soon the group had a fight with the producer, was forced to change the name and eventually disappeared into the quagmire of show business.

10. Judith: 9th place in 1994, Dublin (Ireland).
"The Eternal Wanderer"

That's whose name is forever inscribed in the tablets of history! 21-year-old Maria Katz became the first Russian woman to go to Eurovision. Yes, the ninth place, but the points were given by the UK (5), Germany (6), Ireland and Iceland (4 each), the Netherlands (5). The text of the song was written by Masha herself, and the music by Lev Zemlinsky. It wasn't a victory, but it was a triumph!

Maria still sings, although she has not become a popularly adored singer. Most often she performs in clubs for a small but adoring audience. Known as a high-class vocal teacher, she worked as a backing vocalist with many famous performers.

The Eurovision International Pop Song Contest is very popular among Russian viewers, and therefore the list of Russian representatives at Eurovision throughout the history of participation is replete not only with the names of young aspiring stars, there were also eminent Russian pop symbols among the participants. Unfortunately, Russia's participation in the competition was far from always successful. In addition, the political moods in the world are subtly reflected at the festival, therefore the artists from Russia did not always receive high scores.

Participation of Russian performers - how it all began

The famous Eurovision festival appeared in 1956. Held among artists from countries included in the list of the European Broadcasting Union, this competition quickly gained popularity. At the moment, it is considered one of the most popular non-sporting events in the world. The song contest is broadcast in many countries not participating in the event and geographically not belonging to Europe. Although there are exceptions, for example, Australia, located far from Europe, but participating in the competition. Want to ?

Russia made its debut at the Eurovision Song Contest far from its very inception, but after as many as 38 years - in 1994. However, before that, Russian viewers were not particularly interested in the European festival. In the 90s, with a new level of development, including in the music industry, the question arose: "Who will be the first representative from Russia in the entire history of Eurovision?".

So, in 1994, the capital of Ireland, where the festival was held, for the first time went to represent the country under the stage name Judith the Beautiful Masha Katz. She performed the ballad of her own composition "The Eternal Wanderer" in English and Russian. Masha then got 9th place. And later, in 1999, according to the results of the audience voting in the UK, the Russian song of Masha Katz was recognized as one of the ten best songs in the history of Eurovision.

Philip Kirkorov

Literally the next year, again in Ireland, whose participants won the Eurovision victory for the third year in a row, Philip Kirkorov performed. Unfortunately, the performance was not a resounding success. Known and loved in all Russian-speaking countries, Philip Bedrosovich sang "Lullaby for the Volcano" and settled in 17th place.

Eurovision participants from Russia - on the way to victory

In 1996, artists from Russia do not take part in the competition, and in 1997 Alla Pugacheva herself goes to Dublin to "take the rap" for her husband. Interestingly, the contest song "Prima Donna" was dedicated to Lyudmila Gurchenko, but the nickname Prima Donna of the Russian stage has since been assigned to Pugacheva herself.

Alla Pugacheva

But, as they say, what is good for a Russian is not like a German. Alla Borisovna was awarded only 15th place. Fortunately, the prima donna was not very upset. The years 1998-99 were skipped, none of the Russian performers were at the festival.

And already in the first year of the third millennium in Stockholm, the young singer Alsou shows very good results, taking 2nd place. In 2001-2002, Mumiy Troll and the Prime Minister performed in Copenhagen and Tallinn, but neither of them managed to rise above the 10th place.

In 2003 there was again something to be proud of. Group t.A.T.u performed excellently and scored a very high score. Ironically, only 3 votes separated them from the first place. But, alas, they "took bronze" - 3rd place.

The next two years were not particularly successful for the Russian representatives. Julia Savicheva in 2004 in Istanbul and Natalia Podolskaya in 2005 in Kyiv they were able to take 11th and 15th positions respectively.

Who went to Eurovision from Russia - later years

In 2006, I went to Athens for the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time and unconditionally took the place of honor No. 2. The following year, Bilan diluted her victorious march, showing a good result - 3rd place. And already in the next 2008, Dima Bilan, who stormed the European scene for the second time, having scored the highest score, took first place and brought Russia a 100% victory at Eurovision. After that, the honor of holding the next annual competition naturally fell to the Russian Federation.

The enchanting holiday, which took place in the hospitable Russian capital, is deservedly recognized as one of the best in the history of the competition. What, alas, cannot be said about the performance Anastasia Prikhodko, which took 8th place. The next two years after the event did not bring much success to the Russian contestants. The group of Peter Nalich, and after that Alexei Vorobyov did not climb higher than 11th place. But in 2012 in Baku, the team "" enchantingly found themselves in the silver place of Eurovision. In the next 2013, Dina Garipova took 5th place, and Sisters Tolmacheva in 2014 settled on the 7th.

All the years after the failed end of the world in 2012 can be called successful for the Russian participants. Indeed, literally until 2016 inclusive, none of them lost ground and did not fall below 7th place, mostly falling into the top five, as in 2015 and 2016.

Let's hope that the victory, despite political squabbles, will again go to ours.

Musical competition "Eurovision"- one of the most popular in our country. According to statistics, every second Russian every year with interest follows the struggle of the contestants, cheering, of course, first of all for his own. PEOPLETALK invites you to remember all the Russian performers who had the honor to represent the country at the competition.

Masha Katz, 1994

In 1994, Russia was represented at the competition by the singer Masha Katz(42). Her performance was the debut of our country on "Eurovision". Masha Katz, better known under the pseudonym Judith, performed with an English-language song "The Eternal Wanderer". The competition then took place in Dublin (Ireland). Bright and charismatic Maria managed to take only the ninth line, which is not so bad for the first time.

In 2004 on "Eurovision" the winner of the youth show went "Star Factory - 2" Yulia Savicheva(28). Because of the intense excitement with which Savicheva could not cope in the first minutes of the performance, the beginning turned out to be weak. However Julia managed to overcome emotions and take 11th place with the song believe me.

Natalia Podolskaya, 2005

Follow Savicheva to conquer Europe another one went "manufacturer"Natalia Podolskaya(33). Song Nobody Hurt No One and 15th place.

In 2006 on "Eurovision" from Russia went Dima Bilan(33). in a desperate struggle Dima still lost first place to a costumed rock band Lordi from Finland. Song Never Let You Go brought Dima and Russia second place.

Silver, 2007

Group Maxim Fadeev "Silver" went to the competition in 2007 for the first place, but the sexy trio took only third. The girls sang a song Song #1.

Dima Bilan, 2008

2008 was a triumphant comeback Dima Bilan(33) on "Eurovision" after an embarrassing defeat in 2006. Determined to win Dima called for the help of the Olympic champion Evgenia Plushenko (32) and famous violinistEdwin Marton (41) . All three sang Believe. Dima was irresistible and Russia finally won the long-awaited victory for the first time.

Anastasia Prikhodko, 2009

Next year Russia represented by the ward Konstantin Meladze (52) − graduate "Star Factory", singer Anastasia Prikhodko (28) . Song "Mamo", performed in Ukrainian, instead of the coveted first place, brought us only 11th.

Musical group of Peter Nalich, 2010

In 2010, he was selected to participate in the competition "Musical group of Peter Nalich". Composition Lost and Forgotten brought again only 11th place.

The singer did not stay aside Alexey Vorobyov (27) who went to "Eurovision" in 2011. Alexey's participation caused a real stir due to an incorrect comment Vorobiev about sexual minorities. As a result, the singer performed extremely unsuccessfully, taking 16th place.

Buranovskiye grandmothers, 2012

In 2012, from Russia to get the championship on "Eurovision" go "Buranovskiye grandmothers". An unusual folklore group from the village of Buranovo in the Malopurginsky district of Udmurtia was considered the favorite of the competition. And indeed, the charismatic grandmothers enchanted the audience by singing the song Party for everybody. Eventually "Buranovskiye grandmothers" took second place.

Diana Garipova, 2013

In 2013 on "Eurovision" the winner of the show went "Voice" Dina Garipova(24). Song What If written by Swedish producers Gabriel Alares and Joachim Bjornberg, brought the country fifth place.

Maria and Anastasia Tolmacheva, 2014

In 2014, the sisters went to the competition Tolmachevs (18) . twins Maria and Anastasia sang a song shine, finishing in seventh place.

And this year our country on "Eurovision" presents a singer with a delightful voice − Polina Gagarina(28). Even before the start of the competition, the bookmakers were recording a song A Million Voices in the favorites, prophesying the singer first place. Whether the forecasts will be confirmed, we will find out soon, but for now we offer to listen again Polina.

Last update: 05/11/2016
