Squirrel with a pencil in stages. How to draw a squirrel with a pencil step by step

How to draw a squirrel

One of the activities that fascinates almost all children is drawing. Over the years, this hobby gives way to other more important things. And in vain! Drawing, we relax, recharged with creative energy.

Drawing is not only an interesting activity, but also a useful one. Follow our clear instructions and you will have a beautiful drawing that you can proudly show to your friends.

In this article, we will consider several options for how to draw a squirrel. If you want to draw a fluffy and nimble rodent with your child, then pay attention to the simplest schematic drawings. For beginners, below are various schemes and step-by-step lessons.

How to draw a squirrel in stages with a pencil for children and beginners?

After walking in the park or watching a cartoon in which one of the characters is a squirrel, your child may ask you to help him draw this animal. Don't rush to say no. Try to draw a real forest squirrel with him, and perhaps you will also get something “masterpiece”.

You can pick up a beautiful photo of a squirrel and try to draw it yourself with a simple pencil. But if you do not have enough experience, then it is better to take the advice of professional artists who give detailed instructions for drawing an animal in their step-by-step lessons.

The features of such a graceful animal are difficult to convey without having a hand in other drawings. This material is for everyone who decides to draw a "real" squirrel with a pencil and "revive" it with paints.

Squirrels are very graceful animals.

To draw a fluffy squirrel, arm yourself with a soft pencil (it can be 4H, 2B or 6B) and a sheet of paper. It is more convenient for both children and adults to draw using geometric shapes for primary contours.

By inscribing details in a circle or square, it is easier to give it the desired shape in the future. Don't disregard this advice. Even experienced artists use this method.

Remember that the pencil does not need to be pressed in the first stages of drawing. Otherwise, the whole drawing will then look not neat.

Step 1:

  • Let's draw the main auxiliary lines. Let's draw two circles. The body of a squirrel is a large oval. It can be depicted as a large egg, which occupies 1/3 of the sheet, with the side narrowed upwards. We draw it with an inclination to the right side.
  • Next to the top of this oval, draw a circle (the size of the large oval should be equal to three small circles). This will be the head of the squirrel.
  • The accuracy of the primary contours determines how accurate the resulting image of the squirrel will be. Therefore, at the first stages, it is worth trying to repeat everything exactly as in the presented sketch.

Step 2:

  • Let's outline the approximate contours of the squirrel legs.
  • It will be much easier to maintain proportions in the drawing if you use the markings from small circles. This technique will allow you to determine where to start drawing the legs of the squirrel and how thick they should be.
  • The front legs of the squirrel are short. Let's draw them using two circles: a small one is a "squirrel's hand", a large one is a squirrel's elbow. Let's draw a small arc above the small circle, thus depicting the second front foot.
  • The hind legs of a squirrel are long, like those of a rabbit or a cat. Depict the squirrel's knees in a small circle. You should end up like this:

Step 3:

  • At this stage, we will draw the outlines of the ears, muzzle and bushy tail. This step just seems complicated. In fact, it is enough just to exactly repeat all the lines, as in the figure, while maintaining the desired proportions.
  • Outline the tail. Draw long ears on the squirrel's head. The outline of the head drawn earlier will be slightly corrected, showing the outline of the muzzle and cheeks.
  • With a circle we will depict the place where the squirrel's eye will be located. As you can see, the animal is becoming more and more like a real squirrel.

Step 4:

  • Now we will draw the small details of the picture and refine its contours. Please note: the squirrel's tail is divided into two halves by a curved line. This will help visually add volume to it.
  • Let's draw the fingers on the front and hind legs, draw a muzzle and finish the eye - a circle slightly pointed downwards.
  • We erase all auxiliary lines and erroneous strokes, but try not to touch the work path with the eraser. Look how fast we did the squirrel drawing! There is still quite a bit left. Do not stop halfway: the squirrel has not yet “overgrown” with hair and it does not have small button eyes.

Step 5:

  • Let's draw the nose of the squirrel and refine the shape of the eye. Let's start drawing the skin of the squirrel and the long fluffy hair on the tail. To make the tail fluffy, draw long and thin strokes, as in the picture.
  • Walk with a pencil along the body of the squirrel, over the head. Draw the hair on the ears and shade the darker areas with short lines.
  • At the final stage, you can take colored pencils and paint over the drawing in orange. Paint dark areas brown.

Adults will like to draw the previous drawing more. For children, the following way of drawing a squirrel is suitable:

Let's depict this design: an elongated ellipse, from which the squirrel's body will later turn out, we will attach a circle to it - the head, add a tail and draw the paws schematically. This is what should be on your piece of paper:

Let's draw squirrel contours in our design: make the head more elongated, add ears with tassels, fingers, draw a muzzle.

Let's draw a fluffy tail: it should look voluminous. With a curved line we denote the tummy of the squirrel. Let's draw a cute fungus in the paws. Optionally, you can depict both a nut and a berry in the paws of a squirrel.

Let's remove the auxiliary lines. Add a smiling mouth to the squirrel and a big eye. With short strokes, outline the fur on the stomach.

The squirrel drawing is almost ready. We will decorate it with an orange pencil or felt-tip pen. Decorate the mushroom with two colors: dark brown - a hat and light - a leg.

To make the squirrel look more realistic, let's draw a few light areas: on the cheeks, on the paws and on the tail.

How to draw a squirrel on a tree?

To draw a squirrel on a tree, you need to decide how exactly the animal will be depicted: sitting on a tree or preparing to jump onto another tree.

Drawing of a funny squirrel, resembling a character from one of the cartoons, is performed in several stages according to the same scheme:

  • three circles are drawn, which will then become the body, chest and head of the animal
  • the circles are connected, and then the eyes, nose, paws, tail of the squirrel are drawn
  • after we draw a squirrel, we “seat” it on a branch and decorate it

In this figure a squirrel is depicted, which prepared to jump. It is better to draw a branch under a squirrel at an angle.

You can draw a squirrel on a tree in a different way. To do this, we need two simple pencils: hard and soft. We will draw the initial contours with a hard one, and we will need a soft one to refine and detail the drawing.

  • Draw with a hard pencil. With a rectangle, mark the place on the sheet (in the upper third) where we will place the squirrel. If this is not done, then the drawing may “leave out” or not fit into the sheet at all.
  • Draw a circle and draw a diagonal in it. Now let's outline the squirrel's head around the circle. See the picture for how to do it.

  • Draw the eye diagonally. The ears are two cones. Let's draw a muzzle. As you can see, it's not difficult at all.
  • Let's draw a curved line from the head down. This will be the back of the squirrel. Let's draw an elongated oval at the bottom. This will be the thigh of the squirrel. Add the front paw and draw the line of the abdomen. Now you can mark the second hind leg with a short line. Let's draw the fingers.

  • Let's put a squirrel on a branch. These are two parallel uneven lines that are drawn at a slight slope. Let's add a big fluffy tail, a peeking part of the front paw and a nut. We have dealt with the basis for the squirrel.

  • With short dashed lines, paint over the peeking front and back paws, a nut, add shadows on the ears, shade the lower abdomen. We paint over the eye, not forgetting that we need to leave a round white highlight.

  • Change the pencil to a soft one. We begin with short lines to draw protruding hair on the back, lower abdomen, tail, thigh. Add fur on the squirrel's forehead. Here it is very important not to overdo it, and exactly repeat the direction of the wool and the length as in the figure.

  • With the index finger, we begin to smear the drawn lines, without affecting the area of \u200b\u200bthe eyes, nose and main contours. Again, draw the wool along the edges, pressing more on the pencil.

  • We shade the area around the ears. Now we take the eraser and begin to “draw” with it, as we drew short dashed lines with a pencil in the direction of hair growth: between the ears, on the nose, near the eyes, on the cheek, on the elbow, at the top of the thigh, on the tummy and tail. Slightly lubricate the boundaries of the resulting lines.

And here is a version of a very cheerful squirrel on a tree:

How easy is it to draw a squirrel by cells?

Children love to draw on the cells. Such an exciting activity is very useful: the child will not only pass the time in silence, but will also improve hand coordination and concentration.

Graphic dictations, namely the so-called drawings by cells, develop logical thinking.

To draw a squirrel by cells, you just need to find the drawing you like and make a calculation for the cells of the animal figurine.

But if your child decides to transfer a drawing of a squirrel from a postcard or photograph onto paper, then the following scheme will help him:

  • You need to move from the bottom of the picture, gradually moving higher and higher along the rows of cells. First, you need to draw the legs on which the squirrel sits, then “complete” the torso, large tail and head of the squirrel with the help of cells.
  • The eye of a squirrel is one cell in the center of the head.
  • You can depict a squirrel sitting on a tree or stump.

How to draw a squirrel from the fairy tale about Tsar Saltan?

To draw a squirrel from the fairy tale about Tsar Saltan, we will need to create a real illustration with an episode in which the squirrel sits in a crystal house and gnaws nuts with a golden shell.

  • Let's start drawing a house for the squirrel. Use a ruler to keep the walls straight. Of course, you can draw such a house as in the Soviet cartoon. But we draw with children, therefore we will simplify the “squirrel” dwelling a little.
  • Let's draw a rectangle, "hoist" a triangle on it, and draw 2 more rectangles on the sides. Separate the columns and draw the entrance. You can draw a ladder, but for us it is just a slide-descent.
  • Draw a squirrel at the top of the house. Decorate the house: add various carved elements.

Draw a rectangle and on it - a triangle

Add columns and descent

How to draw this fluffy animal? Don't be afraid - it's not that hard. Of course, in order to depict such a believable squirrel as in the photograph, you need to be a real master. But we'll start small!

The main thing is courage and faith in one's own strength. We will draw simple squirrels, but very cute. And we will do it confidently, step by step. I have prepared for you several diagrams, thanks to which you will understand how easy it is to draw an animal. If you work with all the schemes, you will get a whole kingdom of squirrels!

Of course, at first your squirrel will look like a strange construction of geometric shapes. But it is from her that a wonderful animal will soon turn out. Therefore, remember: you need to draw with a simple pencil lightly, not pressing very hard on the paper - after all, then you will need to erase some auxiliary lines. So it is desirable that after that they do not leave ugly traces.

Can you draw such a squirrel with a mushroom:

Or this little animal with a sly look:

And here is a serious focused squirrel, which is probably going to jump onto another tree:

And this is a cheerful squirrel on a branch:

Practice drawing animals step by step, and soon you will learn to independently determine the necessary preparatory steps. Then you will be able to redraw the animals that you like, or even depict them as your memory and fantasy tells you!

The little red squirrel is a character that can often be found in fairy tales and cartoons. It is not surprising that children who are engaged in fine arts choose a squirrel as the heroine of their paintings. Parents often help in this process. But not everyone knows how to draw a squirrel in stages for children.

Step-by-step lessons will help you draw not only simple, but also complex images of a squirrel.

Using a simple technique, you can easily draw a squirrel in stages, even if the child does not know how to draw.

This lesson is specially designed by art teachers for children:

  1. With a pencil on a landscape sheet, draw two ovals - the top one should be half the size of the bottom one. The upper oval can be drawn tilted to the side. This will be the head of the future squirrel.
  2. On the left side, starting from the bottom of the large oval, draw a fluffy ponytail, an eye with a small tassel, an eye and a left paw.
  3. From the middle of the second oval, draw a semicircle - this is the division for the legs of the squirrel.
  4. Draw a pair of legs and an acorn cap.
  5. Draw the second ear, nose and mouth. Draw an acorn, which the squirrel holds firmly with both paws.
  6. Draw a small oval in the eyes with cilia and paint over everything except it with black.
  7. Decorate the squirrel as desired. It can be, for example, a reddish-orange color.

Simple drawing for little kids

  1. On top of the sheet where the drawing will be located, draw a large circle. You can draw by hand or use a compass.
  2. Draw a curved line from the bottom of the circle to the bottom third of the circle. At the bottom of the line draw 2 circles - one inside the other. This is the nose of a squirrel.
  3. Draw 2 circles to the curved line - medium and small. On the lower circle of medium size, draw a fluffy tail on the right side. On a small circle, between the large and medium ones, draw the upper paw.
  4. Divide the large circle with a curved line. On the left, right from the edge of the left side of the circle, draw one oval eye, and in the middle of the second part of the circle - the second. On top of the circle, draw ears with a sharp end.
  5. On the lower circle, draw an oblong arc - this is the lower foot of the squirrel.
  6. Erase extra strokes from the pencil.
  7. Draw the fur using the vertical hatching technique. Draw eyelashes, eyebrows, antennae, two protruding teeth.
  8. Draw a branch with leaves under the lower foot of the squirrel.
  9. Decorate the squirrel with colored pencils, felt-tip pen or paints.

Drawing of a squirrel for children to draw

There is another, more complex technique designed for children and beginner artists who do not know how to draw a squirrel in stages:

How to draw a squirrel from the cartoon "Ice Age"

If the child has mastered the skills of drawing an animal in simple techniques, then you can move on to a realistic image of the animal:

Protein by cells in a notebook

Children who are already familiar with numbers and count fluently can draw in the cells. Graphic dictation will help develop fine motor skills of hands, attention and logic, and consolidate counting skills.

Dictation - drawing is better to start from the bottom of the picture and gradually move up.

You need to dictate like this:

  1. Retreat one cell to the left.
  2. Draw a line 5 cells long.
  3. 1 cell up.
  4. 3 cells to the right.

With children older than 9-10 years old, you can try to complete more difficult schemes.

How to draw a 3D squirrel

Recently, drawings with the 3D effect are gaining more and more popularity among artists. This effect is achieved through an unusual drawing technique, and in some cases, cutting out individual elements of the picture and folding.

The presented video tutorial and step-by-step instructions will make it easy to master the art of three-dimensional graphics:

  1. First you need to draw a piece of ice with an acorn stuck inside. Scratty the squirrel tries to pull it out. Try to draw with light movements, without pressure on the pencil.
  2. Re-circle the silhouette, finish the pupils and sharp teeth.
  3. Paint over the entire pattern with vertical strokes, and then lightly walk with an elastic band to evenly color.
  4. Then darken the back of the squirrel, the right side of the tail, the bottom of the nut. Draw the shadow of a squirrel from a piece of ice to the tail.
  5. Using thin scissors, cut out excess paper around the muzzle and tail. Fold the sheet in half. Put the picture on the bottom.

How to draw a squirrel mask step by step

Mask #1

Mask No. 2 template-base

Template - muzzle and ears

Finished mask

Children like to try on different masks. One of them can be a squirrel mask. The considered techniques will help you easily and quickly create a mask for children. It's as easy as drawing a squirrel in a sketchbook.

For phased work you will need:

  2. Carefully cut out two large holes for the eyes and two small holes for the elastic on the orange base.
  3. Measure the elastic from ear to ear and cut off, adding 5 cm to the required length.
  4. Thread and fasten the elastic into the required holes.
  5. Glue the muzzle and ears to hide the holes from the elastic.
  6. Draw a nose with a black felt-tip pen or gouache. The mask is ready.

Complex and realistic example of a squirrel

Step by step instructions:

Experienced artists can move on to more complex and detailed squirrel drawings:

  1. Using a hard pencil, draw the outline of the squirrel.
  2. Using the vertical hatching method, draw the ears and fur on the tail. Where the tail is in contact with the back, you need to darken the strokes a lot.
  3. Using a soft pencil, darken the ears, the area around the eyes, paws and tail. Re-darken the area where the tail meets the back. With the same pencil, darken the ground around the squirrel.
  4. Using a hatching method, using a hard pencil, apply the main tone. Strokes should be short and almost invisible.

The presented lessons not only show how to draw a squirrel in stages for children, but also motivate novice artists to move to new heights of fine art from simple to complex.

Perhaps the most fun activity is drawing, especially if you draw with kids. This is where unlimited spaces of imagination, fantasy and possibilities are revealed. Kids love animals very much, so they often ask: “Show me how to draw a squirrel, bear, hare, fox!” What if mommy can't? Master classes in drawing all the flora and fauna come to the rescue, so drawing a squirrel will not be difficult even for those who hold a pencil for the first time in their lives.

Drawing will take place in several stages.

4. With smooth lines we outline the contours of the squirrel, smoothing the lines of the neck, and slightly stretch the muzzle. Outline the almond-shaped eyes, nose and small triangular ears. At the next stage, draw a tail - narrow at the bottom and fluffy at the top. We gain volume on the front paws, making them plump, but graceful.

5. With an eraser, we overwrite the extra sketch lines, draw ears, eyes, fingers with small claws, fur on the neck, paws, tail and abdomen.

6. Draw the antennae, small tassels on the ears. Optionally, you can draw a background of leaves, nut shells, dried mushrooms and berries. You can color the picture or pencils. Our drawing "Squirrel" is ready!

If you do not want to build complex graphic compositions from geometric shapes, there is an easier option on how to draw a squirrel. Do this with smooth rounded lines, as shown in the figure above. Just a few touches of a pencil, and a funny squirrel appeared in front of us, which even a kid can draw. The main thing is to know the characteristic squirrel features: small front paws, a large fluffy tail and almond-shaped black eyes on a neat muzzle. Now you know how to draw a squirrel quickly and easily.

It is very fun to draw a squirrel in stages, following the visual instructions. Your joint creativity with the baby can turn into exciting developmental activities, from which you will get a lot of impressions and invaluable experience. And most importantly - the question of how to draw a squirrel will no longer cause difficulties!

“The squirrel sings songs, but gnaws everything nuts” - lines from a well-known fairy tale that made a small red animal with a fluffy tail a universal favorite. With great pleasure in the park, children and adults watch the agile and nimble squirrel descending from the trees to feast on the treats offered by them.

In this lesson, which tells about how to draw a squirrel in stages, recommendations of varying degrees of complexity are specially selected for children, so that each artist can choose the most suitable way for himself.

Complex and realistic example

The proposed way of drawing a real squirrel explains how children can draw a squirrel in stages with a pencil. In addition to visualization in the form of pictures, it contains a detailed description, which will allow even novice artists to depict the animal very realistically.

Stage 1

Any good drawing starts with a good sketch. For a squirrel, the most suitable sketch should contain the main elements: an oval of the body and a slightly elongated oval of the head, across which an auxiliary line is drawn to mark the muzzle.

Stage 2
To this base are added lines outlining the paws, ears and the famous fluffy tail. The sketch is ready and you can proceed to the details.

Stage 3
Detailing is most convenient to start with smaller elements of the muzzle. Just above the auxiliary line, an almond-shaped eye is drawn. It can be painted right away.

Then, at the more pointed edge of the head, just below that line, the mouth is marked, as shown in the figure.

The outlined ears are worked out as follows: an open part is added on the left visible one, the far right one remains unchanged for now. The head is connected to the body along the back with a smooth line. The entire contour is outlined with hatching that imitates wool.

Stage 4
In a similar way, the head is connected to the body along the neck and antennae are added.

Stage 5
Of the parts that require drawing, there were paws. They should be done now, after which the entire contour of the animal is hatched. Particular attention should be paid to the fluffy tail.

Stage 6
All auxiliary lines are removed. If necessary, the contours are specified, after which you can proceed to the skin. First, shadow parts and elongated hairs above the eyes are drawn with denser shading.

Then the whole squirrel is shaded with lighter lines. The tummy can be left completely white, and the hairs on the tail can be drawn longer and clearer.

For children 8 years old

A simpler, but no less interesting way to draw a squirrel in stages, similar to a real animal, is offered below for children 8 years old. It is quite understandable and accessible to young artists. The view of the squirrel will be from the side and a little from above, as if showing that it is small.
The image should start from the head. The shape is shown in the picture below.

It depicts ears and eyes.

On the head, a spout and the inside of the ear are added. From the lower right edge, the image of the body of the squirrel begins. It resembles a circle, slightly elongated towards the head.

The front paws are drawn in a pose characteristic of the animal - under the muzzle, as if it were gnawing nuts.

Extra lines are removed, and the squirrel is ready for coloring.

For children 5 years old

A funny cartoon character can turn out if you draw a squirrel using the option below for children 5 years old. He explains how to draw a squirrel step by step.
First, a muzzle is drawn. Its shape is a circle cut off at the top.

Eyes, ears, mouth and nose are drawn on the head.

A chic big tail is added and the character is ready.

Easy Example

Another way for children, telling how easy it is to draw a squirrel. By gradually following all the recommendations, you can get a very cute and funny animal with a nut in its paws. Quite simple lines and the lack of complex detail will appeal to less experienced artists.

The main image is being prepared, consisting of a drawing of a fairly large head and a small torso.

The proposed version of the image of the head is simplified as much as possible: two small ears on top, one eye on the visible side, a nose and a smiling mouth.

At the very end, pairs of paws are added, and a nutlet is drawn in the front ones. The finished image can be filled with color.
