DIY watch straps from different materials: master classes with step-by-step photos and video tutorials

Often, wristwatches are sold with straps made of leatherette or other low-quality synthetic material and fail very quickly. In this case, they can be replaced with ready-made purchased ones, but it is much more interesting to make an original accessory yourself. Consider how you can make watch straps with your own hands using various materials and techniques.

Leather strap

The leather strap is a classic that never goes out of style. It is suitable not only for traditional models of men's and women's watches, but also for children's and youth accessories, you just have to choose a bright color and unusual leather texture.

• scraps of durable skin;
• tools for working with leather (cutter or laser, awl, needles);
• linen thread in a contrasting color;
• new hardware if needed.

Operating procedure

Build a pattern of straps of the appropriate size on paper, you can use an old strap as a template. Using a laser or traditional tools, cut out the necessary blanks from the skin, make through holes for the seams with the same pitch along the perimeter of each. Before sewing, clean and degrease the surface of the parts.

For stitching, we use the so-called stitching technique, when one thread and two needles are used. In this case, the seam is neat and very durable. We sew all the details, sew a loop for fastening into one strap. The buckle and other accessories can be used from an old strap or a new one.

We remove the old strap from the watch and install a new one, securing it on each side with a few stitches. We fix all seams with a neat double knot on the wrong side. The length of the thread for the knot must be at least 3 mm, otherwise it may unravel.

Fabric strap

One of the easiest and most stylish options for women is a fabric strap. It is perfect for hot weather, because under it, unlike leather straps, your hands will not sweat. In this case, it is better to choose a large, massive, simple round or oval watch.

Necessary materials and equipment

• a small silk scarf of a rectangular or square shape or a bright fabric;
• needles and threads;
• pliers or tweezers.

Operating procedure

Remove the old watch strap using pliers or tweezers. We fold the scarf into a rectangle, as shown in the photo.

If a piece of fabric is used, it is necessary to process its edges around the perimeter with a sewing machine or manually. Gently thread the folded fabric with tweezers through the watch fasteners. If desired, you can make several options for fabric straps and change them in accordance with the color of clothing and other accessories.

Paracord strap

A durable and original strap in a sporty style can be woven from paracord - a nylon cord with a thin core. These products are highly durable and easy to maintain.

Necessary materials and equipment

• paracord 1.5 m long;
• scissors;
• lighter;
• tape measure or measuring tape;
• clamp or tweezers;
• plastic mount.

Operating procedure

We measure the wrist and calculate the length of the product. We fold the paracord in half, measure the end 50 cm long and use a double loop to fix the cord on one part of the plastic fastener. We pass the watch and install the second part of the mount at an equal distance. Once again we pass the cord through the clock so that four identical cables are obtained on each side.

With the long end of the cord, we begin to braid the cables. We start it under the two central cables, then we wrap it around the outermost cord and go back.

In this way we braid the workpiece along the entire length. Having reached the watch, we pass the cord through their fasteners and continue to braid the second part of the strap. We fix the working cable in a plastic clip, cut and melt its end. Paracord strap is ready!

Beaded strap

A very effective watch strap can be made from beads. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to use complex weaving patterns, it is enough just to choose large and small beads and beads that combine with each other.

Necessary materials and equipment

• glass beads of blue color, differing in shape and size;
• small round beads of gold color;
• fishing line and needle for beads;
• scissors;
• lighter;
• accessories.

Operating procedure

We cut the fishing line into segments of the same length and fix them on the clock from both sides. For wide straps, you can make several pieces of fishing line, for narrow straps, 2-3 pieces are enough on each side. We string beads and beads on a fishing line in a certain or arbitrary sequence.

We fasten the accessories on the straps, tie the fishing line and hide it, passing it several times through the beads and beads. We melt the knot in such a way that it holds firmly.
