What can be seen with a microscope?
Have you bought or received a microscope as a gift and don't know what to do with it? It's not a problem! In this article, I will try to inspire you to have fun working with a microscope. After all, you have the opportunity to look into the unknown! And as it is sung in a children's song, - "Everything that is unknown is terribly interesting!"
I won't tell what can be seen with a microscope professional (forensic, metallographic, luminescent, etc.). These optical instruments are for professionals. I think they probably do not have a question: what to look at?
And I'll tell you about the usual biological microscope, which is increasingly chosen by our compatriots as a gift to friends, children and myself - my beloved.
So, a microscope appeared in your house! Congratulations! Perhaps you are in some confusion: Where to start? What to look for so that the microscope makes an amazing impression on you and your loved ones?
Where to start? Everything is simple here: using the instruction manual that is included with any microscope, you need to learn how to work with magnifications, with focus adjustment and illumination - I'm sure this will not be difficult. But about what can be seen through a microscope - I will try to help!
To begin with, it would not be superfluous to say that all objects that can be viewed under a microscope are divided into transparent and opaque. This determines the research method: in transmitted light or in reflected light. Simply put, it will depend on which backlight you should use when working: top or bottom.
If there is a transparent object on the microscope stage, then it is necessary to use the lower illumination (it can be an LED illumination or a mirror), while the light will pass through the sample under study.
If you are going to study an opaque object, you will need a top light that will illuminate the surface under study. I note that if there is no upper illumination in your microscope, an ordinary LED flashlight aimed at the sample you are working with can help!
Now, perhaps, we can return to the very topic of our article! Here, you have a choice: to use ready-made micropreparations that are on sale (perhaps they are already included in the package of your microscope), or to make micropreparations yourself. For me, both are very interesting.
Ready micropreparations are professionally made, using special dyes, they can be stored for years, in addition, the range is large: from infusoria - shoes and onion peel to brain cells and motor nerves. Agree, you yourself will not make such drugs!
Of course, no one can resist making their own slides. On the Internet, and in many manuals for microscopes, there is information on how to do this. In general, you can simply place anything (of course, suitable in size) on the microscope stage, on top of the glass slide - and look.
And then, place what you especially like between the properly fastened slides and coverslips - that's your own micropreparation!
Now I will try to take a few photos of what everyone can find at hand:
- plantain leaf
- fly eye
- Skin on the finger
- plantain leaf
- Coin
- Pile of soft toys
- Seed
- garlic husk
- Hair
Well, how? Impressive? I'm sure yes!
I hope the article turned out to be interesting and useful! I think my practical advice and examples of what can be seen through a microscope will inspire you to research, and the microscope will become your true friend!
