Gameplay

Gameplay Injustice: Gods Among Us includes one-on-one duels in a 2D perspective, although the characters and backgrounds are rendered in 3D. Each fight consists of one round; however, each player has two health bars. To Injustice turned out to be more understandable for the players, combos are included in the game, consisting of a series of 4 buttons on the gamepad, a button is also available to launch a character's unique ability or super move.

A variety of maps, such as Batman's Lair or the Fortress of Solitude, etc. are presented in an interactive environment and have several levels. Each arena contains objects that the character can interact with depending on their class. For example, Batman can attach explosives to a car and blow it up, and Superman can lift the same car and deal a crushing blow to an opponent. During combat, players fill up the energy gauge through various actions, such as performing a combo, simply hitting an opponent, or when a hero is damaged. Next to the gauge is an indicator of a hero-specific ability (Batman has electronic bats, you can use 1 mouse, 2 or 3, it all depends on how many mice are available; Superman has a gauge that temporarily makes him stronger; Wonder Woman has changing weapons from a whip to a shield and sword). The energy scale is divided into four sections; as the scale fills up, it becomes possible to use various techniques that consume stored energy to one degree or another: enhanced special moves, interrupting an enemy attack, as well as means for lengthening combos; a fully filled scale can be used up for a super move.

An additional mode is King of the Hill, which allows up to eight players to watch the fight and fight on a first come, first serve basis.

Comics

On October 5, 2012, a comic book series was announced at the EB Games Expo, which is a prehistory of the events in the original game. The series is written by Tom Taylor as well as a number of artists. The comic was released digitally on January 15, 2013, but was also released in print a week later.

The plot tells about how the Joker and Harley Quin, with the help of Scarecrow's gas mixed with kryptonite, poisoned Superman. The gas caused hallucinations, because of which he kills his pregnant wife - Lois Lane. Following a cardiac arrest, Lois was detonated by a nuclear bomb that the Joker had also planted in downtown Metropolis. Superman, contrary to his "code", killed the Joker in a fit of rage. As a result, Superman's mind began to change and he, with the support of some superheroes, began to build an "ideal world", without psychopaths and criminals, which subsequently led to a totalitarian regime. However, some superheroes went into the militia and organized their own group of rebels, along with Batman, Catwoman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and even the criminal Harley Queen.

The comic proved so popular that it is still being published today. “Year One”, “Year Two”, “Year Three”, “Year Four”, “Year Five” have already been released.

Superman was considered Earth's greatest hero. But when the Man of Steel doesn't...

Injustice Comic Description: Gods Among Us. Book 1:

You know this game, but you don't know the whole story. Discover the origins of the mega-popular fighting game from the makers of Mortal Kombat, Injustice: Gods Among Us!

Superman was considered Earth's greatest hero. But when the Man of Steel failed to save those who were dearest to him in the world, he gave up trying to save humanity ... and took control of the planet into his own hands.

From now on, the last son of Krypton intends to spread the world by any means. And the only one who opposes the absolute power of Superman is Batman. The Dark Knight will go to any lengths to prevent his former friend from driving life into the ugly framework of the dictatorship of superhumans.

Like the game that inspired it, Injustice: Gods Among Us is action-packed and depicts a world that has gone berserk, where god-like creatures try with an iron fist to restore order. Written by Tom Taylor (Earth 2) and drawn by Jeremy Raapak (Resident Evil), Mike S. Miller (Batman: Arkham Geek) and more, this story brings the superheroes of the DC Universe to life in a whole new way!

What happened to the heroes and villains in the fighting game comics from NetherRealm Studios.

Injustice: Gods Among Us can not be called a perfect fighting game. The balance in it leaves much to be desired, which is bad for a competitive genre. But, firstly, this does not prevent the game from brilliantly entertaining groups of friends at parties. And secondly, the famously twisted plot became the basis for a new full-fledged universe within the framework of comics. DC.

Developers from NetherRealm Studios co-wrote the story with lead writers from DC Comics. The task was not easy - it was necessary to explain how the heroes got to such a life that they hit the faces not only of the villains, but also of each other, and at the same time give the heroes without superpowers a chance to survive in fights with titans like Superman. At the same time, it was necessary not to “break” anything in the characters of the heroes beloved by millions and make a story worthy of a cult universe out of the events of the game. Just.

The bosses of the publishing house gave an entire parallel reality for the experiments of Ed Boon and the company, where all the events of the game take place, and at the same time released a separate line of comics: it substantiated and supplemented many of the events of Gods Among Us. The world of Injustice has become really popular among geeks and gamers, so DC continues to expand it to this day. Now they are releasing the third series based on them.

In anticipation of the release of Injustice 2, we will briefly tell you what happened to your favorite superheroes and supervillains in the four years of the existence of a parallel universe.

Year one. Change of priorities

Five years before the events of Injustice, the Joker suddenly realized that losing to Batman every time was no longer fun, and chose a new target for his sadistic jokes - Superman. An evil clown kidnapped his pregnant wife, Lois Lane, and connected to her heart the detonator of an atomic bomb planted in the very center of Metropolis.

When the Man of Steel flew to save his beloved, the Joker used a mixture of fear toxin and kryptonite to cause him to have frightening hallucinations. In delirium, Superman saw in front of him not Lois, but his sworn enemy Doomsday and entered into battle with him.

At the last moment, the Kryptonian realized that in front of him was not a huge monster, but his own wife, but it was too late - Lois died, and at the same moment a nuclear explosion thundered. Millions of residents of the city that Superman swore to protect died along with the beloved woman of Clark Kent.

Having personally destroyed everything that was dear to him, Superman renounced his earthly personality and human moral standards. For the first time in his life, he went on a murder - tore the heart out of the Joker's chest. After that, the last son of Krypton swore an oath to eradicate crime on Earth, began to build a new world order, and in this he was supported by most of Justice League. They overthrew dishonest governments, stopped wars, and sometimes Superman killed someone else in the name of the greater good.

In between acts of imposing world peace, the tyrant, along with Lex Luthor (and he, of course, survived the bombing of Metropolis) developed a super-pill based on Kryptonian technology. An ordinary person could take the drug and temporarily gain Superman's super strength and super strength. So the former hero planned to create an army that would support the new world order.

As usual in DC stories, if Superman goes berserk, Batman gets the dubious honor of solving the problem. Same with Injustice. The Night Knight tried to dissuade Superman from radical action, and when persuasion did not work, he organized a resistance team. The squad includes heroes from the Justice League who do not agree with the radical course and some not the most law-abiding inhabitants of the DC universe.

The conflict flared up quickly. The first victim was Nightwing (Dick Grayson, Batman's adopted son), who was accidentally killed by Robin (Damien Wayne, Batman's own son). In less than a minute, Bruce lost both sons - Robin supported Superman in this war to the very end.

A Brief History of Damien Wayne by Dr. Harleen Quinzel.

Both sides began to invent ways to ruin each other's lives. Batman kidnapped Hawkgirl and sent Martian Manhunter in her guise to spy on Superman. He hacked Cyborg and the Justice League satellite, and also stole one of the super pills and copied the technology for its production. This allowed the Rebels to equalize the odds against super-strong enemies, and the writers to justify that characters without powers, like Harley Quinn, could last more than two seconds against Shazam or Sinestro.

Superman did not lag behind: he revealed the identity of Batman to the whole world, burned the Martian Manhunter alive, killed the Green Arrow, broke the spine of the defender of Gotham himself, and in a couple of minutes killed several thousand invaders from the army of the galactic dictator Darkseid, including his son Kalibak.

The common people at first supported Superman and rejoiced at the sharply subsided crime, but the further, the more people realized that the new ruler of the world was just another tyrant.

Darwin Award for this young man.

Year two. In the darkest night...

Opponents of the new regime were on the verge of defeat. Batman spent most of the year lying with a broken spine in Fate's Tower. Black Canary is also out of action - not only did Superman kill her husband (Green Arrow), she will now have to raise her newborn son on her own.

But there was also a small success - the rebels were able to plunge Wonder Woman into a magical coma for a year, depriving Superman of his main supporter. It also turns out that Lex Luthor was Batman's undercover agent from the start. It was he who supplied Bruce Wayne with super pills and gave him information about the plans of the enemy.

As they say, the enemy of my enemy is mine... Well, no one in their right mind would call Lex Luthor a friend.

Superman continued to change the world in his own way. The "earthly" stage of the conflict unfolded in Gotham, where the first detachments of people on super-tablets were sent. Because of this, Commissioner Gordon and the entire police force actually lost their jobs (and Gordon also had cancer in the final stage). Former law enforcement officers sided with Batman, received a portion of super pills and started a war with the troops of the new regime.

But the main turmoil began in space, between Superman and the Green Lantern Corps. The Guardians of the Universe (corps leaders) found out about Superman's illegal activities and flew to Earth to deal with the problem. But before them, Sinestro was in place. He ingratiated himself with the Kryptonian and disrupted his negotiations with the Guardians. And when a vanguard of Green Lanterns came to Earth to capture Superman for questioning, Sinestro again intervened and stopped them with the help of the Yellow Lantern Corps.

What is your "Game of Thrones" - in Injustice, cult heroes are dying like flies.

In response to the aggression, the Guardians organized a full-scale attack on Earth, with the participation of half of the Green Lantern Corps, the Guardian of the Universe Ganset, and even the living planet Mogo. With one volley of green energy, Mogo destroyed a quarter of Sinestro's corps, forcing Superman's army to retreat to Earth. There, super-pilled Batman supporters joined the attack. Together, they captured the Flash, Cyborg, Robin, and other Superman supporters and hid them in Fate's Tower, but they were not without casualties either. Commissioner Gordon died - it turned out that super pills dramatically accelerated the development of a cancerous tumor.

Meanwhile, Sinestro earned the achievement "A Green Lantern from Earth? Didn't hear." In a couple of weeks, he reduced the number of Green Lanterns from Earth from four to zero. Fingers crossed: gave Hal Jordan the Yellow Ring as soon as the Guardians of the Universe stripped him of the Green Ring for supporting the rebellious Superman - time. Killed Kyle Rayner and John Stewart - two and three. He blamed Stuart's death on Guy Gardner, and Hal, who had just taken the Yellow Ring, tore Guy into four pieces in a rage.

In short, Sinestro is, as always, a scumbag.

Who wants to personally strangle Sinestro for his meanness - get in line.

At the same time as Hal, Superman received the Yellow Ring. This moment was broadcast live to the entire planet. But if the Green rings work on willpower, then the Yellow ones feed on fear. And the fear of billions of inhabitants of the Earth gave Superman such strength that he destroyed the living planet Mogo, and the Guardian of the Universe Ganset, and several hundred more Green Lanterns, and captured the rest.

The share of positive in the final of the "second year" was brought by Dr. Fate. He saved the Black Canary from inevitable death and transferred her with her newborn son to another alternate universe, where he left Green Arrow on the threshold of the house, whose wife in this universe died several years ago. At least someone has a happy ending.

As if Superman without the ring isn't scary enough.

Year three. It's a kind of magic

The battle with the Green Lanterns ended in a complete failure for the "good guys". By the beginning of the third year, the Earth had finally come under the control of Superman. But he did not think to stop. Now the tyrant lived for a different purpose: to catch and call to account Batman, whom he blamed more and more for all his troubles with each meeting.

Wonder Woman has woken up from a nearly year-long coma. Finding Superman in the company of Sinestro and with a Yellow ring on his finger, she became so enraged that Sinestro was visibly hit in the head, and the Kryptonian refused the power of the Yellow Lanterns without resistance. But, despite the similarities, the Yellow Ring is not like the Ring of Omnipotence from another famous universe, so after losing it, Superman did not become kinder.

The last ones who still dared to challenge Superman were the members of Batman's team. The Dark Knight healed a broken spine and realized that he could not win in the physical world. Therefore, he decided to move the battle to the world of magic, made alliances with Doctor Fate, Zatanna, the demon Etrigan, John Constantine and other sorcerers.

Konstantin, as usual, wanted to spit on this whole world war and the whole volume pursued only his own personal goals. In fact, the entire “third year” is a story about how, for the sake of saving his daughter and freeing his own soul, the swindler-Englishman pushed all the opposing forces with his foreheads and got out of the water dry.

If something is dear to John Constantine, then for this he will sell the whole world to the devil and will not even choke on tobacco smoke.

Again, there were no casualties. The Swamp Thing was literally dragged into hell, the Huntress died and a couple of dozen lesser-known characters died. Even Doctor Fate briefly left this world. Well, Konstantin, having reached his goal over the corpses, disappeared in an unknown direction, not forgetting to take his daughter with him. At least someone has a happy ending 2.0.

When reality itself begins to collapse due to the fight between two powerful demons, the heroes have to forget about enmity and unite for a while.

Year four. Oh what a man!

Superman completely subjugated the Earth, but began to move away even from his allies. Batman, after the death of so many friends, also became completely unsociable, went into seclusion and even promised the dictator that he would no longer fight. And then he made a deal with Ares. Because he's a goddamn Batman. And Batman doesn't give up.

Ares tricked the gods of Olympus into invading Earth. The celestials came to this world and put forward an ultimatum: firstly, Superman must give up power and transfer it to Zeus, and secondly, the only true religion must be restored on Earth - of course, ancient Greek paganism.

The invasion began with an epic fight to the death between Wonder Woman and Superman (she is the daughter of Zeus, or whatever, let him defend the honor of daddy by force!). The Kryptonian lost. But before Diana could kill him, all the heroes of Earth and the Old Gods joined the battle. The earthlings were defeated, and Superman had to disband the Justice League and hand over the Earth to Zeus, who immediately began to tyrannize the earthlings for the wrong faith.

When your boss kills Hercules, the demigod son of Zeus, in front of your dad...

Meanwhile, the heroes learned that Ares organized the invasion not to help Batman, but to cause general chaos and hit Zeus in the head for childish grievances. In addition to the capture of the Earth by the Thunderer, the program of the holiday included: the rebellion of Poseidon against Zeus, the war of the Old Gods with the troops of Aquaman, the rebellion of earthly governments using nuclear warheads, and the final chord - the coming of Darkseid's army to Earth. Darkseid immediately agreed to the terms of the god of war in exchange for the right to forever torture Superman, who killed his son.

"I also found the god of war."

Ares' plan almost succeeded. But Superman knew about the coming of Darkseid in advance, flew to Apokolips and almost tore off his head. Batman was transported to New Genesis and persuaded the Supreme Father of the New Gods to stop Zeus.

In the end, Zeus agreed to leave Earth forever, the Old Gods left, and Superman returned to power. He severely punished governments that dared to disobey his order to disarm and used nuclear weapons. In the end, the former hero officially took all power on the planet into his own hands and named himself Supreme Chancellor of the United Earth.

Year five. And there was no one...

In the last "pre-game" year, Superman finally became obsessed with overarching control. He started working with criminals like Bane and Killer Frost and killed over 200 people because they shouted anti-regime slogans and called themselves the Joker Resistance.

Then Doomsday appeared on Earth (already real, not illusory), but Superman defeated him and, with the help of Lex, "reprogrammed" him into his personal toy. Then came Bizarro, the creation of Lex Luthor, the half-witted counterpart of the Man of Steel. The dictator blamed the murders of innocent people on him. But the militias learned the truth, after which even the allies began to openly doubt their leader.

It's been a very dark time for Batman. Most of the resistance had either already died or refused to openly oppose Superman. Then (presumably) on the orders of the world ruler, one of the "accidentally" escaped villains killed Alfred, the butler of the Wayne family. The Dark Knight realized that it was time to radically change the rules of the game.

Mass executions are what you need to maintain the image of the popular supreme ruler of the planet.

Together with Lex, they decided to bring members of the Justice League from Earth-1 to this universe. With their help, Batman wanted to open a safe with kryptonite weapons, once created by himself in case Superman threatens the Earth. But to open the vault, the genetic data of five members of the Justice League were required at once. And one of them was already dead, while the rest supported the regime.

Batman's plan succeeds: Wonder Woman, Hal Jordan, Aquaman, and Green Arrow travel from Earth-1 to the world of Injustice, taking Batman and the Joker with them. The final episodes of "Year Five" are in sync with the start of the game. We were shown the same events that we saw in the first cutscenes of the story campaign, sometimes from the perspective of other characters.

Dr. Quinzel, do you want to talk about this?

Even after the circle was closed and the whole story of the civil war between the heroes was told, DC did not want to part with the Injustice universe. Almost immediately after the Year 5 finale, the Ground Zero series began to appear, which told ... Yes, about the same thing. Only from the position of Harley Quinn.

It turns out that while the powers that be sorted out the relationship and staged five genocides per issue, the crazy comedian dealt with her feelings for the Joker, and along the way arranged chaos. As it turned out, the beauty was a witness or participant in all the key events in the world of Injustice. Nothing critical happens in this series, but it will be interesting to get acquainted with an alternative point of view for all fans of Gotham's most romantic couple.

Injustice Gods Among Us - Year Three Injustice Gods Among Us - Year Three

Injustice Gods Among Us DC Comics

Chapter 1: The first chapter of Injustice Gods Among Us The Injustice Gods Among Us opens during the game's time period as Batman rebounds on Superman's tyrannical regime. From there, the story flashes five years ago the previous one. Superman (who is married to Lois Lane in this version of the DC Universe) learns that Lois is pregnant and reacts with a mixture of excitement and fear. However, a news tip leads Lois and Jimmy Olsen to the docks of the metropolis, where they are ambushed by the Joker and Harley Quinn. The Joker immediately shoots and kills Jimmy.

Chapter 2: While Batman is investigating a theft at Starlight Labs, Superman discovers Jimmy's body and a bloody Joker playing card left at the scene. Superman desperately pleads for Batman's help, who calls throughout the Justice League to assist in the search. The Flash leads Batman to the Scarecrow's secret lab, where they find that the villain has been poisoned by the Joker's toxin. Wonder Woman learns from the worker's doc that the Joker and Harley are hiding in a submarine. Superman confronts the duo, but is dosed with toxic gas and attacked by what looks like Doomsday.

Chapter 3: Superman immediately starts fighting Doomsday and blows him into space. The Joker and Harley attempt to escape from their submarine (which Harley named the Gunter), but are perceived by the Justice League. Batman discovers that the Joker stole the Scarecrow's fear toxin, spiked it with Kryptonite, and used it to infect Superman. The Joker also reveals that he has hidden a nuclear warhead in downtown Metropolis, programming it to detonate once Lois' heartbeat stops. In orbit, Superman realizes he's been brainwashed too late by attacking his wife, not Doomsday. As Lois and her unborn child both die in vacuum, the warhead explodes and destroys Metropolis.

Chapter 4: Superman mourns the death of Lois among the ruins of the Archdiocese while rescuing the survivors of the Justice League from outlying areas. At the same time, Batman is interrogating the Joker in Gotham's jail. The Joker reveals that he is Superman being targeted because he is tired of losing to Batman and wanted "to play on Easy Mode for a while." Despite Green Lantern's efforts to stop him, Superman flies into the prison and stabs the Joker through the chest while the villain dies of laughter.

Chapter 5: Harley Quinn escapes from police custody and returns to the Joker's secret hideout, mourning the death of her "puddin". » Green Arrow quickly tracks her down and takes her into custody, hoping to prevent her from being the next victim of Superman's murder (as much for Superman's sake as it is for Harley). He takes her to his Arrow Cave, which is impervious to Superman's x-ray vision. Harley admits that she knew the Joker was an evil person, but couldn't love him anyway. Before leaving, Harley's green arrow cheers up, giving her her best manic laugh. Read DC comics online on our website.

Chapter 6: Superman continues to mourn the loss of his family and city in the Fortress of Solitude. News broadcasts of the civil war in the Middle Eastern country Bialya force him to intervene. Superman rescues a group of civilians and kidnaps the Bialyian president. Wonder Woman convinces him to purify himself and give a speech at the United Nations. The next day, Superman announced his former civilian identity to the world and delivers an ultimatum - all governments in the world must stop hostilities or Superman will do it for them.

Chapter 7: Superman continues his crusade around the world, stopping the US drone attack in the process. The military leader convinces the President that steps must be taken to rule Superman. A small squad led by the supervillain Mirror Master is sent to kidnap Superman's adoptive parents. The Mirror Master burns his house down and traps Kenta inside the mirror. He orders Superman to retire immediately or risk his parents being tortured and killed.

Chapter 8: Wonder Woman gathers the Justice League to inform them of Kenta's kidnapping and reaffirm their faith in the righteousness of Superman's quest. Members of the League team up to hunt down each of the Outbreak Rogues until the Mirror Master is finally tracked down at the World's End bar in Keystone City. Mirror Master confesses to hiding Kenta in the vast salt marshes of Bolivia. As Superman saves his parents, Batman confronts the President and admonishes him for targeting innocent people and giving the Justice League a reason to rally around the fallen. Questions whether Superman's president can be trusted more knowing how he does about the corrupting influence of absolute power.

Chapter 9: Wonder Woman carries on Superman's crusade as she stops the war between Qurac and Justal. The Greek god of war Ares confronts her about Superman's actions. Wonder Woman calls Superman "the greatest person I've ever known" and acknowledges her desire to become his mistress after his grieving process is done. She realizes Ares is terrified at the prospect of Superman and having children herself. Although Ares attacks her, Superman arrives to help her and Wonder Woman savagely injures Ares. She leaves the god of war to languish in the desert, in the hope that the forced peace will cause his powers to vanish. Ares reflects that Wonder Woman may be Superman's final undoing, as she lacks his restraint in battle.

Chapter 10: Superman enters the Batcave as Robin and Nightwing spar. He confronts Batman about his disappearance during a manhunt for the Kents and insists that he only does what Batman would do if he had Kryptonian powers. Batman in turn chides Superman for resorting to murder, warning that once a terrible act is justified once, it becomes easier to justify again. At the same time, Aquaman and his Atlantean army attack the Japanese whaling fleet. The Justice League attempt to save the whaling crew and get embroiled in a conflict with the Atlanteans.

Chapter 11: The war between the Justice League and Atlantis rages on as Batman and Superman continue to argue in the Batcave. Superman states that Batman enjoyed having the Joker as Nemesis, despite the losses caused by their rivalry. Batman lashes out and stabs Superman, simply breaking his arm as a result. Batman then admits that Superman has always been a better man, but refuses to join him on his crusade. Aquaman summons an Atlantean superweapon, causing a tsunami wave to form and engulf the transport fleet. The source of the tsunami is revealed to be the Kraken.

Chapter 12: Superman exits the Batcave to fight against Aquaman. Batman walkie-talkie to Aquaman to warn him of Superman's unhinged mental state. While Aquaman initially agrees to back off, the Justice League only realize that he is bluffing when his forces have invaded several major cities around the world. In response to this, Superman raises Atlantis from the ocean floor and deposits in the middle of the Sahara Desert. Aquaman finally relents, while heroes like Green Lantern and Shazam begin to show doubts about Superman's actions. Superman revokes access to Batman by the Justice League's communicators, while Wonder Woman convinces him that their actions were nothing but. However, she pointedly neglects to convey Aquaman's condolences on Lois' death.

Chapter 13: The Justice League find themselves putting down an anti-superhero riot in Melbourne, Australia. A local hero named Galaxor attempts to lead the League away, but is badly injured by Superman and Wonder Woman as the Flash looks on. Distraught, Flash leaves the scene and is directed by Batman to the lab where Galaxor lived and worked. Realizing the young hero was idolized by the Justice League, the Flash's belief in Superman is further broken. He travels through the Australian wilderness, trying to ignore his growing inner turmoil.

Chapter 14: This chapter of Injustice Gods Among Us begins with Flash forward as Batman stands over a dead body, not fully shown, stating "My son is dead". The story tells flashes back shortly before Superman saves two news anchors from being killed by Two-Face on live television. Superman publicly admits to killing the Joker for the first time and promises to protect the innocent, not psychopaths like Two-Face. Batman and Nightwing quickly fly to Arkham Asylum in hopes of stopping Superman from targeting the rest of Gotham's jailed criminals. But when they arrive, they discover that Damian has taken Superman's side against them.

Chapter 15: Damian Wayne begins this chapter by berating Batman and Nightwing for standing with criminals. Wonder Woman then tells the cyborg to start opening the prison cells, where the criminals are immediately teleported outside to "a safe facility where they can't hurt anyone else". Batman retaliates by offsetting a virus in the cyborg's system, but Nightwing, the voice of reason, stops him. The scene moves to the green arrow bringing the Harley Quinn to Arkham Asylum. When he discovers that the Justice League is in the hideout, he rushes off to them and Harley breaks the guards nose to escape. As the green arrow confronts the group, they hear Harley Quinn's speakers release all the prisoners. The chapter ends with Solomon Grundy pulling Robin into the ground.

Chapter 16: Harley Quinn watches CCTV footage of Arkham as the Justice League battle the escaped prisoners. Nightwing, Batman and Superman rush to rescue Robin from Solomon Grundy. Superman softens the monster by cutting off his arm and flying through his chest while Batman blows his head off. Although unharmed, Robin is embarrassed at being taken by surprise and by Beakers with Nightwing. In a moment of anger, he throws the Escrima stick at Nightwing's head, causing the hero to fall unconscious and break his neck. Both Harley and the Justice League are horrified. Batman carries Nightwing's body outside, once again lamenting that his "son" is dead and bringing the story full circle with a flash forward in Chapter 14.

Chapter 17: In the aftermath of Nightwing's death, Catwoman begins a new crusade to steal from Gotham's wealthy and give to the poor. She laments the lack of accountability for both the Justice League and the world's wealthy elite. Catwoman is interrupted in the middle of a theft by Superman, but manages to escape briefly thanks to her kryptonite earrings. However, when Superman catches her, he discovers that his goal is simply to convince her to appease Bruce over Dick's death. She reluctantly agrees, disgusted that the two men lack the courage to talk face to face. Chapter 18: Batman and Catwoman arrive for a rooftop meeting with Commissioner Gordon, only to find the president waiting in return. The President is considering the many unilateral actions Superman and the Justice League have taken in recent days. Both he and Batman agree that it is not Superman's place to forcibly end all world wars and conflicts, and that the root causes of these conflicts remain. Batman agrees to put together a team to stop Superman, but he and Catwoman implore the president to do a better job of trying to bring peace and equality to the world. After being split into a short dial set, Batman and Catwoman resume work in the Batcave with their new allies - Green Arrow, Black Canary, Black Lightning, Aquaman, Batwoman, and Captain Atom.

Chapter 19: Billy Batson compiles a series of interviews about how ordinary Americans react to the actions of a League referee. When asked why he is doing interviews, Billy's mind flashes on the recent showdown between the League and Black Adam. After a brutal fight, Wonder Woman uses her lasso to overpower Adam. Lasso makes him reveal his transformation magic word, but not before he pleads with Shazam to keep the kingdom of Kahndaq safe. Adam returns to his elderly human form and is taken into the League's custody. Billy decides to have a conversation with his magical alter ego. While Shazam believes that the League is working for a good cause, Billy is convinced. He feels that his young age gives him the perspective many of his fellow heroes lack.

Chapter 20: A month after the Joker's attack on Metropolis, an unknown source in the ruins of the city begins emitting a radio signal that constantly repeats "I'm alive." The cyborg is convinced the signal is a trap. Regardless, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern fly to Metropolis to investigate the signal. After entering a deep chamber and opening a massive steel door, Superman discovers Lex Luthor inside. Unlike the regular DC Universe, these versions of Superman and Luthor appear to be close friends. Luthor learns of the League's latest activities and professes his desire to help. To prove that he can be trusted, Luthor reveals that he has known the League's respective secret identities for years and has never taken advantage of the knowledge.

Chapter 21: Hawkgirl is intercepted and captured in the middle of a mission by Huntress and Black Lightning. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman travels to a refugee camp in Mogadishu. Realizing that removing one warlord will not stop the nightly cycle of violence and rape, she kills the warlord and the arms of a woman from the camp with the soldiers' weapons. Returning to the JLA Watchtower, Wonder Woman learns of Hawkgirl's disappearance. Luthor knows Batman behind her kidnapping and is convinced that Superman needs more allies. But Batman reveals to Catwoman that he has replaced Hawkgirl with an impostor, who promptly enlists the Watchtower to ease the JLA's fears. Read comics online on our website.

Chapter 22: The Imposter Hawkgirl claims Batman let her go with a message of peace, hoping to convince the JLA to reconsider their actions. This leads to an argument where Flash and Shazam again question the League's latest actions. However, both Robin and Luthor agree that Batman is using Hawkgirl as a pawn to sow discord within their ranks. Luthor feels the best course of action for the League is to reach out to the world. Meanwhile, on Apokolips, Kalibak confronts his father Darkseid with the news that Superman has seemingly abandoned violence for the life of the world. Darkseid allows Kalibak to lead the invasion party to Earth, before resuming his investigation and torturing the Black Rider (the New God is an example of the implementation of death). Superman's speech to the world is interrupted by Kalibak's arrival. Numerous civilians die in the immediate outbreak of violence. Kalibak's boast is quickly cut short as he sees Superman's anger overtaking.

Chapter 23: Kalibak is puzzled by Superman's dark demeanor. Superman punches him into the sky, damaging the jetliner in the process. He continues to furiously attack his opponent as more waves of Parademons appear in cities like Mumbai and Paris. Watching the chaos from the Batcave with his team, Batman knows that the Parademons are targeting the world's most populous cities in order to pinpoint the highest death toll, and that Gotham is close by. Black Canary pleads with him to seek the JLA's help. At the same time, Kalibak retaliated against Superman. In his mind, Superman hasn't changed and that he will still protect his enemies at the cost of innocent lives. Further enraged, Superman uses his heat vision to wipe out hundreds of Parademons. Chapter 24: The Justice League continue to fight a losing battle against the Parademon armies. Kalibak tries to give in to Superman, but Superman is too furious to consider allowing the surrender. He continues to beat up Kalibak, telling him his "daddy" is not there to save him this time. After eventually killing his enemy, Superman is confronted by the Flash, and admits that Kalibak was right about Earth's heroes, causing unnecessary suffering by allowing his enemies to live. When Flash admits that he can't think of a better solution than a wholesale slaughter of the Parademons, Superman flies into space, gathers his power, and begins to destroy armies at hyper-speed of sound. His actions prevent the imminent deaths of Green Arrow and Black Canary, but Batman is upset to see Superman resorting to even more bloody tactics. Amid the rainy ashes of thousands of dead Parademons, Lex Luthor proudly displays Superman as the savior of the world.

Chapter 25: Neither Superman nor Batman are happy with the outcome of the recent war. Superman realizes that he and his handful of allies cannot protect the entire planet. Lex Luthor proposes to build an inhuman army to help the Justice League. At the same time, Batman's team begins to break down, as Huntress and the others voice their newfound support for Superman. To help restore loyalty, Batman reveals his identity to the group. The group is then called upon to stop a riot in Gotham from a Superman-worshipping cult. The rioters are contained just as Superman and Wonder Woman arrive. Superman and Batman look angrily at each other, but Catwoman convinces Batman that the time is not right for a confrontation.

Chapter 26: While locked up in the Fortress of Solitude with Martha and Jonathan Kent, Lex Luthor completes work on a drug that will turn ordinary people into super soldiers. The Kents implore him to understand that their son needs help to deal with his losses, and that Lex may one day be called upon to stop Superman if he falls too far from the line. At the same time, Superman is engaged in an outbreak in a number of high-speed competitions as they discuss the idea of confiscation of the world's weapons supply. As the Flash hits Superman with increased speed, he points out that if their ultimate goal is to save lives, they could also target smokers, scorchers, and even people who don't recycle. Superman studies his fallen king piece and ponders over the problem of how best to use his powers to protect the world.

Chapter 27: Superman reveals his new super-soldier pill to the rest of the Justice League. Damian steals the specimen and returns to the Batcave for the first time since Nightwing's death. Although Alfred is happy to see him, Batman is less enthusiastic. Their conversation quickly escalates to physical violence, and now super-powered Damian accidentally sends Alfred flying into the Bat computer. Hawkgirl arrives and narrowly saves Batman and Robin from being crushed by a giant penny. However, Damian realizes that Hawkgirl is actually a Martian in disguise. He throws an incendiary grenade and makes his escape.

Chapter 28: The Justice League react to revelations that Batman has captured Hawkgirl and replace her with an impostor. Realizing Batman will go to incredible lengths in order to control the fight, Superman decides to strike back. It is broadcast worldwide to announce the message of Batman's betrayal and reveal his identity. Before Superman can actually out of Bruce, Batman initiates the "Icarus Protocol," shutting down the feed and sending the JLA Watchtower plummeting out of orbit. But thanks to the ability of the cyborg and smart Lex Luthor, Superman is able to post information on various social media channels. Batman and Alfred have no choice but to evacuate Wayne Manor and go underground. Alfred confirms his loyalty to Bruce as he first writes his name on a checklist of important items to remove from the estate.

Chapter 29: In the FF sequence, the bleeding Wonder Woman asks Superman to burn her with his vision of heat. Five minutes previous, Superman leads a group of heavyweights to confront Batman in the Batcave. Batman brushes aside Superman's threats to end the Justice League's interference before hovering through the air. Realizing they are dealing with the Martian again, Superman and Wonder Woman chase him into the sky. The Martian shows Superman visions of the death of Mars and Green Martian civilization as a warning against what is coming. He then invades Wonder Woman's body, taunting the two heroes with the revelation that they have always underestimated their powers. Superman finally relents and incinerates the Martian from Wonder Woman's body. J'onn's body falls to Earth, apparently dead, as Batman looks on.

Chapter 30: In this chapter in Injustice Gods Among Us, the comic and destruction of Metropolis takes place six years before the events of Injustice Gods Among Us. A boy named James crashes his bike in the park and saves Superman. After a failed attempt to fix the bike, Superman offers to fly James home. There he leaves to deal with the robbery attempt, but Superman is able to shame the robbers into leaving rather than resorting to physical force. After a quick rendezvous with Lois, Superman returns to James' apartment with a spare tire, starting the boy's mother in the process. In the present, the elder James mourns Superman's fall from grace and loss as the city of the future and "The Man of Yesterday."

Chapter 31: The President is awakened in the middle of the night by Batman who wants him to stage a massive distraction for the Justice League. Green Arrow and Black Canary enter Batman's newest lair, which is hidden under the same-sex restroom building. Batman reveals that Superman is producing his super-soldier drug in the Fortress of Solitude and wants Catwoman, Black Canary, and Captain Atom to accompany him to break into the fortress. The distraction he requested turns out to be a US naval blockade of North Korea. After a brief argument, a green arrow joins the group. Catwoman is able to open the fortress' front door, but Batman is stunned to find the Kents standing inside. He knows that Superman will react painfully to any hint of an attack on his family. But Superman sees through Batman's facade and returns to the fortress in a rage before Batman's team can retreat.

Chapter 32: As Superman looks on with Captain Atom's throat in his hand, his parents go out of their way to calm him down. Captain Atom Beats and tells Superman he had the ability to "do the right thing." Their brawl brings the roof of the fortress sagging, furry green arrow. Outside, Captain Atom notes that the government always believed he had the power to defeat Superman, but he never tried because he chose to serve his country rather than his own desires. Before he can unleash his nuclear energy against Superman, Wonder Woman arrives and impales his armor with a sword. Captain Atom knows his death is near and he decides to take Superman into space so that his self-destruction does not harm the rest of the planet. It explodes, injuring Wonder Woman and showering the planet in HE meteorites. The fate of Superman is unknown.

Chapter 33: Superman recovers from the explosion with only superficial wounds. He races to the fortress to discover Wonder Woman scarred and unconscious. The Flash rushes to his aid, his faith in Batman being shaken by attacks right now. Superman enters the fortress and finds Green Arrow with his parents. Knowing Superman will assume he means to kill the Kents, Green Arrow fights in vain to resist. He eventually decides to sacrifice himself by firing one last arrow from the fortress with a sample of Luthor's super-soldier pill for Batman to find. Ollie's final thoughts are as Superman beats him to death by Black Canary, his "pretty bird."

Chapter 34: Superman continues to pound the green arrow's corpse until his mother grabs his arm. He briefly calms down until realizing that one of the pills has fallen into Batman's hands. At the same time, Batman's team return to base short two members. Batman begs the others to go underground while he analyzes the pill in the Batcave. Catwoman struggles to convince Batman to let her help him. Instead, he kisses her, knocks her out of her dormant gas, and leaves. Back at the fortress, Kents and the holographic projection of Jor-El plead with him to see the reason and not kill Batman. He ignores their requests and flies away. Ma Kent apologizes for raising Clarke properly, while Jor-El apologizes for unleashing him on the world.

Chapter 35: Batman begins to analyze the pills when a mysterious figure appears on the computer screen, telling him to leave. Batman refuses, and moments later Superman arrives. Batman is left with no choice but to detain him until the computer is done with his analysis. As Superman boasts that he's taken down all but one of Gotham's monsters, Bruce retorts by saying that he won't give Clark what he's looking for - physical pain to numb his emotional anguish. As the analysis draws to a close, Superman admits that he doesn't want to kill his old friend, but simply ensure Batman can't interfere with his plans for the world. Superman then breaks Batman's back just like Bane did years ago.

Chapter 36: After a crippled Batman, Superman gloats that he's going to put his old friend away in Arkham with the rest of Gotham's monsters. But when Superman realizes that Batman has been distracting him long enough to allow the computer's analysis to complete, he grows furious and begins torturing Batman to find out where the information was sent. Batman's only response is to tell Superman to remember this day - the day he resorted to torturing someone for a greater good. Superman is then confronted by Alfred. After swallowing the super-soldiers pill, Alfred starts brutally beating Superman, yelling "You won't get to hurt my family anymore!". Alfred carries his master to the teleport, leaving Superman alone in the Batcave. Later, Superman appears before the United Nations with the rest of the Justice League. He informs the world that Batman is a dangerous terrorist, but that he and the League will fight to maintain peace and order.

This concludes the first year of Injustice Gods Among Us with a prequel to the main storyline.
