The history of the founding of Gravity Falls

The settlement is no different from hundreds of similar ones throughout the country, except that it is here that all the anomalous events in the United States (if not the whole world) are concentrated.
The secret of this is shrouded in the fog of the past.

The true founder of Gravity Falls

It is authentically known that the city was founded by Quentin Trembley. This extravagant man is known for being the eighth and a half president of the United States. Eighth and a half, because the country's authorities concealed the very fact of Quentin's existence. And this is due to the fact that the president was amazingly stupid.

So, the city of Gravity Falls itself was founded by Trembley at the moment when the unlucky president was riding a horse. Backwards. Naturally, this style led to a fall - from a rather high hill. The place where Quentin Trembley landed he called Gravity Falls (literally - "gravity fall", "fall from gravity").

The head of the United States of America was unpleasantly surprised by the next trick of the eighth and a half president, so he concealed the very fact of the founding of the city. For posterity, Nathaniel Northwest became the founding father of Gravity Falls., which laid the foundation for the Northwest family - the rich people of the city. Nathaniel's descendant is also his great-great-great-granddaughter Pacifica, one of Mabel's main rivals.

Characters

The main places of the city

The main attraction of Gravity Falls is the Mystery Shack.- the building in which he lives, to which the main characters came for the summer. The Mystery Hut is both a home, a gift shop and a museum. Paradoxically, here, in the center of the most mystical town in the USA, fakes and tricks are collected for curious tourists. Stan makes money on visitors as much as he can, while constantly deceiving them and being crafty. Wendy and Soos also work at the Hut shop. However, the building itself is fraught with much more mysteries than it might seem at first glance.

The Gravity Falls Forest contains most of the wonders of the town. The forest surrounds the settlement from all sides, and the most amazing creatures live in its depths. Among them: gnomes, muzhikotaur (half muzhiks - half Taurus), giant spiders, flying skulls and many others!

Lake Gravity Falls is located very close to the city. It is surrounded by high cliffs and has a sandy beach on one side. Many residents relax here or go fishing. City holidays

Gravity Falls loves to celebrate holidays. The main ones are:

  • Party at the Mystery Shack. The largest discotheque in town, hosted by Stan Pines to draw attention to his merchandise. During the party, Dipper clones himself (repeatedly).
  • Return of the Mystery Shack. A meeting dedicated to the opening of the store for the second time after defeating Gideon Gleeful. Zombies appear in the series, which are overcome by Dipper, Mabel and Uncle Stan.
  • Summerween. The holiday, which the townspeople celebrate on June 22, as a summer Halloween. Instead of pumpkins, lanterns are cut from watermelons in summer. The episode features the creepy Summerween Dodger.

  • There is a place in the USA that bears a name very similar to Gravity Falls. It's a city named Oregon Walls. It is possible that the authors of the series referred to him.
  • The main characters of the animated series - Dipper Pines and Mabel Pines - are twins. They were "copied" from the main author of Gravity Falls Alex Hirsch and his twin sister named Ariel.
  • Another connection with Ariel is that the girl dreamed of her own pig as a child. That is why Mabel got a pig in the series.
  • Some characters in the television series are notable for having four fingers on each hand. Other heroes are all right - five fingers. The creators of the series explain this with aesthetics. It's just that some characters looked good with four fingers, while others looked good with five.

  • At the end of each episode, an incomprehensible set of letters appears. In fact, this is an encrypted message that refers either to the past series or to the next one. You can decipher the phrase by carefully listening to the whisper that sounds at the end of the opening screensaver. Scrolling the whisper backwards will give you the key to the cipher.
  • In Gravity Falls, literally every frame is a cipher, a reference, or an "easter egg". There are already quite a few thematic forums on the Internet where participants try to unravel the secrets of the series and predict the plot.

"Gravity Falls" ("Gravity Falls", Gravity Falls) is an animated series about the adventures of brother and sister Dipper and Mabel, which is very popular due to its outstanding plot collision and warm, "tube" atmosphere. The series was released from 2012 to 2016 in the form of two logically completed seasons.

Who created Gravity Falls? We owe the appearance of Gravity Falls to the talented graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, Alex Hirsch. Alex was lucky - he has been doing what he loves all his life. Engaged earnestly, enthusiastically translating the fruits of his imagination into bright animated pictures. An inspirational animator with burning eyes, extraordinary thinking and enthusiasm was noticed by the director of Disney. So Alex Hirsch ended up in the "mouse house", where he was given complete freedom of action: just create. And Alex created Gravity Falls.

Alex Hirsch was not even 30 years old when he created his masterpiece

Of course, at first there was a concept. Like any artist, the creator of Gravity Falls drew on his experience. Childhood became an inexhaustible well of inspiration for him. During the holidays, he, along with his twin sister Ariel, often whiled away in the village with his uncle. It’s hard for the smartphone generation to imagine, but the main entertainment in the absence of a TV (tablets are out of the question) for Alex and Ariel was their own imagination. In search of miracles, the guys explored the surrounding area and lured leprechauns into traps. Viewed "X-Files" and "Twin Peaks" contributed a lot to children's interest in mysticism.

Not surprisingly, the main character of Gravity Falls, Dipper, is a copy of Alex as a child. With one exception, Dipper is truly a full-fledged participant in the miracles of reality. Mabel certainly looks like Ariel, at 12 she also loved colorful sweaters and fell in love every week. The cartoon "Gravity Falls" tells how Dipper and Mabel spend the summer with their great-uncle Stan. The uncle of the guys does not believe in magic, although he keeps the “Mystery Shack” - a museum for curious tourists. But if the exhibits of the “Hut” are just fakes, then outside of it the world is fraught with many secrets that need to be unraveled. And the local gravitifolz goblin wanders, and the mermaid sits on the branches, and all other evil spirits are not averse to making an intriguing acquaintance with the main characters.

The main characters are surrounded by mysteries

The cartoon "Gravity Falls" raises classic fantastic and mystical themes: time travel, cloning, body swap, "butterfly effect", summoning dark forces, etc. At the same time, the animated series cannot be called exclusively for children. Yes, the creator of Gravity Falls was guided by the fact that he himself would be interested in watching at the age of 12. However, the project turned out to be very successful with an adult audience. Alex sincerely believes that the cartoon will be in demand among people of any age, if its creator likes it from the bottom of his heart.

When Gravity Falls writer Alex Hirsch showed his work to the Disney bosses, he expected anything from invading the Mickey Mouse plot and removing all the frightening monsters. However, no significant adjustments occurred, and Alex's work found its audience. After the release of Gravity Falls on the screens, the author of the animated series woke up famous. In his interviews, he admits that he did not expect such success, such enthusiasm with which adults and children will begin to solve the riddles of the cartoon. At the moment, the cartoon "Gravity Falls" is no longer produced, but remains a favorite for many fans of the project. Whether there will be any continuation of Gravity Falls - a film, series or specials - is still unknown.

Seasons

In Gravity Falls, all seasons are dedicated to the adventures of the twins Dipper and Mabel in the provincial town of Gravity Falls, full of secrets and mysteries. The twins, who have come to visit their uncle, discover that the city is not as simple as it seems. "Gravity Falls" season 1 begins with a mysterious incident - finding a certain "Diary 3", in which an unknown person told about what monsters and what miracles can be found in these places. The author of the diary warns: you can't trust anyone. The cartoon "Gravity Falls" season 1 is dedicated to unraveling the secrets of the town, as well as getting to know many of the monsters indicated in the diary. The constant participants in the adventures are Dipper, Mabel, their uncle Stan and Zus, an employee of the Mystery Shack, where all the main characters live. The heroes will have to face the dwarves, the Summerween Trickster, the muzhikotaur, ghosts, Zhivotav, revived wax figures, their own clones, dinosaurs and many other amazing creatures, most of which are quite dangerous.

Dipper and Diary #3

The main antagonist of Gravity Falls season 1 is Baby Gideon, who pretends to be a psychic. Gideon's main goal is to get the rights to the Mystery Shack. At the end of the season, viewers will find out what attracts the little tyrant so much in this Hut. Usually the heroes manage to deal with all the intrigues of Gideon, but in the finale the villain will take revenge. Also at the end of Gravity Falls season 1, the villain Bill Cipher appears, summoned by Gideon, he will try to take over the mind of Stan Pines. Among other intrigues of the Gravity Falls season 1 cartoon is Dipper's unrequited love for Wendy, a red-haired employee of the Mystery Shack, for which Dipper will have to compete with the musician Robbie. Gideon will fall in love with Mabel, but other boys will lie to her, for example, Rusal or members of the pop group A Couple of Times.

Among the most popular episodes of Gravity Falls season 1 is "Dipper and the Attack of the Clones" about how Dipper decides to make his own clones using a strange printer to create the perfect invitation for Wendy to dance. The top views also include the funny episode "Flight or Fight", in which Dipper brought a pixelated character of a computer game to life to defeat Robbie. The audience also fell in love with the series “Time back!” about Dipper and Mabel's time travel.

Cartoon "Gravity Falls" season 2 continues the theme of the mystical secrets of the town. The story of the time traveler is over, Gideon is revealed and imprisoned, the Mystery Shack is returned to the Pines family, Dipper and Mabel have learned the secret of zombies, lilygolfers, unicorns, the ghost of the Northwest mansion and other incredible creatures. Also, the twins will have to face animated game characters, creepy animatronics, help Uncle Stan run for mayor and uncover the secret of old man McGucket, which he himself does not remember.

In Gravity Falls Season 2, we get to know more about the side characters as Zoos, Pacifica, and Robbie develop. But ahead is the disclosure of the main secrets of the animated series: who is the author of the diaries, and what does Stan do in his basement? In Gravity Falls Season 2, Dipper and Mabel take risks to find out who wrote the diaries. In their search, they discover that Diary #3 has inscriptions written in invisible ink. They also find the alleged author's laptop and try to hack into it, which gets Dipper into trouble. Finally, the twins learn Uncle Stan's terrible secret about the universe portal, his family and past.

Danger awaits everywhere

For many issues of the cartoon "Gravity Falls" season 2, the main characters are terrorized by the insidious and cunning Bill Cipher, who has conceived something terrible. The villain has decided to destroy the world and hatches the plan of Weirdmageddon, but will he succeed in bringing his plans to life, and will the Pines family repel his attack? What role will little Gideon play in this confrontation? How will the fate of the Pines family be decided? The answers to these questions are hidden in the Gravity Falls season 2 finale. Cartoon "Gravity Falls" season 2 is rich in super popular series. Among them are the action series "Into the Bunker", where the company meets the alleged diary author, and Dipper confesses his feelings to Wendy, as well as the incredibly dynamic episode "Not Who He Seems", which reveals the truth about the diary author. One of the best episodes in the franchise is the episode "A Tale of Two Stans". At the same time, the Blendin's Game series about Zus is considered the most dramatic and touching. It is impossible not to mention the final episodes of the series "Gravity Falls" - "Weirdmageddon": really frightening, intriguing and caused a flurry of emotions among fans.

In addition to the usual episodes, the special issue Gravity Falls: Between the Pines aroused great interest among the audience, where Alex Hirsch talks about the secrets of the animated series.

Will Gravity Falls season 3 come out?

Gravity Falls Season 2 is barely over, and viewers are already waiting for Gravity Falls Season 3. The Internet literally exploded with questions: will there be a sequel to Gravity Falls? When will Gravity Falls season 3 be made, release date - is it known? After all, will there be a Gravity Falls season 3 at all? However, to the chagrin of fans of the animated series, its creator Alex Hirsch announced that Gravity Falls 3 should not be expected. The cartoon is over. Not because of the ratings or the desire of Disney, the author of the project himself decided to complete it.

Heroes say goodbye to the audience

There is a simple explanation for this - there will be no Gravity Falls season 3, because the story of Dipper, Mabel and the town itself has an interesting beginning and no less worthy end. The animated series is endowed not with static characters frozen in time, but with living characters who have gone through a development path. As Alex Hirsch himself points out, we live in a time of remakes, prequels and sequels because people like to get back what they once loved. Alex does not deny that someday he will return to the abandoned world and make not only the third season, but also Gravity Falls season 4, a special issue or even a remake. But that, as they say, is a completely different story.

Now that fans know what to expect when Gravity Falls season 3 releases, there's no need to, their attention is on Alex Hirsch's new Fox project. Who knows, maybe it will be his new masterpiece.

mini-episodes

In addition to the 20-minute episodes of the animated series, you can watch Gravity Falls short films. Mini-episodes last 2-2.5 minutes. There are several thematic releases of short films. One of the most popular among them is Gravity Falls: Mabel's Tips. These shorts are made as Mabel's pseudo-documentary video diary, caught on camera. In mini-episodes, the girl gives advice about art, fashion, and dating. Like the entire Gravity Falls series, Mabel's Advice mini-episodes are heavily flavored with jokes.

In another thematic series of mini-series, Dipper's diary reveals the secrets of Gravity Falls. Episodes are also made in the format of a video diary, Dipper with a camera at the ready pursues monsters and monsters, and also, with his inherent seriousness, tries to classify the mystical phenomena of Gravity Falls. The mini-episodes "Dipper's Anomaly Log" allows viewers to learn more about the mysterious inhabitants of the town.

Gravity Falls: Dipper's Anomalies Encounter with the Monster Island

A series of short films is dedicated to Zus, or rather his skills in the field of repair. As you know, life in the Mystery Shack is fraught with dangers and breakdowns. "Repair with Zus" is a video blog about how to fix things that are broken as a result of another alteration and careless handling. The main thing is not to break again what you fixed.

Would you like to learn more about the schedule of such a strange TV Gravity Falls? Then the Gravity Falls Public TV mini-episode releases will delight you with a new portion of surreal humor. Sketches from the life of the imprisoned Gideon and the Detective Duck are attached.

Characters

Dipper Pines- One of the key characters in Gravity Falls. Dipper is a kind and quick-witted twelve-year-old boy who has had many adventures. The name of the hero, apparently, is a nickname: from English it translates as "dipper", while on the forehead Dipper has a "constellation" of moles in the shape of a bucket. According to the hero, Gravity Falls is full of secrets. Some of his guesses turn out to be true, and then Dipper begins to investigate. Often such investigations lead to unexpected results. In his quest, Dipper is often more forward-thinking than other Gravity Falls characters. Despite the fact that there is usually agreement among the inhabitants of the Mystery Shack, Dipper sometimes becomes the object of jokes of the other characters, which is why he is very worried. The main drama of Gravity Falls is Dipper and Wendy. Dipper is unrequitedly in love with the girl Wendy from Gravity Falls, many episodes of the cartoon are devoted to Dipper's attempts to win her heart.

Mabel Pines- also a very popular character in Gravity Falls. Dipper and Mabel are twins, however, unlike her brother, Mabel is more cheerful and spontaneous. Mabel from Gravity Falls is enthusiastic about new adventures. As an addicted person, she is very fond of various hobbies, bright clothes, communication with her friends Candy and Grenda, as well as her pig named Waddles. As soon as a handsome new guy appears in Gravity Falls, Mabel immediately strives to fall in love with him. If the image of Dipper is largely based on his creator, then Mabel from Gravity Falls resembles Alex Hirsch's sister, Ariel.

The main characters of Gravity Falls

Stan Pines- the owner of the Mystery Shack, where Dipper and Mabel are visiting. They have a great-uncle, the children call him Uncle Stan. Stan treats all the wonders of Gravity Falls with a certain amount of skepticism, but in the second season it turns out that Stan himself is involved in some mystical secrets. Stanford from Gravity Falls is a big fan of making money from tourists and watching TV.

Zus- the good-natured cleaner of the Mystery Shack, a frequent protagonist of the adventures of Dipper and Mabel. Zus from Gravity Falls gets his development as a character in the second season. The guys help him get rid of complexes and believe in himself. In the original, Zoos is voiced by Alex Hirsch himself.

Wendy- a girl of fifteen, the daughter of a lumberjack and a cashier in the Mystery Shack. Wendy from Gravity Falls loves to hang out with her friends and doesn't really like working. He is the subject of adoration for Dipper Pines, but perceives him as a friend or younger brother. Dipper's efforts are unsuccessful, as Wendy likes Robbie better, Gravity Falls knows him as a local rock musician.

Gideon- the antagonist of the animated series Gravity Falls. The characters often get into trouble because of his machinations, as Gideon has a dislike for the entire Pines family, except for Mabel, with whom he was in love. It looks like a child dressed in an adult costume. In addition, Gideon from Gravity Falls is a local star, the organizer of the magic show. In fact, Gideon is a spoiled child and a domestic tyrant.

Bill Cipher

Bill Cipher- The main villain of Gravity Falls. Bill Cipher is a magical creature that looks like a triangle with one eye. As a powerful demon, he is capable of very evil and insane acts. He confronts the heroes in several episodes, and at the end of Gravity Falls season 2, Bill Cipher sets up a local apocalypse - Weirdmageddon, creating chaos in Gravity Falls. Monsters are attacking the town and it seems like no one on the show can handle an angry Bill Cipher.

actors

The animated series "Gravity Falls" is voiced by professional actors. So, Dipper in the original speaks in the voice of American actor Jason Ritter, and Mabel speaks in the voice of comedian actress Kristen Schaal. In dubbing, the roles are voiced, respectively, by Anton Kolesnikov, a native of Yeralash, and actress Natalia Tereshkova.

Alex Hirsch also had a hand in the voice acting of the characters, Uncle Stan and Soos broadcast in his voice. Gravity Falls guest stars include 'N Sync, the voice of Mabel's favorite band A Few Times, hip-hop artist Coolio, TV journalist Larry King, and Disney voice Mark Justin.

Secrets and Easter eggs

Gravity Falls Easter eggs bring even the adult audience of the animated series into a state of childish curiosity. Indeed, the series has a lot of allegories, ciphers, riddles, references and symbols. So, let's look at the most important secrets of Gravity Falls.

Cryptograms

With careful viewing, it is easy to detect Gravity Falls ciphers. There are cryptograms in the intro, throughout the series, and in the credits. They are quite amenable to deciphering thanks to simple manipulations with the alphabet. By deciphering the messages, you can find out many secrets of Gravity Falls. The decryption mechanism will prompt the voice at the end of the splash screen. Some cryptograms end up being just "If you're reading this, you should go out and try to make some friends" jokes. However, the encrypted inscriptions also contain valuable information, for example, it says that one of the characters is lying and is not at all what it seems.

Standard cryptogram

Screensaver

At the end of the screensaver, viewers hear a mysterious whisper, reminiscent of the phrase "I'm still here." When you play the phrase backwards, you will hear the phrase "Three letters back" - a hint at deciphering cryptograms using the Caesar cipher. The phrase changes several times during the series: "Change A for Z" - a hint for using the Atbash cipher, "26 letters" - a hint at decryption using a substitution cipher, in the second season the whisper suggests using the Vigenère cipher, and in one episode it says: "Stan not who he seems." For those who like to break their heads, we recommend that you turn to the series in the original voice acting.

Everyone saw Bill Cipher's circle in Gravity Falls. The picture depicting a circle with Bill Cipher inside contains many strange symbols. All symbols of the circle correspond to one of the characters: the comet star is Mabel, the question mark is Zusu, the spruce is Dipper, the broken heart is Robbie, the crescent moon we saw on Stan's fez, etc. If you look closely, outside the circle you will find a binary code, alchemical symbols, geometric transformation matrix and code for the game of the prefix "Dandy".

Gravity Falls Mysteries: Bill Cipher's Circle

Presence of Alex Hirsch

In Gravity Falls, secrets and easter eggs are also associated with the creator of the cartoon. Alex Hirsch can be found in the cartoon: the lower part of his face appears in the intro of the animated series, he juggles next to crocodiles in the television intro of the episode "Bottomless Pit", he sits on a tram in the episode "Roadside Attraction", is one of the participants in Bill's "throne of frozen agony" Cipher and featured on the cover of the magazine in the A Tale of Two Stans series. In addition, the presence of Alex Hirsch can be felt by meeting the letter H in the interiors of the Mystery Shack - the first letter of the name of the cartoon creator (from English Hirsch). Also in some episodes, the number 618 appears - the date of birth of the Hirsch twins (June 18).

The number 618 is everywhere

references

Many of the mysteries of Gravity Falls are references to various films, cartoons and other media culture phenomena. There are a lot of them, take at least Lolf and Dundgren from the episode about time travel, they are a parody of the actor Dolph Lungren and the film "Universal Soldier". The group BABBA, whose song Dipper liked, alludes to the famous group ABBA. When deciphering a diary page flashing in one mini-episode using the A1Z26 cipher, you will find the words from the Sailor Moon intro. The restaurant where Gideon is waiting for Mabel is a replica of the Black Lodge from Twin Peaks. The Spirited Away series is a reference to the Spirited Away anime. In the second episode of the second season, the monster from the heads of Dipper and Mabel looks like a creature from the movie "The Thing". One day, Stan takes a ball from a traveler, where we see the Eye of Sauron. In the witch's caves in the second season, hands create a throne, similar to the throne from the "Game of Thrones". There are a huge number of references to games in different releases - Fallout, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, etc. This list is endless, since the Gravity Falls animated series is literally woven from easter eggs.

Songs and music

The music of Gravity Falls perfectly matches the atmosphere of the animated series - all fans like the peppy, perky melody of Gravity Falls OST from the intro. Also in the series, you can hear songs and funny melodies playing during the height of the heroes' adventures. When creating the project, several composers offered their own versions of the Gravity Falls intro, but in the end, Brad Brick's version was chosen. It was he who composed almost all the songs of Gravity Falls, making an excellent musical arrangement for the series.

Brad Brick is a composer and songwriter known for many Disney, Nickelodeon, MTV and BBC projects. He owns the famous Gravity Falls song "Disco Girl", which is performed by the BABBA group in the cartoon - a parody of the ABBA group with their pop hit "Dancing Queen". He also authored the song Mabel from Gravity Falls called "Don't Lose Faith", "I'm Gideon", "It Will Be So Forever", "Wendy", "Singing Salmon", "Wendy's Song", many other songs and voiceover music "Gravity Falls". Bill Cipher's songs are worth special attention, as this villain is a favorite villain among many fans of the series.

Fans of solving riddles can be advised to find the original soundtrack of Gravity Falls, the music from the intro will make you rack your brains. Listen to the whisper at the end of the Gravity Falls song, vaguely reminiscent of the words "I'm still here" (in English). Play the phrase backwards - and you will hear the phrase "Three letters back." Thus, the song from the Gravity Falls intro hints at the Caesar cipher for deciphering cryptograms.

In addition to the original music, there is quite a lot of fanart - various clips and songs about Gravity Falls, including in Russian.

This is an unofficial publication, "The Monochrome World of Gravity Falls" is a fan fiction, that is, a free fantasy on the theme of the animated series of the same name. However, the graphics of this comic just as freely departs from the style of a drawn cartoon, more reminiscent of anime comics. It is also worth noting that one of the most famous author's comics on Gravity Falls is the Immortality comic, dedicated to the atrocities of Bill Cipher. Fanfiction "Gravity Falls" is embodied not only in comics, but also in stories. Often they raise topics traditional for this genre, very far from the original plot.

Disney's most famous Gravity Falls book is the same Gravity Falls relic Diary 3, the prototype of which is depicted in the cartoon. The Gravity Falls Diary is a colorful illustrated encyclopedia of the monsters and mysteries of Gravity Falls. Alex Hirsch himself worked on the creation of the mysterious diary. It will also be interesting for fans of the animated series to look through the book "Gravity Falls: Diary of Dipper and Mabel", where the reader will find a complete guide to surviving in Gravity Falls. Criticism and public perception

The animated series "Gravity Falls" received rave reviews from critics and viewers. The project has many awards, including several Annie awards, a victory in the British Academy Children's Awards and other awards. In Russia, Gravity Falls was named the TV series of the year according to MIRF. The series "Not Who It Seems" was shown as the best episode on television along with the most popular episodes of modern series.

According to experts and the public, Gravity Falls is the most successful Disney project in recent years. The animated series is rated so highly thanks to an extraordinary thoughtful and multi-layered plot, which Alex Hirsch stuffed with Easter eggs and jokes. The attractiveness of the Gravity Falls characters is also noted: the audience, not without pleasure, finds themselves in them, notices their “reality”. Indeed, the main characters of the cartoon are not static stereotyped images, they are living characters, peeped by the creator of the project in everyday life.

Despite the general approval of the animated series, there are individual criticisms of Gravity Falls. They mainly concern:

  • lack of real positive characters among the heroes, "examples" for the children's audience,
  • discrediting the adult world,
  • occult symbols and themes, "satanic" overtones, mockery of confessions,
  • episodes inappropriate for a children's audience (Tobby's kiss with a cardboard woman, a man's wedding with a thrush, hints of same-sex police love),
  • violence (cruel treatment of heroes with monsters, and monsters with heroes),
  • harm to children due to the lack of morality and false morality put forward.

Mabel's hallucination episode

Connoisseurs of the cartoon give counterarguments: members of the Pines family love each other and, in spite of everything, demonstrate mutual assistance. They sincerely care about loved ones and are on the side of good. As for moral problems, then, as expected, the vices are presented in a negative light - they are either ridiculed or upset the heroes. As for the occult symbolism, Alex Hirsch only laughs it off, hinting that it should not be taken seriously. Therefore, it is difficult to talk about any harm that Gravity Falls can potentially cause to a child, the reviews of the children themselves on the cartoon are the most positive. Despite the abundance of opinions, the animated series "Gravity Falls" is a quality project, a great metaphor for growing up, slow summer days in the village with grandfather. Most likely, it will remain so for nostalgic viewers.

Many of those who watched the cartoon about this settlement would like to know if Gravity Falls really exists, or is it just another fiction of the writers. To understand this issue, let's talk a little more about what kind of city it is, where it is located according to the plot of the animated picture.

Does Gravity Falls exist in real life?

Before answering the question of whether Gravity Falls exists, let's turn to the information we know from the cartoon. So, according to the plot of the cartoon, this settlement is located in the US state of Oregon, in terms of population and total area it is rather small, that is, in fact, it is a kind of analogue of a cottage settlement or a provincial town. It was founded in 1842, after one of the characters fell off a horse in the valley of the same name with the name of the settlement. There are no significant events in terms of world news in it, and it is practically unknown to anyone except the inhabitants of this settlement. According to the plot, some mystical creatures live in Gravity Falls and its environs, with which the heroes are in contact.

Now let's see if the town of Gravity Falls really exists. So, if we look at the list of settlements located in the state of Oregon, then we will not find such a settlement. Of course, many believe that it is so small that it is simply not included in such lists, but by looking at detailed maps of the United States, we will also make sure that it simply does not exist.

The scriptwriters themselves also admit that the city of Gravity Falls exists only thanks to their imagination, and you will not find such a settlement in any American state. Of course, you can find some similar features of this town and real settlements, but these are nothing more than coincidences. When creating the script, the authors did not set themselves the task of copying a real settlement, on the contrary, they wanted to come up with an unusual and mysterious town. Of course, they failed to completely avoid certain coincidences with real cities and natural areas, since there are many provincial settlements similar to each other like 2 drops of water. Therefore, if you wish, you can find a very similar settlement, but which is real and not invented, for example, such towns as Vortex and Boring, located all in the same state of Oregon.

After a year off, Gravity Falls is finally back for Season 2! The brainchild of a child prodigy Alexa Hirsch includes the supernatural misadventures of twins Dipper and Mabel Pines who spend their summer holidays with "Uncle" Stan in a fictional town Gravity Falls, Oregon. So far, they have encountered a variety of creatures, ranging from hordes of gnomes to aged ghosts. The cartoon has parts from The Simpsons, The X-Files and Twin Peaks.

Time caught up with Hirsch and asked about various things related to Gravity Falls. BUT G4SKY kindly translated their interview for you.

When did you first realize that you wanted to make cartoons?

As far as I know, I have always wanted to make cartoons. When I went to the California Institute of the Arts, I was in a class with other weird like-minded people, some of whom went on to work on the show, like J.G. Guintel over Regular Show and Pen Ward over Adventure Time. We were great friends, kicked each other in the side and laughed a lot. It was a direct transition from inexperienced children watching Disney cartoons to children at heart creating these same cartoons.

What was your favorite cartoon as a child?

The Simpsons! Well of course the Simpsons, I loved them because they were not limited in their audience. Many children's shows were self-contained. There was something about The Simpsons... growing up I could tell it was smarter than me. I could tell where there were layers and moments and hidden jokes that I couldn't understand, but I always understood the characters. Great shows have just such layers, for a wide audience, some of which are interesting for children, and some for adults.

You talked about wanting to create a show for all ages. How did you go about it?

There is one way to do this, you don't have to think about anyone when you are doing the show. The best way to create a great show is to create a show that you yourself love. Trust yourself. Do I think it's funny? Do I like it? And if you like it and you think it's funny, then you just have to trust that others will like it too. I may be a very immature adult. I'm something like an adult-child, so if I like it, then both children and adults will like it, because I'm somewhere in between.

Alex Hirsch drew himself in the style of Gravity Falls

Your show is darker than most other children's shows. Now that you've switched to Disney XD, will the tone of the cartoon stay the same?

We were told that the show would move to Disney XD midway through the season, so there was no coordinated talk about changing the tone and direction of the show. Although in the second season with the overall style and tone we experiment much more than in the first. The first season talked about the characters, introduced us to the mythology, and just tried to be as funny and funny as possible. In Season 2, we dig much deeper into the mythology and our heroes take on much more risks, more tense situations, and more formidable villains. As a result, the line "conspiracy-something like secret materials-horror stories" will take on a larger and stronger scope. But we're still hoping to balance that kind of storyline with the traditional Gravity Falls goofy and funny episodes.

Which character did you create first?

In second grade I drew a face on a paper bag, I gave him a cape and named him Super Paper Bag Man. My creativity at the time was quite limited. Luckily, the Super Paper Bag Man fell into disrepair, forcing me to come up with other better ideas.

Who is your favorite character in Gravity Falls?

In the penultimate episode of our first season, we introduced this villainous, mischievous triangle. He is a pyramid with one eye and a bow tie named Bill Cipher. We thought of him at the beginning of the season that it could be fun, DC has such a character with their Mister Mxyzptlk, a kind of jerk who can just appear and ruin all the plans of the main characters. It amuses me to create the most sinister, Illuminati-like symbol with the hands of Mr. Peanuts and throw it into the structure of the show, see how it all fits together. I got a lot of emails and pictures on twitter, people get tattoos with him! It's hilarious when your favorite character is also loved by the kids of America.

Dipper and Mabel are based on you and your sister, but are there other characters on the show based on relatives or acquaintances?

Handyman Zus was 100% inspired by my college friend named Jesus. He is friendly, benevolent and very strange. He's the kind of guy who gets stuck in the gravity of college even after graduating, he tries to help everyone. I definitely wanted to add a character like this to my series.

The reason Mabel has a pet pig named Waddles is because my sister always dreamed of having a pet pig when we were growing up. She wanted to make a pig sanctuary in her room.

You personally voiced two characters: Soos and Uncle Stan. What inspired you to create these voices?

The inspiration for these voices was, first of all, the people on whom we based ourselves. Great Uncle Stan was inspired by my grandfather Stan on my father's side, whom I didn't know very well. But he was a big, rough guy who wore a gold chain and a gold watch and valued every cent. As far as I remember, he spoke in such a rough voice in a lower register. However, if the character was inspired by my grandfather Stan, then his voice was inspired by my other grandfather Bill. Every time I see him at Thanksgiving, he always says, "Roll out the red carpet, Mr. Hollywood has finally decided to pay us a visit." So I was very guided by his voice and manner of speech.

Soos was inspired by my friend Jesus. His manner of speech is completely uncopyable. It's hard to describe, but I still copied and used some elements for Zus.

The awful truth is that all my summer vacations have been amazingly boring. Dipper's adventures are for the most part a list of things I've dreamed of doing. When I was a child, I spent those long, long summer holidays in my great aunt's cabin in the woods. She said: “And so, three hours of reading!” and locked us in a room with a large window. It was so depressing that I imagined beating gnomes or fighting aliens or looking for the Loch Ness monster. With this series, I have a chance to realize my dreams at least on the screen.

Do you have any advice for people who want to make their own TV series?

It's all about the characters. Regardless of what your series looks like, regardless of its concept, regardless of famous voice actors, regardless of budget or otherwise, it's all secondary. Your heroes should come first. They're funny? Are their personalities well written? Do they interact with each other? All this must be taken into account. And my top super tip for any show creator is to write what you know and look back on your own life. I think the most successful element in the characters of Gravity Falls is that they are all taken from the images of real people, I write about myself and my sister, about my cartoon grandfather with elements of a lot of humor. If you can copy the characters from the people around you and put them in the series, then it will be much better than if you focused on "how do I make characters with complex mythology." In the end, this is why people love such living characters with whom they can associate themselves and this is the most important thing.

Do you have ideas that you will never add to the show?

For each episode, there are at least 10 fully developed development concepts that were rejected and discarded due to being too dumb or vice versa because they were too serious.

What is the hardest part about running your own show?

This is the creation of stable quality content for 20 episodes, when you are a producer, screenwriter, director, designer and voice characters. All this together. When you're in college, you can make one cartoon a year or even your whole year, you have plenty of time to dot the i's and make sure everything is just right. When you're on TV, you're more like a conveyor. Not all episodes are 5-plus, but I try to keep track of every detail as much as possible.
