Vacations in the 2017-2018 academic year

• Autumn holidays in the 2017-2018 academic year will begin on October 28, 2017 and end on November 5, 2017. The duration of the autumn holidays 2017 will be 9 days.
• Winter New Year holidays in the 2017-2018 academic year will begin on December 23, 2017 and will last until January 7, 2018. The duration of the winter holidays will be 16 days.
• Spring break in the 2017-2018 academic year will begin on March 24, 2018 and will last until April 1, 2018. The duration of spring break will be 9 days.
• Summer holidays in 2018 will begin on May 26, 2018 and will last until September 1, 2018.

Additional holidays for first-graders may be introduced from February 17 to February 25, 2018. In addition, students in Russian educational institutions will have days off on February 23, 2018, March 8, 2018, May 1, 2018, and May 9, 2018.

Additional holidays in the 2017-2018 academic year

Additional holidays or rescheduling of holidays in schools and other educational institutions are possible for the following reasons:

• Low air temperature– minus 25 degrees Celsius for primary school; minus 28 degrees – for high school; minus 30 degrees for students in grades 10 and 11.
• Low temperature in classrooms. When the air temperature in classrooms is below +18 degrees, it is prohibited to conduct classes.
• Quarantine and exceeding the morbidity threshold. Quarantine can be declared in a separate school, a separate district, city or region if the epidemic incidence threshold of 25% of the total number of students is exceeded.

Weekends in the 2017-2018 academic year

In addition to traditional Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, the following dates for public holidays are established in the 2017-2018 academic year:

• November 4, 2017- day off in honor of National Unity Day. Since the holiday falls on Saturday, schoolchildren Monday 6 November will be an additional day after the autumn holidays.

Vacations for students in the 2017-2018 academic year

There will be fewer vacations at institutes, universities and other higher educational institutions during the 2017-2018 academic year, since students rest only in winter and summer. Each university sets the exact vacation schedule for students depending on the session dates. Winter holidays for students begin at the end of January and end in mid-February. During the summer period, the dates of student holidays also depend on the session and practice, which is often scheduled for June, which means you can go on vacation only in July. Also, the practice may be postponed to August, and the holidays will begin in mid-June. Everything depends on the specific university, therefore, in order to carefully plan your vacation, you need to check the data with the university administration. The only thing that can be said for sure is that the holidays should not be less than 6 weeks.

The school year is not only the school process, in which children aged 6-7 to 17 years are inexorably involved. also affects students in higher education institutions. And therefore, all information regarding the formation of the academic year, vacation schedule, lesson plan, etc. worries everyone who is somehow connected with school and university.

The beginning of the school year can begin differently for carefree, cheerful schoolchildren and serious students. As a rule, in all schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums, a ceremonial assembly is held on the first of September, at which all classes gather - from the first to the eleventh - and the director gives a parting speech to the students.

A little later, children are given textbooks and various entertaining or educational activities are held. It turns out that schoolchildren begin the educational process only the next day.

But students of higher educational institutions begin to fulfill their educational duties from the first of September. But both students and schoolchildren are united by one burning question that begins to disturb the minds of the children since September: “How many weeks are there in the 2016-2017 school year?”.

The process of forming school weeks in secondary school

To date, there is no consensus on how to correctly calculate and count the number of school weeks. If we turn to the legislative side of the issue, then each individual educational institution has the right to choose and vary the amount of both educational and vacation time independently.

In addition, it is worth considering the fact that each level of education has its own criteria and features for calculating these weeks. For example, for junior classes, their own duration of study time is established, which, naturally, differs from the duration of study, vacation time of the middle or senior level.

Absolutely every school has an approved Charter, on the basis of which the calculation of calendar classes for the entire academic year is formed. This regulatory document describes in detail the terms of the educational process, as well as the duration of the holidays. To find out all the necessary information, you just need to carefully read the Charter of the educational institution.

Depending on what grade a student is in, a child may have between 33 and 35 school weeks. First-graders and elementary school students legally study for the required 33 weeks, since they go on summer vacation on May 25. In addition, first-graders have an extra week of rest during winter break. Middle and high school students typically study for 35 weeks.

Exceptional students in middle and high school can study for less time by excelling in all subjects and completing tests and exams.

Those students who approach their studies irresponsibly, on the contrary, may even stay in school beyond the 35 allotted school weeks. This can happen if students fail to complete exams, tests, or tests on time.

For all high school and middle school students, school for the 2016-2017 school year will end on Wednesday, May 31st. After this, exams and necessary tests begin. Graduates, after a successful event, will have a graduation party.

Possible changes in the schedule of the educational process in the 2016-2017 academic year

In many ways, the number of weeks in the 2016-2017 school year is acutely dependent on what the situation will be like in the winter. As you know, during the cold and damp season, viral infections become more active in the atmosphere, and the level of colds also increases.

As in secondary educational institutions, higher schools in the country have their own procedure for shaping the educational process. Thus, the management of the university independently designates the beginning and end of vacation time.

In addition to the allotted right to determine the duration of vacations, higher educational institutions have their own academic calendar of even and odd weeks for the 2016-2017 academic year. This extremely convenient program is based on such fundamentals that specific theoretical classes are conducted only on odd weeks, and practice - on even periods.

The current law allows higher education institutions to draw up their own plans for the annual academic schedule, but absolutely all educational institutions are required to adhere to the general norms of school and weekend time.

University students have a fairly long academic year, compared even to high school students. In higher education institutions in the 2016-2017 academic year, the number of weeks allocated for study can reach 45. In addition, the lion's share of vacations (students go on vacation in winter and summer) can be “eaten up” by the winter or summer session.

The educational process is complex and multifaceted, there are no trifles in it. Special documents regulate many aspects of school life: the beginning and end of school time, the duration of vacations, exam dates, and even such aspects as how many school weeks there are in the 2017-2018 academic year.

The number of weeks of school in the school year varies depending on the level of study. That is, for each of the basic levels - primary, middle or high school - its own duration of the school year is established.

• 1st grade – 33 weeks;
• 2-4 grades – 34 weeks;
• 5-8 grades – 34 weeks;
• Grades 9-11 - 34 weeks plus time for the State Examination Examination (that is, exams for grades 9 and 11).

What causes the difference in the length of the school year in weeks? Why do students in lower grades study less than in older grades? It's all about the workload. The more subjects in the schedule, the more material you need to study, the higher the load and the longer you have to study.

Not only the number of school weeks depends on the workload, but also the total duration of each reporting period - five or six school days. As a rule, the school’s annual plan-schedule indicates the following deadlines:

• junior grades, that is, from 1 to 4 inclusive - a 5-day school week;
• middle classes, that is, from 5 to 8 inclusive - 6-day week;
• 9th grade of secondary school – 6-day school week;
• senior classes, that is, grades 10 and 11 – 6-day week.

Training: formalizing the process

The educational process is regulated by several diverse documents. The most important of them:

• syllabus;
• annual schedule.

These documents, approved by the relevant government department, are the main ones. The curriculum describes what subjects will be studied in each class, what textbooks and teaching aids are recommended for training. The annual schedule, which is drawn up by the city or regional Education Committee, includes the total number of school and vacation days for each of the basic levels of education (that is, how many days will junior, middle and senior classes study and rest).

The following documents are also important for formalizing the educational process:

• vacation schedule;
• call schedule.

These two documents are the prerogative of the school itself; they are drawn up by the administration, but each schedule must certainly meet the recommendations of regional and federal relevant government agencies.

Based on the above documents, each educational institution draws up its own academic calendar for the year. And the first point in it, as a rule, indicates the length of the school year, expressed in school weeks.

Hooray, holidays!

Speaking about the length of the school year and the number of school weeks, one cannot fail to mention the rest time. Vacations are as integral a part of the school year as lessons.

• Autumn holidays – from October 30 to November 7; lessons will start on November 8, which will be Tuesday;
• Winter holidays - from December 25 to January 10; some schools send students on vacation only on December 28; the first lessons of 2018 will be held only on Wednesday, January 10 due to the postponement of the Christmas holiday;
• Spring holidays – from March 24 to April 1; to school only on April 2, Monday.

First-graders will have a few more days of long-awaited rest - the second, complementary to the main ones, will be in February, from the 5th to the 11th.

GIA: school exams

The school annual schedule certainly includes time for testing knowledge - exams. All exams in schools can be divided into two different groups - general school certifications, that is, those conducted to test the acquisition of knowledge, and state final certifications. The latter are carried out beyond the duration of the academic year; as a rule, they are held after graduation, in May-June - according to the schedule drawn up by the relevant department.

School certifications in primary and secondary grades are carried out regularly at the end of each period - quarter, if the educational process is divided into quarters and not trimesters. Senior classes demonstrate their knowledge once every six months.

As a rule, quarter tests (dictations, tests) are carried out for the first and second levels of study. The third level of education, more precisely 9th and 11th grades, write school tests based on the results of the six months plus take the State Examination Test.

Each year, unless it is a leap year, has three hundred sixty-five (365) days. In a leap year there are one more of them, that is, three hundred sixty-six. Next year, 2017, will not be a leap year, so it will have three hundred and sixty-five days.

And in 2017 there will be as many as 52 weeks plus one more day. This is calculated quite simply: since there are seven days in a week, 365 divided by seven equals 52 and one day.

How many months and weeks are there in a year?

According to the calendar, there are always only twelve months in a year, no matter what year it is. So next year 2017 will be twelve months.

Each month has 4 weeks, but January does not always start from the beginning. So next year, 2017, the year will begin on Sunday, and the week will consist of only one day. And so the second one will start on Monday, as expected. And the year will also end on Sunday.

This February will have twenty-eight days and is not a leap year. It turns out that there are 12 months of four in each, but since there are not 28 days in a month, except for February, but 30-31, then the total is not forty-eight (12*4=48), but more. In this case it will be 52.

How many weeks are there in 2017 excluding summer?

Summer is not included in the educational process, except for the first days, when exams, tests and tests are usually taken. Also at the beginning of summer, pupils and students attend detentions and relax in school camps.

If we calculate how many school weeks there will be in a year, then we do the following mathematical operations:

• in June there are a full 5, it starts on Thursday and therefore covers three May days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday);
• in July it is also 5, if you subtract the two days that remain in the June week (Saturday and Sunday);
• in August there are 4 left, if you do not take into account the first 5 days that remain in the July week (from Tuesday to Sunday);
• we add up the result and get 5+5+4=14.

We have already found out that 2017 will consist of 52 weeks and one day. Of these, of course, not all days will be school days; as in other years, some generally accepted public holidays will be celebrated in 2017. These are such as:

Academic year and working days

Summer holidays will not be included in the academic year, so we will count only holidays included in the period from September 1 to the beginning of summer, June 1.

The first and second weeks of January will be completely festive in 2017. School will begin from the third, on Monday, January 9.

Further, all weeks will be academic weeks, excluding summer ones. It turns out that 38 school minus 2, we get 36. However, it is worth taking into account the autumn and spring holidays, which in each school occur at different periods with a difference of 5-10 days.

In total, if you subtract from the number 36 the autumn week of vacation and the spring week, you get 34. However, an accurate calculation here is almost impossible, because each country has its own laws and rules, each school has its own.

The same applies to working days. However, if you take work into account, there are no holidays here. Therefore, the average working weeks in 2017 will be 36.

If we take into account the daily official leave, which at each enterprise is given in the amount of one month, then each citizen at work must work 32 working weeks per year.

In each year, the number of weeks is usually about 52, give or take a few days. A leap year has 366 days, which means it doesn’t really affect the number of weeks. Only one day is added to the year. 2017 will not be a leap year for the rooster and therefore promises to be calm and bright.

Schools are asked to choose a teaching system, as well as the total number of school weeks in which they will provide knowledge to students. Most schools prefer to remain faithful to the traditional educational scheme, that is, when the year is systematically distributed into 4 quarters, each of which is divided by a vacation. Between quarters, vacations usually last 7-10 days, but the duration of summer vacation is determined to be 3 months.
