Founded in 1938 in the Korean city of Daegu, Samsung began by exporting food products to Manchuria and China, then moved on to food production, and after the end of the Korean Peninsular War, its scope of activity continued to expand continuously, covering all new high-tech industries.
In 1969, Samsung Electronics Corporation was formed as a result of a merger with Sanyo Electric.
By the end of 1973, the construction of a factory for the production of household appliances was completed, and in 1974 the production of refrigerators and washing machines (model SEW-200W) began.
In 1993, the corporation's exports (for the first time among Korean firms) exceeded $10 billion.
Today's Samsung washing machines use state-of-the-art technologies, such as the Fuzzy Logic electronic control system (Sensor Quiet and Sensor Quick series), thanks to which energy consumption is reduced to 1.6 kWh, water consumption is reduced to 45 liters, and washing duration is reduced to 95 min (all data refer to washing cotton at 95°C).
The original Can Balance balancing system, used in the Sensor Quiet series washing machines (model SWF 1200), allows you to effectively eliminate load imbalance in the drum. The balls located in the front and back of the drum move in the direction opposite to the place where the imbalance occurs, compensating for the uneven distribution of the laundry (Fig. 1).

The noise level during the operation of washing machines of this series is 53.4 dB, the vibration amplitude is about 0.3 mm (for conventional machines - about 1.9 mm). A new balancing system has replaced traditional counterweights. The “triple waterfall” system used in Samsung washing machines consists in irrigating the laundry with jets of water flowing from three ribs on the inner surface of the drum. The tanks of washing machines are made of plastic, and although the company has not registered a special name for it, the quality of this substance is not inferior to the quality of materials used by Western European manufacturers.
The original development of the company is the Jod Dial multifunction rotary switch, which allows the user to effortlessly switch to the desired washing program.
The technical characteristics of some Samsung washing machines are given in Table. one.

Let's get acquainted with Samsung front-loading washing machines using the Sensor Quick series products as an example. Their general view is shown in Fig. 2 and 3. The machines are built according to the classical scheme and are easily recognizable by the characteristic "corner" in the upper right part of the loading hatch door.

On fig. 4 shows a view of the control panels of Samsung Sensor Quick series washing machines.

The elements of these panels have the following purpose:
- Detergent dispenser hopper.
- Field of indicators. It contains a digital display (in some models), as well as indicators of the selected operating modes of the machine. The digital display shows the remaining washing time, error messages, etc.
- Temperature selection button (“Temp.”). When it is pressed successively, the washing modes are selected in cold water, at 30 ° C, 40 ° C, 60 ° C and 95 ° C.
- Button for selecting the speed of rotation of the drum during the spin cycle ("Spin speed"). When it is pressed successively, the spin modes are selected:
Models SWV-1200F/P1291: No spin, Stop before spin, 400 rpm, 600 rpm, 800 rpm, 1000 rpm and 1200 rpm.
Model SWV-1100F: No spin, Stop before spin, 400 rpm, 600 rpm, 800 rpm, 1000 rpm and 1100 rpm.
Models SWV-1000F/P1091: No spin, Stop before spin, 400 rpm, 600 rpm, 800 rpm and 1000 rpm. - Button "Delay Start" ("Delay Start", in some models). When it is pressed in succession in 1 hour increments, the delay time for the start of the machine operation is entered (from 1 to 24 hours).
- "Course" button. Used to select a washing program (Cotton, Wool, Delicates, etc.).
- "Manual" button. When it is pressed successively, the following combinations of the machine's workflows are passed:
(Wash + Rinse + Spin) - (Prewash + Wash + Spin) - (Spin) -(Rinse once + Spin) - (Rinse twice + Spin) - (Rinse three times + Spin).
Model R6091:
(Wash + Rinse + Spin) - (Prewash + Wash + Spin) - (Spin) - (Rinse three times + Spin).
The prewash mode is only applicable to cotton, synthetic and delicate fabrics. - Button "Start / Pause" ("Start / Pause"). Used to stop and restart the machine.
- Hatch door opening button ("Door Open", in some models). Serves to open the car hatch door.
- Button "ON / OFF" ("On / Off"). The first press turns the machine on, the second time it turns it off. If no button is pressed for 10 minutes after turning on the machine, the machine will automatically turn off.
- Button "No spin" ("No Spin", in some models). Enters the spin cancel program.
- Button "Stop before spinning" ("Spin Hold", in some models). Enters the program to stop the machine with water in the tank before spinning.
Fault messages
If a malfunction occurs, an audible signal sounds, and the display shows a fault code flashing at intervals of 0.5 seconds. The electric motor of the machine and any other elements of the electric drive are switched off until the malfunction is eliminated.
- Malfunction of the water supply system(message E1).
The message appears if, during water filling, the change in the carrier frequency of the water level sensor does not exceed 50 Hz or if the set water level is not reached for at least 20 minutes. To reset the message, turn off the machine with the "ON / OFF" button and turn it on again. - Malfunction of the water drain system (E2).
The message appears if the carrier frequency is less than or equal to 25.3 kHz at the beginning of the load imbalance detection cycle in the drum. To reset the message, turn off the machine with the "ON / OFF" button and turn it on again. - Overflow (EZ).
The message appears when the water level in the tank is too high, which corresponds to the level sensor carrier frequency value of 22.4 kHz or higher. Reset is made by the KL button. If the carrier frequency exceeds 25.24 kHz, the water is forced to drain for 2 minutes. - Access door open (dE).
To remove the message, close the hatch door. - Unbalance of laundry in the drum (E4).
To reset the message, turn off the machine with the "ON / OFF" button and turn it on again. - Heating element malfunction (E5 and E6).
The message appears when, after turning on the heating element, the water temperature changes by more than 40°C within 5 minutes, or changes by less than 2°C within 10 minutes. Resetting is done with the ON/OFF button. - Level switch malfunction (E7).
The abnormal values of the carrier frequency of the level sensor are considered to be 30.00 kHz (upper level of the water inlet) and 15.00 kHz (lower level). It is considered a fault when one of these frequency values is held for 5 seconds or longer. When this fault occurs, the drain is turned on for 3 minutes, after which the drain pump is turned off and a fault message appears on the display. - Abnormal temperatures (E8).
Values of 60°C or more for synthetic fabrics, 45°C or more for delicate fabrics, 45°C or more for wool are considered abnormal. If the water temperature is abnormal when pouring water into the tank, forced draining of water within 2 minutes (as in case of overflow).
The troubleshooting algorithm is given in Table. 2

3 | The water inlet is finished, but the wash does not start. | Check the contacts and serviceability of the level switch, the presence of kinks on the tube going to it, its tightness. Check the operation of the level switch. If all these parameters are normal, replace the control board. |
4 | The water inlet is not finished yet, but the washing has already begun. | Control board defective. Replace control board. |
5 | The drum does not rotate during washing. | Check if the drive belt is correctly fitted. Check the integrity of the windings of the rotor, stator and tachogenerator of the electric motor, as well as the fuse. |
6 | When washing, the drum rotates in one direction only. | Control board defective. Replace control board. |
7 | Bad drain. | Check for kinks on the drain hose, the integrity of the drain pump winding, clean the drain pump filter. If all these parameters are normal, replace the control board. |
8 | Bad pressing. | Unbalance of laundry in the drum. Redistribute the laundry and restart the machine. |
9 | Increased spin noise. | Check drive belt tension. Check if the transport fasteners have been removed. Make sure the machine is installed on a level and stable floor. |
10 | The safety shutdown device is activated. When washing knocks out the machine on the shield |
Check the grounding of the washing machine. Overloading when the washing machine and other electrical appliances are running at the same time. Wash in cold water (without using the heating element). |
11 | No water heating. | Check the contacts of the heating element and measure its resistance (normally 20.5 ... 21.5 Ohm) If all these parameters are normal, replace the control board. |
Attention: the control board of the washing machine is filled with polyurethane, so its individual components cannot be replaced, and the circuits of the board cannot be checked with a tester probe. When replacing the board, be careful not to damage the protective coating. Discharge of static electricity before handling the board.
Test mode
To enter the test mode (Fig. 5):

The sequence of stages of testing the motor group:
EC opening for prewash (0.3 sec) - OFF (0.3 sec) - Main wash (0.3 sec) - OFF (0.3 sec) - EC opening for rinse (0.3 sec) - OFF ( 0.3 sec) - Drain pump on (0.3 sec) - OFF (0.3 sec) - Motor relay 1 on (0.3 sec) - OFF (0.3 sec) - Motor relay 2 on (0, 3 sec) - OFF (0.3 sec) - Motor relay 2 on (0.3 sec) - OFF (0.3 sec) - Heating element relay on (0.3 sec) - OFF (0.3 sec) - Opening hatch door (this mode lasts as long as the door remains closed).

The value of the parameter H and the resistance of the stator and rotor windings depend on the type of electric motor used in a particular machine. These values are given in table. 3.

On fig. 8 shows the hatch blocking device. The nominal resistance of the solenoid winding is 210 Ohm±10%.

The heating element of the washing machine with a power of 2000 W has a nominal resistance of 23-29 ohms and is equipped with a protective fuse at 128 ° C.
Disassembly and assembly of the washing machine
Top cover (Fig. 9).

- Unscrew the two fixing screws on the back of the machine.;
- Slide the cover back 15 mm and lift it up.
- Access to the transformer, level switch and noise filter is provided.
Front panel (fig. 10 and 11).

- Remove the top cover and detergent dispenser hopper.
- Unscrew the two screws securing the control panel from the front and one screw on the right.
- Using a screwdriver, separate the front panel on the left side.
- By pulling out the lever, the plinth panel is separated (except for the P 6091 model).

- Remove the mounting clamp and hatch seal.
- Remove eight screws securing the front panel.
Access to the heating element, drain pump, shock absorbers and hatch door lock is opened.
Drive belt (fig. 12).
- Remove the top cover.
- Remove the belt from the pulley.
- When reassembling, first put the belt on the drive pulley 1, then on the driven pulley 2, placing the belt in the center of the pulley.

Error E1 (4E) in Samsung washing machines, it may occur when water is filled with water if the machine cannot reach the programmed level within 20 minutes. The defect may be due to the low pressure of water in the tap, the filter may be clogged, or problems in the water intake valve, level sensor, electronic module.
E2 (5E)- the drain is not working or clogged, the drain pump, level sensor, electronic module may be damaged.
E3 (OE)- operation of the relay "overflow" of the level sensor. It is necessary to check the level sensor of the drain pump, the water intake valve, the electronic module
E4 (UE)- there is no balancing of the drum. The laundry in the drum is missing or unevenly distributed, you need to make sure that the drive of the electric motor, the electronic module is working.
E5 (HE1), E6 (HE2), E8 (CE)- Faulty water heating unit. Ring the temperature sensor, then the heating element
E7- the water level sensor is not working. Check and, if necessary, replace the water level sensor. They also check the tightness of the tube that goes from the sensor to the tank
E9 (LE)- Water leakage or drain connected incorrectly. Faulty water leakage sensor, check the correct connection of the drain hose(lack of self-draining)
