Fictional biography

background

With the help of a mysterious secret formula, high school student Robert Reynolds gained superpowers. After punishing the school bully who got to him, Robert made a suit for himself and began to call himself Sentinel. He was one of the few top-ranking heroes and was active until the appearance of the Fantastic Four. The Sentry was considered one of the most powerful superhumans and thanks to him a new wave of superheroes appeared. Quickly learning the true nature of Spider-Man, the Sentry became a real role model for him, as well as for the X-Men, Reed Richards and the Hulk. Robert even fought alongside the Fantastic Four and the X-Men against Earth's most powerful villains. But one of them, Darkness, he never managed to defeat completely. Over time, he figured out that Darkness, the greatest supervillain he had ever encountered, who had killed more than a million New Yorkers, he created himself. Gloom is his dark essence, which gained self-awareness at the moment when Robert Reynolds first received the powers of the Sentry. Gloom even claimed that at the moment when Robert Reynolds drank the serum, he should have turned into Gloom, and the Sentry was just a "side protective effect" caused by Robert's guilt (later it turned out that they "appeared" at the same time and in fact are two parts of one whole - the Darkness came from Robert's dark and selfish desires - and the Sentry from his desire to be a hero and protect people, even from himself.). Upon learning the truth, the Sentry teamed up with Reed Richards and Doctor Strange to create a device that would erase the memories of the Sentry and the Darkness from the entire population of Earth, including Robert himself. Deprived of memory and forgotten about his superpowers, Robert Reynolds continued to live the gray measured life of an ordinary man in New York, periodically seeing dreams in which he was a superhero.

New Avengers

Reynolds appears as one of the supervillains who is voluntarily imprisoned in The Raft for killing his wife, Lindy Lee. When Electro disables the security system, a massive explosion is heard in the prison, as a result of which 42 criminals go free. While several heroes are catching the escaped villains, Matt Murdoch is talking to the Sentry. The Sentry subsequently protects some of the heroes from Carnage, whom he overpowers in outer space.

Civil War

When the Superhero Registration Act was passed and the conflict broke out between the heroes, the Sentry takes the side of Iron Man. He defeats Wolverine and turns him in to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Afterwards, Sentry leaves Earth and travels to the far side of the Moon, which cannot be seen from Earth. There he talks about how he can easily end the Civil War, if not for his indecision. Robert tries to convince himself that not even the Darkness could stop him from doing so. His thoughts are interrupted by the appearance of the Inhumans, who live in the city of Attillan on the far side of the moon. Shortly before this, the Inhumans declared war on humanity due to the fact that he stole the Terrigen Mists from them in the hope of returning the lost abilities to the mutants. The Inhumans take the arrival of the Sentry as an invasion and engage Reynolds in battle. Realizing that Bob does not wish them harm, they invite him to the palace of Black Bolt to ask the Sentry about the state of affairs on Earth. After dinner is over, Iron Man flies in to fetch Bob. He explains that his goal is not to destroy Captain America and his Secret Avengers, but to make them understand that the world is changing and some changes must be accepted. After some thought, Robert agrees to support Stark and his team of legal heroes.

Back on Earth, the Sentry takes part in the final battle of the Civil War.

Mighty Avengers

The Sentry was recruited by Iron Man to become a member of the Mighty Avengers, the newest incarnation of the Avengers. At first, he disputes this decision in a conversation with his wife, but eventually joins the team. Tony Stark and Ms. Marvel offer to help him control his mental problems. He is described as the most powerful member of the team, yet lacks training and the ability to control his powers. As a rule, the Sentry apologizes for his mistakes.

An enraged Sentry once again engages in battle with Ultron. While the Sentry fights him in close combat, Ares and Ant-Man infect the cyborg with a virus in order to destroy him. The Sentry soon attacks Ultron again, ruining the Avengers' plan by blowing his head off. Upon returning home, he discovers that Lindy is alive. She, in turn, asks Stark to find a way to deprive Bob of his powers or kill him before he hurts himself.

Sentinel helps the team when they attack Latveria. He gets stuck in the past along with Iron Man and Doctor Doom. He falls into a state of shock when he sees himself and the Gloom. He attacks Doctor Doom before Tony explains the situation to him. They arrive at the Baxter Building and, with the help of Reed Richards' time machine, manage to put everything back in place. The sentry incapacitates Doctor Doom and turns Victor in to S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

World War Hulk

By the time he arrived, the Hulk had spared Stark, saying that the Brotherhood of War did not want murder, but justice. Seconds later, the Sentry destroys the Brotherhood's stone spaceship, which has been blocking all satellites in orbit. Bob then starts a fight with the Hulk himself. During the battle, he loses control of himself and releases more and more energy. This amount of energy could destroy all life on Earth. Luckily, the Hulk defeated the Sentry before that happened.

Secret Invasion

When a Skrull spaceship is revealed to have crash-landed in the Savage Land, the Mighty Avengers and the New Avengers arrive there at the same time. Inside the ship are "superheroes" dressed in their classic costumes. During the battle between the two, the Sentry fights the Vision. He turns into Darkness and begins to put pressure on Bob's psyche, because of which he flies away in a panic. During the all-out Skrull invasion, Avengers Mansion is also attacked. The Skrulls attack the Watchtower where Lindy is. However, before they can harm her, Darkness appears and rescues her.

Dark Avengers

Later, the Dark Avengers and the HAMMER arrive in San Francisco to clean up the riots that have broken out. Periodically, the Sentry oversees the riot control while Osborn and his Dark X-Men fight the X-Men, Emma Frost takes back the Gloom's personality to take him out of the fight. Only thanks to Cyclops, who has been married for several years to the most powerful telepath Jean Grey, the X-Men manage to stop the Darkness.

When the Sentry returns home, Lindy shoots him, fearing for his life, but he gets up as if nothing had happened.

The Dark Avengers travel to Dinosaur, Colorado to investigate mysterious disappearances. The sentry disintegrates into molecules as it approaches the city. The team discovers that Molecule Man is the culprit, who disables each of them. Afterwards, Victoria Hand begs the Molecule Man to put everything back the way it was, in exchange for them leaving him alone. To the surprise of many, the Sentry returns and destroys the Molecule Man on his own. He discovers that he himself can control the molecules of his body. Ms. Marvel comes to the conclusion that Scarlet Witch's reality-altering is child's play compared to the threat posed by the Sentry.

After being shot by Lindy, Robert is seemingly killed. She remembers how Bob got his power, mentioning his drug addiction and how he accidentally found the serum. After drinking the serum, Robert destroyed the lab, killing his burglar partner and two guards in the process. Subsequently, he became a superhero, forgetting about his criminal past.

Siege

Robert comes back to life thanks to Gloom. He is preparing to kill Lindy, as he sees her as the main problem. However, Robert gets over his dark essence and flies towards the Sun. In an attempt to kill himself, Sentinel loses to Gloom and he returns him to Earth. He uses his powers to send darkness to the Earth. Osborn tries to reason with Darkness by confirming his existence in Bob's head. He promises him that he will eliminate Lindy, after which the Gloom stops the destruction of the planet.

Rider of Death

Sentinel was resurrected by the Apocalypse Twins along with Banshee, Daken, and the Grim Reaper. Together they became the Horsemen of Death. After being resurrected, Sentinel's madness began to increase and he began to consider himself the heir of the Apocalypse. He attacks the Avengers and captures Thor. After the defeat of the Apocalypse Twins, the Sentry carries Exitar's dead body into the depths of space. Before doing so, he tells Wasp that he was happy to help the Avengers and that a great journey awaits him. He also adds that "the wrath of heaven will be violent."

Powers and abilities

The Sentry's powers are supposedly unlimited and come from a serum that creates a phase-shifting effect in the molecules of his body, meaning that his powers are unlimited. This serum makes him one hundred thousand times stronger than the serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America and is also an upgraded version of Weapon X. In mini-series The Age of the Sentry the Sentry is said to be a cosmic entity, a refugee from another universe that has infiltrated the blood serum.

The limits of his abilities are unknown. He was able to: stop a falling Helicarrier (with the assistance of Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man), easily defeat Terrax and break his weapon, the herald of Galactus, strong enough to split an entire planet in two; destroy the female version of Ultron, break Doctor Doom's defenses. According to Spider-Man, he fought Galactus himself.

He tries to restrain his power, and when it was released, he was even able to overload the Absorber. Sentry fights the Hulk on equal terms and their battle resulted in complete exhaustion and a return to their human forms, after which Bob passed out. One of the Sentinel's most amazing abilities is his high-speed flight. It has been shown to fly from the Earth to the Sun in a matter of seconds, thus surpassing the speed of light. The sentry has a reaction speed inaccessible to any person, he is easily able to catch bullets with his fingers. In addition, as the Sentry moved between different parts of the city in a few seconds, once he flew several tens of kilometers in a split second. According to Nick Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D. could not find a way to kill the Sentry, and Iron Man's scanners found no physical flaws in him.

The sentinel has a connection with the Sunlight, many claim that its power can be compared to the power of a million exploding Suns. In addition, the Sentry is able to project super-powerful energy flows from his body, and from any part of the body, for example, once it was shown how the Sentry emits such a concentrated stream of energy from his eyes that he was able to melt metal. During the fight with the Green Scar, the Sentry emitted energy from his body so strongly that he covered several blocks with it. One day, the Sentry fully charged Iron Man's armor, sending a powerful stream of energy at him.

The Sentry demonstrated that he could resurrect himself after a lethal damage, he was split into molecules twice by the Molecule Man, and once Morgana La Fey destroyed him from the inside with a magic attack, but after such a Sentry easily returned back. In addition, it was shown how the Sentry brings his dead wife back to life.

During a conversation between Lindy, Clock, and Gloom, he hinted that the Sentry's power may come from a cosmic entity, or possibly from a Judeo-Christian God. When Steve Rogers demanded from Osborn that he tell how to defeat the Gloom, he replied that the Sentry is the "Angel of Death" (possibly in a figurative sense). Early biblical recollections also showed that the creature that brought the plagues to Egypt was similar in appearance to Gloom. The Watcher later confirmed that the Sentry is the "Angel of Death" and threatens all of outer space.

Darkness

Gloom is a side effect of the powers of Robert Reynolds. According to Bob, whenever he turns to his power for help, Darkness goes free. In 2009, in the storyline Utopia, The Sentry was temporarily separated from his dark self, which was first absorbed by Emma Frost and then transferred to Scott Summers.

AT siege Darkness is presented as a demon-like creature that can easily defeat Thor, as well as destroy Asgard, kill Loki in an instant, tear Ares in half. Norman Osborn called him the "Angel of Death".

Sometimes the Darkness appears as a completely separate entity from the Sentinel, like a giant monster. He is able to manipulate dark solar energy to create destructive storms. Victims pierced by this energy are drawn to a vision of their past, present, and future. The darkness can also take on various forms, such as a fire demon that breathes fire, an armored monster. Sentinel senses that the Gloom is weakening in the Negative Zone. The simple physical embodiment of the Darkness could not be overcome by joint efforts by such heroes as: the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Inhumans, Namor, Doctor Strange and the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

An excerpt characterizing the Sentry (Marvel Comics)

“Who didn’t tell them to catch me twenty times?” But they will catch me and you, with your chivalry, all the same on an aspen. He paused. “However, the work must be done. Send my Cossack with a pack! I have two French uniforms. Well, are you coming with me? he asked Petya.
- I? Yes, yes, certainly, - Petya, blushing almost to tears, cried out, looking at Denisov.
Again, while Dolokhov was arguing with Denisov about what should be done with the prisoners, Petya felt awkward and hasty; but again he did not have time to understand well what they were talking about. “If big, well-known think like that, then it’s necessary, so it’s good,” he thought. - And most importantly, it is necessary that Denisov does not dare to think that I will obey him, that he can command me. I will certainly go with Dolokhov to the French camp. He can, and I can."
To all Denisov's persuasion not to travel, Petya replied that he, too, was accustomed to doing everything carefully, and not Lazarus at random, and that he never thought of danger to himself.
“Because,” you will agree yourself, “if you don’t know exactly how many there are, life depends on it, maybe hundreds, and here we are alone, and then I really want this, and I will certainly, certainly go, you won’t stop me.” “It will only get worse,” he said.

Dressed in French overcoats and shakos, Petya and Dolokhov went to the clearing from which Denisov looked at the camp, and, leaving the forest in complete darkness, went down into the hollow. Having moved down, Dolokhov ordered the Cossacks accompanying him to wait here and rode at a large trot along the road to the bridge. Petya, trembling with excitement, rode beside him.
“If we get caught, I won’t give myself up alive, I have a gun,” Petya whispered.
“Don’t speak Russian,” Dolokhov said in a quick whisper, and at the same moment a hail was heard in the darkness: “Qui vive?” [Who's coming?] and the sound of a gun.
Blood rushed into Petya's face, and he grabbed the pistol.
- Lanciers du sixieme, [Lancers of the sixth regiment.] - Dolokhov said, without shortening or adding speed to the horse. The black figure of a sentry stood on the bridge.
- Mot d "ordre? [Review?] - Dolokhov held his horse back and rode at a pace.
– Dites donc, le colonel Gerard est ici? [Tell me, is Colonel Gerard here?] he said.
- Mot d "ordre! - Without answering, the sentry said, blocking the road.
- Quand un officier fait sa ronde, les sentinelles ne demandent pas le mot d "ordre ... - Dolokhov shouted, suddenly flushing, running over the sentry with his horse. - Je vous demande si le colonel est ici? [When an officer goes around the chain, sentries do not ask recall… I ask if the Colonel is here?]
And, without waiting for an answer from the guard who stood aside, Dolokhov rode uphill at a pace.
Noticing the black shadow of a man crossing the road, Dolokhov stopped this man and asked where the commander and officers were? This man, with a bag on his shoulder, a soldier, stopped, came close to Dolokhov's horse, touching it with his hand, and simply and friendly told that the commander and officers were higher on the mountain, on the right side, in the farm yard (as he called the master's estate).
Having passed along the road, on both sides of which the French dialect sounded from the fires, Dolokhov turned into the courtyard of the master's house. Having passed through the gate, he dismounted from his horse and went up to a large blazing fire, around which several people were sitting talking loudly. Something was brewing in a cauldron on the edge, and a soldier in a cap and a blue overcoat, kneeling, brightly lit by fire, interfered with it with a ramrod.
- Oh, c "est un dur a cuire, [You can't cope with this devil.] - said one of the officers sitting in the shade on the opposite side of the fire.
“Il les fera marcher les lapins… [He will go through them…],” another said with a laugh. Both fell silent, peering into the darkness at the sound of the steps of Dolokhov and Petya, approaching the fire with their horses.
Bonjour, messieurs! [Hello, gentlemen!] - Dolokhov said loudly, clearly.
The officers stirred in the shadow of the fire, and one, a tall officer with a long neck, bypassing the fire, approached Dolokhov.
- C "est vous, Clement? - he said. - D" ou, diable ... [Is that you, Clement? Where the hell...] - but he did not finish, having learned his mistake, and, frowning slightly, as if he were a stranger, greeted Dolokhov, asking him what he could serve. Dolokhov said that he and his comrade were catching up with his regiment, and asked, addressing everyone in general, if the officers knew anything about the sixth regiment. Nobody knew anything; and it seemed to Petya that the officers began to examine him and Dolokhov with hostility and suspicion. For a few seconds everyone was silent.
- Si vous comptez sur la soupe du soir, vous venez trop tard, [If you are counting on dinner, then you are late.] - said a voice from behind the fire with a restrained laugh.
Dolokhov replied that they were full and that they had to go further into the night.
He handed over the horses to the soldier who stirred in the bowler hat and squatted by the fire next to the officer with the long neck. This officer, without taking his eyes off, looked at Dolokhov and asked him again: what regiment was he? Dolokhov did not answer, as if he had not heard the question, and, lighting a short French pipe, which he took out of his pocket, he asked the officers how safe the road was from the Cossacks ahead of them.
- Les brigands sont partout, [These robbers are everywhere.] - answered the officer from behind the fire.
Dolokhov said that the Cossacks were terrible only for such backward people as he and his comrade, but that the Cossacks probably did not dare to attack large detachments, he added inquiringly. Nobody answered.
“Well, now he will leave,” Petya thought every minute, standing in front of the fire and listening to his conversation.
But Dolokhov began a conversation that had stopped again and directly began to ask how many people they had in the battalion, how many battalions, how many prisoners. Asking about the captured Russians who were with their detachment, Dolokhov said:
– La vilaine affaire de trainer ces cadavres apres soi. Vaudrait mieux fusiller cette canaille, [It's a bad business to carry these corpses around. It would be better to shoot this bastard.] - and laughed out loud with such a strange laugh that it seemed to Petya that the French would now recognize the deception, and he involuntarily took a step back from the fire. No one answered Dolokhov's words and laughter, and the French officer, who was not visible (he was lying wrapped in his greatcoat), got up and whispered something to his comrade. Dolokhov got up and called to the soldier with the horses.
“Will they give horses or not?” thought Petya, involuntarily approaching Dolokhov.
The horses were given.
- Bonjour, messieurs, [Here: goodbye, gentlemen.] - said Dolokhov.
Petya wanted to say bonsoir [good evening] and could not finish the words. The officers whispered something to each other. Dolokhov sat for a long time on a horse that did not stand; then walked out of the gate. Petya rode beside him, wanting and not daring to look back to see whether the French were running or not running after them.
Leaving on the road, Dolokhov did not go back to the field, but along the village. At one point he stopped, listening.
- Do you hear? - he said.
Petya recognized the sounds of Russian voices, saw the dark figures of Russian prisoners by the fires. Going down to the bridge, Petya and Dolokhov passed the sentry, who, without saying a word, walked gloomily along the bridge, and drove out into a hollow where the Cossacks were waiting.
“Well, goodbye now. Tell Denisov that at dawn, at the first shot, - said Dolokhov and wanted to go, but Petya grabbed his hand.
- Not! he yelled, “you are such a hero. Ah, how good! How excellent! How I love you.
“Good, good,” said Dolokhov, but Petya did not let him go, and in the darkness Dolokhov saw that Petya was leaning towards him. He wanted to kiss. Dolokhov kissed him, laughed and, turning his horse, disappeared into the darkness.

X
Returning to the guardhouse, Petya found Denisov in the entryway. Denisov, in agitation, anxiety and annoyance at himself for letting Petya go, was waiting for him.
- God bless! he shouted. - Well, thank God! he repeated, listening to Petya's enthusiastic story. “And why don’t you take me, I didn’t sleep because of you!” Denisov said. “Well, thank God, now go to bed.” Still vzdg "let's eat to utg" a.
“Yes… No,” said Petya. “I don’t feel like sleeping yet. Yes, I know myself, if I fall asleep, it's over. And then I got used to not sleeping before the battle.
Petya sat for some time in the hut, joyfully recalling the details of his trip and vividly imagining what would happen tomorrow. Then, noticing that Denisov had fallen asleep, he got up and went into the yard.
It was still quite dark outside. The rain had passed, but the drops were still falling from the trees. Near the guardroom one could see the black figures of Cossack huts and horses tied together. Behind the hut, two wagons with horses stood black, and a burning fire burned red in the ravine. The Cossacks and hussars were not all asleep: in some places, along with the sound of falling drops and the close sound of horses chewing, soft, as if whispering voices were heard.
Petya came out of the passage, looked around in the darkness, and went up to the wagons. Someone was snoring under the wagons, and saddled horses stood around them, chewing oats. In the darkness, Petya recognized his horse, which he called Karabakh, although it was a Little Russian horse, and went up to her.
“Well, Karabakh, we’ll serve tomorrow,” he said, sniffing her nostrils and kissing her.
- What, sir, do not sleep? - said the Cossack, who was sitting under the wagon.
- Not; and ... Likhachev, it seems to be your name? After all, I just arrived. We went to the French. - And Petya told the Cossack in detail not only his trip, but also why he went and why he thinks that it is better to risk his life than to make Lazarus at random.
“Well, they would have slept,” said the Cossack.
“No, I’m used to it,” Petya answered. - And what, the flints in your pistols are not upholstered? I brought with me. Isn't it necessary? You take it.
The Cossack leaned out from under the truck to take a closer look at Petya.
“Because I’m used to doing everything carefully,” said Petya. - Others, somehow, do not get ready, then they regret it. I don't like that.
“That’s right,” said the Cossack.
“And one more thing, please, my dear, sharpen my saber; blunt ... (but Petya was afraid to lie) she had never been honed. Can it be done?
- Why, maybe.
Likhachev got up and rummaged through his packs, and Petya soon heard the warlike sound of steel on a bar. He climbed onto the wagon and sat on its edge. The Cossack sharpened his saber under the wagon.
- And what, the good fellows sleep? Petya said.
- Who is sleeping, and who is like this.
- Well, what about the boy?
- Is it spring? He was there, in the halls, collapsed. Sleeping with fear. It was glad.
For a long time after that Petya was silent, listening to the sounds. Footsteps were heard in the darkness and a black figure appeared.
- What are you sharpening? the man asked, approaching the wagon.
- But the master sharpen his saber.
“It’s a good thing,” said the man, who seemed to be a hussar to Petya. - Do you have a cup left?
“At the wheel.
The hussar took the cup.
“It’s probably light soon,” he said, yawning, and went somewhere.
Petya should have known that he was in the forest, in the party of Denisov, a verst from the road, that he was sitting on a wagon recaptured from the French, near which horses were tied, that the Cossack Likhachev was sitting under him and sharpening his saber, that a large black spot to the right - a guardhouse, and a bright red spot below to the left - a dying fire, that the man who came for a cup was a hussar who wanted to drink; but he knew nothing and did not want to know it. He was in a magical realm, in which there was nothing like reality. A big black spot, maybe it was definitely a guardhouse, or maybe there was a cave that led into the very depths of the earth. The red spot may have been fire, or perhaps the eye of a huge monster. Maybe he’s definitely sitting on a wagon now, but it’s very possible that he’s not sitting on a wagon, but on a terribly high tower, from which if you fall, you would fly to the ground all day, a whole month - all fly and you will never reach . It may be that just the Cossack Likhachev is sitting under the wagon, but it may very well be that this is the kindest, bravest, most wonderful, most excellent person in the world, whom no one knows. Perhaps it was the hussar who was passing for water and went into the hollow, or perhaps he had just disappeared from sight and completely disappeared, and he was not there.
Whatever Petya saw now, nothing would surprise him. He was in a magical realm where anything was possible.
He looked up at the sky. And the sky was as magical as the earth. The sky was clearing, and over the tops of the trees clouds quickly ran, as if revealing the stars. Sometimes it seemed that the sky was clearing and showed a black, clear sky. Sometimes it seemed that these black spots were clouds. Sometimes it seemed that the sky was high, high above the head; sometimes the sky descended completely, so that you could reach it with your hand.
Petya began to close his eyes and sway.
Drops dripped. There was a quiet conversation. The horses neighed and fought. Someone snored.
“Fire, burn, burn, burn…” whistled the saber being sharpened. And suddenly Petya heard a harmonious chorus of music playing some unknown, solemnly sweet hymn. Petya was musical, just like Natasha, and more than Nikolai, but he never studied music, did not think about music, and therefore the motives that suddenly came to his mind were especially new and attractive to him. The music played louder and louder. The tune grew, passed from one instrument to another. There was what is called a fugue, although Petya had no idea what a fugue was. Each instrument, now resembling a violin, now like pipes - but better and cleaner than violins and pipes - each instrument played its own and, without finishing the motive, merged with another, which began almost the same, and with the third, and with the fourth , and they all merged into one and again scattered, and again merged first into a solemn church, then into a brightly shining and victorious one.
“Oh, yes, it’s me in a dream,” Petya said to himself, swaying forward. - It's in my ears. Or maybe it's my music. Well, again. Go ahead my music! Well!.."
He closed his eyes. And from different sides, as if from afar, sounds trembled, began to converge, scatter, merge, and again everything united into the same sweet and solemn hymn. “Oh, what a delight! As much as I want and how I want,” Petya said to himself. He tried to lead this huge chorus of instruments.
“Well, hush, hush, freeze now. And the sounds obeyed him. - Well, now it's fuller, more fun. More, even happier. - And from an unknown depth rose increasing, solemn sounds. “Well, voices, pester!” Petya ordered. And first, men's voices were heard from afar, then women's. The voices grew, grew in a steady solemn effort. Petya was terrified and joyful to listen to their extraordinary beauty.
A song merged with the solemn victory march, and drops dripped, and burned, burned, burned ... a saber whistled, and again the horses fought and neighed, not breaking the chorus, but entering it.
Petya did not know how long this went on: he enjoyed himself, was constantly surprised at his own pleasure and regretted that there was no one to tell him. Likhachev's gentle voice woke him up.
- Done, your honor, spread the guard in two.
Petya woke up.
“It’s getting light, right, it’s getting light!” he cried.
Previously invisible horses became visible up to their tails, and a watery light was visible through the bare branches. Petya shook himself, jumped up, took out a ruble bill from his pocket and gave it to Likhachev, waved it, tried the saber and put it in its sheath. The Cossacks untie the horses and tighten the girths.
“Here is the commander,” said Likhachev. Denisov came out of the guardhouse and, calling to Petya, ordered to get ready.

Quickly in the semi-darkness they dismantled the horses, tightened the girths and sorted out the teams. Denisov stood at the guardhouse, giving his last orders. The infantry of the party, slapping a hundred feet, advanced along the road and quickly disappeared between the trees in the predawn fog. Esaul ordered something to the Cossacks. Petya kept his horse in line, impatiently waiting for the order to mount. Washed with cold water, his face, especially his eyes, burned with fire, chills ran down his back, and something in his whole body trembled quickly and evenly.
- Well, are you all ready? Denisov said. - Come on horses.
The horses were given. Denisov was angry with the Cossack because the girths were weak, and, having scolded him, sat down. Petya took up the stirrup. The horse, out of habit, wanted to bite his leg, but Petya, not feeling his weight, quickly jumped into the saddle and, looking back at the hussars moving behind in the darkness, rode up to Denisov.
- Vasily Fyodorovich, will you entrust me with something? Please… for God's sake…” he said. Denisov seemed to have forgotten about the existence of Petya. He looked back at him.
“I’ll tell you about one thing,” he said sternly, “obey me and not meddle anywhere.
During the entire journey, Denisov did not say a word to Petya and rode in silence. When we arrived at the edge of the forest, the field was noticeably brighter. Denisov said something in a whisper to the esaul, and the Cossacks began to drive past Petya and Denisov. When they had all passed, Denisov touched his horse and rode downhill. Sitting on their haunches and gliding, the horses descended with their riders into the hollow. Petya rode next to Denisov. The trembling in his whole body grew stronger. It was getting lighter and lighter, only the fog hid distant objects. Driving down and looking back, Denisov nodded his head to the Cossack who was standing beside him.
- Signal! he said.
The Cossack raised his hand, a shot rang out. And at the same moment there was heard the clatter of galloping horses in front, shouts from different directions, and more shots.
At the same moment as the first sounds of trampling and screaming were heard, Petya, kicking his horse and releasing the reins, not listening to Denisov, who shouted at him, galloped forward. It seemed to Petya that it suddenly dawned brightly, like the middle of the day, at the moment a shot was heard. He jumped to the bridge. Cossacks galloped ahead along the road. On the bridge he ran into a straggler Cossack and galloped on. There were some people in front—they must have been Frenchmen—running from the right side of the road to the left. One fell into the mud under the feet of Petya's horse.
Cossacks crowded around one hut, doing something. A terrible cry was heard from the middle of the crowd. Petya galloped up to this crowd, and the first thing he saw was the pale face of a Frenchman with a trembling lower jaw, holding on to the shaft of a pike pointed at him.
“Hurrah!.. Guys…ours…” Petya shouted and, giving the reins to the excited horse, galloped forward down the street.
Shots were heard ahead. Cossacks, hussars, and ragged Russian prisoners, who fled from both sides of the road, all shouted something loudly and incoherently. A young man, without a hat, with a red frown on his face, a Frenchman in a blue greatcoat fought off the hussars with a bayonet. When Petya jumped up, the Frenchman had already fallen. Late again, Petya flashed through his head, and he galloped to where frequent shots were heard. Shots were heard in the courtyard of the manor house where he had been last night with Dolokhov. The French sat there behind the wattle fence in a dense garden overgrown with bushes and fired at the Cossacks crowded at the gate. Approaching the gate, Petya, in the powder smoke, saw Dolokhov with a pale, greenish face, shouting something to people. "On the detour! Wait for the infantry!” he shouted as Petya rode up to him.
“Wait?.. Hurrah!” Petya shouted and, without a single minute's hesitation, galloped to the place where the shots were heard and where the powder smoke was thicker. A volley was heard, empty and slapped bullets screeched. The Cossacks and Dolokhov jumped after Petya through the gates of the house. The French, in the swaying thick smoke, some threw down their weapons and ran out of the bushes towards the Cossacks, others ran downhill to the pond. Petya galloped along on his horse along the manor's yard and, instead of holding the reins, strangely and quickly waved both hands and went further and further from the saddle to one side. The horse, having run into a fire smoldering in the morning light, rested, and Petya fell heavily to the wet ground. The Cossacks saw how quickly his arms and legs twitched, despite the fact that his head did not move. The bullet pierced his head.
After talking with a senior French officer, who came out from behind the house with a handkerchief on a sword and announced that they were surrendering, Dolokhov got off his horse and went up to Petya, motionless, with his arms outstretched.
“Ready,” he said, frowning, and went through the gate to meet Denisov, who was coming towards him.
- Killed?! exclaimed Denisov, seeing from a distance that familiar to him, undoubtedly lifeless position, in which Petya's body lay.
“Ready,” repeated Dolokhov, as if pronouncing this word gave him pleasure, and quickly went to the prisoners, who were surrounded by dismounted Cossacks. - We won't take it! he shouted to Denisov.
Denisov did not answer; he rode up to Petya, dismounted from his horse, and with trembling hands turned towards him Petya's already pale face, stained with blood and mud.
“I'm used to anything sweet. Excellent raisins, take them all,” he remembered. And the Cossacks looked back with surprise at the sounds, similar to the barking of a dog, with which Denisov quickly turned away, went up to the wattle fence and grabbed it.
Among the Russian prisoners recaptured by Denisov and Dolokhov was Pierre Bezukhov.

About the party of prisoners in which Pierre was, during his entire movement from Moscow, there was no new order from the French authorities. This party on October 22 was no longer with the troops and convoys with which it left Moscow. Half of the convoy with breadcrumbs, which followed them for the first transitions, was beaten off by the Cossacks, the other half went ahead; the foot cavalrymen who went ahead, there were none more; they all disappeared. The artillery, which the first crossings could be seen ahead of, was now replaced by the huge convoy of Marshal Junot, escorted by the Westphalians. Behind the prisoners was a convoy of cavalry things.
From Vyazma, the French troops, who had previously marched in three columns, now marched in one heap. Those signs of disorder that Pierre noticed on the first halt from Moscow have now reached the last degree.
The road they were on was paved on both sides with dead horses; ragged people, lagging behind different teams, constantly changing, then joined, then again lagged behind the marching column.
Several times during the campaign there were false alarms, and the soldiers of the convoy raised their guns, fired and ran headlong, crushing each other, but then again gathered and scolded each other for vain fear.
These three gatherings, marching together - the cavalry depot, the depot of prisoners and Junot's convoy - still constituted something separate and integral, although both, and the other, and the third quickly melted away.
In the depot, which had at first been one hundred and twenty wagons, now there were no more than sixty; the rest were repulsed or abandoned. Junot's convoy was also abandoned and several wagons were recaptured. Three wagons were looted by backward soldiers from Davout's corps. From the conversations of the Germans, Pierre heard that more guards were placed on this convoy than on prisoners, and that one of their comrades, a German soldier, was shot on the orders of the marshal himself because a silver spoon that belonged to the marshal was found on the soldier.
Most of these three gatherings melted the depot of prisoners. Of the three hundred and thirty people who left Moscow, now there were less than a hundred. The prisoners, even more than the saddles of the cavalry depot and than Junot's convoy, burdened the escorting soldiers. Junot's saddles and spoons, they understood that they could be useful for something, but why were the hungry and cold soldiers of the convoy standing guard and guarding the same cold and hungry Russians, who were dying and lagging behind the road, whom they were ordered to shoot - it was not only incomprehensible, but also disgusting. And the escorts, as if afraid in the sad situation in which they themselves were, not to give in to the feeling of pity for the prisoners that was in them and thereby worsen their situation, treated them especially gloomily and strictly.
In Dorogobuzh, while, having locked the prisoners in the stable, the escort soldiers left to rob their own shops, several captured soldiers dug under the wall and ran away, but were captured by the French and shot.
The former order, introduced at the exit from Moscow, that the captured officers should go separately from the soldiers, had long been destroyed; all those who could walk walked together, and from the third passage Pierre had already connected again with Karataev and the lilac bow-legged dog, which had chosen Karataev as its master.

Sentry - Biography of the character

Sentry Marvel Comics

Hello guys, imagine a character several times stronger than Superman, not everyone can boast of such strength. But today our hero is calm, our Sentry is our guest, and we begin.

Sentinel - Character origin story

It all started with fashion courier Robert Reynolds delivering an order to Dr. Cornelius' lab, where he discovered a mysterious serum recently prepared by the professor, Robert took it and received the power of a million exploding suns.

One of the organizations of the follower of the project "Sentry" took him under his supervision, and tried to explore his super abilities, but its members could not hold back Reynolds' zeal to help people for a long time, and soon he appeared before humanity in the form of one of the very first super heroes , Sentinel - the golden guardian of goodness.

Sentry was a kind and helpful superhero. Who liked the public, and easily established friendly relations with other superhumans. He was in constant contact with Reed Richards, Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, Professor X, and many other co-workers.

Reynolds also constantly teamed up with different teams of super heroes, so along with:

  • With the Fantastic Four, he fought against Dr. Doom.
  • And thanks to the help of the people of X, he defeated his mortal enemy, the General.
  • The Avengers repeatedly invited him into their ranks, but the Sentry invariably refused, he wanted to help absolutely everyone, and not be a member of any particular team.

Over time, Bob formed his own circle of friends. A young super hero scout became his partner. At
Under mysterious circumstances, the Sentinel has a guard dog with amazing strength. Also, the Golden Guardian met a certain Guardian, whose powers reminded him of his own.

During a fight with one villain, Robert's mask was damaged. So Reynolds became the first of the superheroes, whose real name became known. However, this did not stop him, and the Sentry continued to fight evil, no longer wearing a mask. During the same period, he marries Linda Lee, the girl who became the love of his life.

The wedding was attended by many superheroes, and it became a very memorable event. However, already at this cloudless time, the Sentinel began to have mental problems, which he, at first, did not attach importance to. At this time, more and more often Robert had to deal in the subconscious with a mysterious super villain, nicknamed Gloom.

The General, not resigned to defeat, hired the Master of Mind to deal with the Sentinels. The Mind Master created a mental virus that caused Reynolds to forget his Sentinel career.

Trying to fight the effects of the virus, Bob unknowingly fit into the memories, into the mind of comic book writer Paul Jenkins, who mistook it for his own invention and created a series of comics about the Sentry.

When Bob periodically recalled his life, he was overcome by fear of the devil, that is, Darkness. Every time he attacked the Earth, if he used his super ability. The transformation of the Gloom from a simple super villain into a terrible monster, embodying Robert's worst fears, put an end to his cloudless life.

The Dark nearly killed Scout, drove the Hulk into a frenzy of rage, and wiped out over a million Manhattan residents. After learning that the Darkness was the dark side of his own ability, the Sentry teamed up with Reed Richards and Doctor Strange to create a device that would make the entire population of Earth, including themselves, forget its existence.

And so no one else knew about the Sentinel, he himself did not use his abilities, forgetting about them, and the Darkness disappeared. However, years later, the memory returned to Robert, and along with it returned the Gloom, who made a massacre in Europe, killing many of the European super heroes.

The Sentry contacted his former colleagues, but the only one who remembered him was the Hulk. Fortunately, the heroes all united evenly to protect Bob and New York, because the Darkness was heading there. Sentinel and Reed Richards activated the watchtower, under the influence of which the Gloom was neutralized. And the world again forgot the Golden Guardian.

Sentinel - character abilities

Sentinel has enormous powers, the horn of most of which is not known, his capabilities may exceed the powers of Thor, the Silver Surfer and the Phoenix, and may even be limitless, but he has a fragile psyche and is easily manipulated.

Well guys, I hope you liked this biography, thank you all for your attention!

In the new "Avengers", everyone's favorite, but until recently forgotten comic book character, Sentry, may appear. The most powerful superhero of the Marvel Universe, Robert Reynolds, is known to fans by the nickname Sentry, which he got after his reincarnation as a superman. He first appeared on the pages of comics in 2000. Ten years after being "born", the character died in the Siege comic. However, in June 2018, a new issue of the comic should be released, which will be dedicated to the adventures of the Sentry.

Not so long ago, Robert Reynolds was seen in the comic Loki: The Sorcerer Supreme, which described the confrontation between Doctor Strange and Loki. This gave rise to speculation that the Sentry could become a new character in the cult film. If the fans were not mistaken in their judgments, then the Sentry will indeed be present in the next part of the fantastic action movie.

The story of Robert Reynolds' reincarnation as the Sentinel dates back to 1947. The Canadian government has decided to develop the Super Soldier Serum. Professor Cornelius worked on the project. Reynolds was a regular courier who suffered from methamphetamine addiction. While in search of drugs, Robert Reynolds enters the laboratory of Professor Cornelius and drinks a strange liquid from the table in a bottle.

Instead of a drug attack, a young man receives a power equal in power to "a million exploding Suns." Immediately after that, he sews a superhero costume for himself and takes on the pseudonym Sentinel in honor of the name of the project on which the scientists worked. First of all, the newly minted super-soldier punishes his ill-wishers. After that, Reynolds goes to fight evil.

The powers and abilities of the Sentinel from Marvel Comics

Sentinel is able to control molecules, fly, take almost no damage from blows inflicted by opponents, can fight for a long time and win thanks to his stamina. Superhero abilities are limitless as no one knows if they have a limit.

The most powerful superhero from Marvel comics has only one drawback - a split personality. The sentinel's alter ego is the most dangerous villain in the Gloom Universe, who has destroyed millions of people. The superhero has to isolate himself from the world so as not to harm anyone. He used to be one of the Avengers, but due to his mental breakdown, he decided to leave the battlefield.

Together with Doctor Strange and Reed Richards, they created a device that erased the Sentinel and the entire population of the planet's memories of the superhero. Thus, Robert Reynolds forgot about his abilities and became an ordinary person.

Will the Sentry be in the new Avengers movie?

Fans of The Avengers have speculated that the introduction of a new hero in the comics will entail the introduction of a new character into the storyline of the fourth part of the film. However, there is no confirmation of this information. It remains only to wait for the approaching movie premiere to understand which of the heroes will return after the epic death at the hands of Thanos, and which will appear from the newcomers.

In Loki: The Sorcerer Supreme, the Sentry comes to the aid of Doctor Strange who wants to steal magic from Asgard. With the help of the forces of Robert Reynolds, he managed to lay siege to Asgard.

Doctor Strange contacts the Clockwork Spell Path. Thus, Stephen receives not only the power of a superhero, but also invulnerability. The consequences of fierce fighting are experienced by the Sentry, and not by Doctor Strange himself, but they are nothing to him.

The supreme wizard of the Earth, in an effort to defeat Loki, releases the Darkness. However, this fails and the superheroes are forced to fight against the Darkness again. Ronald Reynolds, in the person of the Sentry, again defeats himself and asks never to disturb him again.

The sequel to this comic will detail the Sentry's struggle against his dark side. Robert gradually begins to understand how he can destroy the Gloom.

Biography

early years

In 1947, the Canadian "Department K" and the remaining members of the Operation: Rebirth teamed up to work on a large-scale joint project "Sentinel" in the hope of not only restoring the Super Soldier Serum formula, but also multiplying its properties. However, after only a few years, the organizational system of the project collapsed, and instead of the Sentinel project, many small organizations were formed, operating in isolation from each other and pursuing different goals. All the research results achieved at that time were in the hands of these organizations, as well as numerous individuals.

Many years later, a young courier, Robert Reynolds, was delivering an order to Professor Cornelius' laboratory, where he discovered a mysterious luminous serum that the Professor had recently prepared. Robert accepted it and received the Power of a Million Exploding Suns. One of the organizations that followed the project "Sentry" took Bob under their supervision and tried to explore his superpowers, but its members could not hold back Reynolds' zeal to help people for a long time, and soon he appeared before humanity in the form of one of the very first superheroes - the Sentry, the Golden Guardian Of good.

Age of the Sentry

The Sentry was a kind, sympathetic and optimistic hero who was liked by the public and easily formed friendships with other superhumans. He constantly kept in touch with Reed Richards (Reed Richards), Iron Man (Iron Man), Hulk (The Hulk), Spider-Man, Professor X and many other "colleagues". Despite the fact that Bob figured out the secret of the Spider's identity almost instantly, the young hero considered the Golden Guardian a role model and sincerely admired him. The sentry was the only one who always managed to calm the Hulk, no matter how furious he was. Reynolds also constantly teamed up with various teams of superheroes: for example, together with the Fantastic Four, he fought against Doctor Doom, and with the help of the X-Men, he defeated his mortal enemy The General. The Avengers repeatedly invited him into their ranks, but the Sentry invariably refused. He wanted to help absolutely everyone, and not be a member of any particular team.

Over time, Bob formed a circle of close friends. The young superhero Scout became his partner. Under mysterious circumstances, the Sentinel has a Watchdog with amazing powers. Also, the Golden Guardian met a certain Guardian (Sentress), whose powers resembled his own.

During a fight with one of the villains, Robert's mask was damaged, and the secret of his identity was revealed. So Reynolds became one of the first heroes whose real name became public knowledge. However, this did not stop him, and the Sentry continued to fight evil, no longer wearing a mask.

During the same period, he married Lindy Lee, the girl who became the love of his life. Their wedding was attended by many superheroes, and it became a very memorable event.

Already at this cloudless time, the Sentinel began to have mental problems, to which he did not attach any importance at first. During his birthday celebration, he suddenly saw both Sergeant Nick Fury as he was at that time - a dashing warrior and leader of the Howling Commandos - and as he became a few years later - the battle-hardened one-eyed director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I.T.a. In addition, more and more often Robert had to deal with a mysterious supervillain nicknamed Gloom.

Darkness

The General, not resigned to defeat, hired the Mastermind to deal with the Sentinel. The Mind Master created a mental virus that caused Reynolds to forget his Sentinel career. In an attempt to combat the effects of the virus, Bob unknowingly planted his memories into the mind of comic book writer Paul Jenkins, who mistook them for his own invention and created the Sentinel comic book series. When Bob periodically recalled his life, he was overcome by fear of the "devil", that is, the Darkness, who attacked the Earth every time he used his superpowers.

The transformation of the Gloom from a simple supervillain into a terrible monster, embodying Robert's worst fears, put an end to his cloudless life. The Dark nearly killed Scout, drove the Hulk into a frenzy, and wiped out over a million Manhattan residents. After learning that the Darkness was the dark side of his own abilities, the Sentry teamed up with Reed Richards and Doctor Strange to create a device that would make the entire population of Earth, including themselves, forget its existence. So, no one else knew about the Sentry, he himself did not use his abilities, having forgotten about them (although sometimes Robert had dreams in which he was a superhero), and the Darkness disappeared.

Years later, the memory returned to Robert, and with it the Gloom returned, who made a massacre in Europe, killing many of the European Superheroes (Super-Heroes of Europe, SHE). The Sentry contacted his former colleagues, but the only one who remembered him was the Hulk. Luckily, the heroes banded together anyway to protect Bob and New York, because that's where the Darkness was heading. Sentinel and Reed Richards activated the Watchtower, under the influence of which the Gloom was neutralized, and the world again forgot the Golden Guard.

Raft

Later, the memories partially returned to the Sentry, and he turned to the service of S.H.I.E.L.D. (S.H.I.E.L.D.) requesting that he be arrested for the murder of his own wife. Robert was placed in the Raft supervillain prison. The Watchtower was still active, and soon even the prison staff forgot about it.

Lawyer Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, somehow found out about the strange prisoner and decided to find out if he really was the killer. Together with his friend and partner Foggy Nelson, bodyguard Luke Cage and SHIELD agent Jessica Drew (aka Spider-Woman), he arrived at the Raft to talk with Robert. But their conversation did not take place. Just minutes after Murdoch's arrival, the Raft was attacked by the villain Electro, hired by the criminal organization The Hand. A mass escape of prisoners began.

Daredevil, Luke Cage and Spider-Woman, as well as Spider-Man, Iron Man and Captain America, who arrived at the scene, fought the villains. Meanwhile, Foggy Nelson comes face to face with the bloodthirsty psychopathic killer Carnage. At that moment, the Sentry, who was still sitting motionless in his cell, grabbed Carnage, flew with him through the nine floors of the prison and carried the monster into orbit, where he tore it in half.

The superheroes were delighted that they were able to suppress the riot very effectively (some of the prisoners, however, escaped) and decided to form the New Avengers team. Reynolds left before being asked to join, but now the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. became interested in him, because they were afraid of repeating the story with the Scarlet Witch, because of which the former team broke up.

The truth about the past

Returning to heroic activity, the Sentry soon became everyone's favorite again, the Golden Guardian of Good, saving hundreds of lives every day. But his mental state worsened. Unable to come to terms with the fact that Bob Reynolds, the Sentry, and Darkness were the same person, Robert kept Darkness imprisoned at the base of the Watchtower. Reynolds' assistant robot K.L.O.K. (C.L.O.C.) summoned Professor Cornelius, who, upon entering the place of Gloom's detention, found only a chair and a mirror there. When Cornelius informed Bob about this, he became embarrassed and silently flew to the laboratory where he had once received his powers.

The Professor followed him into the lab, where he found Sentinel and Darkness fighting. Gloom claimed that by taking the serum, Reynolds turned into him, and not into the Sentinel. The sentry was allegedly a side effect of this transformation, arising out of guilt. The Golden Guardian at that moment only had half of his memory (and the other half went to Gloom), so he didn't know for sure if this was true. The Sentry chased Darkness away and then explained to the Professor why Reynolds had made him his primary identity. It turns out that Bob subconsciously wanted someone to confront the Darkness and make people aware of its existence so that Reynolds would no longer have to hide that side of himself.

The Sentry told Cornelius that he had actually obtained his powers by stealing his serum in hopes of improving his system. He also said that he, the Sentry, was well aware that the Darkness was not imprisoned in the Watchtower, but while Robert believed that the Sentry also believed in the capture of the monster, he was indeed neutralized and did not pose a threat to the world.

The Sentry then turned to Doctor Strange for help. The Sorcerer Supreme wanted to avoid the destruction Bob could cause. Therefore, he deceived Reynolds, sending him to an illusory world where superheroes did not exist, and Robert was an ordinary psychoanalyst patient. The sentry was freed from the illusion and went to Antarctica, where he met the Darkness again and was able to find out what memories of him got to the monster. Then, after a battle with Gloom, the Sentry threw him into the Sun. Darkness promised to return.

New Avenger

After some time, the Avengers found Bob and informed him that Lindy, for whose murder he was in prison, was alive, and the only evidence of the Sentry's existence was Paul Jenkins' comics. Without answering, the Sentry fled. He was soon discovered at his home in the guise of Robert Reynolds. The Avengers and SHIELD agents came to him again, as well as the X-Men and the Inhuman Royal Family. Robert was horrified and began to shout that nothing would stop the Darkness now. Superheroes were indeed immediately attacked by the Darkness. Then they placed the Sentry and Emma Frost in a multi-layered protective sphere, consisting of the Invisible Woman's force field, Doctor Strange's magical sphere, and Iron Man's electromagnetic field. While the heroes fought the Darkness, inside the shell, Emma Frost penetrated Bob's mind and was able to unlock some of the memories that remained inaccessible. It turned out that everyone had forgotten the Sentinel, not because of his own attempts to cope with the Darkness, but because of the manipulations of the Master of the Mind.

Suddenly, the Darkness disappeared, and almost all of Bob's memory returned. The New Avengers invited the Sentinel to join them (partly to keep an eye on Robert, partly in case his power was needed), and he readily agreed. At this time, the Watchtower ceased to be invisible to people and ended up on the roof of Stark Tower.

When the Scarlet Witch changed reality, in the new universe, Robert did not have any superpowers and was a patient of the psychoanalyst Stephen Strange. Reynolds complained that he was tormented by dreams in which he is a superhero. The M-Day crisis was resolved without Sentinel's involvement.

Civil War

When the Superhuman Registration Act (SHRA) was passed and a conflict broke out between the heroes, the Sentry left the Earth and went to the far side of the Moon, which cannot be seen from our planet. There he talked about how he could have easily ended the Civil War if not for his indecisiveness. Robert tried to convince himself that not even the Darkness could stop him from doing so. His thoughts were interrupted by the appearance of the Inhumans, who live in the city of Attillan on the far side of the moon. Shortly before this, the Inhumans declared war on humanity due to the fact that Quicksilver stole the Terrigen Mists from them in the hope of returning the lost abilities to the mutants. The arrival of the Sentinel was taken by the Inhumans for an invasion and entered into battle with Reynolds. However, realizing that Bob did not wish them harm, they invited him to the Black Bolt Palace to ask the Sentinel about the state of affairs on Earth. When the gala dinner was over, Iron Man flew in for Bob. He explained that his goal was not to destroy Captain America and his Secret Avengers, but to make them understand that the world is changing and some changes must be accepted. On reflection, Robert agreed to support Stark and his team of legal heroes. Back on Earth, the Sentry took part in the final battle of the Civil War.

Mighty Avenger

Although it took him some time to reach an agreement with his wife, Robert joined the official Avengers team when Iron Man and Ms. Marvel promised him help with his psychological problems. He became the most powerful member of this team. True, due to the lack of proper practice in handling superpowers, he often became the culprit of unpleasant incidents: once he almost destroyed a building, and on another occasion he almost pierced a S.H.I.E.L.D. Transporter.

Very soon after the formation of the team, Tony Stark was turned into a female version of Ultron. The Sentinel fought the robot, but neither of them could come out victorious. Then Ultron decided to act differently: to kill Lindy in order to piss off Bob. Ares and Hank Pym shrunk down to microscopic size in order to get inside Ultron and infect him with the virus, but Reynolds nearly thwarted their plan by trying to rip the robot's head off. Before he could do so, he was stunned by Ms. Marvel. When the Avengers defeated Ultron, the Sentry went to his Watchtower. It is not known exactly what happened next. It is likely that he revived Lindy with a simple touch.

Literally the next day, New York was attacked again. Appeared great amount symbiotes that infected almost the entire population of the city, including some of the New and Mighty Avengers. The sentinel had to fight the infected Wasp, which had grown to enormous size. Iron Man managed to create an antidote, which in a matter of minutes returned the townspeople to normal, and also found out that the attack was carried out by none other than Doctor Doom.

Mighty Avengers went to Latveria and entered into battle with its ruler. In an unfortunate accident, a time machine was activated and Doctor Doom, Iron Man, and the Sentry were thrown several years back in time. To return, they had to use the technology of the Fantastic Four.

World War Hulk

When the Hulk and his Brotherhood of War (Warbound) attacked Earth, the superheroes immediately turned to the Sentinel for help. However, Bob flatly refused to leave the house. Iron Man tried to persuade him, but to no avail. Robert watched on TV how the Hulk defeated the heroes one by one, how he built the Arena in Madison Square Garden and how he made the Illuminati fight each other. All this time, numerous heroes, the Fantastic Four, as well as the President of the United States, turned to him for help, but Reynolds did not answer them. But at the moment when Reed Richards was ordered to kill Tony Stark, the Sentry suddenly took off and went to the Arena.

By the time he arrived, the Hulk had spared Stark, saying that the Brotherhood of War did not want murder, but justice. Seconds later, the Sentinel destroyed the Brotherhood's stone spaceship, which was blocking the operation of all satellites in orbit. Bob then began to fight the Hulk himself. During the battle, he lost control of himself and began to release more and more energy. This amount of energy could destroy all life on Earth. Luckily, the Hulk defeated the Sentry before that happened.

Secret Invasion

During the invasion of the Skrull Empire, Bob, along with the other Mighty and New Avengers, went to the Savage Land (Savage Land), where an alien starship was discovered. Inside the ship were numerous copies of earthly superheroes. The sentinel fought the Skrull Vision when he took on the form of the Gloom. Bob was terribly frightened and flew off the Earth in a panic. After spending several hours battling his inner demons near the rings of Saturn, Robert returned, this time in the form of Darkness. Reynolds discovered that one of the Super-Skrulls had infiltrated the Watchtower and threatened Lindy. No changes in appearance helped this Skrull: Bob dealt with him. Lindy was deeply depressed to see that Robert could do more as a Darkness than as a Sentinel.

Dark avenger

Norman Osborn visited Bob shortly after the Invasion. He offered him his help in the fight against the Darkness, on the condition that the Sentry join the new team of Avengers. Osborn convinced Bob that there is no Darkness, there is only an illusion created by Reynolds due to the fact that he rejected his human essence. He said that Bob could get rid of his problems if he felt like an ordinary person again, eating, drinking, sleeping, breathing air, etc. Although Robert did not need all this, he decided to follow Osborne's advice and really felt better. Most likely, the so-called placebo effect took place here: the Sentry really wanted to believe that such a simple advice would save him from Gloom.

In addition, Norman obtained for Bob the formula of the serum that had once bestowed his powers. Now Reynolds could take the serum again at any time. It is not known what effect it now had on his body. She may have enhanced the Sentinel's abilities.

During their first mission, Osborn's Avengers had to defeat the sinister Fairy Morgan (Morgan le Fay). The sentry blew off Morgana's head, but she returned and killed Robert. After a long battle, the Avengers were able to deal with the witch and returned to New York. As they flew up to Avengers Tower, the sentry appeared unharmed in a flash of light, much to the surprise and concern of his teammates.

Osborne kept reminding Bob that there is no Darkness. However, he soon asked the Sentinel to unleash the Darkness and destroy the Atlantean terrorist organization.

During the confrontation between the real X-Men and Osborn's team of the same name, Emma Frost again decided to help Robert. She placed Darkness in her own mind and tried to keep him there under strict control. Unfortunately, the Darkness soon escaped and again began to torment the Sentinel. When Bob returned home, Lindy suddenly pointed a gun at him. She explained to her husband that she was afraid of him and was even more scared when Bob did not want to let her go. With these words, she shot Robert.

Triumph of Darkness

C.L.O.K., the Sentinel's robot assistant, kept in his memory the entire history of this hero. Lindy turned on a recording of the story of Bob's superpowers, which she herself knew well. In fact, Robert was a drug addict who, along with his buddies, broke into Cornelius' laboratory in search of illegal drugs. Bob took the serum, mistaking it for a drug, and turned into Sentinel, and in the process of transformation, an explosion occurred that destroyed the laboratory and killed the rest of the thieves.

When Lindy married Bob, she was overjoyed that her husband was a superhero. Over time, she learned the truth about his appearance, but did nothing. Now, sitting over her husband's body, Lindy felt it was worth killing him during their wedding night.

Reynolds came back to life in the guise of Gloom, who tried to kill Lindy. The sentry began to resist him again and flew off into space. In a desperate attempt to kill himself along with Gloom, Robert flew through the Sun, but survived. Gloom demanded to transfer control over the body to him, arguing that the Sentinel never manages to cope with him, and he, Gloom, always achieves his goal. Bob agreed.

Darkness returned to Earth and almost destroyed New York. Luckily, Norman Osborn convinced him to stop in time. Shortly thereafter, Osborn ordered Hawkeye (actually Bullseye) to kill Lindy. Shocked by her death, the Sentry was more and more inferior to the Gloom, while he, on the contrary, was delighted and full of strength.

During the Siege of Asgard, the Sentinel fought Thor for almost the entire battle. By this time, he had completely withdrawn into himself, and it was impossible to determine whether there was at least something of the Golden Guardian of Good left in him. He even killed Ares, whom he managed to become friends with while working in the Avengers teams. On Osborn's first order, Reynolds broke through the foundations of Asgard, and most of the city of the gods was destroyed. When the superheroes got out from under the ruins, the Darkness appeared before them, which nevertheless completely absorbed the personality of Robert Reynolds. Loki used the power of the Norn Stones to protect the heroes, but he himself died in battle with the Gloom. To defeat the monster, Iron Man used the M.O.L.O.T. Transporter (H.A.M.M.E.R. Helicarrier) as a giant projectile. Bob returned to his human form, but felt that he could not contain the Gloom for long, and asked to be killed. The heroes refused, as they believed the Sentry should be held accountable for their crimes. But the Darkness had already begun to retake control of Robert, and Thor had to kill him. The Thunderer wrapped the body in the cloak of the Sentinel, took it to the Sun and burned it there. At the same moment, the Watchtower on the roof of the Avengers Tower disappeared.

Although there was no body left, the grave of Robert and Lindy Reynolds was arranged in one of the New York cemeteries. K.L.O.K. told Reed Richards that he would restore the Watchtower in another place in case the owner returned, but now even Bob's best friends would not be allowed there.

Some time after the funeral, people closest to Robert Reynolds came to his grave. Scout, Tony Stark, the Fantastic Four and some of the X-Men come together to remember Robert Reynolds. Although in the end he was unable to cope with the Darkness, everyone remembered him primarily as the Golden Guardian of Good.

Powers and abilities

Forces

Chemically altered physiology: Sentinel's body was altered by an experimental serum. In theory, the result should have been a thousand times greater than the powers given to Captain America by the Super Soldier Serum. In practice, the serum has created a phase shift in its molecules, causing each atom to move to a moment before the current timeline. The serum also triggered a photosynthesis reaction (naturally only found in plants) in the brain, greatly increasing Robert's intelligence. The limits of the Sentinel's abilities are unknown. He is said to have the Power of a Million Exploding Suns, and has demonstrated numerous powers that resemble or even surpass those of Superman. Robert's powers fluctuate depending on his psychological state, but no definite patterns have been identified here. Sometimes the Darkness can outperform the Sentinel, sometimes Bob needs to be extremely calm and focused to use the full power of his abilities, and sometimes he succeeds when he is scared and depressed.

  • Invulnerability: The sentry is almost invulnerable to any damage. He survived after unimaginable loads, and even flying through the Sun. Top S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists tried unsuccessfully to find any weaknesses in him. Couldn't figure out any way to defeat him and Iron Man. Thor only managed to kill Robert because he succumbed.
  • Photokinesis: There is speculation that the Sentinel can create solid objects from light, similar to how Dazzler does. However, he used this ability only unconsciously, creating a separate body for Gloom.
  • Light control: By consciously controlling the light it produces, Bob can change its direction, frequency (color), amplitude (intensity), and duration. It can create various lighting effects: surround itself with a halo or generate flashes of several thousand watt-seconds that blind the enemy. In addition, with the help of special outbreaks, he managed to pacify the rage of the Hulk.
  • Energy shots: The Sentinel is able to generate light, heat, power and other forms of energy in the form of powerful energy shots and yellow explosions. The maximum power of this ability is unknown. Once, having lost control over her, Bob almost destroyed all life on Earth.
  • Powerful psionic abilities: It is unknown if the Sentry can consciously use them in the same way as Professor X and other telepaths, but he managed to place his memories in the mind of Paul Jenkins, as well as erase the memory of himself from the entire population of the globe.
  • Healing: Apparently, the Sentry can bring the dead back to life if he is in a state of severe emotional distress. When Ultron killed his wife, Lindy, Reynolds brought her back to life with a single touch. Apparently, he has no control over this ability.
  • Molecule management: Confronted by Molecule Man, the Sentry discovered that he could manipulate the molecules of any substance. The extent of this power is unknown.

Capabilities

Genius Intelligence: Robert is very smart. He has extensive experience in mechanics, architecture, mechanical engineering, energy tracking, cybernetics, robotics and computer science.

Experienced Fighter: Robert's fighting skills are above the average human.

Power Level

Grade 100+. The Sentinel possesses vast powers, the threshold of most of which is unknown. His abilities may exceed the powers of Thor, the Silver Surfer and the Phoenix, or they may even be limitless.

Weaknesses

Mental pressure: Sentry has a fragile psyche and is quite easy to manipulate.

Negative Zone: Sentinel is rapidly weakening in the Negative Zone, and his health is also deteriorating. According to him, Darkness rules in the Negative Zone.

Last appearance

  • Simultaneously with the release of the first comic book about the Clockwork, Wizard magazine published an article stating that screenwriter Paul Jenkins was not the first to come up with this character. The article featured a sketch purportedly made by Artie Rosen for an unpublished comic "Startling Stories". In 1961, shortly before the creation of the Fantastic Four, Stan Lee planned to launch this series, in the first issue of which Robbie Reynolds, aka the Sentry, was to appear, a hero strongly reminiscent of Superman. The comic never came out, and the Sentry was forgotten for almost forty years. After the death of Artie Rosen, a box was delivered to the editors of MARVEL in which the artist kept his sketches. Paul Jenkins was inspired by the image of a forgotten hero of an unpublished comic book and came up with a story about the Sentry, a superhero who was forgotten by the entire population of the Earth. However, later it turned out that Stan Lee and Artie Rosen did not invent any Sentry, and the whole article was an ordinary newspaper duck, designed to attract the attention of readers.
  • The origin story of the Sentinel has been rewritten several times. Initially, we were introduced to Robbie Reynolds, who worked as an assistant in the laboratory of a certain Professor and took a mysterious serum to become stronger and not give offense to school bullies. It was then revealed that Robert was a thief who broke into the lab and took the serum out of curiosity. The lab itself has been linked to the Weapon X and Operation Rebirth programs. Finally, in the Age of the Sentry comic, we were able to see courier Bob Reynolds taking a serum to stop a Soviet nuclear missile. After that, he became involved with the serum's inventor, Professor Cornelius, who may or may not be the same Professor Cornelius who was involved in some of the Weapon X experiments.
  • Just as the Super Soldier Serum bestowed superpowers only on Captain America and does not work on anyone else, the serum that Robert took is deadly to everyone except himself.

Story
Biography

early years
In 1947, the Canadian "Department K" and the remaining members of the Operation: Rebirth teamed up to work on a large-scale joint project "Sentinel" in the hope of not only restoring the Super Soldier Serum formula, but also multiplying its properties.

Robert was
imprisoned for supervillains "Raft".

The truth about the past Returning to heroic activity, the Sentinel soon became everyone's favorite again, the Golden Guardian of Good, saving hundreds of lives every day.

They came to him again The Avengers and SHIELD agents, as well as the X-Men and the Inhuman Royal Family.

Civil War (more)When the Superhuman Registration Act (SHRA) was passed and the conflict broke out between the heroes, the Sentry left the Earth and went to the far side of the Moon, which cannot be seen from our planet.

The Mighty Avenger Although it took him a while to reach an agreement with his wife, Robert joined the official Avengers team when Iron Man and Ms.

A huge number of symbiotes appeared, which infected almost the entire population of the city, including some of the New and Mighty Avengers.

Secret Invasion (more)During the invasion of the Skrull Empire, Bob, along with other Mighty and New Avengers, went to the Savage Land (Savage Land), where an alien starship was discovered.

The Dark Avenger Norman Osborn visited Bob shortly after the Invasion.

When Bob returned home, Lindy suddenly pointed a gun at him. She explained to her husband that she was afraid of him and was even more scared when Bob did not want to let her go. With these words, she shot Robert.

Powers and abilities
Forces

Chemically Altered Physiology: The Sentry's body was altered by an experimental serum. He is said to have the Power of a Million Exploding Suns, and he has demonstrated numerous powers that resemble Superman's abilities, or even surpass them.

Superhuman Strength: The Sentry possesses unimaginable physical strength. He has shown some amazing displays of this power: lifting a huge weight (far exceeding the classic 100-ton figure), tearing Carnage in half (although it is not known for sure if the monster died), holding the Terrax the Tammer Space Ax (Terrax the Tammer), lifting and easily holding a cruise a liner with passengers on board, and even when the Absorbing Man tried to absorb his powers, he was overloaded. In the form of the Darkness, he broke the Hulk's limbs with relative ease, and, having defeated Ares in the fight, he was able to kill him. It can also absorb solar radiation. This does not affect the power of his energy abilities, but significantly increases his physical strength. His recent encounter with the Green Scar, the most powerful incarnation of the Hulk, has shown that the Sentry can safely be classified as one of the group of the most powerful superhumans. Although he lost in battle, the victory was not easy for the Green Goliath.
Superhuman Speed: The Sentry is able to think, move, and react at incredible speeds. When the Punisher attempted to assassinate Norman Osborn and fired at him from a kilometer away with a rifle created using the best technology of the Skrull Empire, Robert managed to catch the bullet with his fingers. On Earth, he was often seen developing supersonic speeds, and he also repeatedly flew into orbit (for this you need to accelerate faster than 11 km / s). In addition, it has been depicted many times as it covers the distance from the Earth to the Sun in a few seconds, while sunlight reaches the Earth in only 8 minutes. This suggests that the Sentry can either reach FTL (for example, flying along cosmic strings) or move in hyperspace. It is possible (although not proven) that Robert is able to teleport: to avoid a difficult conversation with the New Avengers, he disappeared in a flash of light.
Superhuman Stamina: The Sentinel's muscles do not produce lactic acid or fatigue toxins. As a result, in an unbalanced state, Bob can operate at the peak of his abilities for about a week, and in a calm state he never gets tired at all. In addition, he does not need food, breathing and sleep.
Superhuman Agility: The Golden Guardian's natural balance, coordination, and agility are far beyond the limits of a human.
Superhuman Senses: The sentinel's senses are remarkably advanced. He can hear sound of any volume and tone. The only creature that can hear on the same frequencies as the Sentinel is the blue whale (0.01-200,000 Hz). Bob is able to focus his attention on any particular source, even the faintest sound, without noticing what drowns it out: he demonstrated this when he heard the heartbeat of a butterfly in Africa. The range of his vision is also significantly higher than that of a human. Robert can detect a single person from hundreds of kilometers up while looking through several layers of clouds. Flight: It remains unknown how the Sentry flies. In flight, he develops tremendous speed, which was discussed above.
Invulnerability: The sentry is nearly invulnerable to any damage.
Photokinesis: There is speculation that Sentinel can create solid objects from light, similar to Dazzler. However, he used this ability only unconsciously, creating a separate body for Gloom.
Light Control: By consciously controlling the light he produces, Bob can change its direction, frequency (color), amplitude (intensity), and duration. It can create various lighting effects: surround itself with a halo or generate flashes of several thousand watt-seconds that blind the enemy. In addition, with the help of special outbreaks, he managed to pacify the rage of the Hulk.
Energy Shots: The Sentry can generate light, heat, power, and other forms of energy in the form of powerful energy shots and yellow-colored explosions. The maximum power of this ability is unknown. Once, having lost control over her, Bob almost destroyed all life on Earth.
Powerful Psionic Abilities: It is unknown if the Sentry can consciously use them in the same way as Professor X and other telepaths, but he managed to place his memories in the mind of Paul Jenkins, as well as erase the memory of himself from the entire population of the globe.
Healing: Apparently, the Sentinel can bring the dead back to life if he is in a state of severe emotional distress. When Ultron killed his wife, Lindy, Reynolds brought her back to life with a single touch. Apparently, he has no control over this ability.
Molecule Manipulation: When confronted by Molecule Man, the Sentry discovered that he could manipulate the molecules of any substance. The extent of this power is unknown.

Capabilities
Genius Intelligence: Robert is very intelligent. He has extensive experience in mechanics, architecture, mechanical engineering, energy tracking, cybernetics, robotics and computer science.
Skilled Combatant: Robert's combat skills exceed those of the average human.
Power Level
Grade 100+. The Sentinel possesses vast powers, the threshold of most of which is unknown. His abilities may exceed the powers of Thor, the Silver Surfer and the Phoenix, or they may even be limitless.
WeaknessesPsychic Pressure: The Sentry has a fragile psyche and is fairly easy to manipulate.
Negative Zone: Sentinel is rapidly weakening in the Negative Zone, and his health is also deteriorating. According to him, Darkness rules in the Negative Zone.
