Cat ears: a master class on making them in various ways

Quite often you can meet a girl with an ornament on her head in the form of cat ears. This adds to the image of cuteness. But often this accessory is used for theatrical and carnival costumes. Consider how to make cat ears, a master class on their manufacture using various techniques.

Material selection

Costumed performances are often in educational institutions from kindergarten to university. One of the roles can often be found a cat: Cheshire, a scientist, from the fairy tale "Cat's House". To make the character immediately recognizable, you need to make ears.

There is a wide variety of materials from which an accessory can be made: wire, thread, cardboard, fabric, felt or fur. The ears are attached to a regular hairband, which can be purchased at any store. For girls, bright and soft materials are suitable, for boys, for example, for the role of a scientist cat, you can make ears from dark felt, cardboard or wire.

Making ears from improvised materials

Let's take a closer look at how to make cat ears with your own hands. Let's start with the simplest option - cardboard ears. Suitable material is in every home. To give a suitable color, you can paint with watercolors or gouache. So, for the manufacture you will need cardboard, scissors, glue and a plastic rim, which can be replaced with a cardboard rim, if suddenly this was not at home, and there is no way to get to the store.

From the cardboard you need to cut two diamonds, then fold them in half, while wrapping around the rim. Lubricate with glue and connect the halves to form a triangle. It remains to let dry, and the accessory is ready.

Another option for quick manufacturing is wire ears. The wire is bent at an angle to give the shape of an eye, the ends are bent so that it can be fixed on the rim. If the accessory is made for a girl, then the wire can be decorated with beads, fixing them in the right place with super glue. After the decor is completed, the ears are glued to the rim, and the attachment point is covered with a piece of leather or leatherette.

Ears from materials for needlework

The accessory can be made from more durable materials, such as fabric, fur, fleece or felt. Also, needlewomen can use their skills and crochet ears.

To make felt ears, you will need:

  • Threads to match
  • Scissors
  • Sheet of paper and pencil
  • Colour-matched headband

If a suitable rim was not found, you can take a rim of any color and a satin ribbon to match the ears. And wrap the selected rim with tape.

First of all, you need to prepare a template. To do this, you need to fold a sheet of paper in half and draw an eye in such a way that its base is located on the fold. Then cut out the resulting blank and attach it to the felt. You can circle with a fabric pencil or fix paper with a needle to cut the same blanks from felt.

Attach the resulting templates one by one and bend around the rim, sew at the base as close to it as possible. Then, to the top of the eyelet, on one side, sew the parts with an overcast seam, fill the resulting pocket with cotton wool and sew the part to the end. It turns out as a result of such a charming volumetric bezel:

To knit an accessory you will need:

  • Suitable threads
  • bezel
  • Hook
  • Cardboard
  • Stitch marker

This description is for a fairly thick yarn, for which hook No. 4 is recommended.

Around the rim, you need to tie 12 single crochets, make a lifting loop and tie another row without increments behind the front wall, turn the work around and once again knit 12 single crochets behind the front wall. Thus, we get a circle of 24 columns. Insert the cardboard cut out in triangles and knit around it. This is done to give rigidity. Knit the third row without increments for both walls of the loop. Next, knit according to the following description, all work is done with single crochets:

4 row: 2 columns together, 8 columns, 2 together, 2 more times together, 8 columns, 2 together (it turned out 20)

5 row: 2 tbsp. together, 7 st., 2 st. together, verse 9 (eighteen)

6 row: 2 tbsp. together, 6 tbsp., 2 tbsp. together, 8 tbsp. (16)

7 row: 2 tbsp. together, 5 tbsp., 2 tbsp. together, 7 tbsp. (fourteen)

8 row: 2 tbsp. together, 4 tbsp., 2 tbsp. together, 6 tbsp. (12)

9 row: 2 tbsp. together, 3 tbsp., 2 tbsp. together, 5 tbsp. (ten)

10 row: 2 tbsp. together in a circle (5)

Sew up the hole with a needle.

Knitted ears are also decorated with children's hats.

The knitting pattern for such ears is quite simple:

And the last manufacturing option is made of faux fur.

To do this, you will need faux fur, a headband covered with fabric, a needle and thread, lining fabric, paper with a pencil, scissors and a thin padding polyester or foam rubber to fill the ears.

Draw a template on paper, the sides of which are 1 cm larger than the required dimensions (seam allowance). We cut out the blank and, using it, cut out two parts from the lining fabric and from the fur. We fold the details in pairs with fur and fabric (right side to each other) and sew on both sides. We turn the parts inside out, then put the filler in and sew up to the end. We sew the resulting ears to the rim and admire the result:
