In 2001, the cartoon "Shrek" was released on world screens, which won the hearts of millions of viewers of different ages. The audience was particularly sympathetic to his characters: Shrek, Princess Fiona and their friends are described with a fair amount of humor and satire. So, who are they - the heroes of the famous cartoon?

Ogre Shrek

The cartoon series about the ogre Shrek mostly features non-original characters. Shrek and his friends came to us from the plots of well-known fairy tales, just their images were slightly corrected and presented in a postmodern light.

The protagonist named Shrek is a typical cannibal giant from Western folklore. This image was first used under this name by the writer William Steig in his children's book Shrek! Based on this work, an entire animated franchise was then filmed.

The hero of the cartoon of the same name has green skin and elongated ears in the form of a tube. Shrek is tall, his stomach bulges a little. The ogre wears a beige canvas shirt, vest, and dark brown pants.

Shrek is unsociable and prefers to live exclusively in the swamps. He does not really favor guests and is most often gloomy. The only one who agrees to tolerate such behavior is the sociable Donkey and Princess Fiona, who sincerely loves the good-natured giant.

The character of the cartoon "Shrek" Princess Fiona

At the beginning of the first part of the franchise, Fiona appears before us as a beautiful princess in human form. She lives in an abandoned castle and is waiting to be rescued by Prince Charming. But instead of the prince, a rude and ugly Shrek comes. He was sent for the princess by a certain Lord Farquaad, promising in return to free the ogre's house from fabulous creatures. Fiona has no choice but to obey and follow the green liberator to the castle of her future fiancé Farquaad. This is how the main cartoon characters get to know each other.

Shrek is not very friendly with the princess. And yet, during their journey, they managed to feel each other's feelings. Then it turns out that a curse prevails over Fiona: at night she becomes as green and ugly as Shrek. After much thought, Fiona gives up her beauty, kisses the unattractive, but devoted and good-natured Shrek, and then turns into an ogre forever.

In subsequent cartoons, Fiona and Shrek got married and had three children.

A donkey

The cartoon is filled with interesting characters, but there are simply unforgettable characters. Shrek sets off to rescue Fiona from the tower along with the annoying Donkey. The donkey talks a lot and may seem silly, but in fact he is just a sociable and good-natured animal.

With his habit of saying out loud everything he thinks, the Donkey annoys the ogre. But it is this hero who manages to convince Shrek that for the sake of his love he must take a chance, go to the wedding ceremony of Fiona and Lord Farquaad and confess his feelings to the princess.

Subsequently, the Donkey will become a friend of the family and will compete for the title of best friend with Puss in Boots. Another juicy fact: the Donkey will have an affair with the Dragon, who guarded Fiona in the castle, the characters will get married and have hybrid children.

Puss in Boots

Not only the ogre Shrek is considered a colorful hero in the animated series. The characters whose names did not leave the lips of enthusiastic children are Puss in Boots, Robin Hood, and the Fairy Godmother.

Puss in Boots appears in the second part of the franchise and becomes a full member of the ensemble of the main characters of the cartoon. He wears a tiny sharp saber on his belt, and also often uses a distraction in battle: he makes big sad eyes, but as soon as the enemy takes pity on him, he hits him in the most vulnerable place.

According to the story, Puss in Boots worked as a hitman before he met an ogre. Fiona's father hired the Cat to eliminate the inconvenient fiancé. But during the attack on the ogre, the Cat choked on his hair, and Shrek did not take advantage of the weakness of the enemy and saved his life. After that, the hot Spanish Cat declared that Shrek had become his friend forever.

The donkey did not like this news: he was jealous of Shrek for the Cat, so for a long time he tried to survive the red purr from their friendly company.

fairy godmother

Shrek found a new life in this project. So the kind Fairy Godmother from the fairy tale about Cinderella suddenly turned into the main antagonist in the second part of the franchise.

In Shrek, the Fairy appears to the viewer as a prudent business woman. She has compromising evidence on the first persons of the fabulous state, including the king. By force, she forces Fiona's father to intervene in his daughter's family relations and make her recognize Prince Charming (the son of the Fairy Godmother) as her husband. However, the intrigues of this heroine go to waste: Shrek still found a way to avoid death and arrived at the ball to free Fiona from evil spells with a kiss. From anger, the Fairy Godmother burst and turned into soap bubbles.

Prince Charming

Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots for two cartoons confront the insidious Prince Charming.

The handsome prince in ordinary fairy tales is a good hero. But in Shrek, this character is the son of the hypocritical Fairy Godmother, and by nature he is a narcissistic, self-confident villain.

In the second part of the franchise, Prince Charming tries to convince Fiona that he is her husband Shrek. Allegedly, Shrek drank the potion and turned into a man specifically for her sake. But this lie is exposed at the end of the animated film. Prince Charming returns to the screens in the third issue: this time he is trying to take the throne from Fiona and Shrek. The villain manages to realize his cunning plan: Fiona and other fairy-tale heroines go underground, while Shrek is trying to convince Prince Arthur that the young man is worthy to rule the Kingdom of Far Far Away.

At the end of the third film, Charming is defeated again, and King Arthur ascends to the throne.

dragon

The most comical couple in the cartoon can be called the Dragon and the Donkey. They met when the Donkey came to rescue Fiona along with Shrek. Being incredibly charming, he immediately won the heart of a big and fiery lady. It was the Dragon on her back that delivered Shrek and Donkey to the church so that they would upset the marriage of Fiona and Lord Farquaad.

Then, in each film, the Dragon helped the main characters to defend their interests. In one of the series, the Donkey and the Dragon get married and they have "dragon faces".

Characters from "Shrek": a list of minor heroes

What other famous fairy-tale characters can be seen in the cartoon about the ogre?

1. Merlin. The famous magician and wizard from British folklore appears in the third part of the franchise.

2. King Arthur. Although the knight of Camelot is a real historical character, in the cartoon the biography of the famous ruler was interpreted a little differently.

3. Rapunzel. The long-haired princess turned out to be a traitor and in the third film of the franchise helped Charming to carry out a coup d'état.

And also Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin and many other heroes of fairy tales appear briefly in Shrek.

Donkey - that was the name of the donkey from the cartoon "Shrek". He was voiced by Eddie Murphy. The main character first appeared in the 1990 children's book Shrek.

Possible name is Gabby.

Character:

The donkey was very talkative and yes, by the way, he could talk and was probably the only talking donkey of his kind. Knowledge of speech is not a sign of intelligence - this is about a hero. He was overly curious and stuck his donkey nose everywhere. The animal was distinguished by excessive cowardice and boastfulness. Although the donkey had a high opinion of himself and just wanted to drive him away, no one did this, since he had innate charisma and charm. In addition, Donkey was an excellent singer and constantly sang something under his breath.

Story:

The character belonged to a peasant woman from the Duloc state, who, after Lord Farquaad issued a decree to collect all the fabulous creatures, was very happy for a handful of coins to hand over the annoying animal.

The donkey was lucky enough to escape into the forest, where he stumbled upon an ogre. The chatty animal followed a new friend who lived in a swamp. The donkey was glad to help the ogre go to Duloc, since his lord sent the fabulous creatures to the swamp that belonged to the giant.

Thus began the adventures of Donkey and Shrek, during which they became best friends. In these adventures, Shrek saved, who later became his wife, and Donkey was lucky to meet a dragon girl.

The ogre got married and went on his honeymoon. The donkey stayed in the swamp to look after the ogre's house. After the return of the newlyweds - the donkey, Shrek and Fiona were waiting for a new adventure. Since Fiona was a princess, her father and mother from the Far Far Far Kingdom wanted to see her.

In the next adventure, a chatty animal and an ogre were waiting for a meeting with Puss in Boots, who became their new companion and friend. The donkey openly disliked the cat, being jealous of Shrek. The donkey was also lucky enough to turn into a horse. In this role, he helped Shrek save his marriage from disaster when Fiona's godmother decided to marry her to her son Prince Charming.

After this story, the donkey was reunited with the dragon, who gave birth to six dragon-donkey hybrids: Eclair girl, Peanut boy, Banana boy, Parfait boy, Coco girl and Debbie girl. So the character became a dad.

Donkey and his dragon

When Shrek suddenly became a contender for the throne of the Kingdom, Donkey and the Cat went on a journey with him to find the true heir to the throne - Arthur. On this journey, the unlucky magician Merlin confused spells and the Donkey became a Cat for a while. Although the donkey hid, he liked being a cat.

After a successful mission to liberate the Kingdom from the attack of Prince Charming, thirsting for revenge, the hero and all his friends returned to the swamp.

Rumpelstiltskin Universe:

After Shrek signed a contract with Rumpelstiltskin, he ended up in another reality where he never existed. Through deceit, Rumpel seized power in the Kingdoms, and Donkey worked for him as a cab driver.

Although he did not immediately, he believed in the words of the ogre, that that friend of his helped him in a difficult task - to return everything to its place.

Description of the cartoon:

Shrek is a green cannibal giant living in a swamp all alone. Suddenly, his calm existence comes to an end: Lord Farquaad, the ruler of the kingdom, expelled the heroes of various fairy tales from his possessions to his swamp. Shrek decides to go to the lord to return everything to its place. Farquaad agrees to return the swamp to the giant on one condition - he must save Princess Fiona, who is in the tower, vigilantly guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. For the sake of his peaceful life in splendid isolation, Shrek will do anything. Therefore, he agrees to a deal and goes to get the princess, but not alone, but with a chatty donkey, whom he accidentally saved from the royal guards.

Main characters:

Shrek lives in a swamp in a small house, and the giant is quite satisfied with his lonely measured life. From the point of view of an ogre, his dwelling is quite cozy and comfortable. He likes to take mud baths, eat toads and fish eyes, in general, Shrek is a real ogre. Shrek is very good-natured and honest, besides, he does not eat people. Believing the giant to be an ordinary cannibal, people attack him from time to time, but usually get scared and run away before they try to attack. The turning point in the fate of Shrek was his meeting with Princess Fiona. Although he shows his indifference to her, feelings begin to arise in his soul.

A donkey

The donkey is curious and talkative, sticking its nose into other people's business everywhere. He is as lonely as Shrek. Therefore, when Shrek saved the donkey from the soldiers of the ruler of the kingdom, he began to consider the giant his friend and impose himself on him. When Shrek went after Fiona, the donkey, without hesitation, followed him. The donkey has an overestimated conceit, he is rather cowardly, but while traveling with Shrek, he also shows his good qualities - enterprise, quick wit, the ability to reason logically and provide friendly support. After visiting Fiona's castle, the donkey had a girlfriend - a dragon guarding the princess.

Princess Fiona

Fiona is a beautiful princess who is imprisoned in a castle under the protection of a dragon. Fiona has imagined many times how the handsome prince on a white horse saves her, so when she sees Shrek and the donkey, she is very upset. At first, she refuses to go to her real fiance Farquad, but later becomes more friendly to the donkey, and begins to develop feelings for Shrek. The princess is very kind and charming, but on occasion she can show character, and in very difficult cases, use martial arts skills.

Princess Fiona as an ogre

Ruler of the magical kingdom of Farquaad

The evil ruler of the kingdom of Farquaad, who sent Shrek to get the princess. He needs Fiona in order to formally become king.

After the dragon saw the donkey for the first time in her castle, she fell in love with it. Her feelings were mutual.

Interesting Facts:

- Shrek is the first animated feature in history to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

Work on the cartoon lasted about 4.5 years.

The actors who voiced the characters never met in the process of working on the cartoon, each worked separately.

At the beginning of the film, about 1000 fairy-tale heroes are driven to the swamp to Shrek.

The only characters who address Shrek by name are the donkey and Princess Fiona. Everyone else calls him an ogre, a giant, a monster, and so on.

All the movements of a donkey are not actually donkeys at all - they are modeled after the movements of a dog.

The annoying and talkative Donkey is the clearest example of a comic partner; in all four cartoons about Shrek, with his general cheerfulness and optimism, the Donkey organically set off the gloomy and stern ogre.

Donkey is one of the main characters in the Shrek ogre series produced by DreamWorks Animation. In all four existing films, he spoke in the voice of Eddie Murphy (Eddie Murphy) in the original version and the voice of actor Vadim Yurievich Andreev in the official Russian translation.

Donkey was first introduced to the audience in the first part of the franchise; a certain old woman - probably the former mistress - tried to hand over the Donkey to the knights of Lord Farquaad (Farquaad). Farquaad plotted to cleanse his domain of magical creatures; buying them from the population was just one of the events organized by him. It was not easy to sell the Donkey - he did not want to demonstrate his ability to speak to the knights; only after the magic dust was waking up on him, he nevertheless revealed his abilities to the world - and thereby confirmed the words of the woman. With great difficulty, Donkey managed to escape from the knights; he escaped largely due to the fact that in the process of flight he met with Shrek. The donkey instantly declared himself a friend of the green ogre - not at all embarrassed that Shrek himself demonstratively did not show friendly feelings for him.

Together with Shrek, Donkey went to save Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon; in exchange for the princess, Lord Farquaad promised Shrek the rights to his beloved swamp. During the "rescue operation", the previously extremely annoying and useless Donkey played a surprisingly large role - as it turned out, the tower was guarded not by a dragon, but by a dragon, and the charm of the Donkey was more than enough to divert her attention.

On the way back, the Donkey managed to make friends with the princess - and even learned the secret of the curse imposed on her. Unfortunately, he did not have time to tell this secret to Shrek - the ogre, who misinterpreted the conversation overheard by chance, quarreled with both Fiona and Donkey. The Donkey returned to the aid of the ogre only at the very end of the cartoon - taking with him the Dragon who fell in love with him in earnest.

By the time the second cartoon began, the romance of the Dragon and the Donkey flared up in earnest; The donkey was pretty puzzled by the strange behavior of his passion - not even suspecting that she was about to lay eggs.

Together with Shrek and Fiona, Donkey went to the Far Far Away kingdom, to visit Fiona's parents. In the course of the story, Shrek and Donkey had to use a magic potion - which turned them from a terrible ogre and an unsightly donkey into a stately fellow and no less stately stallion, respectively; in the form of a beautiful horse, Donkey - and Puss in Boots, who joined Shrek - managed to thwart the insidious plans of the Fairy Godmother. In the end, the enchantment from the heroes was removed and the Donkey - not without regret - found its true form; he did not have to worry for a long time because of the lost beauty, however, he did not have to - almost immediately after the transformation, he found out that he had become the father of three unusual children at once - flying and fire-breathing donkey dragons.

Donkey coped surprisingly decently with his father's duties; however, family obligations did not prevent him from remaining the closest friend of the ogre - and did not make him one iota less intrusive.

Together with Shrek and Puss in Boots, Donkey went in search of Arthur Pendragon, Fiona's cousin and the closest contender to the vacated throne of Far Far Away. During the wanderings, due to the error of the absent-minded sorcerer Merlin (Merlin), the Donkey and the Cat accidentally exchanged bodies; they did not succeed in mastering new forms immediately, but in the end the heroes nevertheless managed. After the positive characters managed to cope with the insidious Prince Charming, who planned to seize the kingdom and avenge the Fairy Godmother killed in the second cartoon, Merlin returned the Cat and the Donkey to their bodies (accidentally, however, mixing up the tails; this little thing corrected itself already to the next scene of the cartoon).

Donkey and his overly brisk children played a significant role in disrupting Shrek's children's holiday at the beginning of the fourth cartoon; to some extent, it was Donkey who provoked a fit of rage in Shrek - which ultimately led to the reckless conclusion of a contract with the evil sorcerer Rumplestiltskin (Rumplestiltskin). In an alternate reality created by contract magic, Donkey briefly "worked" for local witches - using him as a draft animal and a makeshift car radio.

Having escaped from Rumplestiltskin, Shrek took Donkey with him. Over time, the Donkey realized that you can trust Shrek; a friendship developed between them. It soon became clear that the "alternative" Donkey was surprisingly smart and quick-witted - so, he managed to find a loophole in Rumpelstiltskin's contract. Later, Donkey, along with Puss in Boots, saved Fiona from the Gammeln Ratcatcher (Pied Piper) and took part in the attack on Rumpelstiltskin's castle.

Notes

An excerpt characterizing Shrek (character)

Since Prince Andrei had not seen him, Kutuzov had grown fat, flabby and swollen with fat. But the familiar white eye, and the wound, and the expression of weariness in his face and figure were the same. He was dressed in a uniform frock coat (a whip on a thin belt hung over his shoulder) and in a white cavalry guard cap. He, heavily blurring and swaying, sat on his cheerful horse.
“Fu… fu… fu…” he whistled almost audibly as he drove into the yard. His face expressed the joy of reassuring a man who intends to rest after the representation. He pulled his left leg out of the stirrup, falling down with his whole body and grimacing from the effort, with difficulty brought it to the saddle, leaned on his knee, grunted and went down on his hands to the Cossacks and adjutants who supported him.
He recovered, looked around with his narrowed eyes, and looking at Prince Andrei, apparently not recognizing him, walked with his diving gait to the porch.
“Fu… fu… fu,” he whistled and looked back at Prince Andrei. The impression of Prince Andrei's face only after a few seconds (as is often the case with old people) was associated with the memory of his personality.
“Ah, hello, prince, hello, my dear, let’s go ...” he said wearily, looking around, and heavily entered the porch, creaking under his weight. He unbuttoned and sat down on a bench on the porch.
- Well, what about the father?
“Yesterday I received news of his death,” said Prince Andrei shortly.
Kutuzov looked at Prince Andrei with frightened open eyes, then took off his cap and crossed himself: “Kingdom to him in heaven! May the will of God be over all of us! He sighed heavily, with all his chest, and was silent. “I loved and respected him and I sympathize with you with all my heart.” He embraced Prince Andrei, pressed him to his fat chest and did not let go for a long time. When he released him, Prince Andrei saw that Kutuzov's swollen lips were trembling and there were tears in his eyes. He sighed and grabbed the bench with both hands to stand up.
“Come, come to me, we’ll talk,” he said; but at this time Denisov, as little shy before his superiors as before the enemy, despite the fact that the adjutants at the porch stopped him in an angry whisper, boldly, banging his spurs on the steps, entered the porch. Kutuzov, leaving his hands resting on the bench, looked displeasedly at Denisov. Denisov, having identified himself, announced that he had to inform his lordship of a matter of great importance for the good of the fatherland. Kutuzov began to look at Denisov with a tired look and with an annoyed gesture, taking his hands and folding them on his stomach, he repeated: “For the good of the fatherland? Well, what is it? Speak." Denisov blushed like a girl (it was so strange to see the color on that mustachioed, old and drunken face), and boldly began to outline his plan for cutting the enemy's line of operations between Smolensk and Vyazma. Denisov lived in these parts and knew the area well. His plan seemed undoubtedly good, especially in terms of the force of conviction that was in his words. Kutuzov looked at his feet and occasionally looked back at the yard of a neighboring hut, as if he was expecting something unpleasant from there. Indeed, during Denisov's speech, a general appeared from the hut he was looking at with a briefcase under his arm.
- What? - in the middle of Denisov's presentation, Kutuzov said. - Ready?
“Ready, your grace,” the general said. Kutuzov shook his head, as if to say: "How can one person do all this," and continued to listen to Denisov. Based on the cartoon "Shrek" and its sequels

The first mention of the character is found in the sinister legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The magic pipe that drives out rats is in the fairy tale about the boy Niels by the famous author Lagerlöf. The Pied Piper in the Shrek cartoon has an even more functional pipe that tunes to witches, ogres and even socks! Apparently this was done to give irony to this hero, just like he was in the legend: tall, thin and gloomy. This mysterious character meets the ogres instead of Rumplestiltskin, and makes the warlike ogres dance, but the Donkey (who was not affected by magic) takes Shrek and Fiona away from the insidious music.

5 1 0

Princess Far Far Away, daughter of King Harold. Shrek's wife from the first part.

In Shrek Forever After, she was the top commander of the ogres against Rumplestiltskin. This character is an analogue of the main characters of such fairy tales as Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast (also known as classic Disney cartoons) exactly the opposite, parodying the image of the classic "Disney princess".

Princess Fiona has become a prisoner of evil spells, which, with the onset of the night hour, turn her into a terrible green monster. Only a kiss of love can restore her "true appearance." Being saved by Shrek from the dragon tower, Fiona is indignant because she expected to see a handsome prince. Shrek does not care much about her feelings - he acted only in his personal interests, since the narcissistic Lord Farduad "ordered" him to save the princess. But in the end, Shrek feels that Princess Fiona bears little resemblance to an ordinary girl and gradually becomes attached to her. The result of this story is their mutual love, and Fiona acquires a "true" appearance, remaining a giantess.

Rumpelstitzkin's strange magical goose seems to be the only living thing to which he is truly attached. It is with her feathers that the insidious contracts of the cunning little man are signed. Before becoming the master of Fiona's parents' castle, Rumpelstiltskin rode around in a wagon drawn by his goose and looked for fools who dreamed of fulfilling some desire. Perhaps Fifi, the magic goose, is borrowed from the fairy tale "Dwarf Nose" (with the difference that in this fairy tale, the goose serves good and helps the dwarf get rid of evil spells).
