For starters, everything is cool: we can have a universe with a fourth - additional - spatial dimension.

So, that's cool, but what would it look like? We don't usually think about it, but the four fundamental forces - gravity, electromagnetism, and two nuclear forces - have these properties and forces because they exist in the dimensions our universe has. Similarly, residents of the third dimension (that is, you and me) can only see four-dimensional beings as their three-dimensional projections. That is, ordinary bodies having length, width and height.

The higher dimension has one major advantage over the lower dimension: higher dimensional beings can break the laws of lower dimensional physics. So, if in a two-dimensional universe, on a plane, a resident is put in a prison, then he will not be able to get out of it, surrounded on all two sides (since there are only two dimensions) by walls. But if you put a three-dimensional being (or rather, only its projection) in such a prison, then it easily leaves two dimensions, say, upwards - and finds itself outside the two-dimensional prison.

Now let's take a segment and try to move it, as before a point. (You can imagine that our segment is the base of a wide and very thin brush.) If we go beyond the line and move in a perpendicular direction, we get a rectangle. A rectangle has two dimensions - width and height. The rectangle lies in some plane. The plane is a two-dimensional space (2D), on it you can enter a two-dimensional coordinate system - each point will correspond to a pair of numbers. (For example, a Cartesian coordinate system on a blackboard, or latitude and longitude on a geographic map.)

If you move a rectangle in a direction perpendicular to the plane in which it lies, you get a "brick" (rectangular parallelepiped) - a three-dimensional object that has a length, width and height; it is located in three-dimensional space - in the one in which we live. Therefore, we have a good idea of ​​what three-dimensional objects look like. But if we lived in a two-dimensional space - on a plane - we would have to pretty much stretch our imagination to imagine how we can move the rectangle so that it goes out of the plane in which we live.

It is also quite difficult for us to imagine a four-dimensional space, although it is very easy to describe mathematically. Three-dimensional space is a space in which the position of a point is given by three numbers (for example, the position of an aircraft is given by longitude, latitude, and altitude). In four-dimensional space, a point corresponds to four numbers-coordinates. A "four-dimensional brick" is obtained by shifting an ordinary brick along some direction that does not lie in our three-dimensional space; it has four dimensions.

In fact, we encounter four-dimensional space every day: for example, when making a date, we indicate not only the meeting place (it can be set with a triple of numbers), but also the time (it can be set with a single number - for example, the number of seconds that have passed since a certain date). If you look at a real brick, it has not only length, width and height, but also a length in time - from the moment of creation to the moment of destruction.

The physicist will say that we live not just in space, but in space-time; the mathematician will add that it is four-dimensional. So the fourth dimension is closer than it seems.

However, four-dimensional space is not so simple. This means that in addition to the length, width and height of a point, its position in time is also indicated, i.e. where it is located: in the past, present or future.

But let's move away from physics. It turns out that, mathematically, a new axiomatic object is added in this space, called hyperplane. It can be conditionally represented as one whole "three-dimensional space". By analogy in three dimensions, the intersection of two hyperplanes gives us a plane. Various combinations of this thing with 4D shapes give us unexpected results. For example, in three-dimensional space, the intersection of a plane with a ball gives us a circle. By this analogy in four-dimensional space the intersection of a four-dimensional ball with a hyperplane gives us a three-dimensional ball. It becomes obvious that it is practically impossible to mentally imagine and draw a four-dimensional space: biologically, our senses are adapted only to a three-dimensional case and below. Therefore, the four-dimensional space can be clearly described only in mathematical language, mainly with the help of operations with the coordinates of points.

However, it can be described less accurately in some other language. Let's consider the concept of parallel worlds: in addition to our world, other worlds "exist" in which some events went differently. Let's designate our world through the letter A, and some other world - through the letter B. From the point of view of the four-dimensional space, we can say that the world A and the world B are different "three-dimensional spaces" that turn out to be non-intersecting. That's what it is parallel hyperplanes. And there are an infinite number of them. If it happens that if at a certain point in time in world A "grandfather died", and in world B "grandfather is still alive", then worlds A and B intersect along some four-dimensional figure in which all events went the same way up to a certain point in time , and then the figure seemed to "divide" into non-intersecting three-dimensional parts, each of which describes the state of the grandfather, whether he is alive or not. The handicapped children sang a long, mournful Japanese song for me to bad accompaniment. I was touched, but I saw that they hated me. For the fact that because of me they were thrashed for six months ...

Something had to be done. But what? Then I remembered that in every Japanese house there are collections of folk songs, and all children know them.

He asked to bring such a collection and sat down at the piano standing on the stage. And a miracle happened.

The children and I threw such a concert that the audience sat with their mouths open. On that day, my life changed dramatically ... He was rich, famous, in demand.

What else does a person need to be happy? To whom - what. And the great pianist also wanted to see others happy.

It was a Japanese school for disabled children. In Russia, unfortunately, I have not seen such schools.

The richest children's complex - with gyms, a swimming pool with gilded handles, a winter garden.

For 800 children - 800 teachers.

I was asked to speak in it, but I had no idea what awaited me here. Spectators were literally brought into the hall: some in wheelchairs, some on beds.

I went on stage, and what I saw brought tears to my eyes.

I had to pull myself together. My feeling: I played like I had never played in my life. And as soon as he left the stage, he burst into tears ...

A concert at a Japanese school for sick children made Teterin think about the fate of disabled children.

He became interested in how children live, doomed to spend their whole lives in a stroller or walking, tapping a stick in front of them.

I have been to different countries, including such prosperous ones as Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, England.

Wonderful conditions have been created there for children with disabilities.

They sleep in good beds, they eat well, they have good pensions. Such that one member of the family may not work all his life, but only deal with his sick child.

But the outcome of the life of a disabled child is sadly the same everywhere.

Even if they don’t leave him (in Russia they are most often abandoned: the father breaks down, and one mother is unable to endure all the trials), the child remains alone. And so I thought: there are 70-80 great musicians in the world.

Three of them are disabled. Statistically, there should be more, because there are 10-15% of disabled people in relation to healthy people.

Therefore, there should be not three great disabled musicians, but eight or ten. What happened to those seven, perhaps geniuses, that we don't know?

And something terrible happened - no one helped them. If a sick child is talented, it is a tragedy for him.

I know that a talented person cannot be unrealized, otherwise his talent will tear him apart. Then I thought that we need to find musically gifted guys and try to grow professional musicians out of them.

I no longer doubted that there were such talents among disabled children. Action followed the thought. Indeed, there were many children with an ear for music and a desire to make music.

Teterin, far from pedagogy, faced the difficult task of educating and teaching musical literacy, playing the piano, vocals of young students who suffer from incurable diseases from birth.

He probably made the only right decision: to rely on his own experience and intuition, and also to show them an example of how to work, with what dedication.

As a child, I myself studied music for eight to ten hours a day. I am used to working carefully at the piano, I will do any work just as carefully, and if I suddenly have to work as a janitor, my yard will be the cleanest in the city.

Of course, a ten-hour working day was beyond the power of many of my wards. But pity, compassion for them, which overwhelmed me, were not the best helpers.

I had to teach them the main thing - to work, to be professionals in their field, to set a goal and go towards it.

And therefore he must be strict with them, not allow indulgence.

Children feel her very much, and she offends them.

I don’t give them a fish, I make them fish for themselves. I also thought about what the future holds for my students.

I understood: if their talent is recognized, they will not be lost. Their music will reach listeners through CDs. Ten years have passed since that memorable concert at a Japanese school for disabled children.

During this time, Vladislav Teterin managed not only to make musicians out of several disabled children, but also to create the World of Art Foundation, which has branches throughout the country.

And his children work in all of them. And their fame is already worldwide.

During V. Putin's visit to the UK, we gave a big concert at Rothschild's castle.

The Pope touched every child. (There was such tension that Teterin lost consciousness for several hours! - ed.)

We traveled with concerts almost all of Russia. Were in Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok. And everywhere people knew that there would be no hack work. We had a ten-day tour in Russian cities.

They performed in Tula, Smolensk, Vologda, Chita, Krasny, Novosibirsk, finished their tour in St. Petersburg.

Eight concerts were given on Palace Square, which seats 70,000 people. And then we rented a boat. It was only the great artists of the Grand Opera and our children in wheelchairs.

And in every city that they sailed past, our posters. And on the ship they rehearsed, gave home concerts. The stage is one thing and the other is right here, almost at home. These were amazing concerts!

Children with music twisted the souls of all the passengers of the ship. Vladislav Teterin did the incredible - he helped seriously ill children, many of whom were abandoned by their parents, find themselves in a life that severely treated them from birth.

Here is one of my students. Oleg Akkuratov. He lived in a musical boarding school near Armavir. When I met him, he was not seven years old.

A blind and retarded boy, abandoned by his parents (now they have returned to him), Oleg began to study with the best teachers.

And now what? He won in Germany as a classical pianist. Last year he won a competition in Russia as a jazz pianist.

He gave concerts in St. Petersburg, Moscow. In London with the great musician D. Dorelli.

These talents must be found and developed. When I succeed, I feel like a happy person.

And even one soul opened up with my help is worth a lot! ... A child should be happy, but this blind boy in the hotel swayed for days on end, like a pendulum, and ... howled.

Young musician Oleg Akkuratov from Voronezh (actor Dmitry Kuzbasov) masterfully plays the piano. Oleg is blind, an orphan, but loves music with all his heart. One day, a visiting movie star Anna Semyonova (Lyudmila Gurchenko) notices him, and calls him to the capital, to the world, most likely, not very sincerely.

But Oleg did not forget the invitation - years later he comes to Moscow with his fellow musician named Suvora (Vladimir Ilyin). Suvora is Roman Suvorov, a jazz musician, a stern man who went through the war, and a bit of an eccentric. Anna, although she is still acting in films, has long lost her former popularity and has become a legend of the past. Her beautiful and rich mansion is empty, no one lives in it, except for herself. Her own son turned away from her many years ago, and even her granddaughter is not allowed to visit her grandmother. Anna is lonely and not too happy.

Having met Oleg, Anna is transformed - a thirst for activity wakes up in her, a desire to arrange the future of a young talent. Talent is demonstrated to the famous jazz musician Alexander Belykh (Alexander Shirvindt), who was once Anna's boyfriend. He is impressed and decides to help Oleg. Together they try to get Oleg into a good jazz school. Anna does her best to help the boy, showing real maternal care. Together with Alexander, they go abroad to study, and Suvora returns home.

The plot of the film is based on real events: once Lyudmila Gurchenko actually provided assistance to musician Oleg Akkuratov from Armavir. In addition, a brilliant jazz musician is also partly true: Gurchenko had a husband, a jazz pianist, whose musical career, however, did not work out.

Akkuratova Gurchenko spoke about her talent like this:

Jazz pianist Mikhail Okun, with whom we worked together, once said: “I want to introduce you to my student. He's just blind." And he gave me videos where a boy of four years worked miracles at the piano. He played jazz, classical - everything he heard on the radio. I was told that at the age of three he crawled to the piano and began to play Tchaikovsky's First Concerto by ear. On another recording, he is already seventeen, and he plays with a symphony orchestra in the hall of the conservatory. Next to him at the piano is the director of the Armavir Special Music School for Blind and Visually Impaired Children Alexandra Kirillovna Kutsenko. I thought: how will he perform without seeing the conductor?! But she gently touched his elbow and he began to play. His technique was amazing. So we met him - here, in my apartment. He sat down at the piano and played.
