To earn money for recording, from 1987 to 1995 he worked: as an arranger, concert administrator, and also as an instructor in hand-to-hand combat in a security structure ... Then he had to go through what many will later talk about from his songs... In the summer of 1997, Vladimir started working on his new project, which he called "The Ace of the Cross" (according to the first card in the deck, which he bought at the Yaroslavsky railway station in Moscow...). In order to record and release the first album "KT", he sold the car and the garage, and for almost a year he lived almost starving, recording all the songs himself ... The people with whom he wanted to create a group, then could not take part in it, and only the name "Cross Ace" remained ... The first song of the project was "School Friends", and the second, because of which he became famous - "Wolves", it is presented on the album "Lucky Life". In 1997, she appeared in the collection of the company "Classic Company" "Wolf's Share". When Vladimir (no one knew him then) called the Classic Company and said that he would bring them a song, and after listening to it, they would most likely put this song in the title track collection, they did not take him seriously, answering, that they are unlikely to take the song of an unknown author in such an "authoritative" collection. Approximately 90% of all today's musical production is such background music, consisting of equally fashionable "format" rhythms and a set of words: "Like, without you, I'm somehow not in a high somewhere, come to me quickly, until you sit down "battery" (or something like that). It seems that all these songs are written exclusively for Beavis and Bat-Head (or their relatives). There are, of course, bright sparks, but, unfortunately, they are very few Therefore, when you listen to the song, and you get goosebumps, you involuntarily get some kind of nostalgic, almost forgotten feeling of "sucking in the pit of your stomach", you understand - the song "catches", and for a long time! This is a hit, "imperishable" , as they said before, I want to listen to it again and again ... There is something in these songs that touches the heart and soul, which has become coarsened over the past, oh, what difficult years ...
It was these associations that arose when I listened to many songs by Vladimir Kozyrev, better known as the author of the "ACE OF THE CROSS" project ...

-Vladimir, why such a strange name?
- Everything turned out quite unexpectedly. In the summer of 1997, I decided to create a new project, or rather, a group, but I couldn’t figure out what to call it, so I decided to do what is called “how the card falls” - I bought a deck of cards at the station in a stall and decided: which one is the first will lie, and I will call the group! The first was the ace of the cross...
- And if there were six?
- ... (Pause) ... But that ace lay! Ha ha! By the way, I later found out that in almost all new decks, either the Joker or the Ace of the Cross is the first - then I did not know this ...
- Well, the name is clear, but where is the group?
- I said: I only planned to create a group, but the group, unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, did not work out: two people could not take part in it for good reasons, and two more refused to work" for the future." You know how it is with us: everyone wants a lot of everything at once, but here you have to wait a long time: “it will roll” - “it will not roll”? .. - you yourself understand ...

- Yes, like "rolled"! Pah-pah-pah! (laughs, knocks on wood)
- And whyDid you say: "Bands, maybe fortunately it didn't work out"?
- Do you know how almost all groups usually end up? From the Beatles to some kind of Green Cockroaches (figuratively)? .. That's it ... Breakup and solo projects, if, of course, someone can make them. There are a lot of examples ... In general, while my potential "accomplices", like Hamlets, were deciding "To be or not to be", I recorded the first album of the "Ace of the Cross" called "Lucky Life" on my own, for which I had to sell the car and the garage, and for another half a year to eat exclusively Vietnamese vermicelli from bags due to lack of material resources - (art requires sacrifice!). In short - life was "lucky" in full growth! (Ha ha!). But I bought the most sophisticated keys (in the sense of a sampler and a synthesizer) and a computer, and I had my own guitars for a long time ... And, not depending on anyone, I could now make arrangements of my songs myself. And since he also did poetry, music, recording, mixing and mastering in the studio, he became absolutely independent of anyone - that's where the buzz is! "I play myself - I sing myself, it's a pity, only - I sleep a little."
- Why?
- But there is no time - "We don't even dream of peace!"
- And when to sleep?
- Let's sleep in that light! (Laughs). I'm a workaholic! We need to write songs!
- How long have you been doing music?
- From the age of five - first violin, then drums, bass guitar, guitar ... Imagine, at the age of 13 I played in the restaurant "Intourist"! And, moreover, he sang all the songs exclusively in English and Italian. Kid, at 13 (!) years old! Such guys played with me - I called them by their first and middle names ... And then there were a lot of all kinds of different groups, performances ... Somewhere at the age of 18 I started writing my first songs, - serious ones. Before that, I also tried to write, but it was like this - "baby talk on the lawn." Then the army, special forces, but even there I managed to create my own group - we gathered at night in the boiler room under the club and rehearsed, rehearsed ... until we dropped dead from fatigue. By the way, when I was bought the first guitar at the age of 12, I played it for 10-12 hours a day, until my fingers bled, and after 4 months I already played in a group and was one of the best guitarists in the city - that's me that everything can be achieved if you want.
- What happened next?
- And then - like Zhvanetsky, remember? – “Conservatory, criminal structures, prison, Siberia…” (laughs)
- So, maybe something to fix at the conservatory? .. (laughing together)
- Yes, I managed to get a higher education, but then "perestroika" was announced and everyone rushed in all directions ... Personally, I am into the boiling waters of professional show business. For several years he worked as a concert administrator - he took almost all the stars of the then Soviet Union with concerts.
- And then?
- And then - I earned money, made my own program, assembled a group, and we began to work as a "warm-up" (that is, in the first department) for our superstars, gradually switching to solo activities. We traveled all over our native CIS with concerts.

- Who did you work with?
- With Zhanna Aguzarova, Larisa Dolina, Marina Zhuravleva, Irina Allegrova ... Yes, you better ask who you didn’t work with - there will be much fewer of them - I never had a chance with Alla Borisovna Pugacheva, it’s a pity, but with the rest, probably everyone...

- And then perestroika ended amicably and everyone was not up to concerts - first you need bread, and then circuses, - as one of the ancients said, and many people had nothing to eat ...

- Yes, they got along somehow ... - then all the musicians hit the business: some traded shares, some - shoelaces near GUM ...

- I worked as an arranger. First - in Moscow studios, then - in Thailand, in a transvestite show.

- No, it’s good everywhere, but at home it’s better ... Only then there were several years that I don’t want to remember at all, and even an injury, because of which I almost completely lost my left arm. Thank God, everything worked out with “little blood” - I spent half a year on anabolics and drugs - but my arm is almost intact, only now I can’t play the guitar ... It’s a pity, the guitar is my favorite instrument in the world. Yes, and now I do all the arrangements on the keys with almost one hand - first one part, then the other, and so on ...
So we're back to the Ace of the Crosses.
- Yes, so - the first album of "Ace of the Cross" was released and, almost simultaneously with it, a collection called "Ace of Diamonds", which greatly knocked the listeners out of their pantalyka - everyone thought that this was such a series of collections, but not a solo project. And then, within 2-3 months, about forty collections were published (of which, of course, more than half are "pirated"), which included my songs, and many of them were written by the "Cross Ace group", which finally knocked everyone off sense. It got ridiculous: on Gorbushka, one cassette seller proved to me for a long time that Ace of the Crosses is a group, there are three soloists, and, personally, he likes one of them, and "You, a man (this is him to me) , sorry, of course, but you don’t understand anything at all in this music! ”... I stayed like that with an open “mitten” ...
- Yes, it's fun! And why did he decide so?
- Yes, because I have a range of three octaves, and I sing - as I want: sometimes high, sometimes low, sometimes with "sand" in my voice, sometimes without, so he thought that several people sing, and then these collections - "group", yes "group" ... In general, a complete misunderstanding! But the name has already "gone", has already become a little "hyped", - well, I decided not to change anything and recorded a new album "Businessman's Wife" again under the label "Ace of the Cross".
- Unusual album title...
- Yes, according to the title of one of the songs (sings: “Makar” was lying around with a silencer, and its barrel had already cooled down ... Sashok the Afghan retired, not knowing who he “dunked” ...)
- Where is the theme from?
- Yes, how from where? From life, of course!
- Do you take all the topics from life?
- Well, I can't say for sure that all the characters in my songs are 100% real people, and all plots are real stories - of course not! Yes, if this were the case, then competent comrades from the relevant authorities would have found me long ago, and after preliminary processing, they would have tried to find out from me ... well, the address, for example, of "Seryoga-liquidator" or one of my other characters . Although I sing mostly in the first person, nevertheless, any work of art is a fusion of some real events and the creative imagination of the author. For example, in the series about the "New Russian Cat" in general, all the personalities are fabulous: Cat, Mermaid, Goblin, Baba Yaga ...
- By the way, an interesting trick is to continue the series from songs from album to album, I'm from this "Cat" I'm pinned to the fullest!
- Yes, this, one might say, is my "know-how", - in my opinion, no one has done this before me. Moreover, if you paid attention: all the series are on the same melody, only the arrangement is different. And I wrote the very first episode right off the bat - in 20 minutes - just one side of the cassette lacked a short song for three minutes ... And then there were so many positive reviews about this very "Cat" that I decided to continue writing about him ...

- How many episodes are there?
- Nine! Five of them have been published. I think maybe about this "Cat" in general to release a separate album? Here it will be a feature! - ten songs on the same melody! Such a "maxi-single", as it is now fashionable! (Laughs). By the way, a video for the first episode was recently shot (for which I am extremely grateful to my friend Sergei Gerasimov), and the role of "Cat" was simply brilliantly played by another friend of mine - Igor Pudovkin. I hope the audience will also soon be able to properly poke fun when we show it on TV. Recently, by the way, a video cassette "Stars of Russian Chanson" was also released, where this clip is also available. But we seem to be digressing...
- So what after the second album?
- That's where it started ... They began to call, invite to concerts, just some kind of interest suddenly manifested itself, otherwise I was completely desperate, - I thought that no one needs anything, I'm doing everything in vain ... It turns out, not in vain, it turns out , need…

- Now often - probably, not only you liked my songs ...
- And how are you announced at concerts?
- And so they announce: “Vladimir Kozyrev is the author of the Ace of the Cross project! I also gave a transcript on my fourth album - so that everything was already clear: “who is who!” (as our first president said :)
- Do you always perform alone on stage, like many performers in the "chanson" genre?
- Not at all, - I rarely perform alone, because I think that in any pop genre (it doesn’t matter if it’s a “chanson” or something else), at least a small, but still element of the show should be present - so that the viewer, who came to the concert, it was not only interesting to listen to the songs, but also to look at the stage, so one or two people usually help me on stage: a backing vocalist and a dancer or guitarist. We sing "live", as the musicians say, under the "minus" (this is an instrumental accompaniment recorded in the studio and played by me in turn on all the instruments), because. I cannot afford to carry a large symphony orchestra with me, and no one needs it at all in our time.
- And what is your fourth album called?
- "Prison - prison ..."
- Yes, the name is serious ...
- Well, let's just say, concrete! I dedicated this album to everyone who knows the feeling of lack of freedom ... But before that, I actually had an album called "The Hired Killer" ...
- Why such names?
- Yes, because life is like that! You watch a TV program, read the titles of movies in the program, go to any bookstore, or, finally, just open any newspaper ... What a life - such songs. You cannot erase words from a song, just as you cannot erase a chronicle of incidents from life ... Alas, this is only a reflection of the realities of today ... We are not ostriches to bury our heads in the sand and think that everything is fine. Now news releases or some "Highway Patrol" are cooler than any horror movie. But people are still interested in knowing the truth ... But you also need to joke, otherwise you can immediately go to the cemetery to lie down ...
- Yes, let's not talk about sad things ... So what about the third album?
- With the third? Ah yes! So: fate decided to inflict another blow on me - probably, working off for some past sins - on Friday, the 13th (so don’t believe in signs later!) I turned on the computer and it burned down with a blue flame (in the literal sense) together with an album ready for release... Almost a year of work - "Down the Cat"... For me it was the same as for TV people - a fire at the Ostankino TV tower! I almost died from frustration. I had to start everything "from scratch" ... I will not tell you how it all happened, but I made the album anew, and it was released, and at the end of 2000 my album "Prison-prison ..." was released, the sales results of which surpassed even the most daring expectations.
- What are you planning next?
- I performed at the first international festival of Russian chanson "Star Snowstorm" in the sports complex "Olympic", five clips for my songs have already been shot, we will soon shoot the sixth, and of course, a new album is being prepared for release, this, by the way, will be my anniversary, tenth solo album...
